Rumor: iQOO may launch two or more devices in India starting March

Early last year, iQOO was one of the first companies to launch a 5G smartphone in India. The Chinese brand introduced iQOO 3 in the country in both 4G and 5G variants. Almost a year has passed but the firm is yet to release another handset. Thankfully, the situation may improve soon, as per a new rumor.

According to Tushar Mehta of XDA Developers, iQOO, the independent brand of vivo may release two or more devices in India in the coming months starting March. He also suggests that one of them could be the brand’s latest flagship smartphone – iQOO 7.

Anyway, we would request you to consider this piece of information with a pinch of salt. Because Mehta himself says that this is merely a rumor and not a confirmed leak. However, it is worth noting that his previous tips have been accurate.

Additionally, he also says that vivo will not be debuting the vivo X50 Pro+. Instead, the handset maker will be only bringing the vivo X60 series, including the premium vivo X60 Pro+.

That said, vivo was India’s third-largest smartphone brand in Q4 2020. The company was even the largest offline brand during the same period. However, we cannot say anything good about iQOO.

Ever since its launch, iQOO 3 has been discounted multiple times. In fact, its price has been permanently dopped by a high margin. Above all, the handset was part of the Android 11 Beta program but it is yet to receive the stable update.

Having said that, we hope iQOO to make an impressive comeback since it has potential.

OnePlus Watch Design spotted on German Patent and Trademark Office

OnePlus is expected to debut into the world of Smartwatches with two products this year. Ahead of the launch, a lot of leaks about them have been appearing online. Now, another leak shows the possible design of the OnePlus Watch courtesy of Techniknews.

OnePlus has patented a Smartwatch design on German Patent and Trademark Office(GPTO). Although OnePlus hasn’t confirmed the design yet, the description of patent shows that OnePlus Technologies themselves have filed it. This suggests that the design with a round dial could be final as leaked before.

Talking about the design itself, one of the sketches shows a round dial with flouted bracelet(straps). On the right side, there are two buttons probably for UI navigation. On the back, there are sensors that could be for Heart rate, Blood Oxygen, Blood Pressure etc.

Beneath them, two contact points likely for magnetic charging are also visible. The report says that this could be the ‘Sport Version’ of the ‘OnePlus Watch’.

The second design, however, is already known to us via various leaks. This one has a frame that extends slightly outer and also has a differenet strap design. That is, we can spot a new Clip on one end of the strap whose functionality is a bit unclear at this point.

Apart from this, other areas like button placements, sensors look similar as mentioned above.

The OnePlus watch(model: W501GB) is rumored to launch sometime in March and both have received certifications already. The company will seemingly launch a watch with ‘OnePlus Watch RX’ moniker having a round-shaped dial(like OPPO Watch RX) and also a Watch with a square-shaped dial (model: W301GB).

There’s also a Cyberpunk Limited Edition in the making. For software, it is likely to host an in-house UI and not the Google’s Wear OS courtesy of leaks.

Microsoft sees an upgrade wave from Windows 7 users: Report

While Microsoft ended the support for Windows 7 back in January 2020, the older version of Windows is still going strong with a notable user base across the globe. However, despite this, the company has recently started seeing an upgrade wave as well.

Microsoft

According to a WCCFTech report, the American tech giant has supported the older version of Windows for over 10 years before finally ending support. While the company never officially shared any stats regarding the user base, data from NetMarketShare has revealed that 1 in every 4 computers was still being powered by Windows 7. Microsoft has offered a free upgrade offer to Windows 7 users. Now, a year after the company ended support, it has observed a new upgrade wave.

In other words, there has been a number of users shifting away from the now unsupported Windows version. Last month, the company stated that “In Windows, the stronger PC market resulted in overall OEM revenue growth of 1 percent, despite a strong prior year comparable in OEM Pro from the end of support for Windows 7. OEM non-Pro revenue grew 24 percent, and OEM Pro revenue declined 9 percent. Inventory levels ended the quarter in the normal range.”

Microsoft Logo Featured

At the moment, at least 20 percent of all devices are still running on Windows 7, as per NetmarketShare. Furthermore, the most number of older devices running this version of Windows belong to government and institutions, which have always been slow to switch to newer products and services despite the company offering a free upgrade plan.

