JioPhone Next Play Console listing spotted with key specs

Jio Phone Next was announced in June through India-based Reliance Jio’s 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM). At that time, the company claimed that it will be made available in the market on September 10thv. However, the company released a statement last month to say that it will be available for purchase in time for the Diwali festive season, which suggested that it could be released in the Indian market by October end or early November. While the company confirmed some of the key features of the JioPhone Next, it did not reveal any specifications. Now, the handset has appeared at the Google Play Console with some of its key specs.

The Jio Phone Next’s Play Console listing shows that its display carries support for an HD resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 215 mobile platform and 2 GB of RAM. It runs on Android 11, which appears to be the Go edition.

Past reports have claimed that the JioPhone Next has a 5.5-inch display, an 8-megapixel selfie camera, and a 13-megapixel rear snapper. The 2 GB RAM variant of the device may offer 16 GB of storage, whereas the 3 GB RAM model may come with 32 GB of storage. The phone may house a 2,500mAh battery.

Google starts rolling out Android 12 stable version to Pixel smartphones

Earlier this month, Google officially announced the stable version of the Android 12 operating system for the smartphone. However, unlike the previous version, this time, Google didn’t roll out the latest update to its own smartphones nor did the company announce a timeline for the same.

But now, after officially launching the latest Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones in the market, the technology giant has also started rolling out the Android 12 update to the Pixel series of smartphones.

Android 12 featured

It’s noteworthy that the latest Pixel 6 lineup already comes pre-installed with the latest Android 12 OS. The rollout of this new update for other devices comes after the company released the final Beta 5 version of Android last month.

While the latest Android 12 comes with several new features and functionalities, one of the major changes comes in the form of the revamped interface. This time, the company is using the new Material You user interface.

Apart from the new design, the latest version of the operating system also comes with new widgets and notification design, privacy dashboard and security enhancements, scrolling screenshots, Nearby share, and more. For a detailed list of features available with Android 12, check out this article.

Earlier, Google had revealed that the Android 12 update will be made available for devices from companies like Samsung, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi later this year. Some of these brands have already announced their own custom user interfaces based on the latest Android 12, including ColorOS 12 from OPPO and One UI 4.0 from the South Korean giant Samsung.

There’s more than just a camera in the MacBook Pro’s notch

The new MacBook Pro laptops have a notch, a design that was copied from the iPhone series. However, unlike the iPhones whose notch houses not only a front-facing camera but other components for Face ID, the notch on the MacBook Pro doesn’t have components for a biometric scanner. So why is it there and why is it that wide? Actually, there are a couple of other components alongside the 1080p webcam.

A photo has surfaced on the web and it is of the camera module for the Macbook Pro. Posted by Twitter user David Pogue (@Pogue), the photo shows that there is more than just a 1080p camera on the module.

As seen in the photo, there is a component flanking the 1080p camera on the left while an LED is on the right. The component on the left is the TrueTone and ambient light sensors. The former measures ambient light color and brightness and uses the information to automatically adjust the white balance of the display to match the environment. Apple‘s TrueTone technology made its debut on the 2016 iPad Pro and is now available on the iPhones and MacBooks.

The light sensor adjusts the brightness of the display as well as the keyboard’s backlight based on ambient light while the LED on the right of the camera is the camera indicator light that comes on when the camera is in use. All of these components were previously “hidden” by the bezel but are now visible since it has trimmed the bezels for more screen estate.

If Apple were to include the components for Face ID, the notch will be a bit wider. It has been able to shrink the Face ID module on the iPhone 13 series by moving the dot projector from the edge to the middle and combining it with the flood illuminator into a single module. So along with that and the infrared camera, that’s two more components to add to the existing ones on the MacBook Pro.

