Motorola’s Edge series is quite popular among consumers. The company recently unveiled the latest Moto Edge (2022), which bagged the title of being the first smartphone powered by the Dimensity 1050 SoC. Now, it seems Motorola is gearing up to bring new Edge series smartphones into the wild on September 8.
Motorola recently posted a short video teaser on its official Twitter handle which hints at the launch of three new Edge series smartphones. The company posted the teaser with the caption “Find yourself closer to the edge…September 8”. This confirms that new Motorola phones are definitely arriving on September 8. However, the teaser didn’t give us the names or any other details of the upcoming smartphones.
Motorola may bring the newly launched Moto X30 Pro and Moto S30 Pro to the global market as rebranded Edge series smartphones. In fact, there are already rumors that S30 Pro will debut in the global market as Moto Edge 30 fusion.
To recall, Moto X30 Pro has a 6.73-inch pOLED curved display and offers a 144Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it is equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Its main highlight is the camera setup. The device features a Samsung ISOCELL HP1 200-megapixel camera, which is accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto shooter.
Motorola X30 Pro
Moto S30 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a 6.55-inch centered punch-hole 10-bit curved OLED display with FHD+ resolution and up to 144Hz refresh rate. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. It has a triple camera system on the rear consisting of a 50MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP depth sensor.
At the OnePlus 10T launch event last week, OxygenOS 13 was formally launched. The OnePlus 10 Pro, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro beta testing of the Android 13-based software began not long after. The company has now announced that it is looking for OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R OxygenOS 13 Closed Beta testers.

OnePlus announced through a community post that OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R eager to check out the upcoming Android 12 based OxygenOS 13 can now apply to be a part of the beta testing team. As usual with beta testing, the company expects the testers provide regular feedback and suggestions to improve the software experience.
The company says that it will recruit 200 people who meet the requirements with a OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R India device to join this Closed Beta Program.
Please keep in mind that the closed beta is not the OxygenOS 13 stable version and that it may have bugs and security risks that could impair the device’s functionality.

Vivo has launched a new budget smartphone in China. The device in question is called the Vivo Y02s and it comes with some decent specs. It has features like a 5000mAh battery, MediaTek Helio P35 Processor, 6.51-inch display, and more. The device features a single camera on the back, however, its design suggests otherwise. The Vivo Y02s is priced at 906 Yuan (roughly $132/ Rs. 10,622) for the sole 3GB RAM 32GB storage variant. The device is offered in two color options- Sapphire Blue and Shine Black. The device is currently up for sale in Taiwan. We are not sure if it will debut in the international market.

According to an official tweet by the company, the Vivo V25 5G will launch in Thailand on August 25. The tweet mentions that the device will be available in Aquamarine Blue, Sunrise Gold, and Diamond Black colors.

According to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) worldwide quarterly personal computing device tracker, PC shipments in India registered solid growth in the second quarter of this year i.e. the period from April to June. The personal computer market includes desktops, notebooks, and workstations. OEMs shipped over 3.7 million units compared to 3.1 million units with a year-on-year growth of 17.8 percent during the same period last year. India’s PC market results are positive at a time when the global PC shipments shrank to the lowest in Q2 since 2013.
IDC reports that the government segment was strong due to the spillover orders from the previous quarter but the other segments slowed down. Notebooks led the PC market with 2.6 million units but their growth rate reduced to 7.3 percent YoY basis. The desktop category continued its strong run and sold over a million units for the second consecutive quarter.
Coming to the brand statistics in India’s PC market, HP led the segment with a 30 percent share and 1.15 million units sold in Q2, 2022. It grew 8.1 percent year-on-year basis. Dell came second behind HP with 807 million shipments, a 21.6 percent market share and 15.2 percent YoY increase. Lenovo bagged the third spot with a 19.6 percent share and a 30 percent year-on-year growth. Acer is ranked fourth after shipping 330 million units and having an 8.9 percent market share. ASUS completed the list of top five with 230 million shipments and registered a whopping 53 percent year-on-year growth.

OPPO Band 2 could be making its debut in the global market soon. The details are yet to be officially announced by the company, but the fitness band has been spotted on the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) certification site, hinting that its global launch might be around the corner. OPPO Band 2 has already been unveiled in China. It has a 1.57-inch AMOLED display and offers various health monitoring features.
Popular tipster Mukul Sharma has spotted the OPPO Band 2 on the IMDA website with model number OBBE215. As usual, the listing did not reveal any details about the smart band. However, it hints at an imminent launch.
The OPPO Band 2 was unveiled in China last week, alongside OPPO Watch 3 series, with a price tag of 249 Yuan (roughly $36) for the standard edition. The NFC variant costs 299 Yuan (roughly $44). It comes in Black and White color options.

