Samsung has immense experience in various technologies including consumer electronics, networks, semiconductors, cameras, displays, and more. Out of these, it has mastered the display department with technologies like QLED(Quantum dot LED). And now, it’s asserting that it has developed yet another industry-leading QLED tech.
Samsung’s research has been published by the journal ‘Nature‘ recently(via Sammobile). It says Samsung has developed a cadmium-free blue Quantum Dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) technology. Samsung’s R&D hub SAIT(Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology) has done the research. Further, the report says the new tech has 20.2% improved luminous efficiency, offers maximum luminance up to 88,900 nits, and 16,000 hours of QLED lifetime. However, the lifespan is measured at 100-nit luminance half brightness.
What is a Quantum Dot display?
A Quantum dot display uses quantum dots, semiconductor nanocrystals which can produce pure monochromatic red, green, and blue light. Now, for the unware, Quantum Dots are nanoparticles that manufacturers are adding to the layers(sandwiches) of films, filters, glass, and electronics that make up a display. Ranging between two to ten nanometers, when they are hit by a light wave, they emit color. However, they differ depending on size. Larger dots lean towards red, and smaller dots towards green.
What is a QLED TV?
QLED is basically a Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode(QLED). Accordingly, QLED TVs are the ones that have the dots inside a film and an LED backlight as a light source. After hitting the film, the light then travels other layers including a liquid crystal (LCD) layer, to create the picture. It’s then transmitted to the screen surface as visuals.
Samsung says the Blue QLED has the largest bandgap among the three primary colors(Red, Green, and Blue). It rapidly oxidizes on exposure to an external light source which results in a shorter lifespan and low luminous efficiency.
Samsung’s solution
Samsung says the Quantum dots are made up of a basic structure of a core, a shell, and multiple ligands. Hence, it had to stabilize the QD materials better and achieve reliable photoresponse functionality. Accordingly, the researchers applied a structure with Quantum Dot double emitting layers and shorter ligands on the surface of the blue-light-emitting QDs whilst improving the injection rates.
Samsung recently launched QLED TVs with high energy ratings in South Korea. In addition to QLED, Samsung is also working on mini-LED and is targeting around 2 million mini-LED TV sales in 2021.
Xiaomi has just launched a new product earlier today (21st October 2020). It is the Mi Water Purifier H600G that arrives with a dual outlet design with a starting price of 1899 Yuan (roughly 285 US Dollars).
The new Mi Water Purifier H600G uses a 600G high flux RO membrane, and it only takes 6 seconds to fill a glass of water. According to official notes, the RO reverse osmosis membrane offers a six stage filtration that can filter out rust, bacteria, lead and other impurities. This filter can also absorb residual chlorine and other odors from the water.
Xiaomi Mi Water Purifier H600G is also equipped with a dual outlet faucet, with the water being filtered in the left through a composite filter element, which can be used for washing fruits and vegetables, other kitchen utensils, and more without using the RO reverse osmosis membrane filter element. The new water purifier is also a smart home product, which means it can be paired with the MIJIA app. Through the app, users can check water quality, filter life, and other information in real time.
Android 11 is just over a month old at this point and is slowly rolling out for various smartphones. While the new OS arrives with improvements and other new features, it is also plagued with a couple of bugs. An annoying one, in particular, prevents applications from going into fullscreen.
At the moment, there are several minor bugs that surface in the relatively new and latest Android version. This includes glitchy media controls, issues with multitasking, and now a bug that affects mobile games, that do not completely go into fullscreen. In other words, the navigation bar from the bottom can still be found on one of the sides while the status bar is also visible on the top.
This makes for a very inconsistent experience and can also lead to mistaken inputs quite often. Usually, a media app like YouTube or a mobile game like PUBG Mobile takes up the entire screen and the status and navigation bars are only seen after a swipe or a system prompt. But with the new Android OS, it is ever present even during intense gaming or a simple movie session. This wouldn’t have been such a major problem, but the fact that crucial UI aspects from various applications are covered by these bars.
Image Via AndroidPolice
Currently, there is no particular fix to this issue. However, certain users have found success in closing and restarting the application. Although, this also depends on the app in question. The bug is also reflected in custom skins like the One UI 3.0 from Samsung, as per an AndroidPolicereport. Unfortunately, it seems that people had reported this bug to Android Issue Tracker but since they couldn’t reproduce the it, the case has since been closed. So stay tuned for more updates and hopefully a fix is one the way.
