Intel 12th Gen Alder Lake T-Series 35W chips to hit 4.9 GHz: Report

Intel is set to unveil its 12th Generation Alder Lake processors in Fall 2021. The company had unveiled the upcoming CPUs back in August. Now, we have new information regarding the 12th Gen’s T series chipsets.

Intel

According to FanlessTech (Via TomsHardware), the American chip making giant’s latest T series of processors will feature a robust clock speed. For those unaware, the company’s K series of processors are usually the high performance CPUs, although now, it seems that the T series might also have some surprising potential in terms of performance despite being low power consumption based chipsets. The Alder Lake CPUs are the latest hybrid desktop chip that features the Golden Cove and Gracemont cores.

The former is responsible for undertaking intensive workloads while the latter is meant to handle day to day tasks. As per the report, The Core i9-12900T allegedly features the same 8+8 configuration as the Core i9-12900K. However, the T variant features 4.9Ghz boost clock, which is just 300MHz lower than the K series version. But, the T model will likely have a much lower base clock. Similarly, the Core i7-12700T will reportedly feature a 4.7 GHz boost clock, while the Core i7-12700K hits 5GHz.

Keep in mind that the K series is high performance chips that have power draws that can easily reach four times higher than the 35W TDP rating of the T series chips. Previous rumors have pointed at a late November launch for Alder Lake, but FanlessTech believes that the T series chips might arrive even later, in early 2022. So stay tuned for more updates.

Google Android 12.1 brings improved foldable phone experience ahead of Pixel Fold

Google is preparing for the next big Android update that is apparently set to launch on October 4. This major update would bring improvements to foldable phones experience, which likely arrives ahead of the launch of the company’s rumored Pixel Fold smartphone.

Google

According to an XDADevelopers report, the search engine giant’s Android 12 will be one of the biggest update to the Android platforms in years. Furthermore, the report added that additional information about its subsequent Android 12.1 update has also surfaced. This new update would also include enhancements to the foldable phone experience. The next release is Android 12 sc-v2, which XDA calls Android 12.1. In the recent Android 12 Developer Preview 2, XDA managed to uncover a hidden “taskbar” feature in the Pixel launcher.

This appears at the bottom of the screen where the navigation bar usually can be found. The UI in question showcases a handful of your frequently used applications and recently used apps as well. This taskbar was being developed for devices with large screens like tablets, which improves multitasking functionality that utilizes the bigger screen real estate. For those unaware, Google is rumored to launch the Pixel Fold later this year.

Keep in mind that this is just a speculation that the company is bringing the new feature specifically for the Pixel Fold. Although, one of the code changes implementing the new taskbar’s tutorial showcases in image of the feature in action. In the image, we can observe two different instanced of Chrome browser being used side by side. This is apparently still in testing and divides the foldable phone in half with a line in the middle for clear distinction.

Xiaomi Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra receive Android 12-based MIUI Beta update

Back in July, Xiaomi started testing Android 12-based MIUI builds for some of its devices. Two months later, three of those handsets have now begun to receive the Android 12 software builds in the MIUI Closed Beta channel. These three phones are nothing but the Xiaomi Mi 11 series.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro Review 15
Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11

According to a report by ITHome, Xiaomi is pushing a new MIUI Closed Beta build for Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, and Mi 11 Ultra in China. The said update comes with build number 21.9.17 and brings along Android 12.

It is the first-ever publicly available MIUI build based on Android 12. Unfortunately, it is only limited to three smartphones and one region (China) at the moment.

Having said that, don’t expect the latest version of Android to arrive on the international variants of the Mi 11 series anytime soon. Because the software has just entered the public testing phase.

For those unaware, Xiaomi is probably the only Android OEM known for releasing weekly MIUI Beta builds for its devices. New features are introduced in this channel and they slowly make their way to the Stable channel in China, followed by other regions.

Hence, though Android 12 has been now made available for Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, and Mi 11 Ultra in the MIUI Beta channel, it will take some time(depends on issues) to reach the MIUI Stable channel.

Some Samsung Galaxy A and M series models suffer from an auto restart bug

The Samsung Galaxy A and Galaxy M series of smartphones have been a great success for the company, selling millions of units globally. However, a new report has suggested that some of these models might be suffering from a mysterious bug.

Samsung Galaxy A51 5G
Galaxy A51

Apparently, a number of users of certain Galaxy A and Galaxy M series of handsets have claimed that these smartphones suffer from a peculiar issue that causes their devices to freeze up and restart automatically. According to SamMobile, owners of the Galaxy M30s, Galaxy M31, Galaxy M31s, Galaxy A50, Galaxy A50s, and Galaxy A51 smartphones in India have recently come forward about suffering from this issue.

