Xiaomi has announced a new set of devices that will no longer enjoy software support. A total of 10 devices have been included in the company’s end-of-support (EOS) list. This means that the products will not enjoy firmware and security updates anymore.
Redmi K20
The 10 devices have spent upwards of two years since their launch and at least one Android update. Xiaomi will also discontinue the regular security updates for the 10 devices. The devices are the Redmi K20, Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7S, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and Redmi 7. Others are the Redmi Y3, Mi Pad 4, Mi Pad 4 Plus, Mi Play, and Mi 9 SE.
Mi Pad 4 and Mi Pad 4 Plus
The inclusion of the 10 Xiaomi devices in the EOS list means that Xiaomi will no longer provide responses to security vulnerability reports. The Redmi Note 7 series was released three years ago and have enjoyed just one Android OS upgrade. The Redmi K20 is also about 3 years old.
Owners of the 10 Xiaomi devices did not enjoy the latest MIUI 13 update rolled out by Xiaomi. The end-of-support list is a dynamic list of older devices that have gone through their software cycle. Generally, most OEMs have a maximum of two firmware upgrades in the lifetime of a device. This could span a number of years.
Ever since the release of the first Mi Band, the whole smart wearable market has been flooded with similar cheap products for years. However, the Mi Band series is still the best of them all and has successfully updated to the 7th generation model. At the just-concluded Redmi Note 11T launch event, the Mi Band 7 got officially released in China. The new Mi Band has not only been upgraded with a slightly bigger display but also supports richer sports tracking and other new features.
For those who are looking for a smart-tracking wearable for their exercise, the Mi band 7 no doubt would make it into their wishlist.
First, let’s see what we get inside the new Mi Band package.
Well, the packaging is similar to the previous models, nothing special if you just look at the packaging and the smart band design. It seems that Xiaomi doesn’t want to spend too much on packaging and design. But it really makes sense if you realize that the design of the whole series hasn’t changed a lot from the first model. Smart bands are still the entry-level devices in the smart wearable ecosystem, and their success is largely due to their rich features and the fact that they are cheap.
The model we got our hands on is a Mi Band 7 NFC version, which supports copying access cards or NFC Payment. In addition to those upgraded features, it inherits almost all the features of the Xiaomi Band 6. For example, it supports multiple sports tracking, sleep tracking, and swimming mode with 5ATM waterproofing. The Mi Band 7 also enables the tracking of key body data, including heart rate, blood oxygen, and stress index. In heart rate tracking, users can set the frequency of monitoring and set alerts for abnormal heart rate detection. And not just all-day heart rate tracking, it can also monitor stress throughout the whole day.
For sleep tracking, it supports monitoring both nighttime sleep tracking and daytime nap, in which you can view your deep and light sleep data and rapid eye movement records. Apart from the basic sleep data, it also has sleep-breathing-quality monitoring, which can help determine whether there is sleep apnea.
For female users, the Xiaomi Mi Band 7 also supports convenient recording and prediction of periods too.
But almost all the features we mentioned above were already available on its predecessor. So here we’ll just give you a brief review.
Now let’s check out what has been upgraded.
The first upgrade is the bigger AMOLED display. The racetrack front face is a classic design for the Mi Band series. On the Mi Band 6 it’s already reached a retina pixel density of 326PPI, while on the new model, the screen size has been expanded from 1.56 to 1.62 inches with the same pixel density. But apart from being a little wider, there are not really changes to its compact dimensions. And the weight of 13.5g is still great.
Along with the bigger display, its brightness and running smoothness have also been improved. The Mi Band 7 is upgraded with the new Dialog chipset, which is more powerful and can achieve GPU graphics rendering. And it did bring smoother animation effects and a better visual experience. Meanwhile, in terms of software, Xiaomi has also made adjustments to the User interface, allowing more content to be displayed. During the experience, we did feel the information arrangement is also more reasonable.
With this AMOLED display, the always-on-display feature is finally coming to the Mi band series. But thankfully, the addition of the new feature doesn’t affect its battery life. The new model with the larger battery even can last 4 days longer with heavy use.
The attached strap is made of TPU material and is antibacterial. And there’s a new sweat-conducting slot being added to the inside of the band. It seems to be helpful to drain sweat or water away quickly.
As for health tracking, the continuous all-day tracking of blood oxygen is now available on the Mi Band 7, which can also push alerts in real-time when low blood oxygen is detected.
Compared to the 30 sport modes supported on the Mi Band 6, up to 120 sport modes make the new wearable handle a wider range of sports. Like the Huawei smart wearables, the Mi Band 7 is also able to analyze your sports data, such as oxygen uptake, training effect, recovery time, and training load. And if move to the phone app, you will receive a complete report of your exercise. And don’t worry whether you’re using a Mi phone or not, the official Mi health app now is available and works pretty well on both Android and iOS platforms.
Another great upgrade is its new positioning capacity. The Mi band 7 adds an independent positioning chip to support GPS, as the predecessors needed to rely on the phone for the positioning function. Now you can use it separately without activating the phone’s GPS.
So that’s all upgrades that we have on the Mi Band 7 NFC version. Although we didn’t see a completely redesigned model, the classic design of the series is great, and it’s already capable of carrying all the new features of this entry-level wearable. Indeed, we don’t really see any reason why it needs to be redesigned. More importantly, it still holds up at a price that most people can afford. But on the other hand, if you don’t really care about those upgrades we mentioned, the cheaper Mi Band 6 could also be an excellent option.

