The latest version of ColorOS is almost here. Oppo along with OnePlus has been running the closed beta program for ColorOS 13 since July. Oppo even announced the public testing of the software on Oppo Find X5, Oppo Find X5 Pro, and Oppo Find N. And today, OnePlus has also opened the ColorOS 13 beta to a wider audience.
OnePlus 10 Pro users in China can finally get a taste of ColorOS 13 as the company started the open beta program for the software. As usual, the recruitment quota for this public beta is limited because the software is still in the development stage, and the system stability has certain potential risks. Moreover, some features in the OS are still being verified and need further optimization.
OnePlus 10 Pro
As per the announcement post, the registration for the open beta program will close tomorrow (August 4) and the applicants will be selected within 5 working days. After selection, they will receive the ColorOS 13 Open Beta update based on Android 13 via OTA.
For those who don’t know, OnePlus uses Oppo’s ColorOS software for its phone in China. Globally, the brand uses OxygenOS which is nothing but ColorOS with a different name and a few tweaks. OxygenOS 13 has also been unveiled recently and it comes with plenty of changes, you can read more about it here.
Now that the open beta program has been started for ColorOS 13, we can expect the OS to make a debut soon. A tipster claims that Oppo will roll out the latest version of its software in the first half of August.
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has announced that it will start selling its EVs in Sweden and Germany in October 2022. Presently, Norway is the only country in Europe where BYD currently sells passenger cars with the Tang electric SUV the only product on offer there. Models based on the automaker’s e-platform 3.0 and powered by BYD Blade Batteries with LFP chemistry and a cell-to-pack technology are likely to be added to the portfolio in Germany and Sweden.
With the announcement that it will begin selling its plug-in passenger cars in Germany and Sweden starting in the fourth quarter of this year, Chinese automaker BYD Auto continues its rapid international development.
In order to distribute and market its passenger cars in Sweden and Germany, BYD has appointed the European dealer group Hedin Mobility Group. This follows the market launches of its vehicles in Australia in February, Japan last month, and the Netherlands in September.
The company has been granted official distribution, sales, and after-sales services for BYD vehicles in both countries as a result of receiving “Dealer+” status from BYD. In addition to opening its first of many German locations in October, Hedin will also launch stores in Sweden and Germany beginning with Stockholm. Later this month, BYD will introduce client websites for each market; details on the models on offer will follow in September.
The actual sales will begin in October 2022, with the first deliveries for early adopters in Germany and Sweden planned for Q4 2022.
Hedin Mobility Group is one of the biggest privately held dealership groups in Europe with over 230 stores in eight nations, including Germany. The company has a major dealership presence in Scandinavia. In 2021, the company sold more than 125,000 cars.
Yesterday, Oppo started recruiting Open Beta testers for ColorOS 13 based on Android 13. Now, a day later, the company’s sister brand Realme has also opened registrations for a similar beta program for one of its devices.
In official announcement posts on Relame Community, Realme says that it has begun to recruit Android 13 Early Access testers for the Realme GT 2 Pro in China and India.
For the unaware, Relame’s ‘Early Access’ program is merely a fancy name for the ‘Closed Beta’ initiative carried out by Oppo and OnePlus. Hence, software builds released for these testers are buggy in nature and may not be suitable to use on a daily driver smartphone.
Hence, enroll in the program only if you are used to unstable software. The brand has only allocated limited seats for both regions. Unfortunately, it does not mention the exact number.
Selected applicants will get the Android 13 beta update via OTA. Testers who are not satisfied with the experience of the beta software can roll back to the stable channel. However, this process will wipe the device’s internal storage and the unit cannot be enrolled again in the beta channel.
Realme is yet to officially announce its Android 13 software, which will be likely called Realme UI 4.0 and will be based on Oppo’s ColorOS 13. Whereas, another clone of Oppo’s software dubbed OxygenOS 13 was unveiled yesterday by OnePlus along with supported smartphones.
