The Chinese tech startup Nothing will unveil its highly anticipated smartphone, dubbed the Nothing Phone (1), on July 12. Ahead of its launch, the design and some of the features of the smartphone have already been revealed.
Image Credit: Marques Brownlee via YouTube
Now, the company’s official TikTok account has unveiled key features of the smartphone via short clips. The clips have revealed that the Phone (1)’s display panel will feature support for a 120Hz refresh rate and will have an in-display fingerprint reader. We know from previous leaks that the smartphone will be positioned as a mid-range device and will also be priced aggressively in key markets like India.
The absence of an in-display fingerprint scanner can be a deal-breaker for many customers looking for a decent mid-range device. So, Nothing has made its smartphone a lot more appealing by including this feature. Other than that, this video also clears up the rumors surrounding the device, which state that the Phone (1) will only have a 90Hz display.
Nothing Phone (1) specs
So far, rumors regarding the Nothing Phone (1) state that it will have a 6.55-inch OLED display. It will have a punch-hole cutout at the top left for the selfie camera and will feature even-sized bezels going around the display.
The company has confirmed that the device will be powered by a Snapdragon 778+ 5G chipset. The device is expected to be available with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 256GB of UFS 3.1 memory configuration. The battery is expected to be 4500mAh and a recent TUV certification has revealed that it will have 33W fast charging. Interestingly, the charger for the device will offer up to 45W fast charging support.

There have been speculations that Apple will not use BOE as a supplier for the upcoming iPhone 14 OLED screen. However, a recent report from China says that the Chinese company is set to begin mass production of the iPhone 14 screens for Apple. BOE’s status as a supplier for the iPhone 14 OLEDs recently came under scrutiny due to design changes observed in the iPhone 13. BOE had been accused of unilaterally changing some design elements in the panel.
BOE’s display panels for the iPhone 14 were reportedly certified by Apple last week. This paves the way for the company to deliver its supply target by starting production this month. While mass production commences by July ending, shipment of the panels will begin by September. September is a traditionally busy month for Apple when it usually announces its new iPhones.
BOE is expected to deliver up to 5 million iPhone 14 display panels which are about 5.6% of the 90 million units Apple requires. Samsung has the bulk of the supply order with 60 million units (~67%). BOE will only supply the 6.1-inch LTPS OLED panels for the iPhone 14 vanilla model. It is unclear what is the distribution of panels according to the different models in the iPhone 14 lineup. If the news is confirmed, then BOE will be offering such a service to Apple for the third time after delivering on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13. Neither BOE nor Apple has provided any details yet on the matter at this time.

While the Pixel 6 series was a success in the market, it is also known for being one of the most buggiest smartphones from Google. The brand has offered various fixes for a lot of these issues, but the amount of bugs might have the company lose out on customers.
Pixel 6 Pro
According to aTradingPlatform’s Edith Reads, the Search Engine giant might be losing out on its loyal userbase over the number of issues its Pixel 6 series have been facing. As per the latest analysis from her company, the Pixel devices have a drastic fall in popularity. The report adds that as many as 36 percent of the Pixel owners are considering to abandon the brand for another smartphone maker.
Overall, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro has seen great reception in the market. However, the two flagship smartphones have been plagued with a number of bugs ever since they were first launched. The issues ranged from problems with the display, its fingerprint scanner, and many more. As of right now, most of these issues have been addressed but there are still issues that affect the device on a hardware level.
Pixel 6
A great example being the fingerprint scanner, which has been slow since the start. The updates have attempted to fix this but the scanner is still slower than other rivals in the market. While many of the bugs were minor inconveniences, TradingPlatforms’s report has suggested that Pixel 6 series has not been performing well at carrier stores.

Apple went big on security and privacy today. The company announced that it will be adding a new security tool called “Lockdown Mode” to the iPhone, the iPad, and the Mac. This feature will protect High-profile users such as journalists, activists, and politicians from targeted cyberattacks. The new tool will prevent attackers from exploiting the vulnerability discovered in Apple’s software.
Cybersecurity has become one of the major issues. There have been cases of agencies and governments targeting the smartphones of high-profile individuals using certain software. For example, Pegasus, a software developed by NSO group, is often used to hack into the phones of people using GIFs, links, and other forms.
The new feature, called Lockdown Mode, will provide protection for a “very small number of users who face grave, targeted attacks,” Apple said Wednesday in a statement. Apparently, the tool will reduce the number of physical and digital ways for an attacker to target a user’s device.
The Cupertino company said the feature is aimed primarily at trying to combat attacks from “spyware” sold by NSO Group and other companies, particularly to government-sponsored groups.
When enabled, the “Lockdown Mode” will block link previews, invitations, and FaceTime calls from unknown users. In addition, it will turn off certain web browsing technology by default, shut down wired connections to computers, and more.
Ivan Krstić, Apple’s head of Security Engineering and Architecture, said, “Apple makes the most secure mobile devices on the market. Lockdown Mode is a groundbreaking capability that reflects our unwavering commitment to protecting users from even the rarest, most sophisticated attacks. While the vast majority of users will never be the victims of highly targeted cyberattacks, we will work tirelessly to protect the small number of users who are.”
Krstić further added, “That includes continuing to design defenses specifically for these users, as well as supporting researchers and organizations around the world doing critically important work in exposing mercenary companies that create these digital attacks.”
The new tool will be optional for users of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura. Apple will enhance the capabilities of “Lockdown Mode” and introduce more protections for users.

Built on the 14nm process, the LPDDR5x RAM offers speeds of up to 8.5 Gbps. In comparison, the LPDDR5 RAM works at 6.4 GHz. Micron is the other company that develops LPDDR5x RAM.
