5 phones you can buy instead of Samsung Galaxy S22

Samsung Galaxy S22 alternatives

Samsung Galaxy S22 is a solid flagship phone from 2022. It’s packed with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, a high-quality screen, and stunning triple rear cameras. The Ultra model, in particular, is special because it’s the first Galaxy S-series phone to feature an S Pen slot, and since then, it has become a tradition for all Galaxy S-series’ Ultra models.

While the Galaxy S22 is still a good pick, there are better alternatives in the market that will give you more bang for your buck. So, here are the top 5 alternatives to Galaxy S22 you can consider:

The Galaxy S23‘s screen has a higher peak brightness and features tougher Gorilla Glass protection, although the screen size is unchanged. It is more powerful, thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The camera specs are largely the same, except for a higher-resolution selfie camera.

Samsung has made the battery a little bigger. However, the charging speed is stuck at 25W (wired) and 15W (wireless). For quicker charging, you can get the Plus and Ultra variants, which also have a higher battery capacity.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is, of course, the most impressive device here, featuring a 200MP main camera, dual telephoto cameras, and a 12MP ultrawide shooter. It has the biggest battery among the S22 models, offering more screen time. Since the Galaxy S24 series is already out, its predecessor is available at a sweet discount from the launch price.

The Moto G Stylus (2024) is a cheaper alternative to the Galaxy S22 Ultra with stylus support. It has a slightly smaller display than the S22 Ultra but bigger than the vanilla S22. However, to bring the cost down, Motorola hasn’t added any protection to either side, and the device also lacks any IP rating.

The Moto G Stylus, though, runs a more recent version of Android out of the box. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, which is popular among entry-level phones. The Motorola device has a decent rear camera setup, featuring a 50MP primary sensor and a 13MP ultrawide sensor. For selfies, it has a 32MP camera that can record up to 1080p videos.

The smartphone has decent connectivity features. The battery comes in at 5,000mAh, which should last a day, at least, and supports faster charging than the Galaxy S22.

Apple and Samsung have been fierce competitors for years, and hence, it makes sense to include iPhones in the list. And it’s the only non-Android brand if you want to make the switch.

The A15 Bionic chip powers the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, whereas the Pro models get a more powerful A16 Bionic chip, but you’ll have to spend plenty of cash. All iPhone 14 models are IP68-certified and have a strong build quality. They also have great OLED displays.

The regular iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have a 12MP primary camera, while the Pro models feature a 48MP primary camera. The Pro models also have the advantage of an additional telephoto camera for stunning zoom shots. However, they share the same 12MP selfie camera.

The Plus and Pro Max models have the biggest battery capacity, 4,323mAh, while the other two have a 3,200mAh capacity. However, all of them have the same charging capabilities — 15W (wireless) and 15W (wired).

Lenovo Legion Y700 (2024): 3 Reasons to Get Excited About This Gaming Tablet

After various teasers, Lenovo had finally unveiled the Legion Y700 (2024) gaming tablet in its home market of China. This new tablet packed some high end hardware for the best gaming experience on a large screen. With its global debut nearing, here are 5 reasons you should be excited about this Legion gaming tablet.

1. Lenovo Legion Y700 (2024): Gaming is More Fun on a Bigger Display

Lenovo Legion Y700
Lenovo Legion Y700 Gaming Tablet

While the Legion Y700 isn’t the largest tablet out there, the 8.8-inch screen here is bigger than any smartphone. Furthermore, you can’t have a massive screen as it might make touch controls harder for gamers. In any competitive title, the size of your screen and refresh rate can have an impact on your performance. A bigger screen allows for better visibility while a higher refresh rate directly improves latency with your inputs.

Lenovo packs the Legion Y700 with a tall 8.8-inch LCD screen that offers a 2.5K resolution (2560x1600p) along with a 165Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of peak brightness, and TÜV Rheinland certified for low blue light and flicker-free performance. So the tablet ensures the least amount of strain on users’ eyes during long gaming sessions as well.