For connectivity, it has Bluetooth v5.0.
Oppo has also pre-installed over 200 watch faces, and 100 sports modes and has also included an NFC chip in the Band 2 for contactless payments.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S8 series back in 2017 and announced last year that it is ending security update support for the S8 models. However, Samsung has now released a firmware update with a few bug fixes for the Galaxy S8. This is coming more than five years after the release of the models and over one year after the models last received a software update. The new firmware update has the changelog G95*FXXUCDVG4 which relates to GPS stability improvement.
It is unclear whether the GPS stability issue is the only improvement available in the firmware. It has a download size of 420MB and there could be a few other minor fixes as well. It should be noted though that this is not an OS upgrade for the Galaxy S8. It is still running on Android 9 with the April 1, 2021 security patch. It is unclear why Samsung still extended software support to the Galaxy S8 but it is all the same, a pleasant surprise for owners of the device.
The same GPS issue could also apply to several older Samsung phones. The same firmware was sent to Galaxy J7 (from 2015) owners in Asia, while several others should also get a firmware update. These include the Galaxy S6, S7, and S9 from 2015, 2016, and 2018 respectively. All the stated models have already officially exited software support from Samsung. Samsung recently announced up to 5 years of support for its flagships from 2021 with up to 4 OS updates.
Baseus is making further inroads into the Chinese audio accessories market with the launch of the Bowie EX. This is coming just one month after the Bowie H1 noise canceling headphones with up to 70 hours of battery life were launched in China. The Bowie EX has a ring-iron dual unit design and boasts 30 hours of use on a single charge.
The Bowie EX has a large and small double ring architecture and utilizes the cavity space to enhance the sound and reduce distortion. Panoramic sound technology is featured in the Bowie EX. The technology was jointly developed by Baseus and WANOS and it integrates sound objects and spatial audio for greater sound quality. The earphones can be connected via Bluetooth to an input source and the user can switch to the panoramic sound effects mode. This can be either via the app or a button on the earphones. The panoramic mode helps to improve the immersive sound on offer.
Noise reduction for the Bowie EX is achieved through four microphones that accurately pick human voices. This is further accentuated by the windproof design and enhanced anti-noise capability. The new Baseus TWS headset has a battery life of up to 30 hours with its charging case. The device can be charged rapidly as a 10-minute charge delivers up to 2 hours of playback. The device can be fully charged in two hours. It is compatible with Bluetooth 5.3 for better stability and reduced latency. The earphones also support smart dual connection and in-ear sensing. The earphones pause and resume playback automatically upon ear removal and contact.
The Baseus Bowie EX TWS earbuds will retail for 329 yuan (~$48) but are currently offered at a launch price of 279 yuan (~$41). The product can be purchased online from JD.com. There are no details on the duration of the introductory price before the product reverts to its original price.

