DxOMark has published its camera review of the Vivo X300 Pro, and the phone has landed near the very top of the rankings.

The X300 Pro currently sits in second place overall, just behind Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra. It ranks ahead of several high-profile flagships, including the Oppo Find X8 Ultra and Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro. This is Vivo’s best DxOMark result so far, improving on the X200 Ultra, which previously placed in the top five.

In terms of scores, the X300 Pro earns 171 points for photography. That’s slightly lower than the X200 Ultra’s photo score, meaning the older model still holds a small edge in still images. Video is where the newer phone makes a much bigger jump.

DxOMark gives the X300 Pro 169 points for video, placing it second in the video category overall and ahead of every Android phone tested so far. Only the iPhone 17 Pro scores higher for video, making Vivo’s latest flagship one of the strongest non-Apple options for filming.

According to the test, the phone performs particularly well in telephoto shots, zoom, bokeh, and low-light scenes. DxOMark also notes stable exposure, good dynamic range, mostly accurate white balance, and consistent skin tones in both photos and videos. Video stabilization is another area where the X300 Pro scores highly.

There are still some weaknesses. The review mentions contrast issues in certain HDR scenes, a relatively narrow ultra-wide camera, and occasional artifacts such as ghosting or color fringing. In low light, images can sometimes look over-processed, and darker skin tones may appear slightly brighter than intended.

Even with those limitations, the X300 Pro delivers a strong overall camera performance, with video standing out as its main strength. Vivo appears to be closing the gap with the very top camera phones as 2025 comes to an end.

This is due to the limited physical space required for the display’s connector ribbons and control unit.

The report also mentions that the same OLED panel could be used in the Galaxy S26 FE, which is expected to arrive sometime in 2026. What makes this interesting is the wider market context. Several Chinese brands now use flexible OLED displays even in sub-$250 phones, allowing for thinner and more uniform bezels. So to make sure that the 17 Ultra Leica Edition passes all these ingress tests, Xiaomi says it gave the zoom ring a little allowable movement both radially and axially. That means when you shake the ring or tap it, it might shift slightly or even make a small sound.

Xiaomi claims this behavior is normal and doesn’t affect the functionality of the zoom ring in any way. Not to forget, the phone still maintains its dust and water resistance ratings of IP66, IP68, and IP69.

Xiaomi also says the Master Zoom Ring went through multiple rounds of extreme tests, including drops, exposure to dust and water, high temperatures, high humidity, and continuous rotation. The goal was to ensure that even with the loose-feeling design, the mechanism remains durable and fully operational.

So, if you’re handling a 17 Ultra Leica Edition and the zoom ring jiggles a bit, it’s not a mistake or hardware defect; it’s just how Xiaomi engineered it.

The OxygenOS 16 rollout is progressing smoothly and, more importantly, according to schedule. In fact, several devices received the update ahead of the official timeline. So far, the Android 16-based software has been rolled out to almost all eligible flagship phones, as well as many mid-range phones.

Casio unveils Hokusai-themed new G-Shock smartwatches in Japan

Casio has launched two new Hokusai-themed G-Shock watches in Japan, continuing its collaboration with classic Japanese art. These new models follow the Hokusai editions released in 2025 and use the iconic G-Shock DW-5600 square design.

As usual, Casio has decorated the dial with artwork inspired by legendary ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai and his famous Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series.

The first model, DW-5600KHFM25-1JR, draws inspiration from Under the Mannen Bridge at Fukagawa. The watch shows a clean, front-facing view of the Mannen Bridge, flowing water beneath it, and Mount Fuji standing quietly in the distance.

The second model, DW-5600KHSH25-1JR, is based on White Rain Under the Mountains. This design captures a dramatic moment, showing lightning striking near the mountain while sudden white rain falls at its base.

Both watches feature an LED backlight that highlights the artwork when it’s switched on. In particular, it’s a Super Illuminator LED backlight with afterglow and sound-linked flash alerts. Casio has also engraved the kanji character for “Japan” on the case back, and both models are officially marked as made in Japan.

In terms of features, the watches offer everything G-Shock fans expect. They support shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, a digital quartz movement, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, a multi-alarm, and a full auto calendar.

Design-wise, both watches share the same dimensions. The resin case measures 48.9 × 42.8 mm with a thickness of 13.4 mm. Each watch weighs 53 grams, keeping them light and comfortable for daily wear. The resin band fits wrist sizes from 145 mm to 205 mm and uses a simple buckle clasp.