Yesterday, OnePlus launched the OnePlus 10T in the global markets. It comes bundled with a silicone case in the box. Additionally, the brand also announced two new cases for the latest smartphone. One is the Glacier Mat Case which is the first for any OnePlus phone whereas the other is a Sandstone Bumper Case. Let’s take a look at both accessories below.
The OnePlus 10T Glacier Mat Case features a heat dissipation material that makes up 36 percent of the case, evaporating to eliminate heat when the phone becomes hot. It automatically rehydrates from the air when the phone cools down. The brand also says that the case is 5G compatible and won’t affect the network signals while streaming videos or playing games.
As for the OnePlus 10T Sandstone Bumper Case, it has been spray painted with four layers of fine-ground sandstone for a strong and comfortable grip. It is an ideal fit for the gaming experience without getting in the user’s way. The case offers powerful protection and anti-shock features and is also drop resistance up to 1 metre.
Alongside the cases, OnePlus also announced a 3D Tempered Glass offering edge-to-edge protection thanks to the advanced CNC machining. The glass features 9H hardness and an anti-scratch surface. It also comes with an AF coating that keeps the device smudge free.
The OnePlus 10T Glacier Mat Case is priced at Rs 1,499 whereas the Sandstone Bumper Case costs Rs 799. The tempered glass screen protector is available for Rs 999. All three accessories are available for purchase from the brand’s official website.
After the launch of the Nothing Phone (1), rumors have surfaced about a device dubbed the Nothing Phone (1) Lite being in development. This device is said to lack some of the highlight features present in the Nothing Phone (1) like the Glyph interface LED lights, and wireless charging.
However, Nothing CEO and Co-founder, Carl Pei, has outright denied these claims, stating that it’s “Fake news”. Pei said this in a tweet replying to an article shared by Android Police which talks about the alleged Nothing Phone (1) Lite in detail.
The Nothing CEO did not clarify if his comment refers to the existence of the phone itself or if it is targeted at the rumors that the Nothing Phone (1) Lite will lack the Glyph interface and wireless charging. For now, it would be safe to assume that the company is not working on a watered-down version of its debut smartphone. The company is currently having a hard time with the quality control aspect of the Nothing Phone (1), with customers complaining about design flaws, hardware issues, and quality issues like getting dust under the glass back.
Relatedly, a different rumor has emerged suggesting that the company is working on two new wireless earphones, which will succeed the original Ear (1) model. According to a tipster, the upcoming earphones will include the Nothing Ear (1) Stick, and another pair of earbuds which could be called the Nothing Ear (2).

For those unaware, the tipster was also the one who leaked the Ear (1) Stick model previously. This model will reportedly launch in Europe soon and will have a price tag of around 99 EUR. The information was based on a leaked Amazon listing. Furthermore, the Stick version will not have replaceable rubber tips and would likely feature a semi in ear style design. Starting August 3, the OnePlus 10 Pro will be $100 cheaper in North America alone. In a statement to the media, OnePlus stated that the price decrease was made to be more competitive in the market, but that the price of its flagship phone will not change globally.

It costs $100 less than the Pixel 6 Pro and has a starting price that is equal to the Galaxy S22, a device that OnePlus outperforms in terms of screen and battery capacity.

Earlier today (4th August 2022), Nubia has just announced a new limited edition smartphone from its Red Magic 7S series of flagship smartphones. The new model is dubbed the Red Magic 7S Pro Bumblebee Special Edition, which features a design inspired by the iconic Transformer character.
As the name suggests, the latest special edition of the smartphone features a design inspired by the Transformers series character, Bumblebee. In other words, it sports a primarily yellow color design with black racing decals. Apart from this, there are also other details that are inspired by Transformers series. A notable example is the inclusion of the Autobots (a faction in the series) logo.
While the external design is quite unique, there have also been changes made to the UI aspect of the smartphone. The Red Magic 7S Pro Bumblebee Special Edition arrives with a new theme to better match the aesthetic. Furthermore, it also comes with a new packaging box that includes an Autobot protective cover, an attachable external fan for better cooling, as well as some other accessories as well. Despite featuring various changes to the external and software aspects of the smartphone, the handset is still a regular Red Magic 7S Pro under the hood.

