MediaTek is apparently expecting to see another sequential rise of 10 to 18 percent in terms of revenue in the second quarter of this year. The company is projecting the revenue to be anywhere between 118.8 to 127.5 billion New Taiwan Dollars (roughly 4.22 to 4.53 billion US Dollars).
According to a DigiTimesreport, the chip maker has even raised its internal revenue growth and gross margin projections for this year to 40 percent and 44 to 46 percent respectively. Furthermore, the company is even expecting the momentum to stay strong next year as well, as per sources close to the matter. The company has even begun talks with its partners in its supply chain regarding capacity support for 2022 and has also achieved good results so far, as per the source.
Additionally, MediaTek has reported its consolidated revenue for the first quarter of this year, which is around 108.3 billion New Taiwan Dollars. This figure is up from 12.1 percent sequentially and also marks a significant rise of 77.5 percent year on year. During the same period, the chip maker also had a gross margin of around 44.9 percent and net profits of 25.77 billion US Dollars.
This again marks a 73.4 percent sequential rise and a whopping 348 percent year on year grwoth. Interestingly, both the revenues and the net profits were new quarterly records for the company in Q1 2021, which is likely due to its booming business in recent months.
Telecom Italia is looking to cancel to contract with Huawei for supplying equipment to build part of the telecom firm’s 5G network in the country, reports Reuters citing sources aware of the development.
If the company goes ahead with the plan, then it will be a major blow to the Chinese telecom giant as Telecom Italia is one of Huawei’s biggest clients in Europe. The company has already lost some business to its rivals Nokia and Ericsson.
The development comes as the United States has been pressuring its allies to ban Huawei equipment from their 5G infrastructure, citing a national security risk. However, in the European region, only Britain and Sweden have banned Huawei for 5G.
Now, this new report, citing a source aware of the development, claims that Telecom Italia has sent a letter to Huawei informing its intention to call off the contract. The development was first reported by the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.
Earlier, the plan of the Italian company was to give the contract to Huawei and Ericsson but later the company split in among three companies by bringing Nokia to the mix. But now it seems that the contract will be split between Nokia and Ericsson.
Huawei was already excluded from the core of the 5G network which is used for processing sensitive data. The new development related to the Chinese giant comes after a review of supply policy, including a cost and benefit analysis, says the report.

Samsung is expected to launch new foldable smartphones this year. But prior to any official announcement, the company has applied for a trademark for S Foldable displays, which might be the screen panels used in these upcoming flexible devices.
According to a LetsGoDigitalreport, the South Korean tech giant filed for a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) for the name ‘S Foldable.’ The news arrives amid other rumors of upcoming launches for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. While these devices are likely to arrive sometime in the future with designs similar to the predecessor, the company is apparently also working on a new extra large foldable tablet device as well.
One of the unique aspect about the S Foldable display is likely its Z shared hinge design, which implies that the foldable smartphone will feature two hinge mechanism for a single display. Meaning, the handset would fold twice. The report also adds that this technology might also be seen with the Galaxy Z Fold Tab that could release later this year, but is more likely to be unveiled sometime in 2022. The ‘S’ in the trademark name is likely a hint towards the dual folding design that showcases its S shaped fold.
In the past, we had reported on the company patenting devices that have the S or Z shaped folding design. So, this might be the company’s move to trademark the design before the launch of a device that ships with it. Unfortunately, this is still a trademark application so finer details regarding any future launches are still unknown. So stay tuned for more updates regarding this matter.
Earlier this week, Redmi launched the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition (aka Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition) in China. We got our hands on a review unit. While playing around with the device, we found out that it does not support GMS (Google Mobile Services) installation.
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition
Back in February, Xiaomi confirmed that it will no longer include the GMS framework on its future smartphones running MIUI China ROM. With the MIUI 12.5 update, the company has been also removing the framework on older phones.