Sure, it could pack Face ID into the MacBook Pro and keep the bezel but with the bezel significantly reduced, the area occupied by this module now digs into the screen.

iPad 9 vs iPad Mini 6: Specs Comparison

Recently Apple launched two brand new tablets for those who want to save money instead of going for those powerful iPad Pros with Apple Silicon M1. We are talking about the 9th generation of the Apple iPad 10.2 which is actually the most affordable last-generation tablet by Apple, and the new iPad Mini 6 providing high-end specifications in a very compact body. The iPad Mini 6 is smaller but more expensive, however, it can still be considered a “budget tablet” by Apple. Are you wondering which one is the best for you? This comparison between the specifications of Apple iPad 9th gen and Apple iPad Mini 6th gen should clear your ideas in regards.

Design

The Apple iPad Mini 6th gen has probably the best design ever seen on a tablet. It is very compact, it has a very high screen to body ratio, it is very thin and very lightweight. The bezels around the display are narrow and the borders are flat, just like the most recent iPhones. On the other hand, the Apple iPad 9th gen has a very old design: the bezels around the display are so thick that there is space for the old Touch ID. Nothing changed if we compare it to the previous 8th gen Apple iPad in terms of aesthetics, but the new model retains a great build quality just like the iPad Mini 6th gen. Both the tablets are entirely made of aluminum.

Display

The only important differences between the displays of Apple iPad 9th gen and Apple iPad Mini 6th gen are the size and the pixel density. The Apple iPad 9th gen has a wider display with a diagonal of 10.2 inches, while the iPad Mini 6th gen has a diagonal of just 8.3 inches and it is the smallest tablet by Apple. The pixel density is higher on the iPad Mini 6th gen because it has a smaller display, but the resolutions are similar. Both are Retina IPS LCD panels with a 500 nit typical brightness and scratch-resistant glass. Do not expect big differences when it comes to image quality. These tablets do have fingerprint readers, but in different positions: the iPad 9th gen has the Touch ID below the display just like the older iPads, while the iPad Mini 6th gen has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the power key. You can connect a stylus and a keyboard to these tablets, but while the iPad Mini 6th gen allows using 2nd gen Apple Pencil, you can use only the first generation with the iPad 9th gen.

Specs & Software

If you are looking for the strongest hardware department, then go for the iPad Mini 6th gen without thinking twice. It is fueled by the Apple A15 Bionic mobile platform built at 5 nm: the same chipset as the iPhone 13 series, paired with 4 GB of RAM and either 64 GB or 256 GB of native storage depending on the chosen variant. With the Apple iPad 9th gen, you get an Apple A13 Bionic chipset which is the same as the iPhone 11 series, as well as 3 GB of RAM and 64 or 256 GB of native storage. The performance boost you can get with the iPad Mini 6th gen is very important. The handsets run iPadOS 15 out of the box with all the latest new features.

Camera

The iPad Mini 6th gen is a better camera phone for a simple reason: it provides an upgraded rear camera. On the rear, it has a 12 MP sensor with a bright f/1.8 focal aperture, while the iPad 9th gen has an old 8 MP sensor with an f/2.4 focal aperture. The front cameras are the same: 12 MP f/2.4 sensors with 1080p video recording at 60 fps. The iPad mini 6th gen is the only one that can record 4K videos at 60 fps.

Battery

Given that the iPad 9th gen is bigger, it has room for a bigger battery and that is the reason why its battery life is longer. Alongside the price and the display size, this is the only big advantage of the iPad 9th gen over the iPad Mini 6.

Price

The 9th gen iPad has a starting price of $329, while the iPad mini 6th gen starts from $499. Does it make sense to spend more? If you want to get better performance, a superior camera, and more compact dimensions, yes it does.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Maison Kitsune Limited Edition reportedly in the works

A tipster has released some images of three additional color variants of the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2. Tipster @FrontTron was the first person to publish images of the three new color variants of the Galaxy Buds 2 namely Absolute Black, Maison Kitsune, and Vivid Lemon. The Maison Kitsune Edition of the Galaxy Buds 2 is designed in a shade of pastel green and sports the Kitsune graphics (Kitsune is a Japanese word that means fox).

