Huawei’s Android-independent HarmonyOS NEXT runs Android apps just fine! Here’s How

Huawei’s HarmonyOS NEXT operating system (which powers the Mate 70 series) has been creating a buzz recently for its bold step away from Android. As the first version of Huawei’s OS to not rely on Android AOSP (Android Open Source Project), many users assumed it would be limited to the native HarmonyOS apps available in Huawei’s AppGallery.

This was seen as a potential downside since Huawei‘s app store doesn’t offer as vast a selection as Google’s Play Store. However, new developments reveal a surprising twist—HarmonyOS NEXT devices can indeed run Android apps, and here’s how.

Android emulator “EasyAbroad”

How HarmonyOS NEXT runs Android apps:

Although HarmonyOS NEXT does not use any Android code, instead relying on the Harmony kernel, it still manages to run Android apps. A beta tester recently shared on Reddit that an Android emulator called “EasyAbroad” can be found on Huawei’s AppGallery. This emulator was designed specifically for Huawei users working outside of China, who need access to Google Mobile Services (GMS) to use popular Android apps like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Google Maps, and more.

With the “EasyAbroad” tool, users can install these Android apps directly onto their HarmonyOS NEXT device, though with some limitations. The Android apps are contained within a separate app store that appears as a folder on the home screen. While users can run these apps from within the folder, they cannot place them as regular icons on their main screen. Additionally, users may encounter issues with receiving notifications from those Android apps, which could affect the overall experience.

The key behind this functionality is microG, a free, open-source replacement for Google Play Services, which allows Android apps to function without requiring a Google account or direct connection to Google’s servers. This solution ensures that most Android apps run smoothly, even without access to the full Google ecosystem.

This development is significant for Huawei users, as it provides a workaround for the limited app ecosystem available on HarmonyOS NEXT. While Huawei’s AppGallery is growing, it still lacks the extensive range of apps found on Google’s Play Store. The ability to run Android apps means that users can enjoy the best of both worlds: the exclusive features of HarmonyOS, combined with the ability to emulate Android apps that are not on Huawei’s platform yet.

Realme GT Neo 7 price leak
Realme GT Neo 7 price leak

Before its launch, the Realme GT 7 Pro was spotted with a price tag of 3,499 Yuan (~$550), but it debuted at 3,599 Yuan (~$496). Similarly, the Realme Neo 7 has now been spotted with a price of 2,498 Yuan (~$345), Like the GT 7 Pro, the Neo 7’s could arrive with a 400 Yuan cheaper price tag. Therefore, it is probable that the Neo 7’s base model will retail for 2,098 Yuan (~$290) or 2,00 Yuan (~$275).

The TENAA certification of the Neo 7 revealed that it will be available in 6 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB, and 16 GB RAM variants and 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB storage versions in China. However, Realme Vice President, President of Global Marketing, and President for China, Xu Qi Chase, has confirmed that the Neo 7’s base variant will come with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Camera FV-5 listing reveals a Disappointing detail

leaks and rumors continue to surface about Samsung‘s much anticipated Galaxy S25 Ultra. One of the most recent updates comes from the Camera FV-5 platform, which has revealed key details about the camera system. As the flagship model in Samsung’s Galaxy S-series, the S25 Ultra will include a quad-camera setup, an upgraded chipset, and the signature S Pen support.

Galaxy-S25-Ultra-2

Camera specifications revealed

The latest certification listing on the Camera FV-5 platform confirms that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature a 12.5MP camera. The camera will have an equivalent focal length of 23.2mm, an actual focal length of 6.3mm, and and aperture of f/1.7, offering excellent light capture capabilities. Judging from the focal lengths, we can say that this is the 200MP main sensor, which uses 16-1 pixel binning for 12.5MP output, just like last year.

As you can expect, the main camera will include support for both Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and OIS for stable video recording and motion blur-less images. According to the listing, the main sensor supports a wide ISO range of 12-3200, and a manual exposure range of 1/11,977 to 1/6.

The listing also shows support for both JPEG and DNG picture formats, with auto and manual focusing options. However, the Camera FV-5 listing only mentions one sensor and more details on the other cameras are yet to be fully confirmed.

The 200MP main sensor (expected to be the same sensor as S24 Ultra) is rumored to be paired with a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens (up from S24 Ultra‘s 12MP ultrawide), a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x zoom. This is rather disappointing that there are no major changes in camera hardware except from the ultrawide.

What else to expect?