The firm claims that this move will reduce the storage space consumed by the OS. The Chinese handset maker even allows users to uninstall a bunch of system apps on MIUI 12.5.
Since the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition ships with MIUI 12.5 out of the box, it does not have the necessary GMS framework files that are required for Google apps and services. Hence, users cannot install GMS from the Mi App store on this phone.
1 of 2
We can confirm that this is the case with all the units and not only ours alone. We enquired about this matter with a local Mi Store executive. They revealed that the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition does not support GMS installation as of now. There are also multiple discussion threads on this issue on forums like Kuan.
That said, it is worth noting that Xiaomi could add the GMS framework in a future system update. Because the company had earlier stated that it will ship phones with the GMS framework based on demand.
Since the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition is the brand’s first gaming smartphone, it is already popular internationally. We expect more enthusiasts to import it. Hence, there’s a high chance Xiaomi could bring GMS installation support to this handset.
Vivo had one of its patents recently be published by the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration). The patent is for a foldable smartphone that has a full front screen body.
As per a patent filing with the CNIPA, the Chinese tech giant is apparently working on a “folding electronic equipment” that has the publication number CN112711301A. The patent in question describes a foldable electronic device that includes a housing and a display a screen mounted on this housing. One side of the housing is a non display area, with this region housing the internal components.
Furthermore, the foldable smartphone from the brand is also designed to offer a full front screen body experience, which means that there will be no visible seems, notches or chin at the front. This is further supplemented by the folding mechanism itself, allowing for a better reading, gaming, and overall viewing experience, which is hinted by its supposed inward folding design. Unfortunately, it is unknown if the device would also sport a under display selfie shooter as well.
Keep in mind that this is still just a patent so we have no way of knowing if the company is actually working on such a product or covering all bases. So stay tuned, as we will be providing updates when additional updates or other interesting developments surface regarding the company’s foldable smartphone.
Redmi India has teased the arrival of a new smartphone. It has released an image of a box package that has key features of the upcoming phone mentioned on it. It can be said based on recent reports that the company could be teasing the arrival of the Redmi Note 10S smartphone.
The teaser suggests that the forthcoming Redmi phone will offer MIUI 12.5 experience, blazing fast performance, long-lasting battery, 64-megapixel main camera, and a super display. The three dots seem to show the three color variants of the device.
Brace yourselves folks, there's going to be a new player in town!
We're dropping hints but are you #savage enough to spot 'em! 😉
A recent leak revealed that the Redmi Note 10S will arrive in color editions like grey, white, and blue in India. The leak also revealed that it may sell in variants like 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage, 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage.
The Redmi Note 10S is expected to arrive with a 6.43-inch AMOLED FHD+ display, Helio G95 chipset, up to 8 GB of RAM, up to 128 GB of UFS 2.2 storage, MIUI 12.5 based Android 11 OS, a side-facing fingerprint scanner, and a 5,000mAh battery with 33W rapid charge support. It has a 13-megapixel front camera and a 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel (ultrawide) + 2-megapixel (macro) + 2-megapixel (depth) quad-camera system.
A new report from Canalys revealed that the South Korean giant Samsung has managed to regain the top position in the global smartphone market in the first quarter of this year, i.e. Q1 2021, and overtook Apple.
However, another report from Strategy Analytics (via Korean Times) has claimed that Samsung is no longer the world’s leading seller for 5G smartphones. That crown is now with Apple as it sold the most 5G-enabled smartphones in the first quarter of this year.
The Apple iPhone 12 lineup, launched in October last year, is the first from the company that comes with support for 5G connectivity. This isn’t surprising given that due to the demand for the phones, it was already expected that Apple might sell the most 5G phones.
What’s surprising is that Samsung has slipped to the fourth position and its market share for the 5G smartphones decreased from 34.6 percent during the same period last year to just 12.7 percent. This is after the fact that the company shipped 17 million 5G smartphones in Q1 2021, which represents an increase of 105 percent YoY.