Samsung Galaxy Book Flex 2

Recently, Samsung had launched new laptops like the Galaxy Book Flex 2 5G, the Notebook Plus 2, and the Galaxy Chromebook 2 as well. Apple Watch Series 5 and SE users are eligible for free repairs over Power Reserve bug

Earlier this week, Apple started rolling out the watchOS 7.3.1 for its Apple Watch Series 5 and Watch SE models. This new update would bring a fix that would prevent a bug which caused these wearable devices to get stuck in the Power Reserve mode.

Apple Watch Series 5 Featured

As per a new support document shared by the Cupertino based giant (Via 9To5Mac), the company gave out additional details regarding this bug. For those unaware, the Power Reserve mode allows users to see the time on the Apple Watch while preserving battery life. However, it shuts off the communication between users’ wearable and their iPhone. In otehr words, various features and functionalities are unavailable in this mode.

Despite the fix being rolled out, the company also announced in the document that a “very small number” of the owners of these devices have “experienced an issue with their watch not charging after it enters Power Reserve.” The OEM stated that the watchOS 7.3.1 that was recently rolled out will help prevent “this issue from happening to other Apple Watch Series 5 or Apple Watch SE devices.”

Apple Watch SE

Unfortunately, this implies that those this would only prevent anyone from receiving this bug, and not help those that are already suffering from it. But, the company is ready with a solution. Users suffering from this issue can simply contact its official support team, for a mail in repair, which will be free of charge. Although, the device will be examined before the service to verify whether or not its eligible for the free repairs, as stated by the iPhone maker.

Apple iPhone 13 could feature an Always On Display for the battery and time

Reports regarding the Apple iPhone 13 series have already started surfacing. Just yesterday, we had reported on the device reportedly featuring a portless design and astrophotography. Now, a new report has hinted at it sporting an Always On Display on its OLED display.

Apple

According to a SlashGear report, the iPhone 13 series could arrive with this feature, or it might just be available for the higher end iPhone 13 Pro variants. The 2021 iPhone lineup will reportedly feature a new display technology that will work with OLED panels to bring Always On Display functionality to the Apple devices. For those unaware, a key advantage of OLED over LCD is that these panels don’t have to display black. The pixels can simply be turned off to only light certain parts of the screen.

This enables lower battery consumption, which allowed Always On Display to be a feature on certain Android smartphones and even the Apple Watch. Known Tipster Max Weinbach stated that the Cupertino based giant might utilized an LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) panel that will enable it to save on battery draw while offering a higher refresh rate along with Always On Display as well. Although, the iPhone 13’s Always On Display wouldn’t function like most Android devices.

Apple

Apparently, the Always On Display for the upcoming iPhones would only focus on display key information like the time or the battery icons. Furthermore, notifications will only be displayed temporarily and would light up just a small section of the display without waking up the entire screen. In other words, there would probably not be a lot of customization on these smartphones. Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report, so take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates.

Smartphones with secondary screen on the back panel to launch this year, including Mi 11 Ultra

Smartphone makers are trying to come up with new and unique designs or features to stand apart from the crowd. Recently, foldable smartphones became mainstream and we have also seen devices with more than one display.

Now, the popular leakster ‘Digital Chat Station’ claims that there will be at least two smartphones getting launched this year which will feature a secondary display on the phone’s back panel.

Second Screen Smartphones Report

Recently, Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi 11 Ultra was leaked online and the image revealed that there is a smaller secondary screen beside the camera sensors on the phone’s back panel, housed inside the horizontal rectangular slab.

We’ve seen a few smartphones in the past that feature a small secondary screen that showcases information such as notifications, time, weather, etc. A few years ago, Meizu had launched its Meizu Pro 7 that had a secondary screen on the back panel, along with the camera module.

Mi 11 Ultra Secondary Screen Leak
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra Secondary Screen Leak

It will be interesting to see what Xiaomi has planned for the secondary screen on the upcoming Mi 11 Ultra smartphone. It also remains to be seen if any other smartphone brand follows with similar offerings. The Mi 11 Ultra is expected to get launched next year, so we’ll have to wait a few more weeks to know more about it.

Last year, Huawei had also patented a smartphone design that features a secondary screen on the phone’s back, along with the camera module. But it is not yet known if the company has any plans of making such a smartphone anytime soon.

Xiaomi-based Redmi had been teasing the upcoming Redmi Note series smartphones, which is the most successful lineup from the brand. Today, Redmi India has confirmed that the Redmi Note 10 series will be officially launched on 4th March.

Apart from confirming the launch date, the company has not revealed anything related to the upcoming smartphones. However, a recent leak had revealed that the company could launch four devices in this lineup — Redmi Note 10, Note 10 5G, Note 10 Pro 4G, and Note 10 Pro 5G. To know for sure, we’ll have to wait a couple of weeks.

