China Unveils Blockchain ID System, Balancing Privacy and Security

China has embarked on a groundbreaking journey in the digital world, introducing a blockchain-based real-name verification system, an innovative move aimed at enhancing online security and user privacy. This system, named the Real-Name Decentralised Identifier (RealDID), is a collaborative effort between the state-backed Blockchain-based Service Network (BSN) and the Ministry of Public Security’s First Research Institute.

The rollout will be slow, the initial goal being 5 million IDs for year number one

RealDID’s objective is ambitious: to encompass all 1.4 billion citizens in China. However, the rollout will be gradual, with an initial goal of 5 million IDs in the first year. This venture represents a significant shift in how personal data is managed and protected online.

China

What sets RealDID apart is its use of blockchain technology. This tech provides a secure and transparent method for managing public keys, crucial for maintaining user privacy. The system operates exclusively within China, a testament to the country’s dedication to self-reliance in technological advancements.

This initiative is not just about improving online security; it’s a statement about China’s position in the digital age. The development of RealDID comes amid increased scrutiny and separation from international blockchain ventures, highlighting China’s commitment to charting its own course in the digital realm.

The system works by enabling users to create multiple public-private key pairs, tied to their real identities but allowing for anonymous online interactions. This means users can engage online without revealing personal details like phone numbers, a significant step forward in protecting individual privacy. Yet, the government retains access to user identities, a necessary measure for legal and security purposes. This balance between privacy and security is a delicate yet crucial aspect of the RealDID system.

Activision Blizzard CEO Announces Resignation Amid Xbox Acquisition

Bobby Kotick, the longstanding CEO of gaming giant Activision Blizzard, is set to leave his role on December 29. This move follows the massive acquisition of the company by Xbox for a whopping $69 billion, finalized in October. Kotick’s departure, initially hinted at in an internal memo, has now been officially confirmed, marking a significant change in the gaming industry’s landscape.

Bobby Kotick has overseen the growth of some big titles at Activision

Kotick’s tenure at Activision Blizzard has been nothing short of eventful. Under his leadership, the company has seen the growth of iconic gaming franchises like “Call of Duty,” “World of Warcraft,” and “Candy Crush Saga.” These titles have not only been commercially successful but have also significantly influenced the gaming culture worldwide. His impact on the industry is undeniable, with millions of gamers engaging with these titles over the years.

Activision Blizzard

Interestingly, Kotick’s exit doesn’t come with an immediate successor. This unusual move suggests a strategic shift within the company, especially in the wake of its integration into the Xbox family. Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has been vocal in his admiration for Kotick’s work and the legacy he leaves at Activision Blizzard. Spencer’s recent internal memo underscores this sentiment, focusing on Kotick’s contributions to the gaming world and the successful acquisition process.

The absence of a direct replacement for Kotick may indicate a new direction for Activision Blizzard under Xbox’s stewardship. With the gaming industry becoming more competitive and diverse, the integration of Activision Blizzard into Xbox could herald a new era of innovation and collaboration in game development and publishing.

Rolls-Royce Spectre Surpasses Expectations with a 291-Mile Range

The 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre, an all-electric luxury car, has surpassed expectations with its EPA range. It can travel up to 291 miles on a single charge with its 22-inch wheels, exceeding the initial estimate of 260+ miles. This figure, however, is still less than the 323-mile range estimated under Europe’s WLTP standards, which tend to be higher than the EPA’s.

The vehicle has four variations with slightly different specifications

This impressive vehicle comes in four variations, each with a different range based on wheel size and design. The 23-inch wheel version has a 266-mile range, while the Black Badge edition offers 280 miles with 22-inch wheels and 264 miles with 23-inch wheels. Although these numbers are respectable, they don’t quite match up to the longest-range luxury models like the Lucid Air or Mercedes-Benz EQS.

Rolls Royce

Under the hood, the Spectre is powered by a 102-kilowatt-hour battery, hinting at a shared battery pack with the BMW i7. This connection isn’t surprising, considering Rolls-Royce is part of the BMW Group. The battery supports fast charging, reaching 80% in just 34 minutes. The BMW i7 xDrive60, for comparison, has a range of 298-317 miles, depending on the wheel size.

The Rolls-Royce Spectre boasts a dual-motor, all-wheel drive powertrain, delivering 430 kilowatts and up to 900 Nm of torque. This power enables it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, a remarkable feat given its weight of 6,559 lbs.