Foldable phone shipments rose by 571 percent in the first quarter of this year as per market research consultant DSCC. Major OEMs of foldable devices sold 2.22 million units in the January-March quarter. This was also the third-best quarter for foldable smartphones, however, the shipments were still 47 percent down quarter-on-quarter from a record high of 4.2 million units sold in Q4, 2021.
South Korean brand Samsung continued to dominate the foldable smartphone market. However, its market share fell to 74 percent from Q4,21. Meanwhile, Huawei’s market share rose to 20 percent and no other brand had more than a 2 percent share in Q2 2022.
In terms of the types of foldable smartphones, clamshell phones dominated the market with a 70 percent share. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 was the most popular choice and it alone accounted for 51 percent of all the foldable phones shipped. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 was the second popular foldable phone for the third consecutive quarter. Huawei’s rising market share is also attributed to the Huawei Pocket P50 which is again a clamshell phone. The above three models accounted for a 91 percent share.
The DSCC report states that the foldable smartphone market is expected to see strong growth in 2022. It expects to see a 107 percent increase in foldable smartphone shipments to over 16 million units. Much of the expectations will be on Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4.

Last month, we had shared our picks of some of the best smartphones that were available in India under the price range of 20,000 INR (roughly 258 US Dollars). Now, we have another list, but this time, we’re looking at smartphones that are the best in the sub 30,000 INR category (roughly 387 US Dollars). So let’s have a look.
iQOO Neo 6
In this price range, the iQOO Neo 6 is undoubtedly one of the best options a prospective buyer can consider when buying a phone under 30,000 INR. It sports a 6.62 inch FHD+ AMOLED display that has a 120Hz refresh rate. So all in all, its a pretty solid pick in this price tag thanks to its great specifications and relatively affordable price tag. It is currently listed on Amazon India for a price of 29,999 INR for the 8GB + 128GB model. Another iQOO phone that you can consider is the iQOO 7 that has a similar price tag and also feature the Snapdragon 870. However, this variant is a bit older so the newer model will have longer software support.
Motorola Edge 30
Motorola has had a strong performance in the mid range segment and its latest Edge 30 is another great option for those that prefer a stock Android experience with their smartphones. It sports a 6.55 inch pOLED display that has a FHD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the device is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC and it runs on Android 12 OS out of the box.

It is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC that is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. On the front it sports a 6.43 inch AMOLED HDR10+ display that has a FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. While these specs are solid, its unique selling point is its rear cameras.

