OPPO entered the wearable category last year with the launch of the OPPO Watch. Since then, the company has released only one more wearable in the form of the OPPO Band. Both these products got multiple variants in the months following the launch of the original. Now, the company teases the launch of its next smartwatch.
Earlier today, ahead of the OPPO Reno6 series launch event in China, the company held an exclusive conference for media. At this meeting, the company revealed that it will be launching a new smartwatch.
Unfortunately, the firm did not say when it will be unveiling this wearable. However, it confirmed that this upcoming OPPO Watch will have ‘almost no shortcomings’. Lastly, this smartwatch will feature a chip called Apollo4s, co-developed by Ambiq and OPPO.
Although OPPO is yet to reveal the official name of this smartwatch, a new trademark filing by the company suggests that this watch could launch as OPPO Watch Free. OPPO filed this trademark with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) earlier this week. Anyway, this is just a wild guess, and therefore, we request you consider this information with a pinch of salt.
That said, we expect to learn more about this mysterious OPPO Watch before its launch via certifications, leaks, and official teasers.

Chinese tech giant and BBK subsidiary OPPO today held a launch event in China where three Reno 6 series models were launched. The three models include the Reno6, Reno6 Pro, and Reno6 Pro+. The models live up to OPPO’s quality standard with the pricing of the base model starting at 2799 yuan ($438).
The vanilla OPPO Reno6 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset bringing onboard 5G capability. The Reno6 sports a 6.4-inch 2.5D high-sensitivity screen with support for a 90Hz refresh rate. The device also integrates an aluminium alloy mid-frame. The phone is the only model that utilizes a right-angle middle frame. The other two models have well-chamfered curved edges. The Reno6 is available in three color schemes.
OPPO Reno6 Pro
In terms of the camera, OPPO Reno6 features a 32-megapixel lens at the front housed in the waterdrop notch. At the rear, there is a triple camera setup made up of a 64-megapixels main camera as well as an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro lens. The camera supports AI radiance video, super video anti-shake, mobile time-lapse video, multi-scene video, AI ID photo, Soloop instant recording, and other functions.
In addition, the Reno6 is equipped with a decent 4300mAh battery with support for 65W super flash charging. It runs on the latest ColorOS 11.3 OS based on Android 11. The phone also comes with VC liquid cooling heat dissipation.
OPPO Reno6 Pro
OPPO Reno6 Pro features a 6.55-inch curved edge screen. The display house a punch-hole design and equally features support for a 90Hz refresh rate. The Reno6 Pro is equipped with a Dimensity 1200 chip which features a 5G modem onboard. The back panel comes in three color schemes which OPPO dubbed; “Night Sea”, “Summer Sunny Sea”, and “Star River Like a Dream”.
For photography, the Reno6 Pro adopts a camera setup almost similar to the Reno6. The front houses a 32megapixel sensor under the punch-hole. At the rear, the phone packs a 2-megapixel portrait-style camera in addition to the 64-megapixels main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens.
The Reno 6 Pro packs a slightly bumped-up 4500mAh battery and also features support for a 65W super flash charge.
OPPO Reno6 Pro+
OPPO Reno6 Pro+ is the star product of the pack and outclasses the Reno6 and Reno6 Pro in several aspects. The Reno6 Pro+ is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset. The phone is equipped with a 6.55-inch curved-edge flexible AMOLED screen but sadly, you only get 90Hz refresh rate support onboard. The Reno6 Pro+ is available in two color schemes dubbed “Moon Sea” and “Summer Sunny Sea”.
The Reno6 Pro+ features an improved camera setup which includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 main camera. The setup also includes a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 13-megapixel telephoto, and a 2-megapixel macro lens.
The premium smartphone equally packs a 4500mAh battery and has support for 65W super flash charging. The heat dissipation is also upgraded to a full-size VC liquid cooling system.
OPPO also released a radiant and light-filling protective case which is priced at 299 yuan (~$47). The protective cases will be sold for 99 yuan ($15) when purchased with the smartphone.
Pricing & Availability
Here are the pricing and availability for the Reno6 series.
