Nintendo Shows Off Switch 2 to Developers, It’s More Powerful Than Expected

Rumors about the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 are still circulating. For example we recently reported that the upcoming handheld was shown to a select group of press at Gamescom 2023. However, at the time, this was just an allegation. Now, these leaks have been confirmed. Moreover, not only was the Nintendo Switch 2 shown, but also a special version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in 2017. Here are the details…

Nintendo is closer to launching a Switch 2 than you think

Eurogamer reported that developer presentations for Nintendo Switch 2 took place at Gamescom 2023. Partners were shown tech demos of how well the system is designed to run. One of the demos was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a launch title for the Nintendo Switch. The 2017 version of the game was already very successful and ran at 60 FPS on the console. It is unclear why Nintendo decided to remake the game.

Nintendo Switch 2

Switch 2 demo is a souped-up version of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which runs at a higher quality than the original Switch. This shows that the Switch 2 will be much more powerful than its predecessor. Many people thought that the tech demo was a remastered version of Breath of the Wild coming with the Switch 2. However, it is important to remember that this is just a tech demo, and there is no indication that the game will be re-released. The real issue is that the Switch 2 is ready to play games, which suggests that the console’s announcement is imminent.

Nintendo has yet to publicly discuss plans for its inevitable Switch successor, though its new hardware is widely expected to launch at some point in 2024. Publicly, the company has announced a strong line-up of games to see the current Switch through the rest of 2023 and into the start of next year, with the impressive-looking Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a Super Mario RPG remake and a new WarioWare all coming this side of Christmas.

iQOO-11-Pro

Tipster Digital Chat Station has shared some new specifications of the iQOO 12 smartphones. He suggests the device will get a 144Hz Samsung E7 AMOLED panel that offers a 2K resolution. The tipster also mentions the OmniVision OV64B periscope zoom camera, something the tipster highlighted in previous leaks as well. DCS did not specify but it’s possible the camera sensor could be limited to the iQOO 12 Pro.

Furthermore, the iQOO 12 series is rumored to feature a metal build and support 200W fast charging. Additionally, both phones are expected to come equipped with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a USB Type-C 3.x port. Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Strap Design Flaw Causes Watches to Fall Off Wrists

Samsung has made a few upgrades to the Galaxy Watch 6 series smartwatch this year, including a rotating bezel for navigation and a new strap attachment mechanism called the “One-click system.” Previously, users had to pull back a pin to attach or detach the strap, but the Galaxy Watch 6 uses a button instead. This makes it easier and faster to change straps, and the new system is also compatible with older smartwatches.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Strap design flaw

However, some Galaxy Watch 6 series owners have reported that the new straps can be accidentally detached. As highlighted by Sammobile, a Reddit thread has been gaining traction with users pointing out how the new one-click strap mechanism on the Galaxy Watch 6 series is a design fault.

Some Galaxy Watch 6 Strap Design Flaw

For users with pronounced wrist bones, the new strap’s quick-release button can be accidentally pressed, causing the strap to detach from the watch. This has led to some watches falling off people’s wrists, especially during exercise.

A video posted on YouTube (linked below) shows how the quick-release button can be pressed by the wrist bone, especially if the watch is worn snugly and lower than the wrist bone. Some users have suggested that the watch should be worn above the wrist bone, but others say that this is not always possible or comfortable.

Samsung has not yet commented on the issue, but there are a few things that users can do to prevent their watches from falling off. One is to wear the watch looser, which will make it less likely that the quick-release button will be pressed. Another is to use a different strap with a pin-based mechanism. Thankfully, you can use Galaxy Watch 5’s pin-based strap as it’s supported for Watch 6 too.

Also, if you are considering buying the Galaxy Watch 6, it may be a good idea to try on the watch in a physical store before you buy it. This will give you a chance to test the new strap mechanism and see if it is comfortable for you.

Volkswagen’s new SUV unveiled in collaboration with XPeng at Munich Motor Show

Volkswagen disclosed the details of the ambitious partnership with XPeng Motors and SAIC Motor Corporation, aimed at solidifying Volkswagen’s presence in the dynamic Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market. The announcement was made at the Munich Motor Show.

This groundbreaking collaboration is set to introduce a novel three-row, seven-seater SUV model named ‘ID.8’ into the automotive landscape. Anticipated to make its debut around 2026, the ID.8 will share a platform with XPeng’s G9 model, marking a significant stride as one of the pioneer “co-developed” vehicles to enter the domestic market. This launch is expected to supplant the existing Tiguan fuel version in China.

The initial impressions of the ID.8, drawn from concept designs, reveal a seamless fusion of integrated LED daytime running lights that gracefully merge into LED headlights on the front fascia, with a refined lower grille sporting an elegant smoked black mesh design.

image for representation only

Beneath the surface, the ID.8 is poised to provide consumers with a diverse array of choices, including single-motor and dual-motor variants, with the potential for selecting between lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium battery packs. The cutting-edge EV is estimated to deliver an impressive maximum range of up to 700 kilometers. Furthermore, it may incorporate XPeng’s dual-chamber air suspension system and an intelligent assisted driving system, along with dual-laser radar and dual Orin X chips.