The smartphone packs a triple camera setup on the rear, with the primary sensor being a 50 megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor, an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 2 megapixel depth sensor. Although, you can also check out the Realme 9 Pro+ as well, which is slightly cheaper but has many similar features apart from a Dimensity 920 SoC.

Within the 30,000 INR segment, flagship smartphones aren’t as common and we already listed the iQOO Neo 6, which had some top notch specs. Although, Vivo has a handset that offers a premium experience through its design. The Vivo V23 features a Fluorite AG Glass that glitters when light is reflected on it. Its Galaxy M series has always been popular in this price range and one of the latest includes the M52, which offers a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC and a massive 5,000mah battery pack that supports 25W fast charging (although, the box only includes a 15W charger).

WhatsApp might be planning on bringing a highly requested feature to its smartphone app soon. The company’s future updates could finally be bringing the option to edit messages that have already been sent.
The news arrives from a WABetaInforeport who shared screenshot of a development build. This image showcases an “Edit message” option, which is currently not available on the live build. Notably, this screenshot was for the Android version of the app, but the feature will likely be shipped for the iOS version as well. As of right now, it is unknown how this feature will work on the popular messaging app.
Although, this has been one of the most requested features and can help rectify messages that are already sent. At the moment, users only have the option to correct their message by sending a clarification in a new one or just deleting the message entirely and again sending another message. So, this might be a great quality of life change that de-clutters the chats of its users.
The new Edit option will be housed on the top right corner of the app, appearing after one has selected a particular chat bubble. This menu currently houses the Copy and Info options in the live builds. It is unclear as to when this feature will be rolled out for the WhatsApp application. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.

A Samsung 5W wireless charger reportedly appeared on the FCC certification website and it is speculated to be for the upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 lineup, which is expected to launch in August. The listing doesn’t reveal any other key specifications. However, a report earlier this month said that the upcoming smartwatches will feature slightly larger batteries than the previous models.
According to a report by MySmartPrice, a new Samsung 5W fast charger appeared on the FCC certification site, which could be for the upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 Series. The charger has been spotted on the website with model number EP-OR900 which correlates with Galaxy Watch 5 40mm model’s battery with model number EB-BR900ABY.

A Samsung charger bearing the same model number was also spotted (via Sammobile) on South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency (RRA). This all indicates that we are moving closer to the launch of the new Galaxy Watches.
As mentioned above, the previous generation watches—the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Watch 3 series came with the same 5W wireless charging speed leading to a charging time of under two hours for a full charge.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is expected to land in August. Samsung hasn’t revealed any details about the watch 5, but we already know the smartwatch will come in two sizes- 40mm and 44mm. Also, there is going to be no classic model this year. The company has replaced it with a “Pro” version.
According to previous leaks, the Galaxy Watch 5 40mm version will sport a 276mAh battery. While the larger 44mm model will come with a 397mAh battery. The upcoming watches are also said to carry Titanium and Sapphire build.
Huawei hasn’t launched new 5G smartphones since the US sanctions came into effect. But it turns out the company still has some old 5G inventory. As part of the ongoing 618 sales promotion in China, the once world’s largest smartphone brand is selling a couple of old 5G handsets.
A report by IThome reveals that Huawei has put some of its old 5G smartphones on sale on its official eCommerce platform Vmall. These devices belong to the Nova lineup.
The company had been selling the Huawei Nova 8 5G series every now and then. But now, for the first time, it has listed the Huawei Nova 7 5G and the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G Lohas Edition for purchase after a long time.
For the unaware, the Huawei Nova 7 5G made its debut in April 2020. It comes powered by a Hisilicon Kirin 985 chipset. On the other hand, the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G Lohas Edition was announced in January 2021 with a Hisilicon Kirin 820E chip underneath it.
Huawei is most likely clearing the old stock. Hence, if you are interested in buying a brand-new unused Huawei 5G smartphone, then this could be your last chance since the US sanctions don’t seem to go away in the near future.
