The New Talaria Dragon Aims to Redefine Electric Off-Road Motorcycling

The world of electric motorcycles is evolving rapidly, and the latest buzz is about the Talaria Dragon, an electric enduro bike unveiled at EICMA 2023. This bike isn’t just another addition to the electric lineup; it’s a game-changer in off-road biking, promising a blend of high performance and eco-friendly technology.

The bike’s motor can churn out 28 kilowatts of power at peak settings

The Dragon stands out with its full-sized dimensions and a wheel combination of 21 inches in front and 18 inches at the back. This design not only gives it a robust look but also ensures it can handle rough terrains with ease. The heart of the Dragon is its mid-drive electric motor, which delivers a nominal power of 10 kilowatts (about 13.4 horsepower). However, the real thrill comes from its peak power of 28 kilowatts (38 horsepower), combined with the instant throttle response typical of electric motors. This makes the Dragon a formidable ride, not recommended for beginners.

Electric Bike

Its top speed is electronically limited to 110 kilometers per hour (69 miles per hour), striking a balance between excitement and safety. The bike’s battery is equally impressive, boasting an 88.8-volt, 58.5-amp-hour pack. This provides a range of approximately 150 kilometers (94 miles) on a single charge, assuming an average speed of 25 kilometers per hour (15.6 miles per hour). The charging time is reasonably quick, taking only four hours.

The Dragon also features three ride modes: Eco, Sport, and Hyper, catering to different riding preferences and conditions. The long-travel suspension system, with a fully adjustable Air+Spring fork and a linkage-type rear shock, ensures a smooth ride on uneven surfaces. Standard enduro/dual-sport tires, along with front and rear hydraulic disc brakes, enhance its off-road capabilities.

Currently, there’s no word on the price or availability of the Talaria Dragon, but it’s expected to hit the market in 2024. This bike is not just about speed and power; it’s a testament to the advancements in electric vehicle technology, especially in the realm of off-road biking. The Talaria Dragon is set to offer riders an exhilarating experience while being kinder to the environment, making it a significant step forward in the world of electric motorcycles.

Fuell’s New Folding E-bike has an Impressive Range of 110 Km per Charge

Fuell, the company founded by motorcycle industry veteran Erik Buell, is expanding its electric mobility lineup with the Folld, a new electric folding bike designed for urban dwellers. The Folld is a compact and convenient solution for city commuters, offering an innovative blend of technology, performance, and utility.

The bike can reach a speed of up to 25 kilometers per hour

At its core, the Folld stands out for its powerful rear hub motor sourced from Bafang, a renowned Chinese specialist. This motor delivers a nominal output of 250 watts and 85 Nm of torque, allowing the bike to reach speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour. Above this speed, you’ll need to pedal, but this ensures the bike adheres to European e-bike regulations.

Fuell Electric

The integration of a 720-watt-hour battery into the bike’s frame is a design highlight. It’s seamlessly incorporated, avoiding any bulky appearance. This battery provides an impressive range of 110 kilometers on a single charge, with the caveat of being on the lowest assist setting. The bike also offers five assist settings, though it lacks a throttle, again in compliance with European regulations.

Fuell has equipped the Folld with quality components like a Shimano Altus drivetrain and Tektro HD-E 350 hydraulic disc brakes. The 20-inch fat tires are an excellent choice for tackling less-than-ideal urban roads, ensuring a smoother ride.

One of the Folld’s practical features is its foldable rear rack, which can hold up to 10 kilograms. This functionality enhances the bike’s utility, making it a great option for carrying groceries or other essentials around the city. However, the robust and durable build of the Folld does increase its weight to 37.5 kilograms, which might be a consideration for those who frequently need to carry their bike.

Priced at 2,495 euros (around $2,731 USD), the Folld is positioned as an affordable option in the e-bike market. Fuell is currently offering an introductory discount, lowering the price further. While it’s not yet confirmed if the Folld will be available in the U.S. market, its attractive price point and practical features make it an appealing option for urban commuters looking for an eco-friendly and efficient way to navigate the city.

