Vivo India Executives Granted Bail in Money Laundering Case

Three executives of Chinese smartphone maker Vivo India, arrested on suspicion of money laundering, have been granted bail by a Delhi court. The court ruled their detention illegal due to a procedural error but imposed conditions on their release.

The executives, including interim CEO Hong Xuquan, CFO Harinder Dahiya, and consultant Hemant Munjal, were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on December 21st. However, the trio had claimed that they were arrested on December 21 and not on December 22, as recorded by the ED.

This technicality led the court to find their custody unlawful as they should be produced before a judge within 24 hours of their arrest. Thus the court ordered bail for the executives on a bond of Rs 2 lakh each.

However, the ED expressed concern that the executives might tamper with evidence or influence witnesses and requested they report to the agency daily until January 3rd. The court agreed to this condition, noting that the ED intends to challenge the bail order after the Delhi High Court resumes session in the new year.

This case stems from a larger investigation into alleged money laundering by Vivo India. The ED claims the company illegally transferred a staggering Rs 62,476 crore to China to evade taxes, harming India’s economic sovereignty. The agency raided Vivo India and its associates in July 2023, leading to the arrest of four individuals, including the three executives who were recently granted bail.

The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings are ongoing, with the ED hoping to appeal the bail decision and Vivo India likely defending itself against the money laundering accusations. This case remains under close watch, as it has significant implications for both the tech sector and financial regulations in India.

Samsung Galaxy S24 leak reveals AI features and familiar-looking “Generative Edit” tool

As we inch closer to Samsung’s Galaxy S24 launch event, juicy tidbits about the new phones keep trickling out. The latest leak comes from Twitter user @MysteryLupin, who shared what appears to be marketing material showcasing key AI features of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

One of the AI features coming to the Galaxy S24 series is Live Translate. Its description suggests it translates phone calls in real-time, potentially breaking down language barriers during conversations.

Samsung Galaxy S24 AI

Another interesting tidbit is “Generative Edit,” which sounds suspiciously similar to Google’s Magic Editor tool. This feature will let you remove unwanted objects or fill in empty spaces in your photos, just like Google’s offering.

However, just like Magic Editor, it requires an internet connection and a Samsung account. While Samsung is using the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which has on-device AI capabilities, it still relies on the cloud for this feature.

There’s also mention of three more features related to the smartphones. One is Nightography Zoom which is said to enhance low-light photos when zoomed in.

High Resolution will allow you to take pictures in the highest resolution supported by the phone’s primary camera. That will be 50MP for Galaxy S24, and 200MP on the S24 and S24 Ultra. Then there’s the Screen Display feature which highlights a “brighter, flatter screen” for better viewing and interaction. However, there’s no mention these features will use AI trickery of some sort for enhanced user experience.

@MysteryLupin also leaked high-resolution images of the S24 series, but they were quickly deleted, possibly due to Samsung’s crackdown on leaks. However, we have already seen high-quality renders of the device, so it’s not a miss-out.

Previous leaks and a recent, briefly visible confirmation on Samsung’s website point to a January 17 launch event for the Galaxy S24 series.

Kospetfit iHeal Ring launched with claimed blood pressure monitoring

Kospetfit has recently introduced the iHeal Ring, an addition to their lineup alongside the iHeal 5 and iHeal 5R smartwatches. This compact wearable offers various features that warrant a closer look.

According to Kospetfit’s announcement, the iHeal Ring claims to measure blood pressure and provide additional features. However, it’s advisable to approach such claims with skepticism, as budget wearables may not always match the precision of medical-grade devices.

Its waterproof design, weighing 5 grams and measuring 3.3 mm in thickness (IPX8), makes it suitable for water-based activities.

It comes in Silver, Black, or Ceramic White, with sizes ranging from 49 to 68 mm, ensuring a fit for everyone’s preferred style and comfort. The iHeal Ring is directly available from Kospetfit for $199.99, but there is currently a discount, making it obtainable for $99.99 only.

This Exciting Fortnite Leak may Change How Players Travel Across the Map

Fortnite has become a classic battle royale at this point, there is no doubt. The game, known for its dynamic skins and regular updates is reportedly introducing a rope-swinging mechanic that will offer players a novel way to navigate the game’s expansive map. This addition is a clear indication of Fortnite trying to keeping the gameplay experience vibrant and engaging.

Developers will strategically place swinging points all over the map

For years, Fortnite has been at the forefront of integrating unique movement features, such as sprinting, sliding, and mantling, to maintain its edge in the competitive gaming landscape. These features have been instrumental in keeping the game on par with rivals like Apex Legends and Call of Duty, renowned for their high-octane movement mechanics. The proposed rope-swinging feature is set to be the latest in this series of updates, potentially transforming how players interact with the game’s environment.

fortnite

According to recent leaks, players will soon be able to swing across the map using ropes and chandeliers strategically placed by the developers. This controlled distribution of swinging points suggests a thoughtful approach to integrating the new feature, ensuring it complements rather than overshadows the core gameplay. Additionally, the introduction of rope rappelling will add another dimension to the game, allowing players to ascend or descend ropes, thereby creating diverse strategic possibilities.

