Redmi K50 Gaming Edition teased to feature “breakthrough” audio setup

The Redmi K50 ‘universe’ comprised of the Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, Redmi K50 Pro+, and Redmi K50 Gaming Edition is all set to go live on February 16th in China. From these, Xiaomi seems to have huge expectations from the Redmi K50 Gaming and has been teasing its features extensively for the past week, with the latest focusing on its audio prowess.

With a post on microblogging site Weibo, Redmi has talked about the concept of frequencies. While most of the music and other other “mainstream” audio is limited to the 500-2000Hz mid-frequency band, nailing higher frequencies on speakers has been asserted to be just as important. Redmi says if frequencies are higher than 2000Hz are missing, outputted audio sounds unnatural and less lively. The same holds true for lower frequency sounds as well.

redmi k50 gaming edition audio

Manufacturers thus aim to achieve an optimum “crossover” of both high-frequency and low-frequency sounds at the same time with a single speaker. But getting this right, unfortunately, is rather difficult.

Redmi says that the solution for this is dividing speakers into units dedicated to either higher or lower frequencies, and firing audio through them together for more balanced sound. This has been claimed to be essential across a number of gaming scenarios such as in FPS games where the ability to distinguish footsteps and gunshots is crucial.

Redmi K50 Gaming Edition

The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition has been revealed to be doing just that and comes with a dual symmetrical stereo speaker setup by JBL, further enhanced by Dolby Atmos support. The special audio config is being marketed as a “breakthrough” and should result in significantly better speaker performance over last year’s Redmi K40 Gaming Edition.

Apart from audio, the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition has also been claimed to have achieved another breakthrough in the haptics department, coming with an enhanced version of the X-axis linear motor.

Google to launch its foldable Pixel phone in Q4 2022: Report

Back in 2021, we had reported on various rumors regarding the first foldable smartphone from Google. However, the latest reports regarding the foldable Pixel hinted at the device no longer being in development. But it seems that this might not be the case anymore.

According to Ross Young from DSCC, the Search Engine giant has apparently revived its foldable smartphone project. Now, the company is planning on starting the production for the Pixel Fold’s display in the third quarter of this year. Ross Young further added that the device is set to launch in the fourth and final quarter of 2022. Unfortunately, apart from these timelines, the tweet did not reveal any finer details regarding this upcoming handset.

Google

Although, we do have some information based on our previous reports. The Pixel Fold will reportedly sport a LTPO OLED display with a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz. On the rear, it was believed to feature the 12.2 megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor paired with 12 megapixel Sony IMX386 sensor for an ultra wide angle lens and two 8 megapixel Sony IMX355 sensors as well. Other features include Android 12L operating system. According to tipster Yogesh Brar, the Motorola Edge 30 Pro will arrive in a single memory configuration in India. The phone will be only available in an 8GB + 128GB version.

He further states that the device will have support for 13 5G bands. But unfortunately, just like the memory variant, it will be available in a sole Cosmic Blue color variant.

Unlike most recently released Android smartphones, this one will ship with Android 12 out of the box. It will be also eligible for two Android updates throughout its lifetime. So buyers can expect to use Android 13 as well as Android 14 on this handset in the future.

Finally, the leaker says that the phone will cost around ₹45,000-₹50,000 in India. This goes in line with the retail box leak from yesterday, which suggested an MRP (Maximum Retail Price) of ₹55,999. Usually, products don’t sell at their MRP, and therefore, we also guessed it to be priced under ₹50,000.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming Motorola Edge 30 Pro based on the aforementioned information? Do let us know in the comment section below.

ASUS ROG Phone 5s series launched in India with Snapdragon 888+ and fancy RGB lighting

The ASUS ROG Phone 5s series was first launched in August last year but did not make its way to some markets including India. That changed today, though, with a virtual launch event lifting the curtains on the Indian variants of both phones. While the duo is identical in terms of specs, the Pro variant differs in terms of memory configs and design.

ASUS ROG Phone 5s featured

First things first, the ASUS ROG Phone 5s series is equipped with the Snapdragon 888+ CPU that’s aided by the Adreno 660 for graphics. The chip is top-of-the-line but is now superseded by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, although both should offer similar performance.

Audio is handled by front-firing 7-magnet stereo speakers with Dirac HD Sound. The battery is sized 6,000mAh but is split into two 3,000mAh units for improved thermals. It can be filled up to 70% in just 30 minutes thanks to 65W charging support.

The temps are kept under control through an extensive cooling system comprised of a couple of large graphite cooling pads and a ‘copper 3D vapor chamber.’ An optional cooling fan accessory that can be attached to the back is available too.

