In April, Samsung held a launch event to announce a couple of notebooks such as Galaxy Book, Book Pro, Book Pro 360, and Book Odyssey. The South Korean company was also expected to announce the affordable Galaxy Book Go notebooks at the event, but they were skipped for the reasons best known to the company. Today, the company officially unveiled the Galaxy Book Go and Galaxy Book Go 5G.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G (EB2103) Geekbench listing reveals 12GB RAM variant

OnePlus will be announcing the OnePlus Nord CE 5G smartphone on June 10 in markets like India and Europe. Ahead of the launch, the handset has paid a visit to the Geekbench benchmarking platform (via). The listing suggests that the highest variant of the OnePlus Nord Core Edition 5G may feature 12 GB of RAM.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5G has appeared with its EB2103 model number at Geekbench. The listing shows that a Qualcomm chip codenamed “lito,” which offers a base frequency of 1.80GHz powers the Nord CE 5G. It can be said based on previous reports that the “lito” chip could be the Snapdragon 750G.

Oneplus Nord CE 5G Geekbench

A recent report claimed that the OnePlus Nord CE 5G has 8 GB of RAM. However, the Geekbench listing suggests that there could be a top variant with 12 GB of RAM. In the single-core and multi-core tests of the benchmarking site, the handset recorded 621 and 1789 scores, respectively.

Leaked information that appeared yesterday revealed that the Nord CE 5G will have a punch-hole AMOLED screen that produces an FHD+ resolution and a high refresh rate of 90Hz. For security, it will feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. For selfies, it will feature a front camera of 16-megapixel and its rear may feature a 64-megapixel+ 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera system.

The Nord CE 5G may draw power from a 450mAh battery and it may tag along Warp Charge 30T. It is speculated to sell in two variants like 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. The company may not announce the 12 GB RAM variant of the phone at launch. Probably, it may make it available at a later date.

LG InnoTek sells its U.S. LED patents to Chinese firm Suzhou Lekin

In 2020 LG InnoTek officially exited the LED market. However, the company still has substantial intellectual resources in its enormous trove of LED patents and physical infrastructure, which it intends to sell-off. Chinese start-up Suzhou Lekin Semiconductor, established in March 2021, is reportedly the unlikely buyer of LG’s LED patents and it seems to be on a spree of patent acquisition from LG InnoTek both in the US and elsewhere.LG Innotek

According to TheElec, the total number of patents acquired by Suzhou Lekin in relation to LED technology is reported to be close to 10,000 and could indicate the developmental direction of the Chinese company. According to filings from the United States Patents and Trademark Office (USPTO), up to 1,968 patents relating to LED technology have been transferred from LG InnoTek to Suzhou Lekin.

Lekin may trade on the acquired patents within China and beyond. This could yield significant returns on their investment in LED-related patents. The company could also deploy the needed technology to bring some of these patents to life by creating products that could use some of these innovations.

LG InnoTek is expected to share some of the dividends from the huge sale of its intellectual property with its employees responsible for the patents. The patent regime is well regulated in South Korea, and companies are mandated to share some of the gains from the sale of the patents with the staff responsible for such innovations.

Both companies have not made any official statements at this time concerning the patent deal. The financial details of the sale of patents are also not available. Apart from the patents, LG Innotek still has LED production facilities in South Korea and China, which it intends to sell.

ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3 is a Chrome OS tablet with a built-in USI Pen

ASUS has announced a new Chrome OS tablet, increasing the options of those who are interested in this form factor by one. The new ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3 arrives as a competitor to the Lenovo Chromebook Duet, but is it a better choice?

ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3

The ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3 has an aluminum unibody with a matte finish. It is 7.9mm thick and comes with a stain-repellent cover that gives it a classy look. There is only one color variant available called Mineral Gray.

ASUS’s Chrome OS tablet has a 10.5-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 1920 x 1200 resolution. There are thick bezels around the display which is not uncommon for a lot of tablets.

Powering the ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3 is MediaTek’s MT8183 processor which is practically the Helio P60T but specially designed for entry-level Chromebooks. It is an octa-core chipset with four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. It also has an Arm Mali-G72 MP3 GPU clocked at 800MHz.

The processor is paired with 4GB of RAM, and buyers will be able to pick between a 64GB version or a 128GB version. Just like Lenovo’s own tablet, this too is missing a MicroSD card slot, so you can’t expand the storage.