While fans may recall the excitement around Fortnite’s Spider-Man Web Shooters, the new rope mechanics are expected to offer a more nuanced enhancement to the game. These changes could lead to fascinating new tactics, especially if players are allowed to shoot or build while in motion.

2023 was a landmark year for Fortnite, and the momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing down. With anticipated updates like the new rope mechanics and potential expansions in modes like LEGO Fortnite and Rocket Racing, the game continues to push the boundaries of interactive entertainment. As we look ahead to 2024, one thing seems certain: Fortnite’s journey of innovation and excitement is far from over.

Gachaco’s Game-Changing Battery-Sharing Service for Electric Scooters in Japan

Japan’s Gachaco is leading a significant shift in the electric scooter industry with its innovative battery sharing service. Established by giants Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Eneos, this service aims to redefine personal electric transportation in Japan.

The date is set for January 9, 2024 for the service to go live in Tokyo

Gachaco has recently announced a major move: starting January 9, 2024, they’ll provide battery sharing services to individual customers in Tokyo. This development is a game-changer, especially since, until now, Gachaco primarily catered to business clients with their battery swapping system.

Electric Scooters

Currently, Gachaco’s swappable batteries are used in select Honda electric two- and three-wheelers. However, the scope of this initiative goes beyond a single brand. The collaborative effort between Japan’s top motorcycle manufacturers and Eneos ensures that these batteries could soon power a variety of models, potentially revolutionizing the market.

A standout feature of Gachaco’s service is the impact on the cost of electric scooters. For instance, the Honda EM1 e: scooter’s price dramatically drops when its battery is leased rather than purchased. This approach, coupled with flexible subscription plans, makes electric scooters more accessible and affordable.

One of the biggest hurdles in adopting electric vehicles is battery management. Gachaco’s service addresses these challenges head-on. By standardizing swappable batteries, they’re easing concerns related to battery life, charging time, and maintenance. This is particularly beneficial for city dwellers who may lack charging infrastructure.

While Gachaco has not yet announced plans for international expansion, the global presence of the EM1 e: suggests potential growth beyond Japan. Similar services in Taiwan by Gogoro and Kymco Ionex indicate a growing trend in battery swapping solutions, hinting at Gachaco’s possible expansion in the future.

Powering the device is a MediaTek Helio G99 Ultimate chipset, which we assume is an overclocked version of Helio G99. It’s paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

On the back, the phone houses a triple camera setup led by a 108MP main sensor, although details for other sensors haven’t been revealed yet. There’s a dual LED flash accompanying the camera.

Durability comes courtesy of the IP53 rating for dust and water resistance, while a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging keeps the lights on. Notably, the Pro+ runs the latest Android 14 out of the box.

The Spark 20 Pro+ will be available in four unique colorways: Temporal Orbits, Lunar Frost, Radiant Starstream, and Magic Skin 2.0 Green (with a faux leather back). While pricing remains unconfirmed, it’s expected to be competitive within its category.

Motorola Moto G Play (2024) Leaked Renders Reveal A Familiar Design

Earlier this month a slew of Motorola phones surfaced in leaked renders. Now, another Moto G-series device has emerged in leaked renders revealing its design from all angles. The phone in question is the Motorola Moto G Play (2024). It is expected to arrive as the successor to the last year’s Moto G Play (2023).

Motorola Moto G Play (2024) leaked renders

The Motorola Moto G Play (2024) has the same familiar look as the previously leaked Moto G-series phones. It has a flat frame with the power and volume rocker buttons located on the right side. The former also seems to double up as a fingerprint scanner. The back panel has an elevating rectangular island that looks similar to the OPPO Find X6 and Reno 8-series phones. The module houses a single 50MP primary sensor paired with an LED flash unit.  Meanwhile, the smartphone’s predecessor featured a 16MP + 2MP + 2MP camera setup.

On the front, the Motorola Moto G Play (2024) has a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout display. The screen is surrounded by sizeable bezels and a thicker bottom chin which is commonly found on budget phones. The report states that the smartphone will feature a 6.5-inch LCD display bearing an FHD+ resolution instead of HD+.

The Motorola Moto G Play (2024) is seen in a Sapphire Blue color option. The bottom of the device will house a USB-C port and a speaker grille whereas the 3.5mm jack will be located at the top.

The Motorola Moto G Play (2024) appears to be a budget smartphone. It is tipped to be priced at $169 and is expected to go official next month.