Thanks to the new Super Control Dynamic screen, the smoothness of the screen can be raised by 4.1x, while reducing flare by 96.5%. Lenovo’s proprietary Lingjing Engine also reduced touch latency by 32.2% and helps lower network latency by 45.8% for a competitive edge in online multiplayer games.

2. Top Notch Gaming Performance

Lenovo equips the Legion Y700 (2024) gaming tablet with Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This is the same processor that powers many flagship Android smartphones. It is paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. All of this combines to offer an impressive gaming performance. Lenovo showcased the gaming performance in various titles across different genres like turn based and RPG games.

While the exact title wasn’t revealed, the Legion Y700 (2024) managed to run a 3D turn based mobile games at 59.8 FPS at 2560×1600 resolution. Meanwhile, the RPG title managed to run an open world game with an average of 59.9 FPS with a render resolution of 1728 x 1080 resolution. Genshin Impact is a notorious title that can be played on the smartphones and tablets, but is usually enjoyed on PCs for a better experience overall. However, the game was seen running without any hitches on the new Legion gaming tablet.

3. Cooling & Complete Package

As hardware gets more powerful, there is more heat being generated inside mobile devices. The Legion Y700 is no exception, especially considering it houses the Snapdragon 8 Gen3 chipset. However, Lenovo packs the gaming tablet with a robust cooling mechanism. The Legion Y700 (2024) houses a massive 10,004mm² vapor chamber for optimal thermal dissipation, which is quite useful during gaming.

Despite being a gaming tablet, the Legion Y700 is a complete package. Take away the gaming features and it is still a great high-end tablet. A large 6,550mAh battery pack powers this device, which promises to offer 14.6 hours of video playback and up to 8.9 hours of gaming. You also get 68W wired fast charging. The tablet runs on the Android 14 OS based ZUI 16.1 custom skin out of the box. The rear features a 13-megapixel camera, while the front houses an 8-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calls. Other notable features include dual stereo speakers from JBL with Dolby Atmos support, Bluetooth 5.1, expandable storage video microSD card, and DC dimming.

Nothing OS 3.0 preview shows revamped UI, AI-based app management, and more

Nothing today officially launched the open beta for Nothing OS 3.0, based on Android 15. Phone (2a) users can join the beta immediately, while the beta will be available for Phone (2) in November. In December, the program will open for Phone (1), Phone (2a) Plus, and CMF Phone 1.

Although the company hasn’t gone into detail about the updates and features, looks like Mishaal Rahman from Android Faithful got an early look at Nothing OS 3.0. Based on his findings, it looks like the new OS is bringing a significant UI overhaul along with smarter app organization, and several feature enhancements.

Nothing OS 3.0: Here’s what you can expect

One of the most noticeable changes in Nothing OS 3.0 is the refreshed user interface. The notification and Quick Settings area has received a visual overhaul, adopting a more refined and dynamic aesthetic.

While it has the familiar stock Android feel, Nothing has infused its unique design language to create a cohesive and visually pleasing experience. The Quick Settings tiles have been redesigned to be resizable, allowing for greater customization and flexibility.

The Settings app has also been reorganized to improve navigation and accessibility. Key features have been grouped into distinct sections, making it easier to find the desired settings.

Additionally, Nothing has introduced new features such as a dedicated “Special features” section, which includes options for gestures, RAM booster, and game mode.

Customization options have also been expanded. Users can now change the system font, customize the lock screen with more flexibility, and even use AI-powered app drawer organization. The Smart App Drawer leverages artificial intelligence to categorize apps based on usage for a more intuitive and personalized experience.

Moreover, the pop-up view, which allows opening apps in a floating window in Nothing phones, now has buttons at the top to minimize the tab or to close it.

Inheriting Android 15 Features

As Nothing OS 3.0 is built on Android 15, it naturally inherits several new features introduced by Google. These include the ability to archive apps to free up space, adjust color contrast for improved accessibility, run basic device diagnostics, and set the Google Home Favorites page as the screen saver.

