Realme GT5 Pro Review: The Hidden Flagship Killer is Here

It just happened so soon, I got my hands on this Realme’s latest flagship phone, the GT 5 PRO, a flagship phone with 8 Gen3. Let me tell you the truth, some of Realme’s offerings before this seemed a bit cheap, but now, I can clearly see that Realme is changing its brand positioning. After a week of use, I must say that the Realme GT 5 PRO is truly a flagship product.

Unbox

The Realme GT 5 PRO comes in a black box that shows champagne-colored decorative lines with a reflective finish.

Opening the box, the package includes the phone, a 100w power adapter, a charging cable, and a case that has a leather-like texture on the back and decorative lines where the lens is located. The case is the accessory I like most, coming with excellent quality.

Design

In terms of design, it has changed quite a bit, and in my opinion, the phone’s design has gotten closer to mainstream and more in line with things people have been expecting.

I got this GT 5 PRO in a white leather version, officially named Bright Moon variant in Chinese. The leather color of the back cover is a bit close to Beige. The touch of this leather is excellent. Especially coming with the low-key beige color, the new GT phone’s build and tone are much upgraded, if comparing it with its predecessors.

Meanwhile, unlike the previous GT series, the back of the Realme GT 5 PRO is very restrained, with no other decorative elements on the back of the phone other than the lens module and the metal logo. If you compare the GT 5 PRO with the GT 5, I don’t think anyone would think it’s the same series.

Back to the lens module, the circular lens module… emm, It’s a design that can’t go wrong, and it’s worth noting that the interior of the lens module is designed with a radial pattern, paired with a rounded metal bezel around it. Among all phones with round lens modules, the Realme’s new GT is likely to be the most impressive one for me.

As for Realme’s logo, many people can’t understand the asymmetrical design and think it’s ugly and abrupt. But if you try to think like a designer, when completing an article, people tend to sign their names in the bottom right corner. So maybe Realme does it the same way, after designing the lens module, the whole phone is complete. After all, the part below Realme’s logo is blank.

The Realme GT 5 PRO has a micro-curved screen at the front, and if you compare it to the Vivo X100, you can see that the GT 5 PRO has a fairly narrow screen bezel, and personally, I prefer a straight screen. But I still have to say that the front of the Realme GT 5 PRO is quite impressive.

The Realme GT 5 PRO uses a metal frame and from some angles, it gives an illusion that the phone is very thin (But not thick actually). Since the edge is very straight, it’s not as rounded as it looks in the hand. But it’s still very comfortable.

What surprised me the most is that the Realme GT 5 PRO uses USB 3.2, and in a single large file write test, the transfer speed is about 5Gbps. good job, Realme.

Performance

The Realme GT 5 PRO comes with 8 Gen3. In Geekbench 5, the single-core performance is the strongest among the 8 Gen3 phones we have tested so far. Since we got an early version, there were abnormal stats in the multi-core test and the scores were on the low side. However, in Antutu benchmark the scores have surpassed the Xiaomi 14. Overall, with the flagship soc with LPDDR5X and UFS4.0 hardware combination, there is no need to worry about performance at all.

In the game test, Realme GT 5 PRO still performs very well, the frame rate fluctuation is very small, what’s more surprising to me is that Realme GT 5 PRO has a very strong temperature control, after 20 minutes of Genshin Impact, the surface temperature is only 43 °.

Camera

Realme GT 5 PRO has a big upgrade in the camera. First of all, the biggest improvement in hardware is of course the telephoto lens.

The telephoto len’s native focal length is 2.7x and supports macro shooting. In mid-range phones, a periscope lens indeed deserves a round of applause. I really like using the telephoto to shoot photos, so I also took some sample with it.

In daily life, the telephoto lens is easy to use and does not require much skill to take good photos. And in low-light environments, thanks to the telephoto 1/1.56-inch sensor, the image quality is very good. Since this telephoto lens supports OIS, you don’t need to worry about image stability when shooting night scenes.

In terms of video recording, Realme GT 5 PRO supports recording 4k60fps and 8k24fps videos. And the telephoto supports 4k 30fps Dolby Vision HDR video, this is amazing!

Screen

This phone has a customized 6.78-inch BOE screen, which is indeed excellent in terms of display effect. It is worth noting that this screen supports a maximum peak brightness of 4500nit, but of course only achievable in a small area. In actual use, Realme GT 5 PRO has a maximum manual brightness of 1000nit and an excitation brightness of 1600nit. Realme has done a very good job of giving us the power to decide the brightness.

At low brightness, it comes with PWM dimming, and at mid-to-high brightness, the phone shifts to DC-like dimming.

Battery & Charger

The 5400mAh battery kills the game and the Realme GT 5 PRO’s battery has an excellent battery performance.

On the charging side, 100W Supervooc charging can completely fill the battery in about 30 minutes. Not only that, the GT 5 PRO also supports wireless fast charging up to 50W. Although it is not as powerful as before, but it still performs well.

Software

In terms of system, Realme GT5 PRO comes with Realme UI 5 based on Android 14.