A few months ago, it was reported that Qualcomm has a handheld console similar to the Nintendo Switch in development. The source mentioned key details including its design and specs, one of which is support for 5G via a Snapdragon X55 modem. Now, new info has surfaced that says the device won’t have a modem.
According to Roland Quandt of Winfuture.de, the Qualcomm handheld console will not have a 4G or 5G modem as it uses the APQ8350 (Application Processor) chipset and not the SM8350 (Snapdragon 888 Mobile Platform).
Remember the Qualcomm "Switch Style" console @MishaalRahman from @xdadevelopers and @AndroidPolice were talking about a little while back? It doesn't have 4G/5G modem. Based on APQ8350, not SM8350.
The APQ8350 should have a similar architecture to the SM8350 save for a modem, though it will have a Wi-Fi module for connectivity.
We do not know if this has always been the case from the onset or Qualcomm changed its mind and decided to not include a modem. There is also a possibility that Qualcomm may be testing two versions of these devices which means the earlier report may not be incorrect but another version of the same device with a modem.
While having a modem will be a good thing, we can’t rule out that mobile connection will surely have a significant effect on battery life. The Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite both connect via Wi-Fi and manage to have a battery life of between 4.5 to 9 hours and 3 to 7 hours respectively depending on usage. If Qualcomm’s focus is on its device having longer battery life, then it is understandable as to why it is not putting a modem in the device.
So far, we know the Qualcomm gaming console will have detachable controllers, a 6000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge, a USB-C port, and support for display output. It will run Android 12 out of the box and also have the Epic Game Store pre-installed.
Considering that the device is not expected to launch until next year, there is a chance that some of these features may change as development goes on. Nevertheless, we are eager to see what Qualcomm has in store for mobile gamers.
Chinese smartphone brand vivo launched the vivo Y17 in the first half of 2019. The handset debuted with Funtouch OS 9 based on Android 9.0 Pie. The device was updated to Android 10-based Funtouch OS 10. Now, it has started receiving Funtouch OS 11 (Android 11) update as well.
vivo Y17
The vivo Y17 is not the first vivo budget smartphone from H1 2019 to get the Android 11 update. In early March, the company began to roll out this update to another such device called vivo Y12, which debuted at around the same time.
Anyway, according to a report by PiunikaWeb, the vivo Y17 Funtouch OS 11 update is currently in greyscale testing. This means the update is only available for a select few users.
For those unaware, vivo grayscale testing is similar to XiaomiMIUI Stable Beta. This type of builds are released for a few set of users for testing purpose before a wider rollout. If these users don’t face any major issues, the build is gradually seeded out to more users.
Anyway, all vivo Y17 users should receive the Android 11 update in the coming weeks. Lastly, it is worth noting that Funtouch OS 11 is the last major update for this handset since vivo is known for providing only two Android updates for most of its phones.

At its Reno6 series launch conference today, OPPO added a new TWS headset in its Enco Free series. The new model called the ENCO Free2 brings in significant upgrades like Active Noise Cancellation up to 42dB and audio tuning by DYNAUDIO. This would make it the second OPPO product after the OPPO ENCO X, to be tuned by the popular Danish audio company.
The OPPO Enco Free2 brings in an in-ear design, unlike the semi-open design of its predecessor. The previous model wasn’t particularly great at noise isolation but with an in-ear design and Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), the Free2 solves this problem. In fact, Noise Cancellation is a big highlight of the new earbuds. OPPO has used a 3-core chip to ensure excellent ANC and claims the earbuds can block noise up to 42dB — one of the highest noise isolation levels for earbuds in its price range. OPPO further adds that the Free2 should offer considerable isolation from wind noise as well.
It’s also good to see that OPPO is bringing DYNAUDIO tuning to the cheaper ‘Free’ series. However, unlike the Enco X which had the DYNAUDIO logo on its charging case, this branding is nowhere to be seen on the Free2’s box or case. That said, with the Danish audio company tuning the earbuds, we can expect better audio than its predecessor.
The Enco Free2 also upgrades its Ingress Protection. The earbuds are IP54 certified, unlike the Enco Free which was just IPX4 rated. So the new earbuds should be safe for your routine beach outings as well.