In terms of energy consumption, the Spectre with 22-inch wheels is estimated at 81 MPGe, or about 416 watt-hours per mile. The 23-inch wheel version consumes 9.3% more energy. This increased consumption is expected due to its larger wheels and heavier build. The Black Badge edition consumes slightly more energy, reducing its range, but offering a distinct style that may appeal to certain buyers.

The Day Before, which recently came out, is making a significant impact on the gaming industry. Unfortunately, if you think I’m saying this in a positive sense, you are mistaken. The game was a total disaster and pretty much everyone hated it. The game was a huge letdown even for developer, and a few days after it came out, the company went bankrupt and removed the game from market.

Of course, after all this you might think that no one would want to play the game. However, you would be completely wrong because some people are willing to pay up to $400 for a Steam key for the game. Here are the details…

Gamers Pursue $400 Steam Key for The Day Before

As you know, Steam keys are unique codes that you can use when purchasing games from the platform. This method, often used by gamers to buy games at a lower price, and can can sometimes lead to interesting developments, just like in the case of The Day Before, for example. According to the recent reports, Steam keys for The Day Before, are being sold on the black market for $200 to $400.

What makes this interesting TDB is an online game and no one knows how long the servers will remain open. For this reason, a Steam key bought for $400 could become entirely worthless a week later. So, why do people spend so much money this terrible game? The answer to this question lies entirely in psychology.

The Day Before gained fame as a disappointment right after its release, leading to the game being removed from sale and increasing curiosity among people. With the number of Steam keys in the market being fewer than the interested audience, demand only soared. This caused the supply/demand balance to deteriorate and the price to increase.

Entire Apple iPhone 16 series to feature the A18 SoC, hints leaked iOS 18 codes

A new report has revealed an interesting detail regarding the 2025 iPhone lineup. Apple is apparently planning on launching the iPhone 16 series with the A18 chipset. The news arrives from leaked iOS 18 codes, so here are all the details.

iPhone 16 lineup to arrive with the A18 SoC

Notably, this report is in line with one of our earlier reports from back in October and was based on a leak from known analyst Jeff Pu. Now, the latest information arrives from leaked iOS 18 codes that were first spotted by Mac Rumors. The report cited sources that spotted details on the iOS 18 source code that details four unreleased iPhones. These are listed as D47, D48, D93, and D94, which likely refer to the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max, respectively.

It seems that the Cupertino based giant will be using the same chip for the entire lineup. This is in contrast to its recent launches where the base and Plus models feature improved last gen processors while the Pro series come with the latest generation SoC. While the iOS source code leaks did not officially reveal the name of the said processor, it is listed as the t8140 system for all four iPhone 16 models.

Similarly, we recently covered render leaks for the iPhone 16 as well as a separate report that claims that all iPhone 16 will be equipped with upgraded mic with integrated AI features. All four iPhone 16 models may also come with an Action Button, while the Pro models is rumored to offer a Tetraprism 5x zoom camera. The next gen iPhones are expected to house graphene cooling for improved thermals as well. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stick around for more updates.

Apple Vision Pro launch could be set for February 2024

The Apple Vision Pro was first announced earlier this year, but there has been no official word regarding its availability. Now, a new report has hinted at the launch timeline for the company’s mixed reality headset.

Apple Vision Pro may launch in Feb 2024

During the official announcement at WWDC23, the Cupertino based giant only revealed the pricing for the headset and not its availability. But known analyst Mark Gurman has revealed the launch timeframe for the wearable in his latest Power On newsletter. Previously, Gurman had claimed that the mixed reality headset’s roll out was delayed to March 2024. But in the latest report, he stated that the release could be arriving a month sooner.

The known analyst states that the Vision Pro could be arriving in February as the company has begun raising overseas production. Reportedly, Apple has production of the headset running at full capacity from its facilities in China. These manufacturing sites are working to achieve the goal of making the Vision Pro ready for shipping by the end of January 2024. On the software front, Gurman adds that the company has sent an email not to developers that have urged them to “get ready” for the Vision Pro by testing their apps with the latest tools.

Apart from this, Apple also seems to be sending two employees to each of its retail stores to its headquarters next month for training. Here, the employees will learn the functions and highlights of the Apple Vision Pro to be better capable of marketing the product for sales. Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed report, so take this news with a pinch of salt and stick around for more updates.