There are two features I really like – First, it supports manual setting of specific app’s refresh rates, so, finally, you can enjoy a high refresh rate on popular apps like Tiktok.

Exclusive Game Memory is my favorite feature, it can effectively prevent games in the background from being taken down. If you play games a lot, you would know how exactly it boosts the gaming experience. Realme seems to know exactly what gamers want.

Conclusion

I can say that the Realme GT5 PRO is a big change from Realme’s previous offerings, the camera has been improved and the look has changed dramatically. However, as a reviewer, I admire the courage, and the change by far is impressive. At least what’s going to be sure is that, the Realme GT5 PRO has become more versatile, while Realme still maintains its tradition of delivering good hardware and experience that exceeds its price point.

The trailer broke the internet as the YouTube video was bombarded with views and comments from tens of millions of people. A number of new records were broken as well. So let’s have a look.

GTA 6 Trailers Breaks Multiple Records in a Single Day

For those unaware, the trailer for GTA 6 was first released on 5th December 2023. The video exploded on YouTube, raking in over 90 million views in just the first 24 hours. Unfortunately, this trailer didn’t beat the record for the highest number of views in a single day. It is the third fastest most viewed video in 24 hours, falling just behind two records held by BTS songs, which includes ‘Butter’ that received 108 million views in 24 hours. However, there are a bunch of new world records that the game achieved even before its actual release.

GTA 6

As of right now, the trailer sits at an impressive 117 million+ views on YouTube, beating out the 12-year old trailer for its predecessor, GTA V, in just 12 hours. The Guinness Book of World Records stated that the GTA 6 trailer has managed to become the most viewed video game reveal of all time in just 24 hours. That is not all, the video has also achieved the title of the most viewed non-music YouTube video on the first day, beating out the previous record of 59.4 million views that was held by MrBeast.

The GTA 6 trailer also became the most-liked YouTube video in 24 hours, garnering over 8.9 million views. At the moment, this figure now sits at nearly 10 million likes. Keep in mind that this is just the first trailer for the Grand Theft Auto 6, with more to come soon. Furthermore, these records were for YouTube and do not account for the millions of views that were received on other platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Notably, the trailer helped Rockstar Games gain millions of subscribers on YouTube, making them just 90,000 short of the 10 million subscriber milestone.

Xiaomi 15 series: Early leak hints at 6.36-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate

While the ink is still drying on the Xiaomi 14 series launch, leaks and rumors about the next iteration, the Xiaomi 15 series, have already started surfacing. Prolific tech leaker Digital Chat Station has shared some details about the new lineup in a recent Weibo post.

Xiaomi 14 (Review)

Xiaomi 15 series leak

According to the leak, the standard Xiaomi 15 will retain the same 6.36-inch display size as the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 14. And, unlike the Pro model, Xiaomi won’t be switching to a curved panel for the vanilla model.

Xiaomi 15 Leak

Xiaomi has been relying on CSOT OLED panels for many of its flagship devices, including the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Redmi K60 Ultra, and Redmi K70 series. This trend is expected to continue with the Xiaomi 15 series, with CSOT likely supplying the OLED panel for the future series.

The leak further hints at a screen with a peak brightness of 1400 nits and a power-saving 120Hz LTPO refresh rate technology that can potentially save 15-20% of battery life.

Leaker Digital Chat Station has also revealed some details about the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Pro. He suggests it will boast a 2K resolution display with even thinner bezels than the Xiaomi 14 Pro, going from 0.9mm to an impressive 0.6mm. Additionally, the device is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor.

Xiaomi 15 Pro Leak

It’s important to note that these are early leaks and should be taken with a grain of salt. The Xiaomi 14 series has only just launched in mainland China, and there’s no official word on a global release yet. Furthermore, rumors of a Xiaomi 14 Ultra, a successor to last year’s top-tier model, are also circulating.

Regardless, these early leaks offer a glimpse into what we might expect from the Xiaomi 15 series. We’ll keep you updated as more concrete information emerges.

Samsung’s Reigns Q3 Foldable Smartphone Sales Skyrocket to 7 Million Units with 45% Share

Foldable smartphones are becoming more and more popular. Recent reports show that in the third quarter of the year, companies like Samsung, Google, Huawei, Xiaomi, TECNO, and others sold a whopping 7 million foldable phones, setting a record. The annual growth rate is a solid 16%, and compared to the previous quarter, it shot up by a huge 215%. Now, the big question is: how much of the market did each brand grab during this amazing growth? Here are the details…

Samsung Dominates Q3 Foldable Smartphone Sales with 45% Market Share

When it comes to foldable smartphones, Samsung, the first brand that comes to mind, stayed at the top this quarter. The company grabbed a 45% share of the market. At first glance, it might raise eyebrows that the company’s numbers went down by 75%. However, when you consider the increasing competition and sales from other brands, it’s not all that surprising. This is especially true when you think about how Samsung’s models are pricier compared to all its competitors.