Additionally, Nothing OS 3.0 offers a dedicated shortcut to quickly access lock screen customization options, support for partial screen sharing during recording or casting, and native support for passkeys.

The update also brings several minor changes, including a “Current” card in the wallpaper picker that shows the user’s current wallpaper and opens the wallpaper editor upon tapping.

For a detailed look at Nothing OS 3.0, you can check out the original story from Android Faithful. Also, keep in mind, this is just the first beta, so more features are likely to be added in future releases.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Dimensity 8300 Ultra: Key Differences

Both chips have eight cores and are built on TSMC’s 4nm process node. However, they have different cores and core clusters. For instance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 features one Cortex-X4 prime core, which offers great performance and is highly efficient but is absent on the Dimensity 8300 Ultra. Rather, the Dimensity chip relies on four Cortex-A715 cores for performance, and the other four are Cortex-A510 power-efficiency cores.

In addition to a Cortex-X4, the Snapdragon chip has five Cortex-A720 high-performance cores and two Cortex-A520 power-efficiency cores. Clearly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has the advantage of higher-performance cores with better power efficiency, which should give a significant performance advantage.

Both chips have their version of GPUs: Adreno 750 on the Snapdragon chip and Mali-G615 MC6 on the MediaTek chip. The former does have better performance retention and supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing technology. So, you’ll have a better gaming experience on devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 than Dimensity 8300 Ultra.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has an X75 5G modem with 10 Gbps peak download speed, while Dimensity 8300 Ultra’s modem only has a peak download speed of 5.14 Gbps. Also, the former chip supports Wi-Fi 7, which is lacking on the other chip.

The two chips also differ in camera capabilities. The Snapdragon chip gets you an 18-bit Image Signal Processor (ISP), whereas the Dimensity chip has a 14-bit ISP. However, the latter supports a 320MP single camera (vs. 200MP on the Snapdragon chip), but it’s not a big thing, to be honest.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Dimensity 8300 Ultra: Verdict

Both Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 8300 Ultra are high-performance chipsets. However, the former chip has significantly better CPU and GPU performance. So, for gaming and high-performance tasks such as video editing, you’d want to get a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 device. However, for light usage, both the chips would work absolutely fine. In fact, you’d be able to save some money by getting a Dimensity 8300 Ultra device, but only if high-end gaming and video editing are not your thing.

iPhone 17 Pro tipped to introduce three unusually vibrant colors

Apple opted for some vibrant color options for the non-Pro iPhone 16 models. But a new leak hints at unusually vibrant colors for next year’s Pro iPhones. According to leaker Majin Bu, the color options chosen for the iPhone 17 Pro might include Teal Titanium, Green Titanium, and Dark Green Titanium.

While the adoption of the mentioned colors for next year’s Pro iPhones is still uncertain, the leaker suggests a higher likelihood for Teal Titanium. This is because the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus already offer a similar option—Teal.

However, it’s also worth noting that Apple typically doesn’t offer its Pro iPhones in vibrant color options, which makes this rumor particularly intriguing. Could Apple be shifting its strategy? At this point, it’s uncertain. For context, the iPhone 16 Pro models are available in Black, White, Gold, and Gray colors.

Apple is seemingly making major changes to the iPhone 17 lineup

Notably, it seems like Apple is making some major changes to multiple aspects of the upcoming iPhones. For instance, the iPhone 16 Pro models are rumored to offer another button refresh. The company is reportedly working on a new button that can replace the Action button and volume buttons.

Speaking of the cameras, the iPhone 17 Pro Max was rumored to be the first iPhone to feature three 48MP cameras. The iPhone 17 lineup could also include a new ‘Air’ or ‘Slim’ model that, unlike the non-Pro iPhone models so far, finally features a 120Hz refresh rate.

Apple has seen softer demands for the iPhone 16 series devices. So will the iPhone 17 lineup finally offer something interesting that grabs the attention? Well, only time will tell.