As per the Galaxy A and M users, their handsets tend to freeze up and hang often. Furthermore, the devices are also plagued by frequent auto restarts as well. These issues are a major nuisance to the users who also claimed that their devices have also gotten stuck in a boot loop before and don’t go past the South Korean tech giant’s logo at the startup. Notably, some users that went to Samsung service centers have reportedly been told that they might need to have the motherboards of their smartphones replaced.

Samsung Galaxy M51 Celestial Black Featured
Galaxy M51

This would cost them over 100 US Dollars. The Galaxy M and Galaxy A series are usually known for their mid range smartphones, which is quite popular in India. So it is understandable that not many would go through with the motherboard replacement for that hefty price of repairs that could just be an underlying issue not discovered by the company yet. Hopefully, the brand can acknowledge this issue that could be affecting a number of other customers and offers a fix, or at least, a free of cost repair.

Specs of Xiaomi Ingres emerge, Xiaomi Zizhan gets spotted as well

At the end of August, a Xiaomi device codenamed ‘Ingres’ appeared in MIUI code. Almost a month later, this machine has been confirmed as a smartphone. At the same time, yet another new device codenamed ‘Zizhan’ has made its entry in MIUI code.

Redmi K40G Review 26
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition

According to the findings by Xiaomiui, the upcoming Xiaomi Ingres will be powered by a Qualcomm SM450 chipset. This SoC is expected to go official as Snapdragon 898 as it will be the successor of Snapdragon 888.

Further, the phone will house a triple camera system on the rear. This setup will include a 64MP OmniVision OV64B primary sensor, an ultra-wide unit, and a macro shooter.

Unfortunately, nothing else is known about the handset, except for the fact that it will arrive with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Hence, there’s a chance that this device could sport an LCD screen instead of an AMOLED.

Xiaomiui says that this phone will go official as Redmi K50 Pro. But we think it’s too soon to determine the name of the handset. We have no guesses either. If you have any, then feel free to comment below.

On the other hand, not a single piece of information is available regarding Xiaomi Zizhan. But we expect to learn more about it in the coming days.

OnePlus sends cease and desist against Indian lawyer that claimed his Nord 2 exploded

Earlier this month, we had reported on a case of OnePlus Nord 2 exploding the pockets of an Indian lawyer’s black robe. Now, the company has sent a cease and desist notice against the lawyer claiming that his claims were “disparaging” and “defamatory”.

OnePlus

For those unaware, Gaurav Gulati claimed that his Nord 2 had caught fire and exploded in a court chamber. He claimed that around 90 percent of the battery was left as the smartphone was not in use before the incident. He had further added that he would be taking the legal route and filed a complaint with the consumer court. Now, OnePlus India has confirmed that it has sent a cease and desist letter to Gulati stating that “We confirm that we have issued a cease and desist notice to the concerned individual. We will follow the proper legal procedures to resolve this matter.”

Gulati had shared the cease and desist notice after he received it on Twitter. In the letter, the Chinese smartphone maker claimed that the lawyer refused to provide any proof of the damage and that images shared by him on Twitter suggest that there was some “external force” that had been applied to the “battery pole.” Furthermore, since Gulati refused any assistance from the company and did not provide the required proof that it had asked for, the statements originally made were without substantiation.

OnePlus

Back in August, the brand had responded to another incident regarding a Nord 2 unit exploding, but ruled out the cause as external factors rather than a manufacturing defect. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.

The Realme 4K Google TV Stick beats the Chromecast with Google TV with this singular feature

Realme will announce its first TV streaming stick this week. The device will launch as the Realme 4K Google TV Stick and it will run Google TV out of the box, making it the second portable streaming device that runs Google TV. When Realme’s streaming dongle arrives, it will come with a feature that puts it ahead of Google’s own portable streaming device, the Chromecast with Google TV.

realme 4K Google TV Stick Flipkart

One common user complaint of streaming dongles such as the Mi TV Stick and the Chromecast with Google TV is their abysmal storage capacity. Both aforementioned streaming devices have just 8GB of onboard storage, of which less than that is user-accessible out of the box. What is worse is that there is no cheap way to add extra storage.

The result of this meagre storage capacity is having insufficient space after installing a few apps. Users have to uninstall apps or games before they can install new ones or even update old ones. Yes, once you have insufficient storage, it is almost impossible to install an update for an app.

Realme is changing that with its own Google TV stick which has been reported will have 16GB of onboard storage, double that of the Chromecast with Google TV. While users will have less than 16GB of storage out of the box, we presume there will be at least 12GB of user-accessible storage space, more than double the 5GB of storage available out of the box on the Chromecast with Google TV.

At the moment, we don’t know how much the Realme 4K Google TV Stick will cost. It most likely will sell for higher than ₹2,999 (~$40), the price tag of the Mi TV Stick in India, which has an output of 1080p. However, there are reports Realme’s device will be priced under ₹5000 (~$68). For context, the Chromecast with Google TV is sold for $50 which converts to about ₹3685. If it were sold in India, it would cost more than that.