Beyond the camera updates, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to come with significant upgrades in other areas as well. The device will ship with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset across all regions, providing faster performance and better efficiency. Additionally, there are rumors that the phone will be available with a new 16GB RAM option, offering more multitasking power than the 12GB option available on the S24 Ultra. If true, it will mainly benefit the processing of on-device AI features.

Another notable change is the design of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is almost confirmed to feature rounded corners similar to the other models in the lineup for better grip. Dummy units also suggest a slightly narrower overall profile, which, again, makes it more comfortable to grip.

Samsung Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra configurations leaked, Ultra variant receives NBTC certification

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S25 series of smartphones in January 2025. With few weeks remaining for the launch, the S25 models are expected to surface in different certification platforms across the globe. In a new development, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has emerged in the database of the NBTC certification platform of Thailand. At the same time, a reliable leaker has revealed the configurations of the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra NBTC certified in Thailand

As can be seen above, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has emerged with model number SM-S938B/DS in NBTC’s database (via. stufflistings). To recall, the Galaxy S24 Ultra appeared in NBTC’s database in November 2023 before debuting in January 2025. Therefore, it is very likely that S25 Ultra may break cover in January 2025.

In related news, leaker Arsène Lupin has revealed that the Galaxy S25 will be available in 128 GB and 256 GB storage choices, and the S25+ will arrive in 256 GB and 512 GB variants. The S25 Ultra is tipped to come in three storage choices, such as 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. The leak does not specify the RAM details for these phones. However, it appears that the entire lineup may offer 12 GB of RAM.

Another source, Jukanlosreve, has claimed that the 256 GB variant of the S25 Ultra will have 12 GB of RAM. On the other hand, the 512 GB and 1 TB variants will have 16 GB of RAM. The S25 Ultra is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. There have been reports that the S25 and S25+ will also have the Snapdragon 8 Elite, but there’s a possibility that both phones may arrive with the Exynos 2500 chip in some markets or all regions.

One UI 7 beta program

The long wait finally comes to an end as Samsung has already begun distributing the first One UI 7 beta, based on Android 15. There are very few recipients now, but the list should be longer in the coming days and weeks.

One of the most exciting features of One UI 7 is the new live activity pill “Now Bar” on a revamped lock screen. There are also new app icons, a new camera interface, smoother animations, and more flexibility in widgets. One UI 7 beta separates the notifications and quick panel, depending on which part of the status bar you’re swiping down from — left of the selfie camera for notifications and right for quick settings. A host of Galaxy AI features are also there. Plus, there is improved PC integration with the ability to use your phone as a webcam, among many other changes.

One UI 7 is an exciting upgrade, but the stable rollout isn’t happening until early 2025. However, the One UI 7 beta program lets you enjoy the newest software ahead of the public release. Here, we’ve shared two ways to get One UI 7 beta on your Samsung Galaxy.

10. Run this command to boot your phone into recovery:

adb reboot recovery

11. Using the volume down button on your phone, navigate to Apple update from ADB and press the side/power button.

12. Run the following command to sideload One UI 7 beta ZIP:

adb sideload update.zip

13. Wait for the process to finish.

Your Samsung Galaxy S24 should boot into One UI 7 beta within a few minutes.

So, these are two ways to install One UI 7 beta on the Galaxy S24 series. If you face any trouble during the installation, share your query in the comments below. We’ll try to respond at the earliest.

Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing

The Mate 70 Pro comes in a well-organized box, containing the essential accessories: a SIM card pin, manual, clear PC case, USB-C to USB-C cable, and a 100W charger. As you can see, the charger still uses Huawei’s unique two-in-one port. The contents are neatly packed, and overall, the unboxing experience sets the tone for the premium device that lies ahead.

2. Design and build

Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design

The Mate 70 Pro continues Huawei’s legacy of excellent design. While the device’s rear camera module bumps up slightly more than expected, the overall design is sleek and harmonious. notably, the phone has a rounded frame that’s comfortable to hold.

The Mate 70 Pro has also earned IP69 certification, offering both high-temperature and high-pressure waterproofing.

The phone’s battery capacity has increased to 5,500mAh, and the wireless and wired charging capabilities have been slightly upgraded from the Mate 60 Pro. However, the fingerprint sensor has been relocated from under the display to the power button. While this may seem like a downgrade, the 3D TOF face unlock feature remains intact, providing another reliable unlocking option that most Android devices lack.