What it does have that the Duet doesn’t is an audio jack and a USI stylus with a silo for storing it. When inserted in the slot, the stylus automatically charges and ASUS says that a 15-second charge will provide 45 minutes of use. Lenovo’s USI Pen has to be purchased separately and it costs $39, though it is much thicker and feels like a regular pen. It also uses a replaceable battery.

The ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3 has a keyboard that connects via four pogo pins at the bottom of the tablet. The keyboard has an ErgoLift design, a 1.5m key travel, and a trackpad. The stand cover, which can also be removed can be adjusted to up to 90° when in landscape mode. It can also be used to prop up the tablet in portrait mode.

There is an 8MP camera on the back of the tablet while the front camera is a 2MP sensor. ASUS has packed a 27Whr battery into the tablet which it says should last up to 12 hours on a single charge. A 45W charger is included in the box for charging. The tablet has dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, and a USB-C port.

The ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3 is priced at $350 for the 64GB version and $370 for the 128GB version. Both are currently listed as Coming Soon on the official ASUS store. ASUS states that there is a 1-year Free 100GB Google One trial which expires from Google by the 31st of January 2022.

Microsoft to unveil a new version of Windows on June 24

It has been six years since Microsoft first announced Windows 10. The operating system has received several updates that bring new features since then but Microsoft has stuck to the same name. Come June 24, the tech giant will announce a new version of Windows.

Yes, a new version of Windows is coming at the end of the month according to a quoted tweet by Yusuf Mehdi, the Corporate Vice President, Modern Life, Search & Devices Group, at Microsoft. The executive quoted a tweet by the official Windows account that said there will be an event on June 24. While the original tweet didn’t say what the launch is for, a teaser video included hints at it being related to the Windows operating system. However, it is Mr. Mehdi that lets the cat out of the bag when he reveals that it is for a new version of Windows.

It has been reported that Microsoft has also sent out invites for the event and that CEO, Satya Nadella, as well as Chief Product Officer, Panos Panay, will be presenting at the event.

There are speculations that this new version will launch as Windows 11 citing the teaser in the tweet above and the fact that the event is scheduled for 11 AM. Regardless of what it will be called, the new version is expected to come with visual changes such as new icons, an imprved file explorer, and improved Bluetooth audio support. We should also see some of the features that were said to have been taken from the now killed Windows 10X operating system.

We are excited for this new version of Windows and can’t wait to see what Microsoft has in store for us.

Huawei gives us an official look at the P50 series, may come with a Snapdragon 888 4G chip

Huawei gave us an official look at the Huawei P50 series at the end of its event today. The reveal which was unexpected confirmed the renders we have seen in the past few weeks.

As seen in the image below, the Huawei P50 series will indeed have two pretty large round camera housings that hold the cameras. It is an unusual camera design and the internet is divided about it.

Huawei P50

We are not sure which model of the P50 series this is but it is most likely not the standard version. The device has three cameras in the top housing while the second housing holds a periscope zoom lens and an LED flash.

If you watch the video in the tweet below, you should get a glimpse of the LEICA logo, confirming that Huawei is once again partnering with the German camera company for its 2021 flagship phone.

Huawei’s CEO, Yu Chengdong, revealed that the P50 series doesn’t have a launch date yet as a result of “reasons we are aware of”. Nevertheless, they are working on making the device available.

The P50 series is expected to be powered by Huawei’s own Kirin chipsets but there is a possibility we may see the phones come with Qualcomm’s own processors just as we did today with two of the new MatePad tablets.

According to Teme (@RODENT950), there may be a 4G version of the Snapdragon 888 processor and its delay may be the reason why Huawei is yet to choose a launch date (for the P50 series). We can assume this means that Huawei plans to use this version of the chipset for the P50 series.

Actually, this is not the first time we have heard of the Huawei P50 series coming with Snapdragon chips. Back in November, Qualcomm was granted the license to supply Huawei with chips, and it was reported that these chipsets may power the P50. Though it appears that the license limits them to 4G chips which explains why there is no 5G version of the new MatePad Pro 10.8 and the MatePad 11. Since you can’t possibly launch a phone without a modem, Huawei’s best bet is to settle for a 4G version of the Snapdragon 888.