Will you purchase the Realme 4K Google TV Stick when it launches?

OPPO F19, OPPO A54 receive a price hike in India

Smartphone maker OPPO has increased the price of two of its handsets in India. The devices that have received a price hike are OPPO F19 and OPPO A54. Let’s take a look at how much they cost in the country.

OPPO F19 Camera Review 8
OPPO F19

The OPPO F19 launched in India in April. The phone comes in a single 6GB + 128GB storage configuration. It debuted at ₹18,990.

Now, the price of this smartphone has been increased by 1,000. Hence, it now retails at ₹19,9990 in India. This handset gets a price hike ahead of the release of a new version called OPPO F19s.

On the other hand, the OPPO A54 also made its entry in India in April. Unlike the former device, this one comes in three storage configurations – 4GB + 64GB, 4GB + 128GB, and 6GB + 128GB.

All three variants of OPPO A54 received a price hike in July. However, this time, only the 4GB + 64GB sees an increase in its price by ₹1,000. It now costs ₹14,990, up from ₹13,990. For comparison, the phone was introduced at ₹13,490.

Smartphones in India have been receiving price hikes since the beginning of the second quarter due to the shortage of components. Although the frequency of increases in price has been slowed lately, the problem still appears to affect companies.

Apple to skip 120Hz ProMotion display for one iPhone 14 model: Report

Apple is reportedly planning on using an LTPS OLED display panel for at least one of the four models of the iPhone 14 lineup. In other words, this one model will still ship with a LTPS OLED 60Hz panel over a 120Hz display.

Apple

According to a report from TheElec, LG Display is aiming on beginning supplying the Cupertino based giant with LTPO OLED displays next year for its next gen iPhone lineup. So, the brand would now have another supplier for its ProMotion displays for its iPhones apart from just Samsung, which is currently its sole supplier for the panels. For those unaware, the newly launched iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max feature the ProMotion displays with a variable refresh rate ranging between 10Hz and 120Hz.

This enables the devices to offer a smoother viewing experience when consuming different content like video, gaming, or simply scrolling text. On the other hand the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini use LTPS OLED display that doesn’t support ProMotion. Meanwhile, the Pro variants sport low power LTPO OLED panels. Furthermore, apart from Samsung and possibly LG, even BOE is aiming on entering the supply chain of Apple with these panels by 2023 at the earliest.

Apple

As per MacRumors, previous reports had revealed that Apple is planning on launching four models of iPhone 14. However, it would be dropping the mini variant in exchange for a 6.7 iPhone 14 Max. The other models include the 6.1 inch iPhone 14, 6.1 inch iPhone 14 Pro, and 6.7 inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. So we can assume that the brand aims to keep the high refresh rate panel on the higher end models for now.

Not much is known about the yet-to-release OPPO A55. But thanks to NCC Taiwan (via @i_hsay), we now know the design of this handset.

As per the live images, the OPPO A55 will have a triple camera island similar to that of the OnePlus 9 series and the OnePlus Nord 2. The volume buttons will sit on the left side and the power key with an embedded fingerprint sensor will reside on the right.

The bottom of the phone will include multiple openings. This side of the smartphone features a 3.5mm headphone jack, a primary microphone, a USB Type-C port, and a speaker grille.

Other than the above-mentioned specifics, the certification also confirms the presence of a 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W charging. That said, we are still yet to learn more about this handset as the information available right now is still bleak.

The OPPO A55 with model number CPH2325 is expected to go official as the 4G variant of the OPPO A55 5G from earlier this year. It will be the direct successor of OPPO A54 and could launch anything soon in the coming days.

According to Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings), the Xiaomi 11T series is set to launch in India in October. He says that at least the Pro model will debut in the country next month.

That said, he does not clarify if these phones will use the same name in India. For those unaware, Xiaomi is known for using different names for the same device in multiple markets.

Additionally, it’s not known whether Xiaomi 11T Pro will arrive with support for 120W fast charging in the county due to local regulations. If the lineup is indeed coming next week, then we expect the company to start teasing its arrival and thereby confirm the charging speed as well.

The Xiaomi 11T series is the successor to last year’s Mi 10T series. The lineup includes two models, namely Xiaomi 11T and Xiaomi 11T Pro. Both feature an identical design, however, they come with slightly different specs.

For instance, the Xiaomi 11T Pro comes with Snapdragon 888, LPDDR5 RAM, 120W fast charging, Dolby Vision, Harmon Kardon speakers, 4K 60fps rear camera recording, 1080 60fps front camera recording, barometer, and color temperature sensor. On the other hand, the vanilla Xiaomi 11T arrives with Dimensity 1200, LPDDR4x RAM, 67W charging, and lacks all other things.