Redmi Note 10 Series Launch Date India

There are also reports claiming that the Redmi 10X 5G, which was launched in China last year, could be launched as Redmi Note 10 in India. The device, powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 820 SoC, is currently limited to China.

Recently, Redmi India hosted a poll on its Twitter account asking users their preference for the display of Redmi Note 10 — LCD + 120Hz or AMOLED. Around 88 percent chose the AMOLED screen but the company deleted the poll.

The Redmi Note 10 series smartphones will be sold exclusively through Amazon India, just like its predecessor. While not much is known about the phones, it’s safe to assume that we will get upgraded design and configuration compared to the Redmi Note 9 series. The launch is just a couple of weeks from now, so we expect the company to start teasing specs and features in the coming days.

Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone to reportedly come with support for stylus

Apple has been working on a foldable iPhone for a few years now and now it seems that the project is moving ahead with a possible launch in a couple of years. As the project is developing, more details about the device have started surfacing online.

In the latest report, it is being said that the device will now come with support for a stylus but it is not yet clear if the smartphone will support the current Apple Pencil or come with a completely new stylus.

Apple Foldable iPhone Concept

Recently, it was reported that the Cupertino-based giant has finalized a clamshell design for the foldable iPhone, which is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. It is said that the company will be using a Ceramic Shield glass which will be chemically treated, enabling it to handle a significant level of tolerance when it is folded or unfolded.

It is also reported that the foldable iPhone from Apple will be affordable compared to other similar offerings in this segment. But given that the device is expected to launch in 2023, it makes sense as the cost of components required for the foldable smartphones will come down by then. There’s also a possibility that the phone’s launch could get pushed further away if the company faces any hardware or production issues.

Meanwhile, Apple is also focusing on its ‘Project Titan’ which is an autonomous electric vehicle that is being referred to as Apple Car. The company held talks with several automakers, including Hyundai, Kia, and Nissan, but it has not been able to find a partner.

However, the latest report coming from XDA-Developers hints that Google may be working on a new design for the Android operating system. As per the report, the company has marked the new notification UI changes as the start of the “road to Material NEXT” UI.

For those who are unaware, “Material” is a design library from Google which has improved a lot since its initial launch. Most of the Google applications are using Material design. However, it is not yet known what changes does the “Material NEXT” design includes but it seems to be significant changes if the leaked images are anything to go by.

Apart from the design-related changes, Google is also planning to introduce several new features to the Android 12 operating system, including new layouts and features for the Always-On Display and Lock Screen.

From the leaks so far, it appears that the company is primarily focusing on notifications user interface and changes to the Quick Settings panel. There also seems to be a “letterbox” feature which is a new way to put apps into a frame/window.

DJI FPV Combo drone appears in unboxing video ahead of launch; full specs leaked too

Back in December, pictures of the DJI FPV racing drone surfaced on the web. It has been more than two months now and DJI is still yet to take the wraps off the drone. Now, an unboxing video of the drone has been posted on YouTube.

The video was posted on the YouTube channel SpiderMonkey FPV (seems to have been originally recorded by Dominion Drones) and it leaves nothing to the imagination as to what to expect when it is finally announced. The video shows us the drone and the accompanying FPV goggles and the new FPV controller which comes in a different color from the other two.

From the video, one can see that this is not the retail unit as there is a “NOT FOR SALE” and “DISPLAY DEMO” sticker on the box. The drone itself has a main gimbal camera for recording and four other smaller cameras (two downward-facing ones) whose function is presumed to be for detecting obstacles.

The controller that ships with the drone can pass for a game controller though with a pretty large antenna. It charges via USB-C and there are slots on the handles to store the joystick buttons.

There is a short FPV flight clip that shows the drone in action.

The spec sheet which was posted on Twitter by @JasperEllens reveals that the drone has a 12MP f/2.86 1/2.3” CMOS camera with a 150° field of view. The camera has an ISO range of 1-3200 and can record in both FHD and 4K.

The drone weighs approximately 795 grams and packs a 2000mAh battery capacity that supports a maximum charging power of 90 Watts. The maximum flight time is stated to be 20 minutes while flying at a consistent speed of 40km/h. The controller is a little under half the weight of the drone at 346 grams and it has a maximum transmission distance of 10 kilometers (with no obstruction).

As of the time of writing, there is no info regarding when the drone will be finally unveiled.
