BYD is the popular Chinese battery and electric carmaker that is backed by many high profile investors across the globe, including the US billionaire investor Warren Buffett. Throughout 2021, the company sold 603,782 new energy vehicles. Compared with the sales numbers of 189,689 in 2020, it has seen a sales revenue increase of 218% from a year earlier, the company said in an announcement.

BYD Dolphin-1
BYD Dolphin EV

Following the BYD Dolphin EV released in 2021, BYD is looking to continue its ocean-themed design and names into its 2022 EV models as well. Several media outlets in China are already reporting about the rumours of the car manufacturer’s supposedly upcoming models, which are leaked to be named as the BYD Seal, the BYD Seagull, and the BYD Sea Lion.

BYD Seal

For the BYD Seal, it is set to be announced in Q1 of 2022 in China. With a rumoured retail price of around 150 to 200 thousand RMB(24 to 32 thousand USD), the fully electric-powered sedan is aimed towards the mid-range market and is claimed to be the unofficial successor to the BYD Dolphin revealed in August 2021 last year. Chinese reports show that the BYD Seal will be 4,770 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,460 mm tall, and its wheelbase will measure 2,900 mm. BYD will offer it with an 800-volt battery pack that provides it with a range of up to 700 km.

The electric vehicle may also come in 2 variants: an RWD and an AWD variant. The AWD variant allows the vehicle to achieve a quick 0-100 km/h acceleration time in just over 3 seconds (3.3 or 3.4 seconds). The AWD variant will sport two motors, one producing 200 kW and one producing 160 kW while The RWD variant will be available with two motor options: 150 kW and 180 kW, reports said.

BYD Seagull

For the BYD Seagull, it is set to be announced in Q2 of 2022 in China. Aimed towards entry-level consumers who don’t want to spend much on an EV, the BYD Seagull is a miniature EV and the rumoured price tag for the vehicle is between 60 and 80 thousand RMB (9.5 and 12.6 thousand USD). No further details about the EV were mentioned in the reports.

BYD Sea Lion

For the BYD Sea Lion, it is set to be announced in Q3 of 2022 in China. As the company’s premium flagship EV this year, the BYD Sea Lion is expected to be a fully electric SUV that is rumoured to sell for around 200 to 250 thousand RMB(32 thousand to 40 thousand USD). It will reportedly be an electric SUV competing with the Tesla Model Y, which puts it above the Yuan Plus within the BYD lineup.

Recently, leakster Greg Kable shared on Twitter spy photos of the alleged BYD Sea Lion. It is said that the BYD Sea Lion could be the production version of the BYD X Dream concept that debuted at the Auto China 2021 event. BYD said during the presentation that the concept features the brand’s “well-received” Dragon Face design language and uses Chinese knot elements, which will be a key feature on the design front on future BYD vehicles.

With 3 new EVs models to be released in 2022, in addition to the announcement of Japanese carmaker Toyota partnering with the company to help BYD develop its cars in 2022, BYD’s growth is expected to continue in the Chinese market and it may even make its impact on the global industry in 2022 as well.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro Max: Specs Comparison

The OnePlus 10 Pro is the most powerful flagship launched in 2022 now. With its amazing specs sheet, it offers all the best you can expect from a 2022 phone without compromises. But will this be enough to make this device a good alternative to the best iPhone? It is a very challenging question, especially if we consider that the iPhones have a different operating system. But knowing the differences between the OnePlus 10 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max is the first step to understand which is the most valid handset: this comparison will highlight the differences between their specifications.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max

ADDITIONAL FEATURES 5G, dual SIM, reverse wireless charging 5G, optional dual SIM, IP68 waterproof

Design

I love the curved screen of the OnePlus 10 Pro, but the iconic design of the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max and its amazing build quality make it more interesting when it comes to aesthetics. The iPhone has a thinner body with a thickness of 7.7 mm and a 20 percent smaller notch if compared to the previous generations, as well as those trending flat borders which inspired several other brands. Further, it comes with a glass back protected by Ceramic Shield and an awesome stainless steel frame. Last but not least, it is waterproof with the IP68 certifications (up to 6 meters deep for 30 minutes), while the OnePlus 10 Pro lacks an IP certification.

Display

On the paper, the OnePlus 10 Pro looks to have better display specifications. Its panel is able to show up to one billion colors with a 10-bit color depth, it has a high Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3216 pixels, the HDR10+ certification, the LTPO 2.0 enabling an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, and an in-display fingerprint reader. However, the image quality of the iPhone 13 Pro Max and its color reproduction are so impressive that it reaches the OnePlus 10 Pro even though the specifications on the paper seem inferior. The iPhone lacks an in-display fingerprint reader but it relies on an even safer authentication method: 3D facial recognition powered by Face ID.