OnePlus is raining smartphones since it altered the strategy with a T-lineup, and Nord. It’s been just a week past the OnePlus 8T launch, and we already have rumors of the company launching more Nord Smartphones in the coming days. Add to this, a new tip from Android Central suggests that the next OnePlus flagship series, supposedly the OnePlus 9, will launch four weeks earlier than expected.
The report says OnePlus is planning to prepone the launch of the next flagship series(OnePlus 9 tentative). Accordingly, sources for Android Central say that the OnePlus will hold a launch event sometime around mid-March of 2021. However, there is no exact information on the launch date yet. Although this seems like an all-over-the-place kind of strategy, it is understandable that OnePlus is trying to streamline its launches. And in turn, give a breather for the number series to sell more.
Right from introducing the OnePlus 3T, OnePlus is launching two flagship series every year. One with number series, and the other, T series. Recently, it expanded to mid-range smartphones with the OnePlus Nord series as well. Also, if we take the launch window of the OnePlus number series, OnePlus 7 launched around May, and 8 around Mid-April. Similarly, if we look all the way back, 3T began the series sometime in November 2016. But the latest 8T has come a month earlier in October 2020.
Although OnePlus is adjusting the gap between the T and Number lineup to its best, the introduction of Nord changes the game. And, if you look at it this way, if OnePlus launches its flagship in March, it can compete with companies like Xiaomi, Samsung who are generally known to launch flagships in Q1, are also preponing their launches a bit. Samsung is looking for an early January launch of the Galaxy S21 series(tentative), and Xiaomi is already in the race to make it’s Mi 11(tentative) the first smartphone with Snapdragon 875 SoC.
OnePlus 9: Expected Specifications
That said, nothing is known about the 9 series yet except for its codename “Lemonade“. Being a flagship lineup, the OnePlus 9 series will surely have the next Snapdragon 8 series SoC(probably Snapdragon 875), AMOLED display with at least a 120Hz refresh rate, a minimum of 65W charging(or more), SA/NSA 5G, may have a 64MP camera sensor(long-awaited), and more.
Vivo is officially landed in the European market! And while doing it, the company also launched a new upper-midrange smartphone. The first Vivo phone launched in Europe is the Vivo X51 5G: it does not carry an affordable price tag, but it has great potentialities, especially on the camera side. Is it actually better than the latest upper-midrange phones and flagship killers released by other top manufacturers in the global market? In order to let you find out, we decided to publish a specs comparison between Vivo X51 5G and its BBK rivals which went global in the last period: OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G and OnePlus 8T.

Design
The Vivo X51 5G has a stunning design, but the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is actually more stylish. It is a thinner and lighter phone, it has a more invisible camera module, elegant color variants (including the limited Green Glitter version), a curved screen and very narrow bezels around the display: it is one of the sleekest phones of the year. Right after, we got the Vivo X51 5G with its curved display and a still thin and lightweight body. OnePlus 8T lacks a curved screen and it is definitely less elegant than its two rivals.
Display
While Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G come with more attractive aesthetics, the OnePlus 8T has a better display. It is not a top-tier display like the one found on the OnePlus 8 Pro, but it is still amazing with its high 120 Hz refresh rate (OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G and Vivo X51 5G stop at 90 Hz) and the HDR10+ certification. The Vivo X51 5G and the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G are more or less at the same level when it comes to the display, but OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G mounts stereo speakers, while the audio of the Vivo X51 5G is mono. In each case, you get an AMOLED panel with an in-display fingerprint reader.
Hardware/Software
The OnePlus 8T is the winner of the hardware comparison and one of the most powerful flagship killers in the market. It is powered by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform which is currently one of the best flagship chipsets out there, while Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G are fueled by the upper-midrange Snapdragon 765G mobile platform. All the phone feature memory configuration up to 12/256 GB, but the OnePlus 8T has a faster UFS 3.1 internal storage, while OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G and Vivo X51 5G have UFS 2.1 memories. Last but not least, the OnePlus 8T runs Android 11 out of the box, while Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G are still based on Android 10.