In terms of performance, Apple will likely focus on more advanced AI features and pack a chipset that can handle the workload. The phones are also rumored to pack 12GB RAM, which again, is crucial for more advanced AI features. Aside from more RAM and a slightly more capable chipset, the iPhone 17 lineup could also feature a proper cooling system for better-sustained performance.

Top 5 foldable phones to watch in 2025

Foldable phones are rapidly evolving, with 2025 set to bring some of the most innovative and advanced models to date. Advancements in hinge design, display technology, and software optimization are converging to create a new generation of foldables that are more durable, powerful, and user-friendly than ever before.

As the competition intensifies, major players like Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and others are gearing up to release cutting-edge foldable devices that could redefine the smartphone market. Here’s a look at the top five foldable phones to watch in 2025.

1. Huawei Mate X6

Huawei Mate X5
Huawei Mate X5

The Huawei Mate X6 is expected to debut in November 2024 in China. It may hit the global markets in 2025. Unfortunately, there is no concrete information about the X6’s specifications. However, since the brand recently launched the Mate XT, the world’s first tri-foldable smartphone, the Mate X6 is expected to receive a lot of attention from phone enthusiasts worldwide.

According to a recent Weibo post by reliable leaker Digital Chat Station, the supply chain for the Huawei Mate X6 is ramping up, indicating increased production orders. This suggests that Huawei is strengthening its position in the high-end, 10,000 Yuan+ (~$1,415) smartphone market. The Mate X6 is expected to be released around November, and there are no competing products anticipated to launch at the same time. The only potential competition is a foldable device (likely the Oppo Find N5) powered by the Qualcomm SM8750, which is expected to be released in Q1 of next year, with most other foldables following in Q2 or Q3.

2. Oppo Find N5

Oppo Find N3
Oppo Find N3

Oppo is reportedly working on the successor to last year’s Oppo Find N3 foldable phone. As per reports, the company may adopt the Oppo Find N5 for its next foldable phone, possibly avoiding the number “4” due to cultural superstitions in Asia, and may be branded as the Find N5 instead of the Find N4. It is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2025.

The Find N5 is anticipated to be one of the first foldable phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite (aka. Snapdragon 8 Gen 4). It will likely feature a 2K+ resolution screen, a 50-megapixel Sony triple camera with a periscope lens, and a 6,000mAh battery, marking a significant improvement from its predecessor’s 4,800mAh battery. The device will boast a thinner, lighter design with enhanced durability and some level of waterproofing, running ColorOS 15 based on Android 15 in China. The device is also expected to have wireless charging.

3. OnePlus Open 2

This Find N5 is expected to launch in China and other Southeast Asian markets, while it could be rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 in regions like India and the US. The specifics about its availability in Europe remain unclear.

4. Vivo X Fold 4

Vivo X Fold 3 Pro
Vivo X Fold 3 Pro

Our recent report revealed an upcoming Vivo device with model number V2429 will debut in the market as the Vivo X Fold 4. According to recent leaks, it will be one of the first foldable phones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite (aka Snapdragon 8 Gen 4) chipset. The device is anticipated to feature a circular camera module on the back, comprising a triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor and a periscope telephoto lens.

The Vivo X Fold 4 will sport a silicon battery with an approximate capacity of 6,000mAh and will support wireless charging. It will also boast an IPX8 water resistance rating. When folded, the phone will have a thickness of about 8.x mm, and the fibreglass variant will weigh around 21x grams. As far as the launch is concerned, it is expected to break cover as in Q1 or Q2 2025.

The existing X Fold 3 series includes two models, such as the Vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro, that are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 chipsets, respectively. While the existence of the X Fold 4 has been confirmed, there is no clarity whether there will be a Pro variant.

5. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

Samsung has been launching foldable phones since 2019. The brand, which is currently leading the foldable smartphone market, is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in July 2025. At present, it is too early for the rumor mill to leak concrete details about it.

Considering that the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s design closely resembles its predecessors, Samsung may introduce the Z Fold 7 with a new design. With competing brands offering top-notch cameras on their foldable phones, it is likely that the Z Fold 7 will come with an improved set of cameras. The previous iterations from the Z Fold 3 to the Z Fold 6 have featured a 4,400mAh battery. Hopefully, the Z Fold 7 will arrive with an increased battery size.

