Both devices pack cutting-edge technology and impressive specifications into their sleek frames, offering users an exceptional mobile experience without the bulk of larger smartphones. Under the hood, the Xiaomi 15 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, coupled with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Its 5,400mAh battery supports 90W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. Additionally, it introduces magnetic wireless charging, making it a versatile powerhouse.

It comes with a larger 5,700mAh battery that supports 90W wired charging and 30W wireless charging. While the wireless charging speed is slower compared to the Xiaomi 15, the larger battery capacity gives it a slight edge in endurance.

3. Camera Capabilities

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the advanced camera systems on both devices. The Xiaomi 15 sports a Leica-engineered rear camera setup: an OIS-enabled 50-megapixel OmniVision Light Fusion 900 main sensor, a 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN1 ultra-wide snapper, and a 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN5 telephoto camera with floating focus, 3x optical zoom, and OIS. 6. Global Launch

Global smartphone enthusiasts will be pleased to know that both the Xiaomi 15 and Vivo X200 Pro Mini are preparing for international debuts. The Vivo X200 and X200 Pro have already received certifications in multiple global markets, indicating that their release outside of China is imminent. However, there is still uncertainty about whether the X200 Pro Mini will join its siblings on the global stage.

Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro have just launched in China as the world’s first Snapdragon 8 Elite phones, with a global release expected in the first quarter of 2025. Like the previous series, the Xiaomi 15 Pro may remain exclusive to China, while the compact Xiaomi 15 is anticipated to reach multiple markets worldwide.

7. Final Thoughts

The Xiaomi 15 packs a powerful processor, Leica-engineered cameras, and versatile charging options. On the other hand, the Vivo X200 Pro Mini counters with an even brighter display, a good processor, a unique camera system, and a larger battery. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual preferences and priorities. The Xiaomi 15 may eventually have an edge if the X200 Pro Mini remains confined to the Chinese market. Is Honor Magic 7 Pro really better than Magic 6 Pro?

The Honor Magic 7 series launched in China yesterday, introducing numerous new features. However, when compared to its predecessor, it remains quite similar in many aspects. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the key improvements the Honor Magic 7 Pro offers over the Magic 6 Pro.

Honor Magic 7 Pro

1. Display

The Honor Magic 7 Pro maintains the 6.8-inch OLED display with an LTPO 120Hz refresh rate found on the Magic 6 Pro, along with a peak brightness of 5000 nits. Both models also feature Honor‘s signature 4320Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, designed to reduce flicker and enhance eye comfort. In this regard, both phones share nearly identical display specifications.

2. Performance

Performance-wise, the Honor Magic 7 Pro leverages the Snapdragon 8 Elite 3nm processor, featuring an Octa-core architecture up to 4.32GHz and paired with Adreno 830 GPU, which is a step up from the Magic 6 Pro’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with an Adreno 750 GPU. These upgrades translate into faster processing and enhanced graphical capabilities, especially noticeable in high-end mobile gaming or intensive multitasking.

The Magic 7 Pro improves upon the Magic 6 Pro’s cooling system with advanced self-developed RF and energy efficiency chips, along with a sophisticated cooling setup. This includes a waterfall 3D dual-engine stainless steel VC, graphite sheets, and 9W thermal conductive gel, covering over 30,000mm² for enhanced heat dissipation.

3. Software

The Magic 7 Pro runs on Magic UI 9.0, built on Android 15, bringing the latest Android and AI features. Meanwhile, the Magic 6 Pro operates on Magic UI 8.0, based on Android 14 out of the box, though it is upgradable to Android 15.

The Magic UI 9.0 introduces the YOYO Agent, an upgraded AI assistant for streamlined task management. This OS also debuts AI Deepfake Detection, helping detect deepfakes during video calls for added security. Additionally, the enhanced Magic Portal allows users to interact with objects by circling them, enabling quick access to relevant services.

4. Camera

The camera system has received a significant upgrade in the Magic 7 Pro. Both devices feature a 50MP wide main camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera, but the Magic 7 Pro replaces the 180MP periscope telephoto camera on the Magic 6 Pro with a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. This new sensor enables 3x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, making it ideal for capturing distant subjects with impressive clarity. In addition to optical image stabilization (OIS), the Magic 7 Pro’s telephoto camera offers higher resolution and detail capture, particularly beneficial for users interested in photography.