Camera
OnePlus 8T loses the camera comparison and, while it retains pretty nice camera capabilities, we do not consider it a high-end camera phone. It is a hard fight between Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G, at least on paper. The Vivo X51 5G has better zoom capabilities (up to 5x optical zoom!) and a very nice portrait lens, and it should also offer better stabilization (thanks to gimbal OIS). The OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G seems to offer better video recording capabilities thanks to its 12 MP dedicated ultrawide video camera.
Battery
OnePlus 8T has the fastest charging technology, but it is not said that it will last more than Vivo X51 5G in every scenario because it has a less efficient display and an external 5G modem, unlike the Vivo handset. OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G has a smaller battery than its rivals but it charges faster thanks to its 65W SuperVOOC technology. OnePlus 8T supports 65W fast charging as well, but due to its bigger battery, it needs more time to fully charge.
Price
Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G are priced at €799/$947 globally (12/256 GB), while OnePlus 8T starts from €599/$710 (8/128 GB). There is no definitive winner in this comparison: if you are looking for higher performance and a more interesting display, go for the OnePlus 8T. If you want the best design, stereo speakers, and faster charging, get OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G. Both OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G and Vivo X51 5G are amazing camera phones: with Vivo X51 5G you get a bigger battery than OPPO Reno4 Pro, but it lacks stereo speakers and it has slower charging speeds (33W).

Regulators in Sweden have banned the use of telecommunications equipment from Chinese providers, Huawei and ZTE. This arrives just prior to the government’s auction of the 5G networking spectrum that is scheduled for November 2020.
The Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) have stated that the license conditions followed assessments by the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Security Service. This is another example of European nations reviewing the role of Chinese companies in building their networking infrastructure, which follows after the initial ban from the US government.
According to an Aljazeerareport, Chinese brands have been faced with various accusations regarding national security and espionage in recent times. Furthermore, the US government has also pressured other nations to follow suit with the ban, which was the case with the UK that is planning on replacing all Huawei equipment from the country’s infrastructure by 2027.
Unfortunately, Huawei and ZTE have yet to provide a statement regarding this matter. Additionally, the PTS has asked the companies that are taking part in the auction to remove Huawei and ZTE from existing in the central functions by 1st January 2025. So stay tuned for more updates.
The new Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max is apparently equipped with a 3,687mAh, which is about 7 percent smaller in capacity when compared to the previous year’s iPhone 11 Pro Max.
According to a MacRumors report, a regulatory filing published by TENAA that listed the iPhone 12 Pro Max with a 3,687mAh battery capacity which is smaller than the 3,969mAh battery found in the iPhone 11 Pro Max. This listing also found that the highest end variant of the latest flagship from Apple features 6GB of RAM. For those unaware, Apple generally refrains from divulging information regarding its RAM and battery capacity in its products.
The Cupertino based giant has filed many products with TENAA over the years, and these have generally been known to be fairly accurate. Despite having a marginally smaller battery, Apple’s official claims have the iPhone 12 Pro Max have a similar battery life to the iPhone 11 Pro Max, with both smartphones offering up to 20 hours of video playback and up to 80 hours of audio playback. Although, the newer A14 chipset might be a factor in this regard.
Reliance Jio is partnering up with Qualcomm to bring 5G solutions to India. The Mukesh Ambani owned brand will work with the American chipmaker to accelerate the arrival of 5G in the region.
According to a Bloombergreport, the Indian telecom giant and its owned Radisys Crop will partner with Qualcomm to “fast track the development and roll-out of indigenous 5G network infrastructure and services in India.” The announcement arrived earlier this week, in the form of a joint statement. At the moment, India has yet to auction its 5G bandwidths.
Notably, Ambani has been preparing for the next generation of telecom networking through its in-house technology. Meaning, it would take the company lesser time to adopt the newer system, unlike its competitors as per the billionaire himself. This also means that Jio is safe from political disputes, especially in regard to Chinese equipment providers like Huawei and ZTE.
For those unaware, China’s Huawei and ZTE are set to be shut out of India’s 5G trials. Furthermore, Ambani has also expressed interest in selling the new technology to other telecom operators if it is rolled out successfully. Among other carriers, Reliance Jio is quite new in the market, but in just a few hours years, has grown to become the 2nd largest telecom operator in the country by a number of users. Its initial investment had focused on 4G networking and is now shifting towards 5G as well.
