Japan’s Push for EV Charging may be A Huge Step in the Right Direction

Japan is gearing up to supercharge its EV infrastructure, aiming for a major overhaul by the end of the decade. Recent insights from Nikkei suggest the nation’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is setting ambitious benchmarks to bolster its fast-charging provisions.

The advancement of charging systems in Japan is far behind Europe and the US

The focal point of METI’s plans is a mandate to increase the charging power of highway stations. The current standard, averaging at 40 kW, is anticipated to change to 90 kW by 2030. While these figures represent a significant bump, they surprisingly lag behind global expectations. Why? This conservative 40 kW average is the result of an aggressive installation of 50 kW CHAdeMO chargers during the early Nissan Leaf phase, which, despite their sheer numbers, provide sub-optimal charging durations due to their limited power.

Electric Charging

However, the proposed 90 kW, though an improvement, seems inadequate for future EVs. While select high-traffic zones might witness 150 kW chargers, it is pretty low in comparison to Europe and the US, where it’s a whopping 250-350 kW, especially along interstates and other important highways.

METI’s holistic approach isn’t just confined to power increments. Plans also encompass denser charger placement, with one every 44 miles along highways, sweetened by the allure of subsidies for operators.

Transitioning from time-based to energy-specific pricing, METI plans to achieve a pay-per-kWh system, targeting an on-the-go payment model by possibly 2025. This could prove pivotal in attracting users by offering transparency and convenience.

METI’s actions undeniably align with the global electrification run. However, the metrics, especially regarding power, remind us to exercise caution rather than audacity. For Japan to fully embrace the EV revolution’s spirit, it might need to lay out its plans and the resources the country needs to achieve those high ambitions.

Decathlon’s LD 920 E is a Revamp in E-Biking Excellence

As the catalogue of electric bikes keeps getting larger and larger, French sports retailer and manufacturer, Decathalon, makes a considerable amount of inroad bikes – especially with their divergent branding approach. Their list includes Rockrider for mountain enthusiasts, Triban for the urban and long-distance road riders, and B’Twin for versatile cyclists. Recently, they’ve been focusing on electric bikes, and they’ve got some new updates

The Bike has a touchscreen that shows detailed information while riding

The latest news is about an updated version of the B’Twin LD 920 E e-bike. Last year, this bike was made for long trips. Now, they’ve added an automatic gear system to make riding even easier. This new gear system was made with a company from Belgium called E2 Drives. It uses two motors to help you pedal and change gears smoothly. There are sensors that check the bike’s performance really fast, about 20,000 times in just one second. This means the ride feels smooth and easy.

Electric Bike

One of the best parts is the battery. It’s hidden in the bike frame and can last up to 150 kilometers (or about 94 miles) when it’s fully charged. The bike also has some cool extra features. There’s a GPS tracker built-in, so you can find your bike if it gets stolen. It also has a touchscreen that shows useful information while you’re riding. Consumers can pick different modes, like Eco or Boost, to change how the bike rides. There’s also a strong light at the front and a rack at the back for your bags.

Those interested can buy the B’Twin LD 920 E on Decathlon’s website for 2,999 Euros (about $3,300 USD). If you’re looking for a solid city e-bike with cool features, this could be a good choice.

Musk-Zuckerberg Showdown: Elon Musk may Require Surgery Before the Fight

As per our coverage yesterday, Mark Zuckerberg seemed to have given up after trying to persuade Elon Musk for a fight. In the latest twist to the much-anticipated battle between tech moguls Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, a potential medical setback for Musk could push the duel to an undetermined date – but the fight may still happen. Recent news has Musk considering surgery after revealing he’s undergoing an MRI for his neck and upper back. The SpaceX and Tesla CEO shared this update on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, causing Tesla’s share price to drop by over two percent shortly after.

More people are expected to get behind the fight if a Charity Fundraiser will be involved

This face-off, which began as playful online banter between the two, had the internet abuzz, speculating if they would actually exchange blows in the ring. Zuckerberg had initially thrown down the gauntlet on Threads, hinting at an August 26 fight night. While Musk hasn’t confirmed this date, he did state that the match would be streamed on X, dedicating all proceeds to a charity supporting veterans.

Zuckerberg’s witty retort questioned the reliability of X as a platform for charity fundraising. This jest highlights their history of light-hearted and sometimes earnest differences on subjects like artificial intelligence, space exploration, and social media.

However, with Musk’s medical revelations, it’s uncertain when or if this duel will occur. Beyond the humorous jabs, both moguls are serious about their training, with Zuckerberg expressing genuine enthusiasm for the sport and his willingness for the challenge.