Asus Zenfone 8 vs Zenfone 8 Flip: Specs Comparison

The latest Asus flagship series is a duo and it is composed of Asus Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip. Both are very atypical devices: the former is one of the few compact flagships in the market, while the latter is one of the few devices with holeless display and a rear camera that can be used as a front camera as well. Both are sold at very interesting prices and offer amazing flagship-class specifications, but which one should you go for? This comparison will hopefully clear your ideas in regards.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES Dual SIM slot, 5G, reverse charging, IP68 waterproof Dual SIM slot, 5G, flip-up camera

Design

The Asus Zenfone 8 is my favorite one simply because it is one of the most compact flagships out there: with its small display, it is very comfortable to use with one hand and to keep in a pocket. The handset is also built with premium materials, including a glass back protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and an aluminum frame. Last but not least, it is waterproof and dustproof with the IP68 certification. The Flip is very interesting with its holeless and notch-less display (thanks to its flip-up camera), but it is bigger, thick, and pretty heavy, so it is definitely not the device to look for if you need the most elegant and pocket-friendly phone. But it is still built with premium material (glass sandwich with an aluminum frame).

Display

Despite the Asus Zenfone 8 is more affordable, besides its great aesthetics, it also offers a better display. The main difference between the Asus Zenfone 8 and 8 Flip is the refresh rate: 120 Hz vs 90 Hz. They both come with AMOLED panels boasting a Full HD+ resolution, the HDR10+ certification, and similar brightness levels. You also get an in-display fingerprint reader. But the dimensions play an even more important role than specifications when it comes to the display: the Asus Zenfone 8 has a 5.9-inch panel, one of the smallest displays in the flagship segment. The Asus Flip, instead, sports a standard 6.67-inch display.

Specs & Software

Asus Zenfone 8 and 8 Flip are powered by the same mobile platform: the Snapdragon 888, which is currently the best by Qualcomm. The software is the same too: Android 11 customized by Zen UI 8. But with the Asus Zenfone 8, you can get better memory configurations: it offers up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage, while Asus Flip has a max of 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.

Camera

The Asus Zenfone 8 Flip is a superior camera phone. On both the phones, you can find a 64 MP main camera and a 12 MP ultrawide sensor, but the Asus Flip adds an 8 MP telephoto sensor with 8x optical zoom. Further, this variant allows using the rear camera as front cameras as we are talking about a flip-up camera department, while Asus Zenfone 8 relies on a 12 MP front camera with 4K video recording for selfies.

Battery

Asus Zenfone 8 Flip has a longer battery life thanks to its bigger battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh. The Asus Zenfone 8 has just 4000 mAh because it is one of the most compact phones in the market. Both feature 30W fast charging, but the vanilla version is faster to reach 100% for obvious reasons.

Price

The starting price of the Asus Zenfone 8 is €600/$730, while you need €800/$977 to purchase the Asus Zenfone 8 Flip. If you are ok with very compact phones and you do not mind having a small battery that does not provide an astonishing battery life (the battery has a below-average capacity compared to other 2021 flagships, but it is still sufficient), the vanilla version is a more interesting choice. But the Asus Zenfone 8 Flip actually offers a better user experience with its bigger battery, wider display, and more interesting camera setup.

Asus Zenfone 8 vs Asus Zenfone 8 Flip: PRO and CONS

Asus Zenfone 8

  • More compact dimensions

There are still some gaps observed in the announcement, as no name has yet been given for the device. The only hint relating to the announcement is that Sony says it is an announcement for music lovers. The product is also teased as “Truly Silent” and “Tailored 4 you”.

The earbuds also come with an IPX4 waterproof and dustproof rating. The voice pickup technology is of the highest precision and quality. Huawei FreeBuds 4 global rollout begins with UK launch, starts at £129.99

Chinese tech giant Huawei has officially unveiled its next-generation truly wireless earbuds dubbed FreeBuds 4 for the global market. Huawei FreeBuds 4 was first unveiled in China last month with a retail price of 999 yuan (~$155). The FreeBuds 4 will begin its global journey in the UK on June 21 with a starting price of £129.99 for the wired charging edition. The earbuds are presently on reservation via Huawei Store and other retail channels until June 20. Huawei will also be launching the wireless charging edition of the FreeBuds 4 in mid-July for £149.99.Huawei FreeBuds 4

Huawei touts the FreeBuds 4 as featuring an upgraded Open-fit ANC 2.0 technology which brings improvement to the noise cancellation at the hardware and software level. Also, the earbuds adopt a dual-microphone noise cancellation technology which delivers upgraded noise cancellation performance. Huawei claims the headsets are the first open-fit earbuds in the industry to use dual-microphone noise cancellation technology. This design ensures that the microphones pick up ambient noise with far greater accuracy, reaching industry-leading levels.Huawei FreeBuds 4

In terms of the design, the FreeBuds 4 truly wireless earbuds still use a semi-in-ear design just like the FreeBuds 3. The device also comes with Adaptive Ear Matching (AEM) noise cancellation technology which enhances noise cancellation effectively across different wearing scenarios. How this works is that when the noise cancellation is turned on, the earbuds automatically detect the user’s ear shape and determine the optimum noise cancellation setup for each user, resulting in the most comfortable noise cancellation experience.