Alibaba’s Taobao Adopting AI and New Tech Strategies to Regain Market Control in China

Alibaba Group Holding’s recent leadership shake-up is a strategic move to reinforce its position as a top player in China’s e-commerce landscape. With the appointment of Eddie Wu Yongming as the head of Taobao and Tmall Group (TTG), Alibaba is not just changing faces; it’s signaling a deeper commitment to integrating advanced technology into its business model.

Rivals such as Pinduoduo have taken over a significant consumer market

Eddie Wu, who also leads Alibaba’s cloud unit, brings a tech-savvy approach to the company’s e-commerce operations. This change arrives at a critical moment when Alibaba faces intense competition from PDD Holdings, known for its budget-friendly platform Pinduoduo. Alibaba, once a pioneer in the online marketplace, has seen a dilution in its e-commerce focus as it expanded into various sectors. This diversification, while broadening its business scope, has opened doors for rivals like Pinduoduo to capture a significant market share by offering deep discounts and value deals.

Alibaba Taobao

Alibaba’s response to this challenge is a clear signal of its intent to revitalize its e-commerce strategy. By emphasizing artificial intelligence and consumer-centric operations, the company aims to streamline its services, potentially leading to lower operating costs for merchants and, subsequently, better margins for Alibaba. This approach is expected to involve algorithm-driven traffic distribution, similar to Pinduoduo’s strategy, making the platform more efficient and less labor-intensive.

However, Alibaba’s journey hasn’t been smooth sailing. The company has experienced considerable internal changes, including a major restructuring into six independent groups and the departure of key executives. These shifts, while part of its evolution, have created a sense of uncertainty about its direction.

Moreover, Alibaba’s bet on Chinese consumers ‘upgrading’ their spending habits didn’t pan out as expected, primarily due to the economic slowdown following the end of strict pandemic measures in China. This scenario favored Pinduoduo, which capitalized on the growing trend of value-for-money shopping.

The new smartphones have already appeared on the BIS Certification in India. Surprisingly, both the Realme 12 Pro and the Realme 12 Pro 5G have made it to the UAE’s TDRA certification.

The models Realme 12 Pro (RMX3842) and Realme 12 Pro+ (RMX3840) have made it to the TDRA, but the listing fails to detail any features or specifications of the upcoming smartphones. The listing does confirm the upcoming global launch of the Realme 12 Series.

Whereas, the Realme 12Pro+ could come with a 64MP Omnivision OV64B lens with 3x optical zoom.

There will be a dual-rear camera module embedded inside the circular camera design.

The Realme 12 Series is likely going to compete with the Redmi Note 13 Series, which is also scheduled to go global soon; meanwhile, it is already available in China. Details about its launch are not yet live, but we expect it to launch by the end of this month or early next month. However, the expected retail price is around 2000 yuan, which roughly translates to $273.

We expect more information via teasers from the official handle of Realme.

Additionally, Realme recently introduced the Realme 11 5G and Realme 11x 5G in India. The Realme 11 5G sports a 108MP primary sensor with 3x camera zoom and 67W SuperVooc charging. Meanwhile, the Realme 11 5G launched with a 64MP camera, 67W SuperVooc charging, and a 6.72-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

OnePlus Ace 3V key specifications tipped, likely to launch soon

Earlier this month, OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 12 equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in the Chinese market. Now, the brand is gearing up to launch the Ace 3 featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC in the home market. In a new leak, tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed that a mid-range Ace-branded phone is also in the works.

According to the leaker, OnePlus is working on an Ace-branded phone equipped with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset. He added that the device will come equipped with a flat display that offers a 1.5K resolution. While he did not mention the name of the device, it appears that it will be marketed as the OnePlus Ace 3V when it arrives on the market.