Maison Kitsuné is a French-Japanese fashion label and also an electronic music record. The Maison Kitsuné brand was created in 2002 by the trio of Loaëc, Kuroki, and Åbäke (graphic design collective). There is a high likelihood that the Galaxy Buds 2 Maison Kitsune variant could be a limited edition version.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 was part of the lineup in August 2021 when the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 were unveiled. The initial launch of the earbuds was in four color variants namely: Graphite, Lavender, Olive, and White. The new additional color variants, if confirmed, follow the trajectory of the Galaxy Buds+.

As per the tipster, Samsung could announce new color variants of the Galaxy Buds 2 alongside the new Galaxy Z Flip 3 colors during the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked 2021 Part 2 event. As of now, there is no information about the pricing or availability of these new color variants. Samsung could provide some confirmation of the leak as the scheduled Galaxy Unpacked event draws closer.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro launch with a refreshed design, Tensor chip, and a $599 starting price

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are Google’s new smartphones and they come with significant upgrades in all areas. From a revamped design to better cameras to Google’s first mobile processor and software that is designed to take advantage of the hardware for a smooth experience, Google claims its new phones bring big upgrades.

Pixel 6 series display

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro specifications

The Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch FHD+ Smooth Display with a 90Hz refresh rate while the Pixel 6 Pro packs a bigger 6.7-inch screen with a QHD+ LTPO display and a 120Hz refresh rate. The two phones have Gorilla Glass Victus on the front for protection against scratches while the Pixel 6 swaps Gorrila Glass Victus for Gorilla Glass 6 for the glass back.

Pixel 6 series design

The Tensor processor is Google’s first smartphone chipset. The SoC has 2 high-performance cores, 2 mid-cores, and 4 high-efficiency cores. It also has a 20-core GPU. Compared to the Pixel 5 which has a Snapdragon 765G processor, Google says the Tensor chipset has a CPU performance that is 80% faster and a GPU performance that is 370% faster. The chip is paired with 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage on the Pixel 6 Pro while the Pixel 6 has 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. As expected, there is no storage expansion.

The Pixel 6 series both have an in-display fingerprint scanner and a Titan M2 security chip. The Tensor chip also has a security core built-in that works with the Titan M2 to protect the phones against attacks. They have dual SIM support (one nano-SIM and one eSIM), WiFi 6E, stereo speakers, IP68 water and dust resistance, and a fingerprint-resistant coating.

There is a 5003mAh battery inside the Pixel 6 Pro and a 4614mAh battery inside the Pixel 6. The two devices support 30W fast wired charging, fast wireless charging (21W on the Pixel 6 and 23W on the Pixel 6 Pro using the Pixel Stand), and reverse wireless charging. They don’t ship with a charger but if you have a USB-PD compatible charger available, that should be fine. You can also charge wirelessly with a Qi-certified EPP charger but the charging speed will be capped at 12W.

The Pixel 6 series will run Android 12 out of the box and will receive 5 years of security updates.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro cameras

There is a 50MP main camera on both phones as well as a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide angle camera with a 114° field of view. The 50MP sensor has an 82° field of view, an f/1.85 aperture, and a 1/1.31” sensor size. Google says that the phones capture 2.5x more light than the Pixel 5. The Pixel 6 Pro gets a third rear camera – a 48MP sensor with a telephoto lens that brings 4x optical zoom. The front-facing camera is an 11.1MP sensor on the pro model and an 8MP sensor on the non-pro variant.

Pixel 6 series camera features

The Pixel phones are known for packing impressive cameras thanks to the software. The Pixel 6 series takes the Pixel camera prowess to a new level with features such as Face Unblur which combines photos from two different cameras to remove the blur on faces when you take photos of fast-moving subjects such as kids. Magic Eraser will remove unwanted objects and persons from your photo.

There is also Motion Mode which detects if there is a fast-moving object in a photo such as a moving vehicle or the wheels of a bicycle and applies a motion blur to the object while keeping the subject sharp and in focus. The most important of them all for people of color is Real Tone which is a better image algorithm that authentically replicates the skin tone of the subject.