Other features of the new earbuds include a personalized listening technology which OPPO claims allows customization of the sound according to your hearing levels, transparency mode (same as other earbuds with ANC), 42ms low latency, and remote photo capture, VLOG shoot mode (double click the earbud to activate the shutter). Note that the remote capture mode is currently only available on the new OPPO Reno6 series and will be rolled out to more smartphones in the coming weeks.
The Enco Free2 promises up to 4.5 hours of audio playback with ANC turned on, and up to 6.5 hours without ANC. The charging case will further add a playback time of up to 30 hours.
The new OPPO Enco Free2 will go on sale in China from June 5 for 599 yuan (~$94) which is a good 100 yuan (~$16) cheaper than its predecessor’s launch price back in 2019!
The performance offered by gaming laptops might soon improve in the near future as upgrades to the USB-C standards has it deliver a whopping 240W power. This bump in power offered by USB-C could also benefit various other products as well.
According to a CNetreport, the USB-C standard can now offer up to 240 watts of power starting this year. This will let users plug in electronic gadgets that require a lot of power, including gaming laptops, docking stations, 4K monitors, printers, and various other products. Recently, the USB Implementers Forum, the group that develops the technology, announced that the new power levels in version 2.1 update earlier this week.
For those unaware, gaming laptops are usually limited by a couple of major parameters. This includes power draw, size, heat dissipitation and others. Bulkier laptops are easier to cool while, more power leads to higher temps. Although, this in turn, also improves performance as the components have more power to work with and are not throttled. In simpler terms, manufacturers are constantly struggling to strike a balance, so this higher power delivery might offer firms more flexibility in terms of specs and power draw limits.
This new 240W option is called Extended Power Range or EPR. The group stated that “We expect devices supporting higher wattages in the second half of 2021.” USB technology has come a long way with a number of improvements in power and data transfer. Now, the latest 240W Extended Power Range would further boost its applications. Although, the higher power transfer would also require the cables to support higher 240 watts as well, which the “users will be able to confirm visually” through specific icons, as per the USB-IF.
Chinese smartphone manufacturers have apparently lowered their handset shipment goals for 2021 again. This reportedly includes major brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, and Honor, which have already lowered their targets earlier this month.
According to a DigiTimesreport, industry sources close to the matter have revealed that these brands further lowered their smartphone shipment goals for the year 2021. There are multiple factors that have led smartphone makers from China to lower their shipment goals, which include supply issues with materials and even the global chip shortage that has impacted various industries across the globe. For those unaware, the semiconductor shortage has already impacted industries like automobiles, PCs, home appliances, and even smartphones.
Another notable factor includes the resurgence of Coronavirus in key regions like India, which is suffering from the impacts of the second wave of COVID-19. The smartphone market in the country was recovering but it seems to on the decline again. Kiranjeet Kaur, a senior research manager at IDC added that “People are not venturing outside their home unless they absolutely need to. Online retailers are only providing essentials, and smartphones are not considered an essential.”
India has been a crucial market for smartphone brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, and others. Thus, declining sales in the region will impact the overall sales of these companies. Notably, Xiaomi was the leading smartphone brand in the region, annually shipping over 41 million units in 2020. In a statement, Realme said that “Our current business development is affected to a certain extent, but as the situation hopefully improves, we are confident that we will be able to recover quickly.”

The video was shared by the brand’s product head, Wang Thomas, and had the newly launched device undergoing various stress tests. In the video, the device was put through a long sequence of torture tests and still managed to remain unharmed. The Chinese tech giant had the Note 10 Pro 5G go through a drop test on a hard surface. After this, it was also placed in a centrifuge machine and spun along with some small plastic materials as well.
Furthermore, the company also subjected the device to a series of shots with walnuts and even a machine drilling. One of the odd tests that Xiaomi had the device undergo is being put into a mashing machine along with some rocks. For those unaware, the device sports Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus that covers the display. The video also showcases the bend resistance and durability of the Note 10 Pro’s aluminosilicate glass, which even went through a scratch test as well.