The OnePlus Ace 3V is expected to replace the Ace 2V, which debuted in March 2023. Since most of the new smartphones are launching around a month earlier than their predecessors, the Ace 3V may likely debut in February or March 2024.

To recall, the OnePlus Ace 2V was rebranded as the OnePlus Nord 3 in the global market. Hence, it is likely that the Ace 3V may break cover as the OnePlus Nord 4 or Nord 5 globally. The other details of the Ace 3V / Nord 4 are not known yet. The Ace 2V was priced at 2,299 Yuan (~$321) at launch. Hence, it is likely that the Ace 3V may carry similar pricing.

Speaking of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, it has already been seen on the Honor 100 and the Vivo S18. The said chipset is also expected to power the Realme 12 Pro series, which is expected to break cover in Q1 2024.

As the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series nears its expected launch on January 17, 2024, rumors and leaks have become more frequent. Nowadays, the leaks even detail the minute changes in the camera, design, and performance of the upcoming Galaxy flagship smartphones. Similarly, the famous tipster @IceUniverse on X.com (formerly Twitter.com) confirmed the presence of a 50 MP mode for its 5x telephoto lens, which would result in high-resolution output. Precisely, the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 5x Telephoto lens would be able to capture photos of 6120 x 8160 pixels.

These detailed photos would be much more crisp and detailed in comparison with their predecessors, including the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The previous generation Galaxy S23 Ultra launched with a 10 MP 3x optical zoom lens and another 10 MP telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom. So, this time, the Korean giant is expected to come with a 200 MP primary sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, a 50 MP Telephoto Lens with 5X optical zoom, and a 12 MP sensor with 10x zoom.

Apart from the high-resolution photos, the 50MP telephoto lens could support recording 8K videos with 5x optical zoom. Moreover, there will be a new AI feature called “object-aware engine,” along with other delicacies using the AI Prowess.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Specifications (Rumored)

If rumors are believed, then the new Galaxy S24 Ultra could come with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x LTPO display with a 2600 nits brightness and 144 Hz refresh rate. The smartphone would launch in Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400 variants, as per the respective region. It is expected to feature 8/12/16GB of RAM and 256/512/1TB of storage options.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra appears to have a 5000 mAh battery with 45W fast charging support and 15W wireless charging support. The Snapdragon variant of the smartphone recently made it to Geekbench, where it scored 2117 points in the single-core test and 6720 in the multi-core test. Even some high-resolution renders confirmed the smartphone’s flat-panel display rather than the curved one.

Following the inspiration from Galaxy Book 4, we could see the same AI features on the Galaxy S24 Series.

Google Chrome Receives New Security and Performance Features for a Seamless Browsing Experience

Google keeps adding new features to Chrome to keep it productive and up-to-date with ongoing trends. It recently announced the End of Tracking Cookies to safeguard personal data. It even added a Create Theme with an AI feature to enhance customizability. With a bunch of developments, Google Chrome is making the user experience better by prioritizing safety and performance first. Google aims to give people a safer and more efficient place to browse the web. Google brings some useful changes to the Chrome Browser out of which are already rolled out, and the remaining features will be available soon. Let’s dive deeper into the details:

Proactive Safety Check

Chrome’s Safety Check now works in the background without any issues and sends out proactive alerts. Users are notified when their passwords have been stolen when their browser versions are out of date, or when their site rights need their attention. These alerts are easy to access via the three-dot menu, so users can take action quickly to keep suspicious sites at bay.

Moreover, Chrome Browser automatically removes site permission (like access to your location or microphone) for sites that you haven’t visited in a while. Further, the ability to turn off notifications from sites has been streamlined.

Smarter Performance Controls:

Alongside new safety enhancements, Chrome introduces new performance controls. Building upon last year’s introduction of performance controls like Memory Saver mode, Chrome now provides more detailed insights. In Memory Saver mode, users can hover over tabs to see full information about how much memory they are using. Further, users can also specify sites that should always remain active, ensuring a smoother browsing experience. To set up Memory Saver Mode, the user should head to the performance section in settings and toggle Memory Saver on for an optimized performance experience.

