Honor Magic Fold 5G render leaks online; expected to launch in Q1 2022

Honor has been actively launching new devices in the market ever since it became an independent brand by splitting from Huawei. After launching a few premium devices, the company is now aiming to step up its game with foldable phones.

It’s been a few months since reports about Honor foldable smartphones started surfacing online. Now, in the latest development, a render of the upcoming Honor Magic Fold 5G smartphone has leaked online.

Honor Magic Fold 5G Render Leak

In terms of design, the upcoming foldable smartphone from Honor looks similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. The company is reportedly going to launch another foldable device that will have a clamshell form factor.

Based on the recent trademark filing from the company, it plans to launch Honor Magic Fold as well as Honor Magic Wing smartphones in the market. When launched, the devices will compete against similar phones from brands like Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, and more.

It is rumored that the Honor Magic Fold will come with an 8-inch display, offering a screen resolution of 2200 x 2480 pixels. Under the hood, it will come powered by an octa-core processor with one Cortex A-77 core running at 3.13GHz, three Cortex A-77 cores running at 2.54GHz, and four Cortex A-55 cores running at 2.05GHz.

The device is said to pack 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The render shows a rear camera with a 108-megapixel primary camera sensor while on the front side, it could have a 16-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The phone is said to come with the Android 11 operating system but we expect the device to have Android 12 by the time it launches. It will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery with support for fast charging technology.

The launch of foldable smartphones could further help Honor boost its market share in its home country China. The brand has already captured a 15 percent market share, becoming the third-largest smartphone company in China, followed by Vivo and OPPO.

Samsung to reportedly launch 8K MiniLED and 4K OLED TVs in 2022

The lineup of high-end TVs from Samsung in 2022 will include 8K MiniLED and 4K OLED TVs according to sources. These premium products are driven by some immersive technologies being developed by the Korean tech powerhouse. The 8K MiniLED TV will be the highest among the lineup and will carry the Neo QLED TV brand.Samsung

Samsung’s MicroLED TVs are on the high end of the spectrum but the company only produces very few units to meet demand from its clientele on the top echelon of the market. They are yet to be produced in the numbers that would scale down to other segments, although this may be an economic decision. The 8K Neo QLED TV is on the highest tier, followed by the 4K OLED TVs. The display technology for the Neo QLED is to be provided by Samsung Display and it is believed that the OLED technology is capable of offering 8K resolution, although Samsung is limiting the OLED to 4K which will be produced by LG Display.

The Neo QLED 4K is also part of the lineup of TVs for 2022. Samsung is projecting to sell 3 million units of the 8K QLED and up to 2 million of the 4K models. Samsung is currently in talks with LG Display to procure up to 2 million units of the W-OLED 4K panels in pursuit of its sales goals. It is expected that the cheaper OLED TVs could have higher demand than the QLED, although it remains to be seen what marketing strategy is in place to drive the company’s expectations.Samsung Neo QLED TV

Samsung is also developing its capacity to produce OLED panels from its display arm, Samsung Display. To this end, the Samsung-LG collaboration will most likely terminate by 2024 when Samsung would have started producing these panels.

Three more engineers leave the Apple Car project to join a startup: Report

For about a year, Apple’s much-anticipated project for its first fully autonomous car has been in the trends. The Apple Car is reportedly one of the most contingent projects for the company and it has seen major vicissitudes. Earlier, a few engineers working on the Car project left the company to join startups. Now, as per Bloomberg, three more engineers have reportedly left the company.

Eric Rogers, the one heading the car’s radar system has left the company to join the flying-taxi startup Joby Aviation Inc. Alex Clarabut and Stephen Spiteri, two Apple engineers responsible for the project have also joined the same flying-taxi startup.

Apple Car

Reportedly, Apple’s upcoming Car project has been bedevilling the company’s engineers, and as more engineers leave the company the project is expected to see a lot of uncertainties. Although for a Californian giant like Apple, it is swift to bring new employees, still seeing multiple people leave the company does show the coercion around the fully autonomous car project.

Nonetheless, Apple Car, internally called “Project Titan” will surely get a launch as it passes several pilots in its making. However, for the public, there’s no information regarding its specifications. The Apple Car is expected to be announced by 2025.

Iconic Nokia Ion Mini canceled in 2014 appears on Twitter

In the wake of the 2014 takeover of Nokia by Microsoft, some products under development were canceled. These included the Nokia Ion Mini (RM-1028) which has now resurfaced. The concept of the design was for a colorful smartphone with a vivid color scheme and projected to run on the Android operating system before Microsoft pulled the plug on its rollout in 2014.

Nokia Ion Mini
Nokia Ion Mini

Thanks to tipster Dimitrios Vlachos, some photos of the Nokia Ion Mini were shared in addition to video content. The Nokia RM-1027 was berthed in 2014 before the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft. The expectation then was that the successor to the Nokia RM-1027 would also run on the Android-like operating system. But this was not to be as Nokia migrated to producing Windows phones and the Nokia RM-1028 known as the Nokia Ion Mini was canceled.

The tipster outlined several features of the rested device as could be seen in the video and photos. The Ion Mini was a simple device that could have been affordably priced. It had a classic small display, one camera at the back. The Nokia Ion Mini was running on the nauOS which is a hybrid Nokia OS. The nauOS was utilized in a few of the Nokia offerings and the video and photos indicated that the device was powered by Qualcomm MSM8226 chipset or Snapdragon 400.