Lenovo has just launched multiple different products earlier today (21st October 2020). This includes the new ultrabook Xiaoxin lineup and the new Yoga series as well, which includes the Yoga 13s, Yoga 14s, and Yoga 14c.
Yoga 13s and Yoga Pro 13s Carbon
The Yoga 13s 2021 lineup includes the new Yoga 13s and Yoga Pro 13s Carbon. Both laptops feature a 13 inch display with a 2.5K resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:10. Under the hood, an Intel Core i5-1135G7 powers both laptops, which also feature a similar memory configuration with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage.
The major difference between both variants is that the latter feature a Carbon Fiber body, which likely adds to the cost and makes the laptop lighter. The Lenovo Yoga 13s is priced at 5,499 Yuan (roughly 826 US Dollars) while the Yoga Pro 13s Carbon is priced at 6,299 Yuan (roughly 946 US Dollars). They will start pre orders from 1st November 2020, with the first sales starting from 11th November 2020.
Yoga 14s
The Lenovo Yoga 14s is a bit unique among the 2021 Yoga lineup as it arrives in both an Intel Tiger Lake variant and an AMD Ryzen 4000 series processor as well. The former features an i5-1135G7 processor with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, while the latter features a similar memory configuration but with a Ryzen 7-4800H processor.
Thus, the pricing between the two also varies with the higher core clock on the Ryzen 7 version being priced at 5,899 Yuan (roughly 886 US Dollars) while the Intel version costs 5,699 Yuan (roughly 856 US Dollars). The Intel variant also sports Nvidia’s GeForce MX450 GPU, while the AMD one would likely feature its integrated Vega GPU. Notably, both laptops feature a 2.8K (2880x1800px) 14 inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate.
Yoga 14c
The Lenovo Yoga 14c is another laptop in the Yoga 14 series of laptops, which is aimed at delivering powerful performance in a small form factor. It arrives in two variants, with the base model having an Intel Core i5-1135G7 while the higher end variant sports an i7-1165G7. The processors are paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage a well.
Both laptops do not feature a discrete GPU, and will likely sport integrated graphics from Intel, which has vastly been improved with the new Tiger Lake architecture. The i5 version is priced at 5,999 Yuan (roughly 901 US Dollars), while the i7 version is priced at 6,999 Yuan (roughly 1051 US Dollars).
The Redmi 10X 5G was introduced in China along with its siblings Redmi 10X 4G and Redmi 10X Pro 5G in May. Today, the company announced that the phone will be available for purchase with a discount of up to 400 Yuan (~$60) in the homeland.
The 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage base model of the Redmi 10X is no longer available for purchase. At launch, the 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage versions of the Redmi 10X were priced at 1,799 Yuan (~$270), 2,099 Yuan (~$315), and 2,399 Yuan (~$360).
These three variants are now available with revised price tags of 1,499 Yuan (~$225), 1799 Yuan (~$270), and 1,999 Yuan (~$300). It comes in blue, gold, white, and purple colors.
Flanked with Gorilla Glass 5 panels on front and rear, the Redmi 10X 5G has a 6.57-inch IPS LCD FHD+ panel with a teardrop notch. The 20:9 aspect ratio is integrated with a fingerprint reader. The Dimensity 820 chipset powers the phone. It has a shared SIM slot for adding a microSD card.
The Redmi 10X 5G has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. Its rear has a 48-megapixel + 8-megapixel (ultrawide) + 2-megapixel (depth) triple camera system. It comes with 22.5W fast charging support for its 4,520mAh battery.
As expected, Xiaomi has officially launched Mi Box 4S in China for only 289 yuan ($43). Yesterday, the company revealed only certain highlights of this product but today, its entire specifications are out. Unfortunately, just as we predicted, it does not bring any hardware upgrade.
That means it is powered by the same 64-bit quad-core Amlogic S905X chipset with 4 x ARM Cortex-A53 cores and Mali 450 GPU. The amount of RAM and internal storage is also similar at 2GB and 8GB respectively.
The latest streaming box from the Chinese tech giant supports video playback up to 4K 60fps (H.265), HDR, Dolby Audio, and DTS Sound. The remote control is the same minimal one included with all the Mi TV products with a voice assistant key and microphone.
As for connectivity, the device comes with dual-band WiFi 5, Bluetooth 4.3, 1 x HMDI 2.0, 1 x USB 2.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, and power input. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with PatchWall UI on top of it.