For photography, you get a triple camera setup at the back comprised of 64MP primary (Sony IMX686), 13MP ultrawide, and macro cameras. On the front, there’s a 24MP selfie snapper.

On top of all of the above, the ASUS ROG Phone 5s series comes with a number of gaming-specific features as well such as dedicated triggers, landscape USB-C charging, intelligent Wi-Fi/mobile data switching, and Aura RGB Lighting.

Additionally, the Pro variant is only available with 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS3.1 storage.

Samsung makes Google Messages default SMS app for Galaxy S22 lineup in the US

The latest Samsung Galaxy S22 series smartphones in the United States come pre-installed with Google Messages as the default messaging application which has support for Rich Communication Services (RCS).

Prior to this, Samsung had its own stock messaging app that was compatible with RCS which was the default SMS application on the South Korean giant’s devices in almost all regions before it started transitioning to Google Messages.

This is a new development for the Samsung premium smartphones in the United States by in the European market, the Sout Korean company switched to Google Messages as the default app with last year’s Galaxy S21 lineup.

The company has also confirmed this move and in a statement, Samsung spokesperson Jordan Guthmann said: “To create the best possible messaging experience for users — with a richer, more engaging communication experience that is consistent across platforms — Samsung is now making Messages the default messaging app for Galaxy S22 series users worldwide, giving them even better capabilities.”

Given that Samsung makes up a significant portion of Android smartphones sold in the United States, the adoption of Google Messages could be proved to be a boon for RCS adoption in the region.

For those who are unaware, Rich Communication Services (RCS) is a next-gen SMS texting version that comes with features like typing indicators, read receipts, and the ability to share higher resolution photos and larger files, among others.

While the technology isn’t new, it has taken many years for it to reach the market. Although companies agrees to replace SMS with RCS in 2019, telecom network operators in the US started making changes from last year by adding Google Messages, which now has end-to-end encryption, as the default messaging app on their Android phones.

Alienware 34-inch QD-OLED monitor to be available from next month for $1,299

A few weeks ago, Dell had announced the Alienware AW3423DW 34-inch gaming monitor at the Consumer Electronics Show and now more details about the product as well as pricing and availability details have been revealed.

The monitor features QD-OLED display which is promising image enhancement and improved color coverage. It is also touted to be the first monitor to feature QD-OLED and is priced at $1,299, lower than the OLED monitors in the market. It will be available for purchase in this spring, from 29th March.

This new Alienware AW3423DW monitor’s specifications are on the higher side as the company is targeting it towards gamers. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series was announced on February 9th, at the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event. However, some customers have already got their hands on these new devices according to a TechRadar report. The Samsung subreddit has been blowing up with users posting about receiving their latest Galaxy S22 smartphones way earlier than expected. The reporters have mostly been about receiving the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the S22 Plus models.

The prevailing theory is that some customers who ordered the devices as soon as the pre-order windows opened got their devices dispatched to them immediately.

The comments sections are also largely filled with disappointed customers who have still received their devices. Some people have also reported being given arrival dates way ahead of the official release date of February 25th. However, it could just be due to system errors from the retailers and couriers, therefore we suggest people assume that their devices will arrive post the official release date rather than any date that’s been shown prior.

Ford rumored to re-enter Indian market to manufacture and sell EVs

Ford Motor Company is planning to re-enter the Indian Market after its exit in 2021. The company is looking towards making India the hub of manufacturing and exporting EVs to the international markets. The company has also hinted at the possibility of selling cars in the domestic market in the future.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

The news of this upcoming venture came to light when Ford’s application to participate in the federal government’s Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme got approved. This particular scheme aims at making India a hub for automobile manufacturing and offers incentives to the companies that set up their production units in the country.

Ford, which has two plants in India, said that it is now “exploring the possibility of using a plant in India as an export base for EV manufacturing”. Although the company had left the Indian market just six months back, stating that the Indian market was not profitable for the company and was ready to suffer $2 billion in losses.

While the company has no concrete plans to develop electric vehicles for the Indian market, the company said, “There is no specific discussion on this right now, but it is not out of the realm of future consideration. Ford also plans to serve customers in India with must-have iconic vehicles, including the Mustang coupe.”

This news aligns with Ford’s announcement that it is focusing on electric vehicles and has announced a massive budget of $30 billion globally to develop new fully-electric and new hybrid vehicles.
Considering these announcements and the Indian electric vehicle market, it would be a great time for ford to enter the Indian market as it is still in a nascent stage. But both the Ford plants in the country – one in Sanand, Gujarat, and the other one in Chennai would require significant upgrades in order to be able to start making electric vehicles.

If all goes well, this move could prove beneficial for the Indian market as it would provide much-needed competition as well as affordable electric cars to boost the adoption of zero-emission vehicles in the country.
