According to a report by The Verge, at CES 2022, BMW has revealed their new Theatre Screen prototype. The entertainment system was built into a car which appeared to be their luxury Electric 7 Series.

The screen is fitted into the ceiling of the car which descends to give a comfortable viewing experience. TCL NxtWear Air

The embedded displays offer ample detail and punchy and vibrant colors paired with deep shadows and blacks. An expansive viewing environment is also created, equivalent to watching a 140-inch screen, 4 meters away – similar to being in a movie theatre.

Clarity is quite impressive too with 47 pixels-per-degree resolution. The audio is fired through dual speakers with support spatial effects. You can even connect your own wired or wireless headphones for a more private viewing experience.

Use cases include a secondary screen for professionals and students when paired with a laptop and a way to manage projects in public or during travel.

AirPods Pro 2 to launch in Q3 2022 as suppliers increase output: Report

Earlier this week we reported that the next-gen Apple AirPods Pro 2 said to launch around Q3 of 2022. Now, a report has surfaced suggesting the same.

airpods pro

According to a new report by Digitimes (via MacRumors), Apple suppliers are getting ready for shipments of the new high-end AirPods by scaling up their output capacity. This new information comes just days after credible Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed the launch timeline of the AirPods Pro 2, which according to him will hit the markets somewhere around October and December 2022.

Ming-Chi Kuo also expects the AirPods Pro 2 to come with Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) and if that happens, then it would be the first TWS earphones from the Cupertino-based tech giant to support lossless audio.

For those unaware, Lossless audio basically preserves all of the data in the original audio file which results in higher quality sound. All AirPods from the company launched so far use Bluetooth to deliver audio, which is limited to using Advanced Audio Codec (AAC), a loss-prone form of audio delivery. Apple‘s vice president of acoustics Gary Geaves also discussed this bandwidth problem in detail in a recent interview.

Additionally, the charging case of the AirPods Pro 2 could have support for emitting sound. This is to help find the charging case if it’s separated from the AirPods or has been misplaced by the user.

Currently, the AirPods themselves make a noise when trying to locate them via the Find My app. Further, Kuo adds that the earphones may undergo a redesign to focus more on fitness which could include a more rounded shape.

China bans digital music platforms from signing exclusive copyright deals

The copyright authority in China has just announced that digital music platforms are no longer allowed to sign exclusive copyright deals, apart from certain exceptions. The announcement was shared earlier this week and arrives as the latest efforts from Beijing to crackdown on digital companies.

China

According to a Reuters report, the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) shared the order on Thursday during a meeting in Beijing. Notably, this meeting included some major digital music platforms, along with other known record and songwriting copyright based firms. The move from the copyright authority is the latest efforts of Chinese regulators in cracking down on the nation’s tech industry. The steps from the Chinese government seek to address growing issues like monopolistic behavior, unfair competition and consumer rights, which has also been widely debated in western regions like Europe.

Just last year, Tencent Holdings announced that it had ended all exclusive music copyright deals following an order from the Chinese regulator. The intervention from the authorities arrived due to Tencent reportedly holding access to more than 80 percent of exclusive music libraries. In other words, it held an almost complete monopoly in the market and could leverage upstream copyright parties to restrict the entry of new players in the market.

China Flag

Unfortunately, it is unknown which companies were involved in this recent meeting, although, known brands like Xiaomi, China Mobile, and even Netease own popular streaming services in the Asian country, since global streaming services like Spotify are banned in Mainland China. NCAC added that “The talks emphasized that record companies, songwriting copyright companies and digital music platforms should … settle payment according to a guaranteed sum plus a share of actual usage, and should not sign exclusive copyright agreements except under special circumstances.”

If it will be the case, then the upcoming notebook from Realme will be way faster in comparison to the predecessor.

As of now, we aren’t aware of any of its specs, hence we’d have to wait for some concrete leaks to arrive on the Internet.

