It includes storing biometric information, collecting GPS or clipboard data, and sending or storing US users’ data outside the country.

Earlier, in 2019, TikTok had settled a lawsuit over alleged children’s privacy allegations. In the same year, it had paid $5.7 million to the Federal Trade Commission over accusations that its predecessor, Musical.ly didn’t gain parental approval for young users.

Leaker confirms Google is making a foldable Pixel phone

The foldable phone market is expected to grow this year with the addition of new players. One of the rumored big names expected to launch a foldable phone this year is Google. Now a leaker has confirmed that Google is indeed planning a foldable Pixel phone.

The info comes from Jon Prosser who is best known for his Apple-related leaks. The leaker posted a tweet that said “the google pixel fold is a real thing”. In a reply to a tweet asking when the phone will launch, he says that it will arrive late this year or early next year. Of course, when it arrives, it will go by a different name and not Pixel Fold.

Google already added support for foldable phones with the release of Android 10. The operating system has native support for foldable devices with different folding patterns. Features such as app continuity, resizable apps, and multi-window support for more than two apps are baked into Android.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Samsung will be making the foldable OLED displays for Google, Xiaomi, and OPPO. We expect the display to have a high refresh rate like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. However, we do not know if it will have a design similar to the Galaxy Z Flip or Motorola Razr or if it will be a phone that unfolds into a tablet.

Notwithstanding, We are excited to see Google’s first foldable phone as it will definitely have software features not available on other foldable phones powered by Android.

Xiaomi India: All our smart TVs and 99% of our phones are made in India

India is a very big market for several brands including Xiaomi. The Chinese technology company is not only a leader in the Indian smartphone market but has also topped the smart TV market for 10 consecutive quarters. Today, the manufacturer announced that practically all its phones and smart TVs sold in the country are made there, thanks to the Indian government’s “Made in India” initiative.

Xiaomi India factory
Xiaomi India Chief Operating Officer, Muralikrishnan B

In a post shared on its official blog, Xiaomi India said it was one of the early adopters of the current Prime Minister’s “Made in India” initiative. Some of its phones were already being made in the country via its manufacturing partners – Foxconn and Flex and it has added more over the years.

Today, it announced that it is adding two more manufacturing partners to ramp up the production of its smartphones in the country. The first is DBG which has set up a plant in Haryana while the other is BYD which will be setting up a plant in Tamil Nadu. Xiaomi says the former has already increased its monthly manufacturing capacity by about 20% while BYD is also expected to make a significant contribution once it begins operations later this year.

Xiaomi (Mi India) has not only focused on manufacturing but also on the sourcing of smartphone components. The press release revealed that key components such as PCBAs, sub-board, camera module, battery, back panels, USB cables, chargers, and boxes are sourced locally or locally made in India. Some of these components are said to be manufactured by companies such as Sunny India, NVT, Salcomp, LY Tech, and Sunvoda.

The tech giant has also onboarded a new TV manufacturing partner called Radiant Technology. The new partner has a plant located in Telangana and has helped Xiaomi achieve a 100% target of locally made smart TVs.

The addition of these new factories also means the company’s workforce has increased. Xiaomi says its partners provided employment for 10,000 new workers last year, thus bringing its extended workforce to a total of 60,000.

Realme GT 5G’s reservation exceeds one million even before launch

Realme recently announced that the Realme GT will go official on March 4. The starting price of the smartphone was also earlier today revealed by Realme’s VP to start at less than 2999 yuan (~$465). This potentially makes the device a flagship killer. The Realme GT has now been shown to reach over 1 million units in reservations. Realme GT

Although reservations don’t often translate to sales, that may not apply in this case. The  GT 5G is positioned to be a hot-selling model. The device will be powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS3.1 flash storage.

The Realme GT 5G will also feature an AMOLED screen that supports a refresh rate of 120Hz as well as 3D tempered liquid cooling system, stereo speakers, linear motors, and other impressive features.

Realme CMO Xu Qi had earlier disclosed that the Realme GT 5G will not come in a 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage version. Thus, we expect the base variant to be an 8GB of RAM model with 128 GB of storage.Realme GT

For now, we don’t have an idea of the size of the battery but the 3C certification for the GT 5G shows that it will come with 65W fast charging support. That should refuel the battery in record time if it runs flat. Yet another interesting feature is the in-screen fingerprint reader and the device also retains the 3.5mm audio jack.