Surprisingly, Chrome now lets save work groups to free up memory, declutter and organize the growing experience. The feature is coming in the coming few days and can be toggled by clicking on the “Save Group” feature, making it accessible on other devices.

Excitingly, Google Chrome is bringing support for the new AI model, Gemini, which will power even smarter and more helpful features in the first few months of 2024.

GTA 6 hacker faces indefinite imprisonment in hospital

Arion Kurtaj, an 18-year-old hacker from Oxford, has been sentenced to an indefinite stay in a secure hospital following a major security breach involving unreleased footage of the highly anticipated video game Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) which may launch in September 2025. Kurtaj, diagnosed with acute autism, was a prominent member of the international hacking group Lapsus$, known for their attacks on prominent tech firms like Nvidia, Microsoft, Uber, and Rockstar Games, causing nearly $10 million in damages.

Teen Hacker Behind Massive GTA 6 Leak Sentenced to Indefinite Hospital Stay

GTA 6

Despite being on bail for a previous Nvidia hack and under police protection at a Travelodge hotel, Kurtaj executed a significant hack on Rockstar Games. Using an Amazon Firestick, a hotel TV, and a mobile phone, he breached Rockstar’s internal Slack messaging system and leaked 90 clips of GTA 6, which he threatened to release further unless contacted by Rockstar. The leaks included the game’s source code and footage, posted under the alias “TeaPotUberHacker.”

Kurtaj’s trial was unique as his autism led to him being deemed unfit to stand trial in a traditional sense. Instead, the jury was tasked with determining if he was responsible for the attacks, rather than assessing criminal intent. His violent behavior in custody and continued expression of intent to return to cybercrime were significant factors in the trial.

The impact of Kurtaj’s actions was profound, with Rockstar Games reporting a $5 million loss and thousands of hours of staff time spent in recovery. Despite this, Kurtaj’s defense argued that the recent successful GTA 6 trailer release suggested minimal negative impact from the hack. However, the court recognized the broader harm caused by his and Lapsus$’s activities, including attacks on other major tech firms and individuals.

Another 17-year-old member of Lapsus$ was also convicted in the same trial, receiving a Youth Rehabilitation Order. Lapsus$, described as “digital bandits,” has been notorious for their bold cybercrimes, often publicly taunting their victims. While Kurtaj and the unnamed minor have been convicted, other members of the group are believed to still be at large. This case highlights the growing concern over sophisticated cybercrimes committed by increasingly younger individuals.

Figma informs employees that the deal with Adobe to buy the UX design outfit has collapsed

The multi-billion dollar acquisition deal of Figma by Adobe was expected to deliver a windfall for the staff of the software firm. However, after regulators failed to be convinced that the Adobe-Figma merger would not equate to a creativity software monopoly, the deal was off. On December 18, the US employees of Figma were notified via Slack and email notifications that the $20 billion deal was dead.

Figma

Figma called its 1,300 staff back from vacation to attend an emergency optional town hall that reviewed the future of the company in the aftermath of the scuttled Adobe deal. The town hall lasted 60 minutes and CEO Dylan Field said that the decision to call off the merger was jointly reached by both companies.

Figma will receive a $1 billion breakup fee from Adobe but it is unclear when this payment will be made. A Figma spokesperson said that the money will be used to accelerate the impact but the allocation template was yet to be decided.

Adobe and Figma failed to convince European Union lawmakers about the propriety of the deal. There had been a suspicion that the merger could create a creative software monopoly and this is a red flag for regulators. The talks extended for 15 months and Figma stated that despite thousands of hours spent with regulators detailing differences between both companies, they no longer see a path toward regulatory approval.

Figma would have gotten a huge windfall from the Adobe deal if it had sailed through. Co-founder and CEO Dylan Field would have gotten a 10% stake worth $2 billion. Employees were also expecting substantial payouts that would have enabled some of them to become homeowners. Figmates (as Figma staff are called internally) were expecting over 40% of their salaries when the deal closed, it was reported.