Pixel 6 Series Price and Availability

The Pixel 6 is priced at $599 for the 128GB version and $699 for the 256GB version while the Pixel 6 Pro is priced at $899 for the 128GB version. The 256GB and 512GB versions are not listed in the U.S. The two phones are already available for pre-order now and will be available for purchase on October 28.

The Pixel 6 will be available in Sorta Seafoam, Kinda Coral, and Stormy Black while the Pixel 6 Pro can be purchased in Cloudy White, Sorta Sunny, and Stormy Black. Those who pre-order in the U.S. get a free Pixel Buds A-Series.

Huawei Mate X2 5G will get a leather version with HarmonyOS pre-installed

The Huawei Mate X2 foldable phone was launched earlier this year as the third foldable smartphone from the manufacturer. When it was announced, it was released in four colors, all of which have a glass back. A new report says Huawei is planning the release of a variant with a leather back.

Huawei Mate X2 featured

According to the Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, the Huawei Mate X2 will get a plain leather version. Unfortunately, he didn’t state what color the leather will be.

Apart from having a leather-clad back, the new variant will have a Kirin 9000 5G processor and run HarmonyOS out of the box. If this doesn’t sound like news, it actually is. The Huawei Mate X2 5G launched with EMUI 11 based on Android 10 out of the box. Huawei also announced a 4G version of the phone with the same processor but it runs HarmonyOS 2 out of the box. Save for these differences, the rest of the specs remain unchanged.

The Huawei Mate X2 has a 6.45-inch 90Hz cover display with a pill-shaped cut-out that houses a single 16MP front-facing camera. The foldable display is 8 inches and also has a 90Hz refresh rate. Both screens are OLED.

The Kirin 9000 processor is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. There is a NanoMemory card slot for adding up to an extra 256GB of storage.

On the back of the phone are four cameras – a 50MP main sensor with PDAF and OIS, a 12MP sensor with OIS, PDAF, and a telephoto lens for 3x optical zoom, an 8MP sensor with a periscope telephoto lens for 10x optical zoom, and a 16MP sensor with an ultrawide angle lens. It also has a 4500mAh battery, support for 55W fast charging, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, and an IR blaster.

We do not know when this leather version will be announced but it may cost a bit more than the versions with a glass back.

Li Nan’s start-up Angry Miao launches the Cyberboard R3 wireless Keyboard

Former Meizu VP Li Nan last year floated his own start-up last year known as Angry Miao Technology. One of the major business concerns of the firm is the manufacture of computer accessories including mechanical keyboards. Angry Miao Cyberboard R3 Mechanical Keyboard

The brand has unveiled a new wireless mechanical keyboard dubbed Angry Miao Cyberboard R3. The keyboard is designed to have an amazing aesthetic appeal apart from ergonomics which is a key feature of mechanical keyboards. To be candid, the wireless keyboard adopts a retro-styled design with prominent keys and a slight elevation which removes the need for a tilting stand.

The keyboard comes in four attractive colors — Pink, Green, White and Black colors. Of course, the pink hue is targeted at the female folks but may likely be appealing to males as well considering the divergent colors that some of the key sets get. The new color scheme is said to have been inspired by Wes Anderson, an American filmmaker better known for his deployment of symmetry, eccentricity, and distinctive visuals in his films.

Furthermore, the Cyberboard R3 features a customizable lighting effect, new RGB hardware as well as 256-level DC dimming. The keyboard is also scratch-resistant and has an electronic display at the back which shows the battery level. The keyboard charges via a USB-C port.Cyberboard R3 wireless Keyboard

As for the prices, the three color options of Pink, Green, and Black will retail for 3,600 yuan (~$564) while the white variant is priced at 3,900 yuan (~$611). For now, the keyboard is available in China only but we expect Li Nan’s startup to make inroads into other markets soon.