On the other hand, Apple sold 40.4 million 5G iPhones during Q1 2021, capturing a massive 30.2 percent market share. It’s noteworthy that Q1 2021 was the first quarter when all the new iPhone models were on sale.
With Huawei slowly going out of the picture in this segment, other Chinese smartphone makers benefited. OPPO managed to double its market share to 16.1 percent, grabbing the second position for the 5G smartphones as it shipped 21.5 million units.
Vivo stood third for the 5G smartphones shipments with a monstrous growth of 646 percent compared to the same period last year and shipments of 19.4 million units. Xiaomi came fifth with 564 percent YoY growth and 16.6 million shipments.
A new has recently surfaced that reveals that Xiaomi is apparently gearing up for the launch of a new 30 inch Curved Ultrawide Monitor that will support 240Hz refresh rate display that will launch later this year.
According to an ITHomereport, the new Mi Monitor from the Chinese tech giant will launch during the 618 period in China. For those unaware, this is one of the largest mid year shopping festival in the region that was initially started by JD.com and has various brands offer special limited time offers and promotional deals. In other words, its a major shopping event in China with various customers seeking to buy new products similar to the Black Friday sale in the US.
Talking about the upcoming monitor itself, the monitor will sport a curved ultrawide panel, which has a 30 inch size. This makes it smaller than the 34 inch curved ultrawide monitor that is already available from Xiaomi. Furthermore, this new Mi Monitor is likely targeted towards gamers since it features 240Hz refresh rate as well. Unfortunately, finer details regarding this monitor is currently unknown at the moment.
The company has experience in a curved ultrawide monitor, as it already sells a 34 inch variant that launched back in October 2019. This was the brand’s first monitor and offered a resolution of 3440x1440px and an aspect ratio of 21:9. The monitor had a 1500R curvature design, 121% sRGB color gamut support, and also had 144Hz refresh rate along with AMD FreeSync support. So, we can expect certain specifications to be similar if not an overall improvement.

The ZenFone 8 series is expected to include ZenFone 8 and ZenFone 8 Pro smartphones. Both phones are expected to arrive with Full HD+ OLED screens and Snapdragon 888 mobile platform The ZenFone 8 is likely to feature a 24-megapixel front camera and 64-megapixel + 12.2-megapixel + 8-megapixel triple camera system. In Chile, the company has launched OPPO Reno5 Lite and OPPO A15 smartphones as well as OPPO Enco W51 and OPPO Enco W31 true wireless earphones. On the other hand, in Colombia, the company has launched only one device — OPPO A15 but we expect more devices will soon be launched.
ASUS has today launched its new Android-powered tablet in the Chinese market — ASUS Adolpad 10 Pro. The device is now up for pre-order in the country for a price of 1,599 yuan which roughly converts to $247.
It comes with a 10.1-inch Full HD+ IPS display that offers a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Underneath, the device is powered by the MediaTek 8183 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The MediaTek 8183 chipset was introduced in late 2019 for tablets and is manufactured using the 12nm process. It has eight CPU cores with four powerful Cortex-A73 and four small Cortex-A53 cores in a big.LITTLE configuration. The integrated graphics card is an ARM Mali-G72 with three clusters (MP3).
In the camera department, there’s an 8-megapixel sensor on the back along with the LED flash while on the front side, the tablet is equipped with a 5-megapixel snapper. The device measures 8.4mm in thickness and weighs around 540 grams.
The ASUS Adolpad 10 Pro, running Android operating system, is powered by a 7,300mAh battery that the company claims can offer up to six hours of battery life, making it suitable for consuming media content. There’s a USB Type-C port for charging.

Samsung has unveiled the Bespoke Jet Bot AI Robot Vacuum Cleaner designed to significantly improve home cleaning duties. The robot vacuum cleaner features enhanced capabilities for object recognition and adopts artificial intelligence (AI) technology which significantly improves the performance as well.