Specs & Software

Both these devices will give you amazing performances, the max you can get with each operating system. However, the power users might notice that the iPhone 13 Pro Max is a bit faster and more stable: the merit goes to the iOS operating system and its amazing stabilization. The iPhone 13 Pro Max gets just 6 GB of RAM, but its multi-tasking performance is comparable to the OnePlus 10 Pro thanks to iOS. However, you will notice these small differences only in the most demanding usage scenarios: you would better focus on the other specifications because performance is very high on both these devices.

Camera

With normal photos and videos, the iPhone 13 Pro Max should give you better image quality. It sports a 12 MP main camera, a 12 MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, and an ultrawide camera with the same 12 MP resolution. On the other hand, the OnePlus 10 Pro provides better zoom capabilities thanks to an 8 MP telephoto sensor with 3.3x optical zoom and better ultrawide shots thanks to a 50 MP ultrawide camera with 150° FOV.

Battery

Despite having a smaller battery, the iPhone 13 Pro Max provides a longer battery life in a lot of scenarios thanks to the optimization provided by iOS. But the OnePlus 10 Pro supports faster charging technologies: 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Price

The OnePlus 10 Pro has a starting price tag of about €650/$738 in the Chinese market, while we still do not know how much it will cost in the global market. You need €1250/$1418 to purchase the iPhone 13 Pro Max in China. While the iPhone is definitely the winner of this comparison, the OnePlus flagship has a significantly higher value for money.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max: PRO and CONS

OnePlus 10 Pro

PRO

  • 3.3x optical zoom
  • Quad HD+ resolution
  • Faster charging
  • Faster wireless charging

Google lands in trouble over ‘Deceptive’ Pixel 4 radio ads

Search giant Google has landed in legal trouble again but not for something they recently did. The company is being sued in Texas for radio advertising that aired from late October to early December of 2019.

Google

According to a report by AndroidCentral, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has brought forth this lawsuit claiming that Google ran inaccurate and deceiving advertisements about its Pixel 4 smartphones in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston markets. The claims allege that Google refused to provide the Pixel 4 smartphones to the advertisers while requiring them to give a positive, personal testimony about using the product.

Specifically, the suit states that “Google demanded the recording and broadcast of the advertisements using Google’s scripted and deceptive wording” even after being informed by iHeartMedia that such practices were against the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Consumer Protection Act.

The script of these ads included phrases like  “I’ve been taking studio-like photos of everything…my son’s football game… a meteor shower… a rare spotted owl that landed in my backyard.” Google had allowed the broadcasters to slightly modify the specific events spoken of in the script but did not allow them to remove the personal claims.

Google spokesperson José Castañeda stated that Google “will review the complaint but the AG’s allegations appear to misrepresent what occurred here.”

The Attorney General also added that the ads ran 2405 times on iHeartMedia radio channels between October 28, 2019, and December 2, 2019. During this period, Google did not provide the Pixel 4 device to any of the eight radio personalities that had “personalized” messages about their use of the Pixel 4 device for this advertisement.

In January 2020, Google again approach iHeartMedia to run a similar ad campaign for the Pixel 4 and did not provide the smartphones to the radio personalities until after iHeartMedia attempted to purchase them on their own. The suit added that “this continued pattern of behavior demonstrates the blatant disregard Google possesses for true and accurate advertising in the marketing and sale of its products.”

If Google is found guilty of the alleged charges, the company will be ordered to “pay civil penalties not to exceed $10,000 per violation of the DTPA to the State of Texas,” along with any court fees, according to the suit.

Microsoft unveils a custom Xbox Series S for the Year of the Tiger

Microsoft has revealed yet another customized console of its Xbox Series S to mark the Year of the Tiger on the Chinese zodiac, although it is thought that this new console will not be available for purchase. Microsoft says as part of its celebration of the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Tiger, Xbox has created 15 custom Xbox Series S consoles and accompanying Xbox Wireless Controllers with Chinese cartoon designer Bu2ma, which are inspired by a character from his work that has gained iconic status. Instead of being put on sale, the consoles will be the giveaway for a contest on Wechat and Bilibili which begins from January 25.Micorosft Xbox Series S Year of the Tiger Edition

The custom Xbox Series S consoles and wireless controllers will certainly be collector’s items and will be iconic as well. Microsoft has produced lots of Xbox consoles sporting customized designs over the years. Some of the consoles and controllers were tie-ins with some of the more popular games and sold mostly on a limited-edition basis. There have been other Xbox customized console designs that were far deeper than just faceplate customization, also on a limited edition basis.