Redmi gaming tablet with Snapdragon 8-series chip in works

Redmi unveiled the Pad Pro in May 2024 in China. Equipped with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, it is the most powerful tablet from Redmi. However, a new Weibo post by a reliable leaker reveals that the brand is working on a gaming-focused tablet.

Redmi gaming tablet in works

DCS released a Weibo post in August to reveal that Redmi is working on a flagship tablet with a compact design and an LCD screen. At that time, he claimed that the device was in the prototyping phase. He also claimed that the device will break cover in 2025.

DCS appears to be discussing the same device in a recent Weibo post. This time, he asserts that the device will prioritize gaming and feature a Snapdragon 8-series chipset.

In terms of performance, the upcoming Redmi gaming tablet may outperform the upcoming Xiaomi Pad 7 series of flagship tablets. The Pad 7 lineup is expected to include two models, such as the Pad 7 and Pad 7 Pro. According to reports, these devices will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets, respectively. Both produces are expected to feature 11.16-inch LCD panels.

Nubia has recently launched a gaming tablet dubbed the Red Magic Nova in China. It features a 10.9-inch LCD panel, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version chipset, and a 10,100mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. It went official with a price tag of 3,999 Yuan (~$565) in China.

The upcoming Redmi gaming tablet could be a similar offering. Hopefully, more details of the device will surface in forthcoming reports. In related news, Redmi is also working on the Redmi K80 series of smartphones, which is likely to include the Redmi K80e, Redmi K80, and Redmi K80 Pro smartphones. These devices may feature the Dimensity 8400 (upcoming), Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipsets, respectively. The K80 lineup is expected to break cover in November in China.

Oppo Find X8, vivo X200 could offer improved on-device AI thanks to Dimensity 9400’s powerful NPU

Several 2024 flagship smartphones are expected to launch this month, with many powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 chipset. In line with current trends, these brands are integrating numerous AI features into their custom skins, most of which are based on Android 15. But what about AI processing capabilities? According to official sources, the Dimensity 9400 is specifically designed to meet the demands of AI processing.

The chipset supports Google’s Gemini Nano with multimodality, featuring an 8th-generation NPU that offers hardware acceleration for text, image, and speech processing. This reportedly results in a 41% boost in AI capabilities compared to its predecessor. MediaTek has partnered with Google to ensure smartphone manufacturers can integrate more AI features, aiming to enhance user experience.

On-device processing ensures user privacy reduces network dependence

One key advantage of this improved NPU and support for on-device AI processing is enhanced user privacy and security, as more data will be processed locally rather than relying on cloud servers. On-device AI also reduces dependence on network connectivity for feature functionality.

Speaking of the implementation, Vivo’s Android 15-based OriginOS 5 custom skin is rumored to include AI-powered features such as voice transcription, real-time translation, beauty filters, and even AI-controlled NPCs to enhance gaming experiences. OriginOS 5 will debut with the vivo X200 series this month, powered by the Dimensity 9400.

Similarly, the Oppo Find X8 series, also featuring the Dimensity 9400, is expected to introduce new AI features like the “AI Note Assistant”, designed to simplify information storage and retrieval.

That said, the implementation of AI features still depends on the smartphone manufacturers and there’s not much information about the Android 15-based custom skins yet.

Aside from its powerful NPU, the Dimensity 9400 also brings substantial CPU and GPU improvements. The chipset is rumored to have a 1+3+4 core cluster consisting of a Cortex-X925 prime CPU core clocked at 3.626 GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores clocked at 2.80 GHz, and four power-efficient Cortex-A725 (or Cortex-A720) cores.

The Dimensity 9400 is fabricated using TSMC’s N3E (3nm) process node, which is expected to be 30% more power efficient than its predecessor.