If this product ever makes its way to global markets, it will run Android TV Pie like the Mi Box S/Mi Box 4K. Anyway, it probably won’t launch outside China as the new model does not make sense over the previous model.
Having said that, in its home country, Xiaomi sells Mi Boxes in White color. In fact, the new Mi Box 4S only comes in White color. The company should bring this color option to other regions as well.

Lenovo, the known consumer electronics maker, has just announced its latest lineup of ultrabook laptops in China. The new Xiaoxin Air series includes the Air 14 2021, Pro Air 14 2021, and Air 15, all of which feature Intel’s latest 11th Gen processors.
Xiaoxin Air 14
The Xiaoxin Air 14 is the base variant within the lineup and arrives with a 14 inch display. Although, Lenovo is clearly aiming these laptops for productivity as its 1080p panel sports 100 percent sRGB color gamut. Under the hood, a 56.2Wh battery powers the device that also houses an Intel Tiger Lake i5-1135G7 processor along with Nvidia GeForce MX450 GPU.
For memory, 16GB of DDR4 RAM clocked at 3200MHz is also offered alongside 512GB of SSD storage, with the usual connectivity options like USB 3.2, HDMI 1.4b, 3.5mm audio jack, and a Type C port for charging as well. The laptop weighs just 1.38 kilograms and measures in just 16.9mm at its thickest. It is priced at 5,299 Yuan in China (roughly 796 US Dollars) and is currently available for pre-bookings while the first sale starts from 1st November 2020.
Xiaoxin Pro 14
The Xiaoxin Pro 14 is a higher end laptop within the series. This laptop features a couple of similar specs to the Air 14 but offers a few notable features as well. While the display size remains the same, its screen features a higher resolution 2240 x 1400px resolution that has an aspect ratio of 16:10. This also has a 100 percent sRGB color gamut.
The Lenovo ultrabook is powered by a larger 61Wh battery that is charged by a 95W power adapter but features mostly the same external ports and connectivity options including Wi-Fi 6. Furthermore, it also arrives with 16GB LPDDR4X RAM, which is clocked at a higher 4266MHz. It is priced at 5,799 Yuan in China (roughly 871 US Dollars) and is currently available for pre-bookings while the first sale starts from 1st November 2020.
Xiaoxin Air 15
As the name suggests, the Xiaoxin Air 15 is the only laptop in the series to sport a 15.6 inch display while maintaining its thin and light design. The panel features a 1080p resolution with 100 percent sRGB color gamut as well, while the entire laptop weighs a slightly heavier 1.7 kilograms and measures 16.9 mm at the thickest. Under the hood, a 70Wh battery powers the device.
Similar to the previous two laptops, it also features Intel’s Tiger Lake chip, along with Nvidia GeForce MX450 for graphics. However, it arrives in two variants, namely the i5-1135G7 and the higher end i7-116G7 processor, which is paired with 16GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM. One area where Xiaomi threw in a surprise is the use of a 144Hz LCD screen instead of a high refresh rate OLED screen. In case you are wondering why, a Xiaomi executive has elaborated on the decision to go with LCD in an interview with TechRadar.
Xiaomi’s product marketing manager Daniel Hoang Desjarlais reportedly stated that; “It is better to have a high-quality LCD, the best of the best LCD, versus a middling sort of AMOLED.”
The Xiaomi exec also mentioned eye strain as a reason to opt for LCD tech though. “There are issues with AMOLED and certain peoples’ eyes – I think it’s like 10% of the population, when looking at an AMOLED display, experience very heavy eye strain,” Mr Hoang Desjarlais is reported to have said.
However, adducing eye strain as an excuse is not really tenable considering that DC dimming has come to the rescue in that regard. The Mi 10T series is considerably cheaper than other flagship models and it is believed that other factors like pricing are also responsible for the adoption of LCD panels in the Mi 10T series.
In addition, Mr Hoang Desjarlais also elaborated on why they opted for a flat screen rather than a curved panel, noting that the majority of users preferred the former option.
“I’ve done quite a bit of polling and user research on this,” the executive was quoted as saying, “60% of users prefer the flat edge, or flat displays,” the Xiaomi exec added.
We can attest to this as an independent poll conducted by Gizmochina back in February also shows a large number of respondents prefer the flat panel.