According to the Chinese Lunar calendar, the Year of the Tiger begins from February 1, 2022, to January 21, 2023. The Tiger remains a revered giant of Chinese folklore and also a wildlife delight. It is however not clear how many units of the custom Xbox Series S consoles will be manufactured for giveaways during the contest. Whatever the case, it is clear that the new customized Xbox Series S special edition consoles will have a great appeal even though they will not grace any retail outlet.

Here’s why Apple won’t be shipping iPhones with earbuds in France anymore

The flip-flop between Apple and the French government relating to iPhone shipments to the country has taken another turn. Back in September 2021, Apple agreed to bundle earbuds into the iPhone package for the country due to lack of compliance with a specific French law.Apple iPhone 11 All Colors Featured

The law specified that all handsets sold in France must have an accessory that can limit the user’s exposure of his head to radioelectric emissions when using the phone. Apple had already left out the earbuds as part of the package for the iPhone 12 in 2020. The company had to navigate through the issue by packing the iPhone 12 models for France in a separate box that included the earphones as required. However, a change in the extant law now specifically states that manufacturers of smartphones are no longer required to give headphones/hands-free kits in France.

Apple will start selling its iPhones in France without the earbuds from January 24, as a response to the changes in the law which was quite controversial. Resellers of smartphones in France have already stopped bundling the earphones into the box since January 17. The iPhone package will only have a Lightning to USB-C cable as an accessory. It is obviously a misreading of the radiation exposure risk in using smartphones by the French government that has led to the flip-flop. Indeed, there is no significant radiation exposure risk while using your smartphone, and using a headset/ earphone does not mitigate the exposure.

Although Apple has faced biting criticism for leaving out key accessories from its iPhone package, on the claims of environmental sustainability, and the French enforcement of the rule could have assuaged some of the bitter customers, albeit, its enforcement was for a short period.

Samsung‘s upcoming flagship Galaxy S22 lineup is rumored to release on 8th February 2022. Ahead of the rumored launch date, Samsung has started taking accepting reservations for the devices. And now, an Infographic image of Galaxy S22 Ultra has leaked revealing its key specifications.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Weibo tipster Anchor Technology Network has revealed an Infographic of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The image reveals details about the display, storage, and more which somewhat derails the hype train.Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Galaxy S22 Ultra Cameras

The image reveals that the device will come with a 108MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom, and f/4.9 aperture, a 10MP lens with 10x zoom and an f/4.9 aperture, and lastly, there will be a 12MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture. Upfront, it will equip a 40MP shooter with an f/2.2 aperture.

Galaxy S22 Ultra SoC variants

The infographic also reveals that the device will come in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 SoC variants. However, recent leaks have stated that the Exynos variant will come in fewer regions this time around.

Galaxy S22 Ultra Display

Moving on to the display specs, the image reveals that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will come with a big 6.8-inch 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a peak brightness of 1500 nits. Although quite impressive, it is not the rumored 1750 nits peak brightness that has been making the rounds lately.

A previous benchmark leak had revealed that the upcoming S22 Ultra and S22 Plus devices will come equipped with the brightest ever smartphone display at 1750 nits peak brightness and 1500 nits auto-brightness. However, it appears that either Samsung has decided to advertise the peak brightness as the auto peak brightness or all the previous 1750 nits leak were fake all along.

Galaxy S22 Ultra Storage

In the storage department, we get our second disappointment as the device will apparently come with only three storage options which will max out at 512GB instead of the rumored 1TB. The infographic reveals the three variants to be 12GB RAM + 128GB Storage, 12G RAM + 256GB storage and 16GB RAM + 512 GB storage.

Galaxy S22 Ultra Battery and Fast Charging

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will come with a 5000mAh battery size and support 45W fast charging which is will be the highest yet for a Samsung smartphone. This new 45W fast charging will reportedly fill the battery of the device from 0% to 70% in 30 minutes.

Galaxy S22 Ultra S Pen

The S Pen on the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be a lot faster than before at 2.8ms latency. This will offer a 3x improvement in latency compared to the S Pen on the Galaxy Note20 Ultra which offers 9ms. Paired with the 120Hz refresh rate and a lot more sensitive touch response, tasks like drawing on the Galaxy S22 Ultra are sure to be an enjoyable experience.