These devices were powered by the Dimensity 6020, Dimensity 6080, Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (for Pro and GT models), respectively. As far as the X60 lineup is concerned, it will at least include three models, such as the Honor X60, X60 Pro, and X60 GT. However, the GT model may debut a bit later this year.

Snapdragon 8 Elite chip could launch first on OnePlus 13, hints official teaser

The race to launch the first smartphone powered by Qualcomm‘s next-generation chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, has taken an unexpected turn.

While rumors have long been hinting that the Xiaomi 15 series will be the first to debut with the new Snapdragon chip, now it seems the OnePlus 13 might be the first to do so.

The plot twist comes from a teaser video posted by Snapdragon on its official Weibo account. The video doesn’t reveal much about the chipset itself, except that it will have Oryon CPU cores.

The main highlight, though, is a smartphone with a circular camera island in the top-left corner. It’s easy to guess this is a OnePlus phone, as this design has been a hallmark of OnePlus since the OnePlus 11.

Is OnePlus 13 the first to launch with Snapdragon 8 Elite?

Digital Chat Station, the reputable tipster has also weighed in to add some interesting details. First, they confirmed the official name of the next-gen chip—Snapdragon 8 Elite (though the Chinese translations may suggest “Extreme Edition,” that’s just a mistranslation).

More interestingly, the tipster pointed out that the phone shown in Qualcomm’s teaser is a Snapdragon 8 Elite prototype with a design similar to the OnePlus 13. This naturally raises the question—could OnePlus be the first to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Elite?

OnePlus 13 with Snapdragon 8 Elite

Even the tipster refrains from outright confirmation. DCS states, “It’s not hard to doubt it, so can OnePlus get the first release?” This leaves room for interpretation.

It’s important to note that this remains speculation, and neither OnePlus nor Qualcomm has officially commented on the launch timeline for the Snapdragon 8 Elite or the device featured in the teaser.

However, the wait for confirmation shouldn’t be long, as we are likely to see the first Snapdragon 8 Elite phone, whether from OnePlus or Xiaomi, this month. We will keep you posted on any updates.

Vivo has officially announced that the X200 series will be launched at 7pm on Oct. 14 in China. This new series not only brings significant upgrades but also debuts the MediaTek Dimensity 9400, the first 3nm chip in the Android ecosystem, built on TSMC’s 3nm process. MediaTek has also confirmed that it will announce its next-generation chip on Oct. 9 in China. Although the Taiwanese tech giant has not made a specific announcement, it seems that they will unveil the all-new Dimensity 9400 tomorrow.

Vivo X200 series to feature MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chip

According to reports, the Dimensity 9400 features the new Arm Cortex-X925 prime CPU core, delivering a 36% improvement in performance and a 41% boost in AI capabilities compared to its predecessor, the Cortex-X4. Additionally, the chip includes the Mali-G925-Immortalis MC12 GPU, touted as Arm’s most powerful and efficient GPU to date. In tests, the GPU achieved 134fps in the GFXBench Aztec 1440P off-screen Vulkan scene, outperforming the A18 Pro by 86% and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by 41%.

Vivo has confirmed that the X200 series will include three models: Vivo X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro Mini. These will be the first phones to feature the Dimensity 9400 SoC. Regarding the chip’s performance, the X200 Pro Satellite Edition, equipped with this chip, has achieved an impressive AnTuTu score exceeding 3 million, making it the first Android flagship to do so.

Vivo X200 series to arrive with top-notch cameras

The Vivo X200 series is expected to provide an exceptional photography experience. A highlight of the X200 Pro is that it will flaunt a 200-megapixel f/2.67 85mm periscope telephoto lens with a V3+ imaging chip, covering focal lengths from 15mm to 85mm. It is the same periscope telephoto lens that’s available on the Vivo X100 Ultra.

The X200 Pro and X200 Pro Mini are both expected to come equipped with the Sony LYT818 f/1.57 23mm main sensor. For optically zoomed shots, the X200 Pro Mini is expected to feature a 70mm mid-telephoto periscope lens.