In terms of sound quality, Huawei’s FreeBuds 4 uses a classic dynamic speaker structure. It features a Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) diaphragm that is lighter and more rigid. This takes the headset’s frequency response range up to 40kHz. The bass is also of vivid sound quality.Huawei FreeBuds 4 UK

Further, the FreeBuds 4 is equipped with a high-sensitivity microphone that can record high-fidelity sound with a sampling rate of up to 48 kHz, retaining the rich details of the sound. The microphone also has a powerful noise pickup reduction.Huawei FreeBuds 4

In terms of connectivity, the Huawei FreeBuds 4 supports dual device connectivity, allowing users to pair simultaneously with any two of a Huawei smartphone, tablet, PC, smartwatch or smart display, or any other smart devices running Android, iOS, or Windows OS. With this style, when the user is using the tablet to listen to music or watch a movie if a phone call comes in, the video is paused while the earbuds swiftly switch to the phone. The Audio Connectivity Centre within Huawei AI Life contains the list of the ten recently connected devices, allowing users to switch between devices seamlessly.

Top of the line is the MatePad Pro with a 12.6” screen and powered by the Kirin 9000 series; there is also a 10.8” MatePad Pro powered by the Snapdragon 870; and last but not the least is the MatePad 11 that has the Snapdragon 865 inside it. All three run HarmonyOS 2 out of the box.

MatePad Pro 12.6

Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6

The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is the leader of the pack. It sports a 12.6-inch 2560 x 1600 OLED display with 5.6mm slim bezels that give it a 90% screen-to-body ratio. The screen has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, DCI-P3 color gamut, and a Delta E color accuracy rating of less than 0.5. This is also the first tablet in the world to receive a TÜV Rheinland Full Care Display 2.0 certification.

Huawei has squeezed the camera into one of the side bezels, so you can have your video calls in the landscape position. This design change means that the punch hole of the 2019 model is gone.

Powering the MatePad Pro is the Kirin 9000 series. The Wi-Fi version of the tablet comes with the Kirin 9000E, a variant of the Kirin 9000 with fewer GPU cores and NPU cores. The 5G version of the tablet has a Kirin 9000 chipset. Both versions have 8GB of RAM and users will be able to pick up the Wi-Fi version in 128GB and 256GB storage variants while the 5G version is only available with 256GB of storage. There is support for storage expansion via Huawei’s proprietary NM card slot.

MatePad Pro specs

The MatePad Pro 12.6 has an 8MP front-facing camera, a 13MP main rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP f/2.4 ultrawide angle camera, and a 3D depth-sensing camera. There is also an LED flash on the back.

Huawei has packed a total of eight speakers tuned by Harman Kardon and with Histen 7.0 sound effects into the new flagship tablet. There are also four microphones that are designed to pick up your voice from several meters away and also cancel background noise when having a video call or recording.

The MatePad Pro packs a 10050mAh battery that will provide up to 14 hours of playback. It supports 40W fast wired charging, 27W wireless fast charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. Huawei ships the tablet with a 40W SuperCharge power adapter. Other features are Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port, and OTG reverse wired charging.

Harmony OS

HarmonyOS brings new features such as a bottom dock similar to that of iPadOS that shows frequently used apps and also recently used ones. Another feature is New Service Widgets which display information in real-time and allows users to access certain features without launching the app. Two other features are a new Tablet-PC Multi-Screen Collaboration:

App Multiplier – users will be able to scroll up and down on the empty spaces on either side to navigate app content without releasing their grip on the tablet. They can also launch two instances of the same app and interact with each window separately. Huawei says there are almost 4000 apps that have been adopted for App Multiplier.

Tablet-PC Multi-Screen Collaboration – the new MatePad can double as an extended second screen for your computer. Owners can also use it as a digital pad or use it to sign and annotate documents when in mirror mode. While collaborate mode allows users to easily transfer content between the PC and tablet and vice versa with a simple drag and drop. Of course, these features work with Huawei’s own PCs.