Regardless of the outcome, their exchange has captured the internet’s attention, as everyone waits to see whether these tech giants will settle their playful feud in tweets or take it to the ring.

A New Electric Audi RS6 will make a Comeback in 2025

Audi is bringing back the RS6 sedan in 2025, but this time it’s all-electric. It’s been 15 years since the last RS6 sedan, which had a powerful V10 engine like the Lamborghini Gallardo. The new electric version is expected to be even more powerful. AutoCar says the new electric RS6 will be available in 2025, a year after the A6 e-tron’s release. The RS6 EV has been seen during tests and it’s believed to be stronger than the older gas model.

The car will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60mph in under 3 seconds

This new RS6 will use the Volkswagen Group’s new electric framework called the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) chassis. The first car to use this will be the Porsche Macan EV, coming out later this year.

Audi

The A6 e-tron, shown in 2021, has an impressive 435-mile driving range on a full charge. This is a big step up from older Audi electric cars. Plus, it can charge really fast, getting 186 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

The A6 e-tron has two motors and can go from 0-60 mph in only 4 seconds. There’s also a simpler rear-wheel-drive model coming. The RS6 model is expected to be even faster, with over 700 hp, and should hit 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds. Audi is gearing up to face strong competition in the electric car market.

Chinese smuggler caught with 837 CPUs, 10 SSDs & 900 RAM sticks in car’s undercarriage

A Chinese smuggler has been apprehended by Chinese customs officials with a huge tranche of CPUs, SSDs, and RAM sticks. The cache of tech devices was found during a routine search on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge. The packages were undeclared in a passenger car this is one of the biggest smuggling busts in recent times.

A Weibo blog post by Chinese Customs provided the optics of the smuggling bust which occurred on August 4. The attention of the customs officers was first aroused when the automated machine inspection flagged abnormal content. A further manual inspection revealed the materials in the undercarriage. An unusual underbody seam structure pointed to a possible stash of items. This subsequently resulted in a large section revealing the meticulously wrapped packages. The package contained 837 CPUs, 10 SSDs, and 900 RAM sticks.

The smuggling of goods from Hong Kong or Macau into the mainland is mainly in pursuit of better profits. Smugglers hope to make better profits on the mainland where 13% VAT is applicable. The estimated value of the huge cache of smuggled items has not been stated, but this could be huge. This is not also an isolated incident of smuggling or failure to declare the import of high-value tech components. The Chinese customs authorities have continued to make recoveries of such nature in varying magnitude.

According to the Weibo report, most smugglers are easily identified through their suspicious behavior. It is unclear what is the fate of the suspected smuggler but he could possibly face a jail term or a fine.

Apple to Replace Mute Switch with Action Button on iPhone 15 Ultra

We have very little time left to meet the iPhone 15 series. According to claims, the company’s eagerly awaited new phone will be introduceon September 12. As the reveal of the iPhone 15 gets closer, we keep learning new things about these upcoming phones. The most recent gossip is about the biggest model, the iPhone 15 Ultra (also known as iPhone 15 Pro Max). Here are the details…

The iPhone 15 Ultra May Have a New Button That Changes Everything

Apple is expected to use the term “Ultra” with its new generation iPhone 15 Pro Max model. In addition to this, a significant design change is expected in the phone. Recently, images were revealed that are claimed to be the case of the flagship version of the iPhone 15 model, and details about the new ‘action button’ of the iPhone 15 series have also started to emerge.

As you may know, up until now, all iPhone models have had a switch-like button right above the volume keys. Users could use this button to mute their phones and avoid unwanted situations. However, according to recent information shared by a leakster named Majin Bu, this button will be transformed into a new ‘action button’. This button, which doesn’t have a clear function, could be set to perform different tasks.

Although it is stated that these cases are not original, manufacturers produce these cases based on the iPhone product models they get. On the left side of the cases, we now see three button locations, which is unusual. While there are larger buttons for volume up and down at the bottom, a slightly recessed design appears for the new ‘action button’ at the top. The design we are used to continues in other parts of the case.

This programmable button is expected to act as a shutter button due to its ability to perform different tasks. We’ll see what kind of innovations Apple’s new ‘action button’ will bring to us. So, what do you think about the case claimed to be for iPhone 15 Ultra and the new ‘action button’? Already miss the mute switch like me?

New Realme phone with 150W charging, 5200mAh battery might be in the works

Realme has launched the fastest-charging smartphone to date, the Realme GT 3, which supports 240W charging. The company continues to push the envelope in the charging department and has plans to launch more phones with extreme charging capabilities. The Realme GT 5 is already rumored to support 240W charging with a 4600mAh battery, and now a tipster suggests that the company has a smartphone with 150W charging support in the works.