3. Performance: the new Kirin 9020 chipset

The Kirin 9020 chipset is an upgrade in both CPU and GPU frequencies. While the overall boost isn’t groundbreaking, it delivers a smooth experience for day-to-day tasks. 4. HarmonyOS NEXT:

Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT

The HarmonyOS NEXT update marks a significant shift in Huawei’s ecosystem, with the operating system now resembling iOS in many ways and being independent of Android. However, it comes at the cost of some freedom, as AOSP apps cannot be installed. Huawei users outside of China can rest easy, though, as the EMUI version (for global markets) will continue to be used globally, ensuring full compatibility. Here’s more about how HarmonyOS NEXT is different from Android.

5. Display and camera:

Telephoto macro shot

The Mate 70 Pro features a quad-curved display with support for 600 nits of manual peak brightness and up to 1,600 nits in high-brightness mode. The screen provides vibrant colors, fitting nicely into the flagship category.

On the photography front, Huawei has made significant upgrades. The Mate 70 Pro now includes an ultra-wide camera with higher resolution, a telephoto camera with a larger aperture, and an ultra-chroma camera for more accurate white balance. In our tests, the camera performed exceptionally well, producing stunning macro shots thanks to its telephoto lens. The added detail and color accuracy make the Mate 70 Pro one of the best camera phones on the market.

6. Conclusion: big upgrades with small changes

In conclusion, the Huawei Mate 70 Pro brings major upgrades in areas like camera performance and system enhancements, while other aspects, such as the design and display, see minor tweaks.

Watch our full unboxing and hands-on video for a more detailed look at the Mate 70 Pro in action. If you’re considering a Huawei smartphone, the Mate 70 Pro may just be the phone to beat.

Realme’s 8,000mAh battery phone could be in works, while iQOO, Redmi, OnePlus developing 7,000mAh battery phones

Later this week, Realme will launch the Realme Neo 7, an affordable flagship phone, in China. The major attraction of this device is that it packs a massive 7,000mAh battery.  New leaks by well-known tipster Digital Chat Station reveal that multiple brands are planning to launch 7,000mAh battery phones in China. He has also revealed that one of the brands is considering launching an 8,000mAh battery phone.

Realme considers launching 8,000mAh battery phone

As can be seen above, DCS has revealed that Realme may launch a phone with an 8,000mAh battery in the future. Currently, it is still in the verification phase and might not be finalized. He also revealed that iQOO, Redmi, and OnePlus are gearing up to launch 7,000mAh battery phones.

Based on information sourced from the supply chain, DCS revealed that an upcoming iQOO phone will come with a battery of around 7,000mAh capacity. Additionally, it will sport a high-resolution 2K LTPS Samsung flat display equipped with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Unfortunately, the tipster did not reveal the name of the device. The mysterious phone is expected to launch in 2025 in China. At present, there is no information about the 7,000mAh battery phones from Redmi and OnePlus.

Recently, iQOO launched the iQOO 13 with a 6,000mAh battery, and Realme unveiled the Realme GT 7 Pro with a 5,800mAh battery in India and some other markets. These phones have slightly smaller batteries compared to their Chinese counterparts. The iQOO 13, available in China, packs a 6,150mAh battery, whereas the Realme GT 7 Pro features a larger 6,500mAh battery. It is unclear whether the reduction in battery size outside China could be due to regulatory constraints.

The Realme Neo 7 and other phones with 7,000mAh batteries are expected to launch in markets outside of China. It remains to be seen whether their global versions will arrive with the same battery size or if it will be reduced due to various factors.

The included accessories, such as the barbell, smart grips, and heart rate band, connect wirelessly for a seamless workout experience.

A personalized approach to fitness

One standout feature of the K1 is its comprehensive body assessment. It uses the built-in camera and AI to evaluate your body composition, flexibility, and strength based on ACSM standards. From this assessment, it creates a personalized workout plan tailored to your fitness goals and abilities.

This plan evolves with your progress. The K1 tracks your form in real-time with AI-powered motion analysis and offers visual and audio cues to ensure safe and effective exercise. Its built-in motor dynamically adjusts resistance levels to simulate the feel of free weights.

The K1 boasts several smart features designed to enhance your workout experience. The AI-powered motion analysis system tracks your movements and provides real-time feedback on form and technique. This virtual coaching not only ensures you’re performing exercises correctly but also helps prevent injuries.

Unsurprisingly, the K1 also has a variety of workout programs, including weight training, cardio, yoga, and even Pilates. Many of these programs incorporate AI support, with adjustments made to the resistance levels based on your performance.

The K1’s compact design allows for easy storage when not in use. When folded, it occupies a mere 0.3 square meters of space, making it ideal for apartments or homes with limited space.