Huawei isn’t able to make 5G smartphones because of the sanctions imposed by the United States. Because of this, the company comes out with a couple of unique ideas to be able to launch smartphones with 5G support.
In the latest development, TD Tech M40 5G High-End Version has been launched in China. As the name indicates, the phone is a rebranded version of the Huawei Mate 40 smartphone and an upgraded version of the standard model launched earlier this year.
It will go on sale from 11th August, with a starting price of 3,599 yuan. As for the pricing, the base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB model is priced at 3,599 yuan (~$533) while the model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage costs 3,999 yuan (~$592).
The TD Tech M40 5G High-End Version features a 6.5-inch OLED curved screen, offering a 90Hz refresh rate which is a upgrade compared to the regular version that was launched a few months ago. It is also rated for IP53 dust and water resistance to keep your phone safe from the light drizzle in the rain.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 Plus SoC, which is a major upgrade compared to the outdated Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 9000, which the Chinese company is basically forced to use on its devices because of US sanctions.
In the camera department, there’s a triple-camera setup on the back panel that includes a 64-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. On the front side, there’s a 13-megapixel wide-angle snapper for taking selfies and video calling.
As for the software, the phone runs the HarmonyOS based on the Android operating system. It is powered by a 4,200mAh battery and comes with 40W fast charging through the USB Type-C port and 40W wireless charging.
The foldable form factor has finally matured, with plenty of mainstream brands releasing their own versions in recent months. Companies like Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, Motorola, and even Huawei have released multiple foldables over the past couple of years, increasing the number of options consumers have in this niche segment. And as years pass by and the technology gets better, we can expect even mid-range and low-end brands to get into this particular segment.
If you are looking for a foldable smartphone in 2022, there are plenty of options to choose from, especially if you live in China. However, even international consumers have a variety of options, in a couple of form factors like a vertical or a horizontal folding design.
So let’s take a look at some of the Best Foldable Smartphones of 2022.
Galaxy Z Fold3
Samsung has been the pioneer of foldables ever since the form factor first made its entry into the market. The Z Fold3 is the third generation foldable device from the company, and we can finally say that there’s a near-perfect foldable in the market. It improves the built and hinge quality and even comes with water resistance, assuring the stability of its design. What’s more, you can even add in a stylus (which has to be bought separately), making full use of its 7-inch+ unfolded screen.
The cover display also gets bumped up with a high-resolution panel and a 120Hz refresh rate, while the main display inside gets a dynamic AMOLED panel and a class-leading under-display camera.
Clearly, the Galaxy Z Fold3 is the pinnacle of foldable technology in 2022, and starting at $200 less than its predecessor, it’s a phone worthy of recommendation, i.e. if it’s within your budget.
Fret not if the Galaxy Z Fold3 is not within your budget. Last year’s Z Fold 2 is a competitive device for its current price, and 2021’s best foldable is still worth buying in 2022.
The phone features a similar form factor as the Z Fold3, a 7.6-inch internal display, and a 6.2-inch cover screen (albeit with lower resolution). While the phone is heavier and bulkier than its successor, it still features most of the features of the new device, especially after the recent software updates. So, if you want a foldable that’s slightly cheaper than the Z Fold3, this would be your best bet for multitasking and productivity tasks.
However, if you can extend your budget by a couple of hundred dollars, we would still recommend the Z Fold3, as it’s the best horizontal folding device in the market right now.
Flip phones have made a comeback, in the form of vertical folding smartphones. So there’s no surprise that a lot of consumers have a preference for this clamshell design over the regular horizontal folding devices.
The third generation Galaxy Z Flip3 is the best vertical folding device that you can get in the market right now. The upgrades from last year’s model like a larger 1.9-inch cover display and IPX8 certification (much like the Z Fold3) make it a significantly better device than its predecessors. On the inside, you get a 6.7-inch AMOLED 120Hz panel with a Snapdragon 888 chip and 8GB of RAM. And considering the discounted starting price of the device, we can easily recommend the Z Flip3 to those who are looking for a compact and relatively cheaper foldable in the market.