Official: Redmi Note 10 series will get the 108MP camera sensor

Xiaomi has been teasing several features of the upcoming Redmi Note 10 series of devices. Ahead of the March 4 launch(India & Global), the company has confirmed that the series will feature a 108MP camera sensor.

The company, took to Twitter to confirm the camera feature on the Redmi Note 10 series. It says that the series will bring the first 108MP flagship camera. Assuming that the series will have two or more devices, it is likely that the Redmi Note 10 Pro/ Pro Max will have the flagship camera(could be Samsung’s HM1 sensor).

The company’s only other device to feature a 108MP camera in the affordable segment is the Mi 10i 5G. Either way, it looks like the 108MP game has finally trickled down to the budget devices. This is because realme has teased its own version of the 108MP camera sensor a few hours ago, and it could be on the realme 8 series.

The Redmi Note 10 series is expected to switch over to the AMOLED panel this time. Last year, the company brought the IPS LCD on the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. It didn’t even have the support for a higher refresh rate.

However, the latest hands-on leak reveals that the non-Pro Redmi Note 10 will feature a centered punch-hole AMOLED display. This means that the highest model in the series will definitely feature it.

The top-of-the-line variant in the series is expected to be a 5G device. Rumors say that it could be a Snapdragon 768G 5G chipset but there is no confirmation so far. Let’s wait for more details in the coming days.

The Redmi AirDots 3 True Wireless Stereo Bluetooth headset is the successor to the Redmi AirDots 2 which was launched last year. The design of this new version didn’t change significantly from the previous model but there are some improvements in the functions.

The Redmi AirDots 3 is driven by a QCC3040 chipset and the Bluetooth version is upgraded to Bluetooth 5.2 from Bluetooth 5.0 used on the AirDots 2. The upgraded version brings faster connection speed, improved data transmission rate, and stable connection. There is also an aptX Adaptive codec for upgraded sound quality. The earbuds will deliver up to 7 hours of non-stop music playback on a single charge which can be extended to up to 30 hours with the charging case. The charging case packs a 600mAh battery on board.

Further, the Redmi AirDots 3 supports multi-functional touch control, built-in XiaoAI voice assistant, and MIUI compatible pop-up window to enable instant viewing for connection and battery status. The storage box utilises a USB-C port which should deliver fast charging. The earbuds also come with an IPX7 rating. Redmi K40 Design

The Redmi K40 looks nothing like its predecessor. It drops the pill-shaped right positioned punch hole for a centered one. It also switches the design on the rear to one that is similar to that of the Mi 11 and with fewer camera sensors than the Redmi K30. Redmi has also managed to make it thinner and lighter even though it packs a tiny bit bigger battery.

Redmi K40 Specifications

Just as it looks nothing like its predecessor, so also does it perform better than it. The 120Hz IPS LCD display is gone and in its place is a 6.67-inch E4 AMOLED True Tone display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz touch sampling rate. The display has a DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR10+, and a maximum brightness of 1300 nits. It also has MEMC and is covered in Gorilla Glass 5. For those concerned with the size of the hole, Redmi says it is 2.76 millimeters.

The Redmi K40 gets a huge performance boost. The Snapdragon 730G of the Redmi K30 has been replaced with a Snapdragon 870 processor and it features up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Redmi K40 cameras

There are fewer rear cameras on the phone this time around. It has a 48MP f/1.79 Sony IMX582 primary camera, a 5MP telephoto macro camera with a 50mm focal length, and an 8MP 119° ultrawide angle camera. The selfie camera is a 20MP sensor.

The Redmi K40 can record slow-motion videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p and at 960 frames per second. It can also record in 4K at 30fps. The camera app is packed full of features including a VLOG mode, Magic Clone, macro video recording, and lots of filters for both still photos and videos.

Other features of the phone are a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio, and Hi-Res Audio Wireless. There is a 4520mAh battery inside the phone with support for 33W fast charging. Redmi says it can fully charge in 52 minutes. The phone also has support for Quick Charge 3+ and Power Delivery 3.0.