According to reports, the X200 will come with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 primary camera and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 (or LYT-600) telephoto camera. All three phones are expected to feature a 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 lens for ultra-wide shots.

Oppo K12 Plus confirmed to launch on October 12; packs a massive battery

Oppo is set to launch the Find X8 series devices this month. However, that’s not the only new product lineup the company will launch this month. The mid-range Oppo K12 Plus will be launched on October 12, positioned as a device that focuses on battery life and performance.

The Oppo K12 was launched in April this year with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip. The upcoming phone has already appeared on Geekbench with a single and multi-core score of 744 and 2573 respectively.

Oppo K12 Plus specifications:

The phone packs a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display on the front and a 6400 mAh battery inside, which supports 80W fast charging. However, despite packing a massive battery, the phone maintains a sleek form factor, measuring 162.47×75.33×8.37mm and weighing only 193 grams.

While the company hasn’t revealed much about the phone yet, it was previously rumored to equip the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, the same chip that is used by the standard model. However, the moniker suggests that there could be a performance improvement, which can be achieved with better thermal management and a different software tuning. Nonetheless, nothing is concrete about it, and readers should take it with a pinch of salt.

The overall design language of the Plus model is also expected to resemble the one the company released in April this year. To give you a clearer picture of what to expect, here’s a rundown of the Oppo K12‘s specifications.

The K12’s display reaches a peak brightness of 1100 nits and has an FHD+ resolution, which translates into a pixel density of 394ppi. This phone packs UFS 3.1 fast storage chips and comes in a total of three storage and memory configurations: 256GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 12GB RAM, and 512GB 12GB RAM.

Speaking of cameras, the K12 packs a 50MP + 8MP dual camera setup on the back, paired with a 16MP selfie shooter.

When it comes to powering up the device, it supports 100W wired fast charging, so users can expect a similar (if not faster) charging speed with the Plus model.

Explained: Oppo Find X8, Vivo X200 series to feature unique off-network communication

The upcoming Oppo Find X8 series and Vivo X200 series of flagship phones, slated for launch later this month, will arrive with many exciting features. Among them is support for innovative off-network communication capabilities. However, the principles and technologies behind these features differ significantly between the two brands.

Find X8 series’ off-network communication

Oppo Find X8 off-network
Oppo Find X8 off-network communication

Oppo’s off-network communication feature, dubbed BeaconLink globally, was first introduced with the Oppo Reno 12 series of smartphones. It is built on Bluetooth 5.4 technology, which includes new characteristics such as bidirectional communication without a direct connection, enabling devices to communicate within a certain range without the need for an internet connection.

This feature is designed for short-distance communication, with an effective range of a few hundred meters. This makes it suitable for scenarios where users need to stay connected without relying on traditional network infrastructure.

Vivo X200 series’ off-network communication

Vivo X200
Vivo X200

Vivo’s Vice President and General Manager of Brand and Product Strategy, Jia Jingdong has confirmed that the X200 series will be equipped with an off-network communication feature utilizing LoRa (Long Range) technology, distinct from WiFi and Bluetooth. LoRa operates similarly to a walkie-talkie, using specific frequency bands that allow for longer communication ranges, spanning several kilometres.

This makes it particularly useful in environments where traditional network connectivity is unavailable or unreliable. LoRa’s extended range offers a significant advantage for users needing robust communication capabilities over greater distances.

Launch Dates and Global Availability

The Oppo Find X8 and Find X8 Pro are slated for launch on Oct. 21 in China. These devices have already received multiple certifications globally, indicating that they will be available in various markets outside of China by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the Vivo X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro Mini are expected to debut on Oct. 14 in China. The X200 series is likely to be released globally in the first quarter of 2025.

Honor X60 design, display, camera, processor, and battery details revealed in new leak

Honor introduced the X50 smartphone in July last year. More than a year later, the company seems finally ready to launch its successor, the Honor X60. A recent leak has now revealed the front design and key specifications of the upcoming phone.

The leak, shared by a Weibo user, includes an image of the Honor X60’s About phone page. Here, we can see the phone with a flat screen, unlike the curved display of its predecessor. The punch-hole cutout on the front also seems a bit bigger this time around.