The Bespoke Jet Bot AI is capable of recognizing objects at the highest level and this is possible by pre-learning over 1 million images based on deep learning. It can distinguish several household appliances and furnitures such as TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, beds, sofas, and others. The improvements ensure the robot cleaner can also recognise small objects such as pet poop, socks, electric wires, and glass cups.
The Jet Bot AI is embbed with Intel’s AI solution known as Intel Movidius which provides an excellent object recognition. In addition, it packs the ‘Active Stereo Camera’ type 3D sensor which is a industry-first. The sensor can detect all obstacles from a distance of 1cm and above.
Further, the Samsung Jet Bot AI is equipped with two cameras that not only recognize space and objects in 3D like people but also shoot additional pattern beams. This enables sophisticated obstacle detection and spatial recognition even in situations where recognition is difficult with only the camera.
In addition, it can detect surrounding features in three dimensions at a distance of up to 1m and up to 60 degrees left and right, so it is possible to quickly and accurately identify the structure of the house for mapping the cleaning route and to detect low obstacles that are only 1cm in height.Like all known robot vacuum cleaners around, the Jet Bot AI features a LiDAR sensor similar to that used in self-driving cars. It can successfully navigate around by selecting the optimal route according to the spatial characteristics.
The robot also supports voice command as users can designate the desired area to clean with a simple voice prompt such as “Clean around the TV.” This also includes setting the areas that you need the robot to exclude. This voice prompt and other features can be selected from the SmartThings app.
Yet another amazing feature is the ability of the vacuum cleaner to automatically detect the floor type and adjust the cleaning intensity accordingly. It also automatically empties the dust bin when it is filled even if the cleaning is not completed. After cleaning, the vacuum cleaner returns to the docking station where it is charged.
Apart from cleaning duties, the Jet Bot AI can be used to monitor the pet left at home in real time. The robot is programmed to detect abnormal signs or behaviors such as bad barking or not moving for a long time and notify the user. It also features a built-in speaker and music player that can play music for the pet. Samsung partnered with a Korean pet app outfit known as Ajinyangi to pre-install 20 different songs that can be played at random. The feature is operated using Samsung Card and is available for free to Samsung SmartThings pet service users. In addition, owners can also view video content containing various information from pet health counsellor and veterinarian Seol Chae-hyun for free via the SmartThings Pet Care Service.
The Samsung Bespoke Jet Bot AI comes in five colors: Misty White, Satin Pink, Satin Blue, Soft Greenery, and Soft Sun Yellow. The product is priced at 1.59 million won (~$1,433). There is no indication if this robot vacuum will be available outside South Korea.
In November last year, Sony released the Playstation 5 in the US. Since then, the gaming console has gone on sale with the product always running out of stock as a result of the prevailing chip shortage that is bedeviling the entire tech industry. Sony revealed in February this year that it will launch the console in the world’s second-largest market – China between April and June. As expected, that launch has now happened. Sony, on Thursday, officially released the PS5 console for the Chinese market.
This is a welcomed development as it will further boost the sales of the console which already happens to be the top-selling Playstation console yet in the US despite the scarcity. It will also afford gaming enthusiasts in China the opportunity to get the console at the official price. Since the PS5 release, scalpers have consistently preyed on intending buyers in China by selling the console at neck-breaking prices after importing from Hong Kong or Japan.
The Playstation 5 console is expected to go n sale in China and it will retail for 3,899 yuan ($603) for the disc version while the digital-only PS5 will retail for 3,099 yuan ($479). The prices are higher than those of the US which starts at $399.
Sony also disclosed that it would release at least three games for the Chinese market. The games include Sackboy, Ratchet and Clank, and Genshin Impact, a popular title developed by a Chinese software developer.
Yesterday, GSMArena shared a leaked render of the upcoming Honor Play 5 smartphone. Today, popular tipster Digital Chat Station has shared the entire specifications of the device. He claimed that the Play 5 will be launching soon in China.