Both the Honor Magic 7 Pro and Magic 6 Pro feature a 50MP front camera paired with a 3D TOF depth sensor, enhancing depth accuracy for improved portrait effects and 3D face unlock. The Magic 7 Pro additionally supports 4K video recording at 60fps on both front and rear cameras, catering to users focused on high-quality video content creation.

The Honor Magic 7 Pro also elevates photography with the Honor Image Engine 3.0, which includes advanced models for portrait refinement, light and shadow enhancement, snapshot improvement, and telephoto optimization. It also enhances HD continuous shooting and introduces AI-powered Harcourt Portrait Modes for ultra-high-definition images.

5. Durability

Both the Honor Magic 7 Pro and Magic 6 Pro sport IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance, but the 7 Pro enhances durability with IP69 in specific conditions.

With regards to form factor, the Magic 7 Pro is slightly lighter than the Magic 6 Pro due to a slimmer battery design. This results in a marginally thinner profile, making it more pocket-friendly.

6. Battery and Charging

Battery life is another area where the Honor Magic 7 Pro makes modest adjustments. It houses a 5850mAh battery compared to the 5600mAh battery in the Magic 6 Pro. While both models support 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging, the Magic 7 Pro come with an updated efficiency chip Honor E2, meaning it can sustain high performance with less battery consumption.

7. Connectivity

Both phones bring 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, and NFC, ensuring fast and stable connections. The Magic 7 Pro, however, includes Beidou satellite communication support for real-time voice and two-way text services on its 1TB variant.

8. Conclusion

Both the Honor Magic 7 Pro and its predecessor, the Magic 6 Pro, are quite similar in terms of core hardware, sharing a high-quality display, durable design, and comparable camera setups. The primary upgrades lie in the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a slight battery boost, and a more advanced GPU, enhancing performance and power efficiency. Additionally, the telephoto lens has seen an upgrade to 200MP, and new software features have been introduced, all without a price increase. If you’re considering an upgrade, the Magic 7 Pro is a clear choice for added power and functionality.

Honor has also launched the Honor Watch 5 in China, featuring a 1.85-inch AMOLED display, GPS, and advanced health features. Alongside it, Honor unveiled the Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design with a supercar-inspired metallic texture.

According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung accounted for a 23 percent market share in Q3 2024, contributing significantly to the Indian smartphone market’s highest-ever value achieved in a single quarter. This growth reflects a 12 percent year-on-year increase in value, driven by the premiumization trend and aggressive marketing strategies such as EMI offers and trade-ins.

Senior Research Analyst Prachir Singh highlighted that Samsung’s dominance is due to its focus on high-end Galaxy S series devices and the introduction of Galaxy AI features in mid-range and affordable premium models within the A series. This approach has encouraged consumers to upgrade to higher-priced segments, thereby boosting the company’s market value.

The volume of smartphones sold also saw a 3 percent year-on-year increase, aided by the early onset of the festive season. Manufacturers ensured that retailers were well-stocked in anticipation of a surge in festive sales, although the sales commenced at a slower pace compared to the previous year.

In line with its strategic market manoeuvres, Samsung has also launched enticing offers on its latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. As part of a limited-period festive offer, consumers can purchase the Z Fold 6 for as low as Rs 1,44,999 with a 24-month no-cost EMI option. Similarly, the Z Flip 6 is available for just Rs 89,999 with the same EMI plan. These devices are originally priced at Rs 1,64,999 and Rs 1,09,999 respectively.

For added consumer assurance, Samsung has slashed the price of its Galaxy Z Assurance program to just Rs 999. OnePlus 13 specifications (expected)

The OnePlus 13, as recently listed on TENAA, is set to feature a 6.82-inch OLED display with a 2K resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display will also include an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor. In China, the device will run on Android 15 with ColorOS 15.

AI features are also expanding within photography tools. We are getting a new “Live Effects” feature that will add depth to photos, while there will also be a variety of AI-generated artistic effects that will improve portrait photos specifically.

Finally, AI Zoom is said to utilize the Pro Visual Engine to maintain clarity even at high zoom levels of up to 100x.