Design
Both these phones have good designs, but I personally prefer the Vivo V25 Pro. It may be just a personal taste, but it looks like this device offers something more. First of all, it has a rear side able to change color if exposed to direct sunlight, thanks to an electrochromic layer. Further, it comes with a higher screen to body ratio, thanks to narrower bezels around the display. The camera module is not among the most beautiful ones, but the above-mentioned elements make me prefer the Vivo. However, you should note that the OnePlus Nord 2T is still a great phone in terms of design and build quality. It looks minimal and it is thinner than its rival. Further, it comes with Gorilla Glass 5 protection by Corning for the display making it scratch resistant. Unfortunately, these phones are made of polycarbonate and they do not come with the most premium materials.
Display
The displays of these two panels are very similar. The Vivo V25 Pro has a panel with a diagonal of 6.56 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2376 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, and a peak brightness of up to 1,300 nits, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader. The OnePlus Nord 2T has an AMOLED display just like its Vivo opponent, but with a smaller 6.43-inch diagonal. It comes with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 90 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. As you probably noticed, the Vivo has a higher refresh rate and a wider display diagonal. Both the phones are equipped with stereo speakers, so the audio experience provided is not bad. Note that the OnePlus has thicker bezels around the display, that is the reason why it is not more compact than the V25 even though it has a smaller panel.
Specs & Software
The processor powering these two devices is the same: a Dimensity 1300 mobile platform by MediaTek. It is a processor built with a 6 nm production process and with an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex A78 CPU running at a max frequency of 3 GHz, three Cortex A78 CPUs running at 2.6 GHz, four Cortex A55 cores running at 2 GHz, and a Mali G77 MC9 GPU. On both the phones, the chipset is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage, with no expandable storage. There is a dual SIM slot, as well as Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and NFC. On the hardware side, it is essentially a draw. These phones run Android 12 out of the box, but with different customized user interfaces on top: OxygenOS and Funtouch OS, respectively. Which one do you prefer?
Camera
The OnePlus Nord 2T looks more convincing when it comes to the rear cameras because it has a better main sensor: a 50 MP Sony IMX766 lens with OIS, while the Vivo V25 Pro has a 64 MP camera with OIS. The secondary sensors are not the same as the Vivo features a 12 MP ultrawide camera while the Nord has an 8 MP sensor. The Vivo has a superior front camera: its 32 MP snapper is able to record 4K videos, while the 32 MP sensor of the Nord only records 1080p videos at 30 fps.
Now, the batteries. The one found on the Vivo V25 Pro is bigger and, given that the processor is the same, this handset will provide longer battery life in most of the possible scenarios. Smartphone shipments are declining worldwide and the condition is no different in Thailand. The country’s smartphone shipments fell 17% YoY in Q2 2022 due to volatility in the macroeconomic situation, according to a report. Thailand is having reduced consumer demand over the last two quarters. But it’s not all bad news, the country saw a huge rise in premium smartphone shipments.
According to a report by Counterpoint Research, Smartphone shipments have continued to decline in Thailand. In Q2 2022, the country witnessed a 17% decline in overall smartphone shipments. The culprit behind the downfall is said to be the deteriorating economic conditions in the country. The inflation rate rose to 7.66% in June, which is the highest in 14 years.
However, premium smartphone (>$400) shipments are booming in the country. There has been a 22% increase YoY in Q2 2022 despite the overall market decline.
Discussing the factors that affected the shipments in Q2 2022, Senior Analyst Glen Cardoza said, “Thailand has a decent share of consumers who can maintain a good financial standing during this economic slowdown. It is this type of consumer who looks to purchase at least a mid-tier smartphone even in such an economic scenario. With food and related categories being hit the hardest by inflation, consumers who would consider buying a low-tier smartphone are not taking that decision right now. This has resulted in a 23% YoY drop in shipments for smartphones priced less than $250.”
With each new launch in the category, premium models from brands such as Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, and Realme saw an increase in demand. Lenovo, yesterday, launched the Legion Y70 and the Xiaoxin Pad Pro in China. The company also unveiled a gold gel cooling phone case. The accessory is made from 12,000 sq. mm heat dissipating material and will substantially cool the mobile phone. It is capable of reducing the surface temperature by up to 3.6 degrees Celsius.
The new Lenovo Legion mobile phone case has been thickened on its four sides and has optimized openings in multiple places for optimal heat management. The Lenovo suitcase is made from PC+ABS material that is lightweight and durable. The suitcase weighs 3.5kg and has flexible loading space. On the whole, the new Lenovo 20-inch suitcase comes as a lightweight, durable, and expansive suitcase. Its launch price was 289 yuan (~$42) for the black gold color variant. The original price of the suitcase is 299 yuan (~$44).

After 3 years of settling down, recently Motorola brings the third generation of the series, which is the Motorola Razr 2022. So today let’s unbox the incredible foldable phone and talk about our first impressions of it.
I kind of like the premium box here. Obviously, Motorola designed the solid packaging to correspond to the phone’s form, focusing on minimalism with a flip cover. Open it and now we can see the latest Razr here. The unfolded phone holding in my hand feels just like a regular phone with a slightly large display. Even after seeing and experiencing quite a few foldable models, I don’t want to gloss over that the Razr 2022 is still incredibly compact. The Razr series still evokes the nostalgia of the age of flip phones, and the Razr, which has survived the changes in the mobile phone industry, is certainly the best vehicle for this.

First impression
Like the Galaxy Flip series, the new Razr still adheres to the vertical folding form. But the Razr doesn’t maintain the classic look and feel of its predecessor with a jutting chin at the bottom covering the upper part. When closed, it looks familiar with the latest Samsung flip models.
But I must stress that this isn’t a disappointing change, since more internal space of the phone will be freed up. For example, Motorola upgrades the camera module to a dual-lens setup, with better sensors; the battery is also upgraded to a larger capacity of 3500mAh.
Inner foldable 6.7″ display
On the front face, you can have a bigger 6.7-inch foldable display with narrower edges. It’s interesting that the top and bottom edges of the display were presented in a curved design, which gives it a more visually pleasing fit to the phone’s appearance.
What’s surprising is that the Oled display supports up to 144Hz rate, which was never seen on other foldable models. But in display settings, there’s only an auto mode and another 60Hz mode for options. The auto mode could optimize the refresh rate up to 120Hz but not the maximum 144Hz. The 144Hz mode seems to be only available in specific games.
But I have to say that the operation system, MyUI, is pretty smooth and responsive. The whole experience is so close to the original Android 12. It has a more comfortable animation and a simpler interface than most customized OS based on Android, which I think is great for global users that hates learning again about software of a new phone.
Quick View outer 2.7″ screen
Apart from the full-sized display, the smaller 2.7-inch interactive Quick View display also got reserved on the new model. No doubt it’s the most useful sub-screen among all the compact folding phones. It can do a lot more than you think. In addition to displaying a customizable clock, making phone calls, and showing notifications, you can turn it into a fully functional second display for supported apps.