The battery lasts up to five years.

Pricing and Availability

Both the Casio G-Shock DW-5600KHS25-1 and DW-5600KHFM-1 are priced at ¥18,700 (~$119) in Japan. They are up for pre-order on the company’s official site. Shipping is expected to begin in January itself.

Samsung is testing 20,000mAh battery with 27 hours of screen on time, but longevity concerns arise

2025 has quietly become the year of absurdly large smartphone batteries. We’ve seen 7,000mAh and 8,000mAh packs becoming mainstream, and Honor even crossed the once-unthinkable 10,000mAh mark.

Nearly all of this progress is from Chinese phone makers who have moved to the use of silicon-carbon battery technology. Samsung and Apple, meanwhile, have been noticeably slower to embrace the shift.

But Samsung may not be content to sit out the big-battery arms race for long.

The big battery race

A tipster claims that Samsung’s SDI division is testing a massive 20,000mAh dual-cell battery for smartphones. And guess what? It’s reportedly based on silicon-carbon technology.

The claimed design uses two cells of unequal size. One cell reportedly packs 12,000mAh into a 6.3mm form factor, while the second measures 4mm thick and adds another 8,000mAh. Combined, the system reaches the headline-grabbing 20,000mAh figure.

What makes this especially interesting is that a single 12,000mAh cell would already surpass the 10,000mAh batteries found in phones like Honor’s Win series. In other words, Samsung may already be testing battery capacities that go beyond what’s currently considered “extreme.”

The tipster claims the full 20,000mAh setup could deliver up to 27 hours of screen-on time and survive roughly 960 charge cycles per year, at least on paper.

However, the battery suffers from longevity issues as it reportedly swelled during the testing. While short-term performance is said to be strong, long-term stability remains unresolved.

Another source adds that the 8,000mAh cell allegedly expanded from 4mm to 7.2mm in thickness after testing, which is a serious red flag for smartphone use.

As always, this information should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Honor Power 2 online listing shares complete spec sheet

Honor is set to launch the Power 2 smartphone with a mammoth 10,080mAh battery on January 5. Just days ahead of the launch, it has been listed on China Telecom’s page for certified devices, detailing its hardware specs. Let’s take a look at it.

Honor Power 2 Specifications

The Honor Power 2 is built around a 6.79-inch display with a centered punch-hole cutout for a selfie camera. The phone’s bottom edge houses a speaker grille, a SIM card slot, and a USB Type-C port.

Honor equips the Power 2 with a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. On the back, the phone carries a dual-camera setup that includes a 50MP primary sensor and a 5MP depth sensor.

Under the hood, the Honor Power 2 is powered by an MT6899 application processor. Honor has confirmed it is the all-new Dimensity 8500 Elite chip. A recent Geekbench listing revealed that it will offer better performance than the Dimensity 8400 chip from last year.

The device ships with Android 16-based MagicOS 10 and delivers a screen resolution of 2640 × 1200 pixels. Despite packing a huge battery, the phone maintains a slim profile, measuring 162.1 × 76.3 × 7.98mm and weighing approximately 216 grams.

China Telecom’s database lists the device under the model number “HONOR SER-AN00.” Honor seems to be offering the Power 2 in two storage configurations: 12GB RAM with 256GB storage and 12GB RAM with 512GB storage.

And there will be three color options to choose from—Phantom Black, Sunrise Orange, and Snow White. As is evident, the Power 2’s rear design is similar to the recent Apple iPhone 17 Pro series.

Honor has not yet revealed the official pricing, but more details are expected to arrive at launch.

TCL launches Note A1 NxtPaper digital notepad with 11.5-inch 120Hz display and AI tools

TCL has officially launched the Note A1 NxtPaper, a digital note-taking device that combines the company’s latest paper-like display technology with AI-powered productivity features. Positioned to rival devices such as the Kindle Scribe, the tablet is now available for pre-order through Kickstarter at an early-bird price of $419. TCL plans to sell the device for $549 when it officially goes on sale at the end of February.

The Note A1 NxtPaper supports the T-Pen Pro stylus, which features dual tips, a built-in eraser, and 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity. TCL claims the stylus delivers under 5ms latency. The tablet supports various document formats and provides handwriting-to-text conversion, formula recognition, and handwriting beautification.

TCL has integrated multiple AI features, including real-time transcription, instant translation, and automatic summarization. The company includes a dedicated ‘Inspiration Space’ to help users organize ideas and notes more effectively. The tablet also supports wireless screen casting, split-screen multitasking, and file transfer through LAN, USB, or cloud services like Dropbox and Google Drive.