According to the tipster Digital Chat Station, Realme is taking the lead in the industry with its impressive 150W + 5200mAh battery and 240W + 4600mAh battery charging solutions. The company is apparently working on a new phone that will feature the first configuration.

Realme GT Neo 5
Realme GT Neo 5

The tipster also spilled the beans that OnePlus is in the process of developing a 150W power and high-current UFCS solution, though the battery for the initial model is on the smaller side. Right now, it seems like the focus is on increasing battery capacity for the ultra-100W fast charging solution, while progress on developing second-level 300W charging is currently slow.

Realme kicked off this year by introducing the Realme GT Neo5 (review) in China. This smartphone boasts 240W fast charging and a 4600mAh battery. Notably, there’s also a variant of the Realme GT Neo5 with a punchy combo of 150W fast charging and a beefy 5000mAh battery. Interestingly, this same phone was rebranded as the GT 3 for the global market.

But that’s not all, Realme GT 5 is currently in the pipeline. It should sport a whopping 24GB of RAM and a massive 1TB of storage. It’ll offer two battery options: one with 240W fast charging coupled with a 4600mAh battery, and another with 150W fast charging and an even larger 5200mAh battery.

The device apparently rocks a sleek 6.74-inch 1.5K “ultra-narrow” flat display that supports a 144Hz refresh rate and 2160Hz PWM dimming. For selfies, there’s a 16-megapixel front camera, while the rear boasts a 50MP IMX890 main shooter with OIS optical anti-shake, an 8MP lens, and a 2MP sensor.

Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro to Take Smartphone Photography to the Next Level with Stacked Design CIS

We have very little time left to meet the iPhone 15 series. According to claims, the company’s eagerly awaited new phone will be introduced on September 12. However, as you know, things move very quickly in the technology world, and according to claims, Apple has already started working on the iPhone 16. Moreover, new information about these works has managed to shed light on the camera features of the iPhone 16. Here are the details…

How Stacked Design CIS Will Make the iPhone 16 Pro Camera a Revolutionary Leap Forward

If you’re a technology enthusiast and you often read Gizmochina, you’ve probably heard the name Ming-Chi Kuo. This analyst, who has specialized in Apple, often learns about most things regarding the company shortly after Tim Cook. His analyses, which also often turn out to be accurate, help us get an idea about the company’s future. Most recently, Kuo presented us with an interesting claim about the iPhone 16 Pro’s camera.

iPhone 16

Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple is planning to use a new kind of camera sensor in the iPhone 16 Pro. This sensor is called a “stacked design CIS”. CIS is a type of image sensor that has its readout circuit and photodiode layers stacked on top of each other. This makes the sensor faster and more sensitive to light, which means that it can take better pictures in low-light conditions.

Stacked design CIS also offers better image quality overall. Because it can process data faster, stacked design CIS can take sharper and more detailed photos. It can also capture a wider range of brightness levels, which means that your photos will look more natural.

In addition to its improved low-light performance and image quality, stacked design CIS also offers other benefits, such as faster autofocus and better video stabilization. This decision means that Sony, who makes the CIS, will have to work really hard to keep up with the demand until 2025.

Asus says No to bootloader unlocking on Zenfone 10 and future phones

When the debate between Android and iOS heats up, the former side often highlights Android’s customizable features, including the ability of Android phones to unlock the bootloader. While most manufacturers still provide this functionality, Asus seems to have moved away from it. The company has reportedly disabled the bootloader on devices such as the Zenfone 9, Zenfone 10, and upcoming phones.

Asus’ tech team recently told a user that they can no longer unlock the bootloader on Zenfones, and this will not change in the future (Via Android Authority). The user was asking about unlocking the Zenfone 9. The Asus support email was very clear that unlocking will not be an option for both the Zenfone 9 and Zenfone 10.

This news may not please users who like to install custom ROMs and third-party apps. For those who don’t know, unlocking the bootloader is the process of removing the security restrictions that prevent you from modifying the software on your Android device. This allows you to install custom ROMs, root your device, and perform other advanced tasks.

There’s no official word yet on whether Asus is really cracking down on bootloader unlocking. Also, a Reddit user is saying that the company’s developer contact on their Telegram channel isn’t aware of any such situation. They mentioned that the unlock tool server is just undergoing maintenance and should be back in action in Q3.

It looks like there’s a bit of inconsistency in the responses from different support teams, which definitely makes you wonder. We’ll have to wait and see which information turns out to be accurate. Keep an eye out for updates.