A cloud of disappointment has thus pervaded the Figma workforce after the announcement, but they are now bracing for the future. Figma remains a stable company with a positive outlook and decent performance in 2023. the company recently launched an innovative design keyboard. With its innovations, the company could therefore still get a big breakthrough in the next couple of years.

The CEO of the start-up behind Apple Watch 9’s sales halt says court victory vindicates his company’s persistent claims

Health tech firm Masimo is at the heart of the dispute with Apple relating to some Apple Watch models. The CEO of the company, Joe Kiani has spoken about the feud between his company and Apple that has resulted in the halt on the sale of some Apple Watch models.

Kiani, speaking to Bloomberg TV, stated that in 2013, he spoke to Apple because the company was considering acquiring Masimo or hiring him. He said that the actions leading to the infringement of their patent rights were not accidental but a deliberate taking of Masimo’s intellectual property. Kiani accused Apple of hiring more than 20 Masimo engineers. He said he was glad the world could now see that they were the true inventors and creators of these technologies. Kiani added that Masimo was open to settling with Apple but that is yet to materialize.

Could the sales halt transform the Apple Watch 9 into a collector’s item?

Apple announced this week that it would stop selling two Apple Watch models after the International Trade Commission ruled that their use of blood-oxygen sensing violated Masimo’s patents. The commission also proposed a ban on imports of the watches starting from December 25, 2023. Apple announced that the affected models will be withdrawn from shelves before the deadline. Masimo says the ITC decision to exclude certain foreign-made Apple Watch models demonstrates that even the world’s most powerful company must play by the rules.

Apple, however, has said it strongly disagrees with the ITC ruling. It is pursuing a range of legal and technical options to ensure that Apple Watch is available to customers. Should the order stand, Apple said it will continue to take all measures to return the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 to customers in the US as soon as possible.

The ban on sales affected the Series 9 and Ultra 2 models of the Apple Watch. Apple made a counter accusation against Kiani that he initiated the patent violation case to benefit his smartwatch which was a dupe of the Apple Watch.

Nikola founder fined $1 million and sentenced to four years in prison for fraud relating to its vaporware EV truck

Nikola founder and former CEO, Trevor Milton has been sentenced to four years in jail in a fraud case involving the electric truck manufacturer. Milton had claimed that truck maker Nikola had built its vehicle from the ground up. The jury found him guilty of misleading investors about the company’s technology. The former CEO was also ordered to pay a fine of $1 million.

Nikola

The fraud case was instituted in the US and the Federal prosecutor said Milton provided false information about Nikola’s capabilities. The false information included a claim that the company built the Nikola One electric truck from the ground up. The prosecutor also accused Milton of staging a video purportedly showing the Nikola One semi-driving under its power when it was rolling down a hill.

Nikola was founded in 2015 and claimed it would make zero-emission big rigs based on hydrogen fuel cell technology. In 2020, General Motors announced plans to acquire an 11% equity stake in Nikola. GM also said that it will assist Nikola in manufacturing its battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. However, the upward progression of Nikola was seemingly halted a week later after a bombshell report came from Hindenburg Research. The short-selling firm had accused Milton of fraud including the video of the Nikola One truck rolling down a hill. Milton was also accused of falsely claiming to produce hydrogen fuels at below-market rates, as well as obtaining several billions of dollars in truck orders.

A fallout of the damning report on Nikola saw General Motors swiftly backing out from its planned equity purchase and Milton stepping down as the board chair and CEO. The report also triggered a federal investigation that led to the arrest of Milton. The crisis led to the scaling down of the company’s operations and in 2021, it halted work on its electric ATV and motorboat project. About $14 million is estimated to have been lost by Nikola as a result of the discontinuation of the electric ATV and motorboat development.

There has been no official response by Nikola or Trevor Milton on the fraud case ruling. This may however not be the end of the case.