This strategic alliance between Volkswagen and XPeng has the potential to set a precedent for Western automakers seeking to harness Chinese EV expertise, while their Chinese counterparts can leverage global distribution networks.

The collaboration encompasses the production of two fresh battery-powered Volkswagen models, leveraging essential XPeng technologies such as vehicle-to-anything (V2X) and XNGP solutions, an advanced ADAS system comparable to Tesla’s FSD, and an innovative battery chassis architecture.

Despite XPeng’s smaller market share compared to industry giants like Tesla and local powerhouse BYD, it has garnered accolades for its unwavering commitment to advanced technologies and proprietary autonomous vehicle development. Volkswagen’s acquisition of a 5% stake in XPeng not only provides access to autonomous vehicle expertise but also unlocks XPeng’s battery and smart cabin technology.

For XPeng, this partnership offers a gateway to a more extensive customer base, as Volkswagen’s local joint ventures secured an impressive 15% share of China’s retail auto market last year. This collaboration is poised to propel the scaling of XPeng’s AV systems, enhance data collection, and refine algorithms, following a model akin to Tesla’s data feedback loop, contingent upon the success of the new models.

Simultaneously, the partnership holds the potential to elevate Volkswagen’s standing in China’s EV market, where it secured a modest 3% share of the new energy vehicle market in the preceding year. Furthermore, this strategic alignment could facilitate XPeng’s international expansion aspirations.

China bans iPhones for Government Officials, sending Apple shares tumbling

In a significant move, China has imposed a ban on the use of iPhones by central government officials, according to reports from unnamed sources familiar with the matter. The news sent shockwaves through the market, causing Apple shares to plummet by 3.6%, marking the company’s largest daily drop in a month, with the stock closing at $182.91 in New York. Prior to this, Apple had enjoyed a 46% increase in its stock value this year.

The Wall Street Journal reports that managers have been relaying the ban to their staff through various means, including chat groups and meetings. Despite attempts to seek clarification from both China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Apple, no official response has been received.

Remarkably, sources indicate that Chinese officials had already been informally steering clear of iPhones for some time, even before the pandemic, though there was no formal policy in place. Instead, these officials have increasingly favored smartphones manufactured by domestic companies, most notably Huawei.

This development follows a broader trend of tensions between China and the United States, which has seen restrictions placed on various Chinese tech companies. In a parallel move, some Chinese government ministries previously banned Teslas from their premises due to security concerns.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, had previously made a high-profile visit to China, highlighting the country’s importance as both a market and a manufacturing hub, contributing approximately 19% of the company’s total revenue.

This iPhone ban for government officials may be viewed as a retaliatory measure in response to actions taken by the United States against Chinese technology companies. It has the potential to impact not only Apple but also other foreign brands with established operations in China.

In recent years, Huawei and ZTE have faced ongoing restrictions imposed by the U.S., with the Biden administration going so far as to halt approvals of new telecommunications equipment from these companies due to perceived national security risks.

This ban on iPhones could signal that China is unwilling to exempt any U.S. company from its efforts to reduce reliance on American technologies. China represents one of Apple’s most significant markets, generating nearly a fifth of its total revenue.

While the immediate impact on earnings remains uncertain, given the iPhone’s popularity in China, analysts believe that this move will serve as a stark reminder of the complex relationship between international companies and China, especially amid ongoing geopolitical challenges.

The Future of Electric Vehicles Is Here: CATL Debuts 10-Minute Charge, 400-Kilometer Range Shenxing Battery

Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular with new models being released almost every day. However, when we look at each of these vehicles, hey all have similar ranges and charging times. While other technologies such as self-driving can compensate this for many users, the increase in the number of vehicles is driving some regions with poor infrastructure into a serious crisis. Fortunately, the world’s largest battery maker, CATL, has unveiled a new battery that can be charged in 10 minutes and has a range of 400 kilometers. Here are the details…

CATL Unveils New LFP Shenxing Battery with 10-Minute Charge Time

CATL, or Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited, is a Chinese battery manufacturer and technology company that specializes in the production of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. While the company may not be in the news every day, it is a major player in the industry. The Chinese tech giant is currently the world’s leading supplier of batteries to dozens of different companies, including Tesla and BMW. Its market share is estimated to be at least 37%, according to 2022 data.

Now, CATL has unveiled its new Shenxing battery in Europe. The Shenxing battery is made using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) material, which is known for its safety and long lifespan. It is also the first LFP battery to support 4C ultra-fast charging. This means that the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes.

CATL says that the Shenxing battery is also more energy-efficient than previous LFP batteries. This means that it can offer a longer range on a single charge. The company claims that the Shenxing battery can achieve a range of 400 kilometers on a single charge, which is comparable to the range of some ternary lithium batteries.

The Shenxing battery is currently in the prototype stage, but CATL plans to start mass production in 2024. The company says that the battery will be used in a variety of electric vehicles, including passenger cars, buses, and trucks. In addition to the Shenxing battery, CATL also unveiled a new battery management system (BMS) at the IAA MOBILITY 2023. The BMS is designed to improve the safety, efficiency, and lifespan of electric vehicle batteries.