The tipster revealed that the Honor Play 5 engineering prototype is equipped with a 6.53-inch OLED panel that supports a Full HD+ resolution. The device measures 7.46mm in thickness and weighs 179 grams.
The Dimensity 800U chipset is present under the hood o the Honor Play 5. The device is backed by a 3,800mAh battery that supports 66W rapid charging. The rear camera setup of the device has a 64-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel secondary lens, and a pair of 2-megapixel sensors. The other details of the smartphone are under wraps.
Honor Play 5 render by GSMArena
The leaked render that emerged yesterday revealed that its display features a waterdrop notch. The back panel of the phone has a rectangle-shaped camera module. The edges of the phone appear flat, and it features a SIM card slot on the left edge and a microphone on the top edge.
The volume buttons could be present on the right side of the Play 5. It is unclear whether the phone has a side-facing fingerprint scanner or whether it is embedded under the screen. Also, the leakster did not utter anything on the pricing of the phone. It is expected to cost higher than the recently announced Honor Play 5T Youth, which was introduced with a pricing of 1,299 Yuan (~$200). The smartphone is likely to go official by early May in China.
If you do not need 5G and you want to save a lot of money while getting a perfect phone, you still have a lot of choices even in 2021. An example is the 4G variant of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite which has nothing to envy to the 5G version if we exclude the 5G support. But is it the best mid-ranger you can get right now or there are other devices at the same level which you can consider? We decided to pick two devices that we define at the same level as the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite in order to answer to this question: the Motorola Moto G40 Fusion and the OPPO F19 Pro.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 4G vs Motorola Moto G40 Fusion vs OPPO F19 Pro
If you desire the best design, you should opt for the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite: one of the reasons why you should make this choice is the fact that it is incredibly thin and lightweight. It has a thickness of just 6.8 mm and a weight of 157 grams. Further, it is dust resistant and splash resistant with the IP53 certification. The OPPO F11 Pro is thin and lightweight too, but less than the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite. On the other hand, it has a more compact body due to the presence of a smaller display. The Motorola Moto G40 Fusion is a big phablet with a not outstanding design.
Display
The most advanced display is the one offered by the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite: it is an AMOLED panel that is able to show one billion colors with the HDR10 certification and the Full HD+ resolution. It sports a diagonal of 6.55 inches and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The second place goes to the OPPO F19 Pro: it has an AMOLED panel as well, but it lacks the HDR certification, it does not show one billion colors and it does not have a high refresh rate. The Motorola Moto G40 Fusion has a 120 Hz refresh rate and HDR10, but it comes with an IPS panel with less impressive image quality.
Hardware/Software
If you want the most stunning hardware, go for the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite. It is powered by the Snapdragon 732G mobile platform paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. The Motorola Moto G40 Fusion has a Snapdragon 732G too, but unfortunately, it offers just 6 GB of RAM in its high-end configuration. With the OPPO F19 Pro, you get the Mediatek Helio P95 which is built with a worse 12 nm production process and is definitely inferior to the Snapdragon 732G, but you can get up to 256 GB of internal storage instead of just 128 GB.
Camera
All of these phones come with pretty nice cameras and they offer similar levels of photo quality. The OPPO F19 Pro has a 48 MP main camera with a brighter f/1.7 focal aperture for better shots in low light conditions. But with Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite and Motorola Moto G40 Fusion, you get a great 64 MP main sensor capturing a great level of detail, as well as 120 fps video recording with 4K resolution.
Battery
The best battery phone is the Motorola Moto G40 Fusion with its mammoth 6000 mAh battery. It has slower charging, but its battery life is much better than Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite and OPPO F19 Pro. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite takes the silver medal: despite having a smaller capacity than OPPO F19 Pro, it has a more efficient chipset.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 4G vs Motorola Moto G40 Fusion vs OPPO F19 Pro: Price