The tipster is also promising more videos and photos of some of the other canceled Nokia phones due to its acquisition by Microsoft in 2014. It is unclear where these details are emanating from. It is also not clear whether any of these canceled phones have found their way outside Nokia.

Design

If you are looking for the design with the most premium materials, then you should choose the Xiaomi 11T Pro. It has a glass back, an aluminum frame, and a front glass protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Besides having a more premium design, it is even more resistant thanks to Gorilla Glass Victus and the IP53 certification which indicates that the phone is dust resistant and splash resistant. The Motorola Edge X30 comes right after with its glass back and water-repellent design, but the OnePlus 9RT 5G is actually the most compact and the thinnest handset because it has a smaller display and a smaller battery.

Display

On the paper, the most advanced display belongs to the Xiaomi 11T Pro. It has an AMOLED panel by Samsung with a diagonal of 6.67 inches, a Full HD+ resolution, one billion colors, a 120 Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and the HDR10+ certification. The phone is also equipped with stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon. Right after, we got the Motorola Edge X30 packing a 6.7-inch OLED display with one billion colors, a (higher!) 144 Hz refresh rate, a Full HD+ resolution, and the HDR10+ certification. The OnePlus 9RT 5G comes with an AMOLED screen as well, but it displays a max of 16 million colors. On the other hand, it is the only one with an in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

With the Motorola Edge X30, you can get the most powerful hardware department in the whole smartphone market. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform offering a solid improvement in performance if compared to the Snapdragon 888, paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Both Xiaomi 11T Pro and OnePlus 9RT 5G are fueled by the Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. The Motorola Edge X30 runs Android 12 out of the box, while its rivals are still based on Android 11.

Camera

The Motorola Edge X30 offers a way more interesting camera setup. It has a 50 MP main camera with OIS, a 50 MP secondary ultrawide camera, a 2 MP depth sensor, and an amazing 60 MP front camera. The Motorola Edge X30 Special Edition has an under-display selfie snapper. The silver medal goes to the OnePlus 9RT 5G and its 50 MP main camera with OIS paired with a 16 MP ultrawide sensor and a 2 MP macro camera.

Battery

Motorola Edge X30 should provide the longest battery life due to its 5000 mAh battery and its efficient mobile platform, followed by the Xiaomi 11T Pro. But the latter supports a faster charging technology with a power of 120W.

Price

You need just €420/$475 to purchase the Motorola Edge X30 in China, while the OnePlus 9RT 5G starts from €440/$517. The Motorola Edge X30 wins the comparison thanks to its better chipset and cameras: we believe it currently offers a higher value for money.

PUBG PC will be free to play from Next year

Back in 2017, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds took the gaming community by storm. The game offered a battle royale experience on the computer platform for a price of Rs. 1,499(~$20). But, now, the creative director of Krafton has confirmed that PUBG will be soon free-to-play.

According to Dave Curd, the creative director, PlayerUnknow’s Battleground a.k.a PUBG will be free-to-play for the PC platform. The game is touted to be free-to-play from January 12 2022. It is already up for pre-registrations and the game copy will have most of the elements free. But, some elements including ranked matchmaking will be paid.

PUBG

The ranked matchmaking and other elements can be unlocked by paying a one-time fee of $12.99(~Rs. 982). This fee will essentially be an account upgrade for the game. It will unlock features like custom match modes, special in-game items, and others.

According to reports, earlier, PUBG was one of the most popular games ever with over 75 million copies sold. However, it seemed to be losing grip from the audience and to get it back, PUBG may have decided to make it free-to-play.

Redmi Note 11 4G Global Variant may feature Snapdragon 680, new design: Tipster

After the Chinese launch a couple of weeks ago, Redmi plans to launch its Redmi Note 11 4G variant globally. But the phone might not be the same as the Chinese variant, as revealed by a tipster.

According to a report by ThePixel, an unnamed source has revealed that the Redmi Note 11 4G global variant will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 chipset, rather than the MediaTek Helio G88 SoC that’s in the Chinese version. The reason for this move is speculated to be a shortage of stock of MediaTek chips in Xiaomi’s production facilities.

But this is not the only difference from the Chinese version. As we have reported earlier, the Redmi Note 11 series will not follow the ‘flat edges’ design for the global launch of their smartphones. Well, this applies to the Note 11 4G too. The smartphone is expected to follow a more traditional Redmi Note design for the body and edges.

Additionally, the tipster has also hinted at the price of the global variant, which can be expected to be around $199, making this phone highly affordable.

That said, other features of the Redmi Note 11 4G are expected to be the same as the Chinese version that carries a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD display that offers a 90Hz refresh rate, a 180Hz touch sampling rate and a 1,500:1 aspect ratio. The Chinese version is powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 chipset, coupled with 4/6 GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB storage.

In the camera department, the phone has a triple-camera setup on the back that consists of a 50-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 120-degree FOV, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. On the front side, there’s an 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The device runs the MIUI 12.5 operating system which is based on Android 11. For connectivity, it supports dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, IR blaster, dual stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging and 9W reverse charging.