Samsung Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra may offer the brightest smartphone displays ever

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra display test results are out from the company’s own development labs and they align perfectly with the various leaks and rumors we have come across over the past few weeks.

Both models achieve peak brightness that’s higher than ever before. At a peak brightness of 1,750nits, the Galaxy phones’ displays beat not only beat their predecessors but are also easily one of the brightest around. The standard brightness level though, with auto-mode enabled, maxes out at 1,500nits (via SamMobile).

Galaxy-S22-plus-Ultra-brightness

For comparison, the latest and greatest from Apple — the iPhone 13 Pro Max — achieves ‘only’ 1000nits on High Bightness Mode and a peak brightness of 1200nits.

Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy S22 which is the first compact flagship from Samsung in years, will come with a 1000nits display. The Galaxy S21 offered the same, although the size this year is notably smaller at 6.06-inches.

Record-breaking brightness isn’t all that the Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra offer though as both devices also feature fantastic contrast ratios of 3,000,000:1. You get 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, meaning colors will be extra poppy, especially when viewing HDR-supporting content.

Moving on to display sizes, the Samsung Galaxy S22+ has a 6.55-inch panel while the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s display measures 6.81-inches. The latter’s ultra large display will go well with the S-Pen it is going to ship with.

Samsung will be unveiling both phones along with the vanilla S22 some time next month, although the exact date still remains suspenseful.

Apple is working on foldable iPhones, but we may never see it

Apple is apparently working on foldable iPhones. A tipster has revealed that the company is working on a number of iterations of a foldable iPhone prototype. But don’t get your hopes up, as the brand is still unsure about the new breed of smartphones.

The news arrives from known tipster Dylandkt who shared the information on Twitter. In a new thread, he revealed that the Cupertino based giant is working on multiple prototypes of iPhones with a foldable display. These prototypes are still being tested but Apple believes that there are too many ‘compromises’ with the foldable display technology. The issues don’t stop there, as the iPhone maker is also doubtful regarding the foldable phone market in general.

Apple

Apparently, the brand is concerned regarding whether the foldable handset segment is a market that will find its place in the industry, or eventually fall into “obsolescence.” In other words, Apple is unsure if foldable phones will stick around long enough and not just become a fad that dies out. So, the company is currently planning on carefully observing the market and avoid making the same mistakes that are were made by its rivals, as per Dylandkt.

Apple

Apple has been rumored to be working on a foldable iPhone for a while now. We have already covered a number of patents (1,2) from the company as well, which detail some of the possible designs. At the moment, it seems like the company will continue to work on perfecting the technology to avoid launching what Dylan calls “beta” products like its rival. But its still unknown if the brand will eventually compete in this particular segment of the smartphone market.

But perhaps the best part of the limited edition Year of the Tiger protective cases for the Huawei P50 series is that they come with a special metal ring around the camera module that can be pulled out and used as a stand to rest the phone on.

The metal ring also appears to provide an ample raise to the cameras so that they do not touch the surface when the phone is placed on its back. It also adds a touch of class as it’s colored lustrous gold.

Both cases add to the collection of pre-existing art-themed protective cases available for the Huawei P50 series in a number of colors and unique designs. All of the covers adopt a four-edge protective design that protects the screen against drops.

iPhone SE 2022 will be an iPhone 8 with 5G, updated specs: Analyst

The next smartphone from Apple is said to be a budget model with 5G connectivity. This handset is expected to be called iPhone SE 2022. It will be the successor of the iPhone SE 2020, which is limited to 4G. A lesser-known Apple analyst re-iterates the features of this device, which have been under the rumor mill for a while now.

Apple iPhone SE 2020
Apple iPhone SE 2020

According to Dylan (@dylandkt), the upcoming iPhone SE will not be what he tipped last January. Instead, it will be nothing but a spec upgrade for the current-gen iPhone SE 2020.

He says that the new iPhone SE will be similar to the model available right now in terms of design. However, it will arrive with better specs and 5G connectivity.