MatePad Pro 12.6 Price and Availability

The MatePad Pro is already available for pre-order starting today and it will go on sale on June 10. The tablet will be available in three colors – Silver Frost, Matte Gray, and Olive Green which has a textured vegan leather back. Below are the prices:

  • 8+128GB Wi-Fi = ¥4999 (~$783)
  • 8+256GB Wi-Fi = ¥5499 (~$862)
  • 8+256GB Wi+Fi (Keyboard case and M-Pencil 2 included) = ¥6699 (~$1050)
  • 8+256GB 5G (Keyboard case and M-Pencil 2 included) = ¥7999 (~$1254)

In Europe, the tablet will be available for €799 but we don’t know what the storage capacity is for this version.

MatePad Pro 10.8

MatePad Pro 10 10.8

if the 12.6-inch MatePad Pro is too big, then there is a 10.8-inch model. However, the screen size is not the only difference between them. This version has an LCD screen with the same 2560 x 1600 resolution, 4.9mm thin bezels, DCI-P3 color gamut, a 120hz refresh rate, and a hole punch at the top left corner.

It swaps the Kirin 9000 series for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 and comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of expandable storage. There is a single 13MP camera on the back with an LED flash while an 8MP camera is in front for video calls.

MatePad Pro 10.8 specs

Of course, the battery is smaller at 7250mAh (lasts up to 11 hours) and it supports 22.5W fast wired charging, 27W fast wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. You also get Harman Kardon-tuned quad speakers with Histen 7.0 and five microphones. There is Bluetooth 5.1, dual-band Wi-Fi, and a USB-C port.

The MatePad Pro 10.8 is available in green, gray, and white. It is priced at ¥3799 (~$595) for the 128GB version and ¥4299 (~$674) for the 256GB version. There is also a ¥5299 (~$830) 256GB version that comes with a keyboard case and stylus.

MatePad 11 specs

MatePad 11

The MatePad 11 has a 10.95-inch LCD screen with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is powered by a Snapdragon 865 chipset with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There are quad cameras, four microphones, a single rear camera, and a front-facing camera.

There is a 7250mAh battery inside the device with support for 22.5W fast charging via USB-C. Just like the other two models, it also has support for the new M-Pencil 2 and has its own smart keyboard cover.

Huawei will sell this model for €399 in Europe.

M-Pencil 2

M-Pencil 2

Huawei announced a new stylus too. The M-Pencil 2 has a revamped design, lower latency, and is more precise. It also has a platinum-coated transparent nib. The new stylus can be purchased separately for ¥599 (~$94). It works with all of the new tablets.

OnePlus Nord CE spec sheet leaks, will have a 4500mAh battery

OnePlus has confirmed that its next mid-range device will launch as the OnePlus Nord CE. The device has been described as a cheaper version of last year’s OnePlus Nord with a focus on the core features of the phone. Ahead of the launch, the full specifications of the device have been leaked.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G

The specifications were posted by Yogesh (@heyitsyogesh) in collaboration with MySmartPrice, and from the details, OnePlus has truly trimmed down the original Nord. For example, there are now fewer cameras.

The Nord CE will have a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint scanner. It will have a notch at the top left corner but it will house a single camera – a 16MP sensor. Gone is the Snapdragon 765G processor of the Nord, and in its place is a Snapdragon 750G. The source says that users will be able to pick up the phone in two configurations – 6GB RAM + 64GB and 8GB RAM + 128GB. However, it appears there will also be a 12GB RAM version as seen on Geekbench by Nashvillechatterclass. The storage type is said to be UFS 2.1.

For the rear cameras, there are now three. A 64MP main sensor from OmniVision, an 8MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. One area where the Nord CE improves upon is its battery capacity. It packs a 4500mAh battery, a bump from the 4150mAh inside the Nord. The device will support a new fast-charging technology called Warp Charge 30T Plus which will refill the battery from empty to 70% in 30 minutes.

Other features are a plastic build with an overall thickness of 7.9mm, a mono speaker, an audio jack, and Android 11 pre-installed. It has also been revealed that the phone will not have an alert slider, a feature the OnePlus Nord has but which was not included in the cheaper Nord models.

The OnePlus Nord CE is expected to be priced at around ₹25,000 for the 8GB RAM version. It will be available for pre-order on June 11 along with free gifts worth ₹2,699