The leak also mentions further development of the Sketch to Image feature, first launched with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. It uses AI to turn user sketches into art. Currently, it offers styles like 3D Cartoon, Sketch, and Watercolor, but new options are reportedly on the way.

2. Security and User Management

For parents out there, One UI 7 will include a dedicated parental control suite. This feature will reportedly enable parents to restrict app usage and website access for their children. It will add an extra layer of control over online activity. The update may also include a location tracking feature, though details are still limited.

The leak mentions the Energy Score feature, first introduced with Samsung’s latest foldable, will further help users “become more aware of their health effects and daily life.” Along with this, wellness tips are included to guide users in improving their Energy Score for a healthier lifestyle.

Google may give Pixel 11a and Pixel Tablet 3 an inferior Tensor SoC with downgraded AI performance

While we’re still waiting for Google to officially unveil the Pixel 9a (and the Pixel 10a feels like a distant dream), rumors are already swirling about devices even further down the line – specifically, the Pixel 11a.

According to a recent leak, the Pixel 11a, which is expected for released in 2027, might not boast the same level of processing power as its flagship siblings.

The leak also hints at a shift in Google’s tablet strategy, with new Pixel Tablets launching every two years. This would position the Pixel Tablet 3 for a 2027 release alongside the 11a.

Tensor SoC with inferior TPU on Google’s affordable 2027 products

Reportedly, both the Pixel 11a and Pixel Tablet 3 will use the same Tensor chip as the flagship Pixel line. The catch, however, is that Google may fuse off defective parts of the TPU to salvage chips that would otherwise be discarded. These modified chips would then power the more budget-friendly Pixel 11a and Pixel Tablet 3.

The TPU is a crucial component of Google’s on-device AI processing. It powers features like Magic Eraser and Live Translate. Using chips with inferior TPU capabilities could impact AI performance in these models, possibly resulting in slower processing for AI features or even missing functionalities compared to flagship devices.

The hardware differences aren’t limited to models from three years ago. The Pixel 9a will reportedly have a downgraded modem compared to the Pixel 9 series. This new leak suggests Google might be continuing this trend of offering hardware differentiation between its flagship and budget lines.

However, it’s still 2024, and these devices are three years away. Google’s plans could shift, and chip technology may advance significantly by then.

On a positive note, the leak suggests that the Pixel Tablet 3 may include an extra USB-C port with DisplayPort output, which would allow users to connect multiple displays for a more desktop-like setup.

OxygenOS 15 Open Beta Now Available for OnePlus 12: Key Details and How to Apply

OnePlus has launched the Android 15-based OxygenOS 15 Open Beta program for its flagship OnePlus 12, inviting early users to preview upcoming features and improvements. This program offers a first look at the future of OnePlus’s operating system, although, as a beta version, users may experience some stability issues and bugs.

OnePlus 12 OxygenOS 15

What the Open Beta Offers

The Open Beta allows OnePlus 12 users to try new software features before the official release, providing a valuable opportunity to experience innovations firsthand. However, beta versions may have certain instabilities, so users could encounter issues like performance interruptions, app compatibility limitations, and occasional crashes.

To join the beta program, OnePlus 12 owners need to be on software version CPH2573_14.0.0.850(EX01). The enrollment steps are simple:

  1. Go to Settings > Software Update.
  2. Tap the icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select “Beta program” > “Release candidate, update now.”

It’s worth noting that the program has a limited number of spots, and participation is first-come, first-served.

Benefits and Considerations

While getting early access to new features is exciting, users should be aware of possible risks. Beta versions like OxygenOS 15 are often less stable than official releases, so users might experience issues like overheating, slower performance, and app crashes.

OnePlus advises backing up important data before joining the beta. In case of issues, users can roll back to the stable version, although this process is more involved than a standard update and requires manually installing a separate package, which will delete all data on the device.

Is the Open Beta Right for You?

Joining the Open Beta program depends on personal preferences and needs. For those who enjoy exploring new features and giving feedback to developers, the beta is an interesting opportunity. However, for users who rely on a consistently stable device for daily tasks, waiting for the official release may be the better choice.

In the end, choosing to join the OxygenOS 15 Open Beta program is up to each OnePlus 12 user. You can check out 7 features you can look forward to if you do decide on participating in the beta program.