The curious case of Realme GT Neo 2T in China

The world’s fastest-growing smartphone brand Realme has a habit of releasing new handsets every other week. The company is no stranger to rebranded products, either. But today, the brand has done something really weird and traditionally unheard of. It seems to have relaunched an existing model in the same market with huge fanfare.

realme GT NEO2T Black White Featured A
realme GT NEO2T

A few hours back, Realme launched a new phone in China called the Realme GT Neo 2T (stylized as realme GT NEO2T). With both the Realme GT Neo 2 and 2T present in the same market, things were getting too confusing for the average consumer.

So we decided to take a closer look at the newly launched model. Surprisingly, after careful analysis, we have come to the conclusion that this device is nothing but a realme GT NEO with a glass back and a new name.

Chinese handset maker Realme had been teasing the launch of Realme GT Neo 2T for the past few days as if it was a brand-new smartphone. The brand even held a full-blown press event to unveil this phone.

These actions made us believe that the device was indeed a new model. But turns out, it isn’t.

Initially, we were confused as to why the Realme GT Neo 2T sports a different design when compared to Realme GT Neo 2. We got even more skeptical when we compared the specifications in detail. Neither the specs nor the design suggested that both these handsets were part of the same lineup/generation.

Then, as we started comparing the new phone with the previously released devices, we hit a home run. Upon closer observation, we can, for sure, confirm that the Realme GT Neo 2T is a Realme GT Neo (review) in disguise.

Realme GT Neo Realme GT Neo 2T
realme GT NEO (left) and realme GT NEO2T (right)

Earlier this year, realme replaced the Realme X series with the introduction of the Realme GT lineup but confirmed it only in August. The first model in the lineup was simply called the Realme GT (stylized as realme GT 5G). The same model was launched worldwide.

The original GT smartphone from March 2021 was soon followed by a new model called Realme GT Neo (stylized as realme GT NEO) in the same month. The newer device later made its way to India in the form of the Realme X7 Max at the end of May.

Now, almost seven months after its initial debut, Realme has re-released this handset in a new avatar. It is called Realme GT Neo 2T and has a glass back instead of plastic.

The name and the rear finish are the only major differences between the two products. In fact, even their dimensions are identical (158.5 x 73.3 x 8.4mm).

Realme GT Neo Highlights
Full Specifications

If we talk about minor changes between these two models, there are things like charging speed and chipset. The original Realme GT Neo only supported 50W fast charging, compared to 65W on the Realme GT Neo 2T. But interestingly, there’s a variant of the GT Neo which has these missing features. If you recall, around late May, Realme had launched a new variant called Realme GT Neo Flash Edition with 65W fast charging in China.

As far as silicon is concerned, both Realme GT Neo and Realme GT Neo 2T house a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC inside, However, the chipset on the latter model has some optimizations made possible through ‘Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture’. Hence, it is known as Dimensity 1200-AI, just like the silicon powering the OnePlus Nord 2.

Coming to the price, despite being the same phone, the Realme GT Neo 2T is costlier than the Reame GT Neo. If the new product was announced alongside the original, we would have been fine with the price as it offers a premium matte glass finish.

Realme GT Neo 2T Highlights
Full Specifications

However, seven months later, it does not make sense when we know that this is the exact same handset. It even runs the same old Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11. So it will be also receiving identical software support (2 Android updates). Just because Realme advertises Realme GT Neo 2T as a brand-new phone, it doesn’t make it one.

At the end of the day, we have to agree that Realme is good at doing business. It knows how to target customers and market products. Though the realme GT Neo 2T is a rebadged smartphone from a few months ago, the company presents it in such a way that no one seems to remember that it’s nearly the same phone from seven months ago.