Honor X60 Specifications

As for the specifications, the Honor X60 features a 6.8-inch FHD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 chipset, while its predecessor used the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC.

Both chipsets use a combination of Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 CPU cores. The Dimensity 7025 features 2×2.5 GHz Cortex-A78 and 6×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores, while the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 has 4×2.2 GHz Cortex-A78 and 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 cores.

On paper, the Snapdragon should perform slightly better and should also be more efficient due to its 4nm manufacturing process, compared to the 6nm process on the Dimensity 7025.

The device ships with 12GB of RAM (expandable virtually up to 12GB) and 256GB of internal storage. On the software side, it runs MagicOS 8, based on Android 14.

For the camera, the “About phone” page only lists a 108MP main rear lens with an f/1.75 aperture, but there’s no information about the additional lenses. On the front, it has an 8MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

All this is kept on by a hefty 5800mAh battery that will be refueled by a 35W charger. The battery and charging speed are the same as the Honor X50, so you can expect a 50% charge in just 30 minutes.

Despite the large battery, the phone is still quite compact and lightweight. It measures 8mm thick and weighs just 189 grams.

Xiaomi launches Mijia 6L Electric Hot Pot with 2000W power, smart cooking features & more

Xiaomi has unveiled the Mijia 6L Multi-Functional Electric Hot Pot, designed for versatile and efficient home cooking. It will be available for crowdfunding from October 9 to October 16, priced at 249 yuan ($35) for backers, with a retail price of 329 yuan ($47).

Deliveries are expected to begin on October 23, allowing early supporters to experience the new cooking solution before it hits the general market. Let’s check out its key specs.

Xiaomi Mijia 6L Electric Hot Pot

Xiaomi Mijia 6L Electric Hot Pot Specifications:

The Mijia 6L Multi-Functional Electric Hot Pot features a spacious 6-liter capacity, making it suitable for family meals or guests. Xiaomi has integrated advanced heating technology that ensures even cooking, with a temperature difference of less than 2°C across the cooking surface.

The appliance comes with a detachable body, which easily separates from the base. This makes it simple to clean up after meals, as the pot can be lifted off the heating base without any hassle. It is constructed with a food-grade non-stick inner pot and resists sticking even during tasks like frying or grilling, making it a versatile tool for a variety of cooking techniques.

The Mijia 6L Electric Hot Pot features a powerful 2000W wing-shaped heating element that can boil 2 liters of water in just 7 minutes. It offers six adjustable heat settings for various cooking needs: 400-600W for gentle soups, 800W for warming, 1200W for slow cooking, 1600W for even cooking, and 2000W for quick boiling, making it ideal for fast meal preparation.

To add even more convenience, Xiaomi has equipped the appliance with eight preset cooking programs. These include options for Mixed Boil, Fresh Meat, Seafood, Bone Meat, Vegetables & Mushrooms, Frozen Foods, Noodles, and a Custom setting.

Each program allows users to customize cooking times, and the appliance automatically stops heating once the set time is reached, reducing the risk of overcooking and helping to conserve energy. Furthermore, the hot pot’s intelligent memory function remembers the initial cooking times for each preset, making it easy to recreate meals with a single touch.

Xiaomi has also focused on safety and usability. It includes a 1.4-meter power cord, giving users flexibility when placing it in the kitchen. The tempered glass lid allows for easy monitoring while cooking, and heat-resistant handles ensure safe handling.

Additionally, the hot pot is equipped with non-slip foot pads, which provide stability on countertops, and a dry-burn protection feature that prevents overheating when the pot is empty.

Xiaomi recently launched two new Mijia home appliances as well featuring its HyperOS: the Mijia Pro Cross 508L Refrigerator and a new Mijia Air Conditioner. The Mijia Pro Cross 508L Refrigerator offers a slim design, while the Mijia Air Conditioner includes top airflow and self-cleaning functions, enhancing convenience and efficiency in the home.