For example, you can watch YouTube videos on the small display, listen to music on Spotify, navigate on google maps, etc.. Or even you can play most games on the Quick View display. But I don’t really recommend playing games that require complex operations on this small screen, such as PUBG or Genshin Impact, because it’s too small for users to put clumsy fingers touching the right positions of all the buttons. However, in games like Subway Surf, the small screen is incredibly suitable, no matter for easy holding or power saving.
Another great experience of the small screen is taking selfies with the dual cameras down below it. Motorola redesigned the interface of the camera UI for the outer display to make sure it well fits the compact size. You can access almost all the camera features here without opening the phone.
But there’re still some apps that can be shown here but have a terrible experience, such as TikTok. There’s no room for showing contents beyond displaying the bars at the top and bottom. Since the display doesn’t support rotation, you might give up using certain apps on it.
Hinge
The hinge felt pretty smooth when I opened or closed it. except for the faint hiss of the screen movement, it’s solid without generating annoying noise no matter for folding or unfolding. Under the folded form, it closes almost completely with no visible gap. When unfolded, it’s quite surprising that the new hinge has pretty good crease control. But it might be more visible after frequent folding movements.
By the way, there’s an annoying detail you should know about closing. When I quickly close it, the folding part of the flexible screen sometimes popped outwards a bit but then quickly returns to the folded position. I’m sure it’s not a big deal, but it still made me scared the first time it happened if it would do any damage to the screen. But as it turned out, nothing happened.
Performance & Cameras
The new Razr is powered by the most powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 8+. So there’s nothing to worry about the performance. But it’s not a good option for long gaming, since it only features a 3500mAh battery. But it can still last for a full day of daily use, which is much better than the previous Razr.
As for cameras, we took a few photos here. The module includes a 50MP main camera, a 13MP wide-angle lens, and another 32MP front camera. The improvement compared to the previous Razr is huge. Especially for night shooting, the overall brightness is dramatically boosted. Even under extremely low lighting, the capture is much better than I expected. As for daytime, it remains a solid performer with good detail.

Pricing
Other features like 33W fast charging, a side fingerprint reader, and stereo speakers also got upgraded with a better experience. And the pricing is probably the most surprising thing about the new Razr. This first compact foldable model powered by the 8+ chip officially starts from about 885 USD. But unfortunately, it goes exclusive to China by far. You can only get it at a few third-party retailers that are able to deliver to your place.

There was a raft of product announcements by Lenovo yesterday (August 18). The highlight of the product releases was the Legion Y70, the Xiaoxin Pad Pro, and a cold gel cooling phone case. The Lenovo Legion gamepad for mobile gaming is also part of the lineup of products released. The gamepad boasts up to 6 hours of battery life, as well as other decent features.
The Legion gamepad has a light and small game handle, weighing just 40g. Its shell is made from a two-material injection molding process, with transparent edges not blocking the screen. A silicone shell on the back adds to the comfort of the gamepad with a more sturdy grip.
The new gamepad has a 150mAh battery which has up to 6 hours of activity. The gamepad has a type-C interface for recharging the pad. The gamepad has both a joystick and normal gaming capabilities. The buttons (shoulder and back buttons) and joystick are available for an assortment of games. It offers seamless operation and an immersive gaming experience. The pad supports a one-key connection of ZUI devices via Bluetooth. The switch has an indicator ring that provides real-time information on the status of the gamepad.
The Lenovo Legion gamepad has a launch price of 79 yuan ($12). However, its original price is 99 yuan ($15).

The Vivo V25 has been confirmed to launch in Indonesia on August 25. The device will be accompanied by Vivo V25 Pro, which went official in India a few days back.

The Infinix Note 12 Pro is tipped to launch in India on August 26. It will be the first smartphone powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 SoC in the country.
The phone is said to arrive with a 6.7-inch FHD+ 60Hz AMOLED display, 108MP main camera, 16MP front-facing camera, Android 12, 5,000mAh battery, and 33W fast wired charging.
The device is expected to come in Alpine White, Tuscany Blue, and Volcanic Grey color options. It will likely retail below ₹15,000 in the region.