We will soon have the official spec list of all the upcoming Galaxy S22 series smartphones as the brand is will be officially releasing them in the Galaxy Unpacked event of February 8th, 2022. Till then, stay tuned for any notable developments.

Upcoming Smartphones: Redmi Note 11 Series and Micromax IN Note 2

Next week will be big for Xiaomi. Because the company will be holding its first global launch event of 2022. However, unlike last year, we won’t see flagship smartphones. Instead, the firm will be debuting new models in its best-selling lineup – the Redmi Note series. At the same time, Micromax will release a new phone in India after a long time. Let’s check out these handsets in detail.

Upcoming Smartphones Next Week

Redmi Note 11 Series

Xiaomi is known for offering smartphones at various price points. But the company’s most popular lineup worldwide is arguably the Redmi Note series. This family of phones is known for offering bang for buck products.

Last year’s Redmi Note 10 series set the bar high for the lineup. Hence, it will be interesting to see how Xiaomi plans to top it. Perhaps, it won’t, as the leaked details point towards an almost similar set of features.

The international Redmi Note 11 series may include at least five models, namely Redmi Note 11, Redmi Note 11S, Redmi Note 11 Pro 4G, Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, and Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G. But unfortunately, it’s not known surely known which of these models will be announced at the event. Maybe, all of them will go official at once.

Xiaomi’s first-ever global launch event for 2022 is scheduled for January 26. The live stream will kickstart at 8 PM (GMT+8) on the company’s official YouTube channel. The global launch of MIUI 13 may also happen at this conference.

Google Pixel Watch finally gets an unofficial launch date

The Google Pixel Watch could be launched as early as May 26th, according to a trusted tipster. The company’s first smartwatch offering has been making rounds on the internet for a while now but there hasn’t been any official word on it yet. This latest piece of info, though, shows that the watch has neared the final stages of its development.

The information comes from Jon Prosser who with the same tweet says that this is the very first time “they’ve seen a set date on the device behind the scenes.” Prosser also warns that Google is known for pushing back dates but if it does, he’ll know and likely inform all about it.

The leaked launch date appears to correspond with Google’s typical dates for its I/O developer conference and it seems that the introduction of the Pixel Watch will be taking place at the event.

Coming to the smartwatch itself, the Google Pixel Watch could be codenamed “rohan” and will likely be going up against the likes of the Apple Watch. Artistic renders have revealed that the device will have a round-shaped dial with extremely slim bezels and will come in a variety of colors.

A report from last month had revealed that the Google Pixel Watch will likely be powered by a custom-made SoC built by Samsung. Some watch faces that could be featured on the device have been leaked as well and they look to be following a Material You-inspired design language — minimal yet colorful.

OPPO Find N gets years worth of abuse in a single JerryRigEverything video, lives to tell the tale

Foldable smartphones are still a long way from becoming mainstream but continue to grow more popular as their design and build quality improves. Samsung reported it sold four times as many foldables in 2021 as it did in 2020, which is a clear indication of their success. Of course, OPPO didn’t want to be left behind in the competition and came up with an extremely compelling foldable offering of their own called the Find N. Being priced at around $1,500, many would naturally want to know how durable the thing is, and that’s where JerryRigEverything comes in.

oppo find n jre scratch test

As usual, the durability test video kicks off with a scratch test, and that’s something the exterior of the OPPO Find N simply aced. The Gorilla Glass Victus used on the outside is no joke and rates 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, meaning you should be able to keep both keys and phone in your pocket sans worry — although that’s definitely not recommended.

The hardness seems to be equal on both the front and rear of the phone but the textured glass back feels especially tough, actually wearing down the razor used to scratch test it.

Unfortunately, the same does not hold true for the inside of the OPPO Find N, which out of necessity is made of an odd combination of plastic and glass. To protect the glass underneath, a thin plastic film has been applied on top, meaning the inner display can be scratched even with your fingernail (like the case with any other foldable). While this may sound worrying, you should fare just fine — unless you’re planning on using the inside display panel as a nail filer.

Moving on to the bend test, the OPPO Find N once again surprises, failing to show any signs of damage despite Zach bending it the wrong way with all his might. OPPO says that it has used a ‘Flexion Hinge’ made up of 136 components and it’s pretty clear that the mechanism is built as tough as a tank.

oppo find n dirt test jre

Finally, the OPPO Find N is nearly buried in dirt to check if grains interfere with all of its moving parts. Even when repeatedly opened and closed with dirt rubbed onto the hinges, the foldable smartphone folds and unfolds without the slightest creak.