HP Projector CC200 bundled with an 84-inch screen and Roku Express launched

Renowned PC maker Hewlett Packard better known as HP has launched the Projector CC200, a portable projector with a LED light source and some excellent features. The projector is licensed to GAC Technology Group, a leading designer and manufacturer of innovative smart projection solutions. So, it is not directly manufactured by HP.HP Projector CC200

The HP Projector CC200 provides a cheaper option than some of the models it is bound to compete with. It is a bedside or coffee table-type device with some relatively short-throw/big-screen display potentials. The projector offers full HD resolution with 200 lumens light source. It also features two 3W speaker-system and can produce an image of up to 80-inch at a distance of 2.1 meters.HP Projector CC200

At the back of the CC200 are two USB slots, an HDMI and a 3.5mm audio-out jack. The projector is however lacking in wireless technology or smart functionality. It is however possible to pair the CC200 with a streaming stick which is available as a bundle in the US. The lifetime of the projector is estimated at 20,000 hours with a 1.2:1 throw ratio.HP Projector CC200

DJI Mavic 3, Action 2 camera, and RC Pro smart controller certified by US FCC

Days back, some renders of the DJI Mavic 3 drone revealed a more powerful battery system that will expand its flight time significantly. In an indication that the eventual unveiling of the products is imminent, the Mavic 3 consumer drone and Action 2 waterproof camera have entered the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) database.DJI Mavic 3 FCC

The FCC is the clearinghouse for all issues relating to certification and issuance of unique codes to companies to identify wireless products in the market. The rigorous process involves several stages culminating in the issuance of the FCC code. The DJI Mavic 3 drone has an FCC code of SS3-L2P2104. As per the FCC filings, it is likely that two models are on the offing: the L2A, which is the DJI Mavic 3, and the L2P, which refers to DJI Mavic 3 Cine version.

We can confirm the earlier leak as per the battery of the DJI Mavic 3. It is a 15.4 V, 5,000 mAH, 77 Wh battery. Up to 46 minutes of flight time is assured on the Mavic 3, which has some far-reaching implications on its applicability. It will be one of the strong marketing points for the Mavic 3.

DJI Action 2 camera has FCC ID: 2ANDR-MC2112021 and is the latest action camera from DJI. It could be released as early as October 27. The DJI Action 2 camera will possibly come with a 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor and an aperture of f/2.8, for up to 155-degree wide view. The camera will feature a new modular design and make filming more immersive with an array of accessories. The Action 2 will support a wireless pad although the details are lacking at this time.

The new smart controller also sighted in the FCC database is the RC Pro. It is designed to maximize the functionality of the Mavic 3 or any other compatible drone that is equipped with DJI’s proprietary video transmission system, OcuSync 3.0.

The RC Pro would allow the Mavic 3 to transmit HD video in real-time up to a distance of 15km and is available with the Cine version of the drone.

The DJI Mavic 3 and the RC Pro controller could be launched on November 5.

Xiaomi shares jump 5% following announcement about producing own electric cars in 2024

Lei Jun, CEO of Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi, on Tuesday revealed that the company is expected to mass produce its own electric cars in the first half of 2024. The comments were made at an investor event and were later confirmed by the company.

Right after the news, Xiaomi’s shares in Hong Kong jumped over 5% (via: CNBC).

xiaomi corp stock

The company’s previous major announcement regarding its new venture was made back in March where it had said that it plans to invest $10 billion into the business over the next 10 years. These plans were solidified last month when Xiaomi officially registered its electric vehicle business Xiaomi EV Inc. The novel company now has 300 employees and Lei Jun himself leads the group.

The Chinese market’s potential for electric vehicles is boundless. With incentives such as almost every fifth new car registered last month being rechargeable in the country, new players have been making their way into the market, which has now gotten more crowded than ever. Recently, even Chinese search giant Baidu launched an electric car company of its own in January, hiring a CEO for the business a month later.

When Xiaomi launches its own electric cars in 2024, it will be facing competition from companies like BYD, Nio, and Xpeng as well as from the American Tesla.

China’s electric vehicle market has had favorable government support over the last few years which helped the industry grow. While some of that support has been reduced, the market is still growing.

Over the last few years, China’s electric car sector has benefited from favorable government assistance, which has aided the industry’s growth. That backing may have dwindled but the market continues to grow. According to market research firm Canalys, 1.9 million electric vehicles will be sold in China in 2021, up 51% year on year.