Note that, like all other clamshell foldables, battery life is still one of its weakest departments. The charging speed isn’t great either at 15W wired charging, but you do get 10W wireless charging support.
The Huawei Mate XS may have seen a limited international release, but the phone is an excellent foldable if you can live without Google apps.
The phone continues on its outward folding design, bringing a single large 8-inch screen that folds out to make for a 6.6-inch cover display. Yes, this design is pretty unique and a different approach from the Samsung foldable. With a Kirin 990 chip, 8GB RAM, 512GB storage and 40MP led quad-cameras taking care of the specs department, the Huawei Mate XS is a pretty powerful foldable, despite launching a couple of years ago.
If not for the lack of Google App support, the Mate XS would have received a much more widespread release. That said, the phone is still pretty hard to get. So, despite being a pretty good foldable, you’ll most likely have to opt for a device from another brand.
Motorola brought back the Razr series to life with the Razr foldable lineup a couple of years back. And the company’s last Razr clamshell foldable, the Razr 2020 is still a decent device in 2022. The company builds on the clamshell form factor with a larger 2.7-inch external display that’s bigger than its Samsung rival with an internal 6.2-inch panel. It’s powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 765G processor with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There is one 48MP shooter with OIS on the back and a 20MP selfie shooter.
Like other clamshell foldables, the battery is again one of its drawbacks. However, with the occasional discounts, the phone can be purchased for under $1000, which would make it a decent alternative to the Galaxy Z Flip3.
The Royole FlexPai stole the thunder from the big brands back in 2018 when it announced the first foldable smartphone. A lot of us were surprised to hear a small-time brand making the big headlines, but honestly, the first generation was far from perfect. Luckily, the company’s second generation model, the FlexPai 2, improves on all the aspects of the initial generation and is better suited for daily use. The company follows Huawei’s approach in using an outward folding design and comes with productivity features like split screen viewing on its large 7.8-inch display.
With a better build quality and design than the initial generation, the Royole FlexPai 2 can be an alternative to the big brands if you live in China.
Textured design on the Cloud Brocade White Huawei P-50 Pocket
Huawei’s Galaxy Z Flip3 rival, the Huawei P50 Pocket saw a wider international release than its predecessors. The device comes with a form factor similar to the Z Flip3, featuring a premium design, an excellent camera setup, and a no-crease 6.9-inch OLED display on the inside. The design especially is the stand-out feature of the device and is even considered by some, to be better than its Galaxy rival. Notably, it also comes with a relatively large 4000mAh battery with 40W charging, a rarity in its segment.
However, the lack of Google apps, limited availability, and 4G-only support will still hamper the phone’s chances of shining in this market. Also, even if you find it listed online, it’s likely to be way more expensive than its Galaxy rival.
If you live in China, you have a bunch of additional foldable options in the market. And we feel it’s worth checking out the recently announced OPPO Find N (review).
OPPO Find N
OPPO Find N
OPPO’s first foldable, the OPPO Find N is pretty impressive considering its robust built quality, a powerful triple camera setup that’s comparable to high-end devices, and excellent battery life. Most notably, the phone features a wider 5.5-inch cover screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, unlike its rivals in the segment with a weird aspect ratio. On the inside, you have a pretty large 7.1-inch 120Hz tablet-like display with Gorilla Glass Victus protection.
Under the hood, the phone comes with last year’s Snapdragon 888 with up to 12GB of RAM, so it’s never going to be short of power. It also features a large 4500mAh battery with 33W wired and 15W wireless charging. Unfortunately, it lacks water resistance, unlike its Galaxy rival.
Another big drawback of the phone as I mentioned above is its limited China availability. But if you want to get one, you can resort to international retailers like Giztop to order one for yourself outside of China.
We have also seen more foldables from smartphone brands like Xiaomi and Honor. But the above list contains the foldables that we think are the best options in 2022.