Right now, Honor and Huawei are both in the second spot in the market, sharing it with a 6% market share each. Other brands like OPPO, vivo, and Xiaomi are also in the mix. Experts are saying that the last quarter of 2023 might bring a change. They predict a significant drop in smartphone sales, with an expected decrease of as much as 36%.

Unfortunately, it looks like Samsung might be hit hard by this situation. As mentioned earlier, even though Samsung’s market share is decreasing, their positive outlook is mainly because the overall market is growing. To put it simply, while Samsung’s piece of the pie from a 100-slice cake is getting smaller, it’s not a big deal because the whole cake is getting bigger.

However, if sales drop and competition heats up in the last quarter of the year, and both the overall market and Samsung’s share go down, the Korean manufacturer could face a real problem. Still, there’s nothing we can do about all this except wait and see what happens.

OnePlus 12 teardown shows off huge 9,140mm² vapor chamber cooling

Fresh off its Chinese launch, the OnePlus 12 has already been taken apart by tech experts at WekiHome. The teardown itself follows a standard procedure, but it offers a fascinating look at the phone’s well-organized internals and its impressive cooling system.

While the video covers all the small details, we will cover the main highlights in this story.

OnePlus 12 teardown

The first thing that strikes you is the clean layout of the internal components. The motherboard and other crucial parts are neatly tucked under a three-piece plastic cover. The cover holds the wireless charging pad, NFC antenna, LED flash, and ambient light sensor.

After it’s removed, we get a clear view of the phone’s impressive camera sensors. The OnePlus 12 boasts a powerful 50MP Sony LYT-808 primary sensor with OIS, a 64MP OmniVision OV64B sensor with an OIS-assisted 3x periscope zoom lens, and a 48MP Sony IMX581 ultrawide unit with autofocus.

The teardown also shed light on the smartphone’s upgraded haptics motor, which OnePlus claims is 18% more powerful and 60% faster than previous iterations.

The teardown goes further, meticulously removing layers to expose the massive vapor chamber nestled beneath the screen. Particularly, OnePlus has opted for a substantial 9,140mm² VC (Vapor Chamber) cooling system, which covers an impressive area of 38,547mm².

This behemoth of a cooling system should allow the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor to sustain peak performance even during demanding tasks.

The teardown also reveals several rubber gaskets, which contribute to the phone’s IP65 water resistance rating. This means the OnePlus 12 can withstand splashes and light rain, making it suitable for everyday use.

The OnePlus 12 teardown paints a picture of a meticulously designed flagship. The impressive camera system, powerful cooling solution, and water resistance highlight OnePlus’ commitment to delivering a truly high-end experience.

Apple M3 MacBook Air and new iPad models may launch in March 2024: Gurman

Apple is working on launching its next generation of M3 MacBook Air with more powerful specs alongside refreshed iPad models. Now, a new report has hinted at the possible launch timeline of the two product lines. So let’s have a look.

Apple M3 MacBook Air & Refreshed iPads Early 2024 Launch

The news arrives from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who claims that the Cupertino based giant is planning on releasing the new MacBooks and iPads around the same time. Apple is currently seeing a decline in its Mac and iPad sales, so the fresh announcements would likely help raise demand. Apart from the new gadgets, the brand is also working on the macOS 14.3, which is expected to be released along with the new MacBooks. The new iPad launch timeline is in line with our previous report.

The report adds that Apple will launch a new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air as well as two size variants of the iPad Air for the first time ever. Notably, the OLED iPad Pro is another major announcement that is expected to launch next year. Apple’s new MacBook Air models will be powered by its latest M3 series processors, which include the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. These are the same chips that powered the recent MacBook Pro lineup that launched a while back.

For those unaware, the M3 series was unveiled during the scary fast event back in October. While the iPhone maker did overhaul the design of the MacBook Air back in 2022, no drastic change is planned for next year’s M3 MacBook Air. Although, these newer models will come with improved hardware. Gurman cited industry sources regarding the early 2024 launch timeframe. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra live images confirm minute design changes

Samsung is expected to hold its first ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event of 2024 in mid-January. The star of this conference will be the Galaxy S24 series.

Lately, we have been hearing a lot about the company’s next-gen flagships. Hence, we know how they will look and almost almost all the features they will offer. But new leaks keep pouring in revealing minute details.

Today’s leak showcases the Galaxy S24 Ultra in the flesh and compares its design with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Let’s go through the details.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Earlier today, Sogi published a story with side-by-side live images of the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The article, which has been now taken down, described the design changes and specs of Samsung’s upcoming premium slab smartphone.

As per the pictures, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will come with design changes despite looking identical to the Galaxy S23 Ultra at first sight. The placement of buttons and holes will be the same but with some differences.

The power and volume keys will be slightly bigger. Overall, the phone’s structure, which uses a titanium alloy frame, will be more boxy (including S Pen’s bottom) with fewer curves than before. Even the display itself will be more flatter.

As far as specs are concerned, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset paired with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage. It will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

The device will be built around a 6.8-inch QHD+ LTPO (1-120Hz) AMOLED display. It will be available in Titanium Black, Titanium Gray, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow color options.