The Note A1 NxtPaper weighs 500 grams and has a thickness of 5.5mm. TCL uses an aerospace-grade aluminum body to maintain a slim and durable form factor.

LG UltraGear 27GX790B: 720Hz OLED Gaming Monitor Arrives in US & Canada

LG has brought its UltraGear 27GX790B-B to North America following its China debut. The 27-inch gaming monitor uses LG Display’s 4th Gen Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel.

The monitor’s headline feature is a 720Hz refresh rate. The 720Hz mode requires dropping resolution to 720p. At native 1440p, the refresh rate drops to 540Hz, which is still among the fastest available commercially.

LG equips the 27GX790B with a Primary RGB Tandem WOLED panel designed for competitive gaming, particularly first-person shooters like Counter-Strike 2. Response time measures 0.02ms. The panel delivers 335 nits peak brightness in SDR mode and 1500 nits in HDR, carrying DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. Color coverage reaches 99.5 percent of the DCI-P3 gamut.

The display includes an adjustable stand with RGB lighting on the back panel. Ports include HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, one USB-C, two USB-A, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

While manufacturers develop prototype displays targeting 1,000Hz refresh rates, current top-tier gaming monitors max out around 540Hz at higher resolutions. The 27GX790B’s dual-mode approach lets users choose between maximum refresh rate and resolution based on their priorities.

The monitor targets esports players who prioritize frame delivery over resolution. The 720p mode’s 720Hz refresh reduces input lag to under 1.4ms per frame, while 1440p at 540Hz maintains 1.85ms frame time. These specifications matter most in competitive scenarios where millisecond differences affect performance.

LG has listed the UltraGear 27GX790B-B at $999.99 on Amazon for US customers. Canadian buyers can preorder the monitor for CA$1,299.99, with deliveries starting January 15, 2026.

Poco will officially unveil the M8 and M8 Pro on January 8, but a Russian retailer (wildberries) has prematurely revealed pricing details for both devices (spotted by YTECHB).

The Poco M8 with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage lists at RUB 26,817 (approximately $340/INR 30,500), while the 512GB variant costs RUB 31,167 ($396/INR 35,500).

The M8 Pro comes with a higher price tag: RUB 36,242 ($460/INR 41,300) for 8GB RAM/256GB storage, and RUB 38,793 ($492/INR 44,200) for 12GB RAM/512GB storage. These figures don’t account for varying international taxes and may differ in other markets.

Poco M8 Specifications

As per the listings, the standard M8 features a 6.77-inch 120Hz curved AMOLED display powered by Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and Android 15-based HyperOS 2. Camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor, 2MP depth sensor, and 20MP front camera. The device packs a 5,520mAh battery supporting 45W fast charging.

Poco M8 Pro Specifications

The Pro model upgrades to a larger 6.83-inch quad-curved AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It runs on Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 with HyperOS 2.

Camera improvements include a 50MP main sensor paired with an 8MP ultra-wide lens and 32MP selfie camera. The standout feature is a massive 6,500mAh battery with 100W fast charging. Physical dimensions measure 162.5 x 74.7 x 7.9mm, weighing 207 grams.

OPPO F29 Pro 5G Finally Gets Android 16 x ColorOS 16 Update

OPPO has started rolling out ColorOS 16 based on Android 16 to F29 Pro 5G users in India, with other regions set to follow later. The official version went live on December 30 for devices running CPH2705_16.0.2.401(EX01). While the brand has not provided an exact changelog, we have mentioned all the major new features of ColorOS 16 below.

ColorOS 16 features

ColorOS 16 introduces several AI based features. AI Mind Space allows users to record 60 second voice notes by long pressing the Snap Key. The AI Recorder Assistant generates titles and summaries for recordings and reduces background noise, making it useful for lectures, meetings, and interviews.

The update also adds new cross device features. When an iPhone is connected via Bluetooth, calls, messages, and app notifications can be viewed on the OPPO phone through the OPPO Dialer. Performance related changes include the Trinity Engine, which helps maintain stable frame rates during multitasking and gaming, and the Luminous Rendering Engine, which makes system animations smoother.

Camera and editing updates include AI Portrait Glow, Motion Photo Collage, slow motion editing tools, and a built in video editor. Visual changes include Flux Themes, additional home screen options, broader Aqua Dynamics support, and the Luminous Design applied across the system.