All in all, OPPO has outdone itself here despite the Find N being its very first foldable offering, and we see a bright future ahead for such devices.

Micromax In Note 2 key specs revealed by Flipkart

Yesterday, Micromax announced that it will unveil the Micromax In Note 2 on January 25 in India. Ahead of its launch, the phone’s key highlights have been revealed, thanks to the landing page on Flipkart.

The micro-site on Flipkart confirms the key specifications of the smartphone. The Micromax In Note 2 will come with a 6.43-inch punch-hole display. Interestingly, it will be a flat-screen AMOLED panel unlike the predecessor, which has an LCD screen. Unfortunately, the display resolution is not mentioned on the page.

Micromax In Note 2

As for the cameras, the smartphone will feature a quad-camera system. The rear camera island will be similar to the Galaxy S21’s module. It has the first three lenses placed vertically one after another and the fourth lens beside the sensors. The smartphone also has an LED flash. The camera specs are unknown, but the predecessor had a 48MP main lens, that being said, we can expect an improved sensor on the In Note 2.

Micromax In Note 2

Moving ahead, we finally get to learn about its chipset. The smartphone will be powered by the MediaTek Helio G95 SoC. For starters, this chipset has powered many budget phones in early 2021. Currently, we can see this chipset in the Infinix Note 10 Pro and Motorola Moto G60S phones. Both retail at around $200 – $300 price tag.

Coming back to the specs, one of the major highlights of the Micromax In Note 2 will be 30W fast charging. The smartphone is advertised to go from 0% to 50% in 25 minutes. Lastly, it has a side-facing fingerprint scanner for security, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

LML to start e-scooter production soon at former Indian Harley Davidson plant

LML, which was once a household name in the Indian two-wheeler market, recently announced its comeback in the Indian market by venturing into the electric mobility space. Now, the company has formed a strategic partnership with Saera Electric Auto which previously manufactured Harley Davidson motorcycles in India.

LML Star
LML Star

As per a report by RushLane, Saera’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bawal, Haryana will be used to produce the upcoming LML electric vehicles. This facility spans 217,800 square feet and has a production capacity of 18,000 units per month.

LML or Lohia Machines Limited has also been rebranded to LML Electric and is planning to make electric scooters for the upper-middle and urban segments of the society. This indicates that the company might be planning to compete against Ather and Ola Electric. It has also been reported that the company might launch battery-powered bikes as well.

LML CEO Dr. Yogesh Bhatia has also revealed that LML is aiming to transition into a 100 percent make-in-India in the coming years and has plans to invest Rs. 1000 crore ($134 million) in the next 5 years to achieve this vision. If everything goes as per what the company is planning, the first scooter from LML Electric is expected to roll out soon.

Competition in the Indian electric scooter market seems to be increasing by the day, with more and more companies announcing their entry into the two-wheeler EV segment. However, the variety of EVs available is just one side of the coin, as the infrastructure needed for widespread adoption still has a long way to go.

OnePlus 10R powered by Dimensity 9000 SoC to reportedly launch in Q2 2022

OnePlus has already launched its latest flagship smartphone in China — the OnePlus 10 Pro. The company is yet to bring the device to the global markets and the launch of the standard OnePlus 10 is also pending.

Amid this, there’s a new report which claims that the OPPO-backed company is now gearing up to launch a new variant of the smartphone, dubbed OnePlus 10R, sometime in the second quarter of this year.

OnePlus 9RT review featured

If the reports are to be believed, then the OnePlus 10R will come powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset. This is the same processor that is expected to power the upcoming OPPO Find X5 smartphone.

Based on the report from Android Central, the OnePlus 10 won’t be powered by the Dimensity 9000 because of its lack of mmWave connectivity support for 5G, which makes it unsuitable for the North American market.

As for the OnePlus 10R, the device R-suffix offering from the company is limited to the Asian markets, so it’s possible for OnePlus to use the Dimensity 9000 in this device.

It appears that OnePlus is now trying to use more MediaTek chips for its budget, mid-range, or upper mid-range offerings. Till 2021, the company was exclusively using Qualcomm Snapdragon chips but that changed last year with the Nord 2 launch.

As for the other specifications of the OnePlus 10R, the smartphone is expected to feature an AMOLED display that will offer a 120Hz refresh rate. Internally, it will pack at least 8GB of RAM and have 128GB of internal storage. More details are not yet available but we expect to know more in the coming weeks or months.
