iPad Mini 7: Is Apple’s Smallest Tablet Getting a Big Upgrade?

The iPad Mini has long held a unique place in Apple‘s lineup, offering a compact yet powerful experience for users who prefer a small tablet. Since its major redesign in 2021, the iPad Mini has remained relatively unchanged, but with nearly three years gone by, anticipation is growing for the next iteration: the iPad Mini 7.

Based on recent leaks, analyst reports, and industry trends, it seems likely that Apple will introduce the 7th generation iPad Mini before the end of 2024. Here’s what we know so far about Apple’s next small but mighty tablet.

iPad mini

1. Design

If you were hoping for a radical redesign, you might be disappointed. Most industry insiders believe that the iPad Mini 7 will retain the same design as its predecessor, the iPad Mini 6. That means we can expect the same 8.3-inch display, thin bezels, and Touch ID on the power button, along with the continued use of a USB-C port instead of the older Lightning connector.

Apple gave the iPad Mini a major facelift in 2021, so it’s likely that the company will keep the current design for a few more years, especially given its widespread positive reception.

However, the iPad Mini 7 could introduce new color options. Recent Apple products, such as the iPhone 16 and iPad Air M2, have embraced bolder, darker color schemes, and it’s possible that Apple will extend this trend to the iPad Mini 7. This could result in new hues that give the tablet a fresh look without changing its physical dimensions.

2. Performance

The biggest expectation for the iPad Mini 7 is a significant upgrade in performance. The current iPad Mini 6 is powered by the A15 Bionic chip, the same processor found in the iPhone 13. While the A15 is still quite capable, it is starting to show its age, especially with the arrival of more advanced Apple Silicon in other iPads and iPhones.

Reports suggest that the iPad Mini 7 will likely receive the A17 Pro chip, the same processor used in the iPhone 15 Pro models. This would represent a major leap in performance, especially when combined with the rumored increase in RAM from 4GB to 8GB.

The upgraded chip will enable the iPad Mini 7 to handle more demanding tasks, from gaming to multitasking, and will likely support Apple’s new AI-powered “Apple Intelligence” features set to debut with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. The additional RAM will also improve overall performance and user experience, allowing for smoother multitasking and faster app loading times.

3. Display

The display of the iPad Mini 6 faced some criticism for what’s known as “jelly scrolling,” a phenomenon where the content on the screen appears to wobble when scrolling, particularly in portrait mode. It’s believed that the iPad Mini 7 will address this issue with a new display controller that improves scrolling smoothness and overall display responsiveness.

As for other display upgrades, rumors have circulated about a potential move to OLED, but this seems unlikely for 2024. Most sources suggest that Apple won’t adopt OLED technology for its iPad Mini lineup until 2026. For now, the iPad Mini 7 is expected to stick with its current 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display.

Additionally, while some earlier reports hinted at a ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling, newer information casts doubt on this, with analysts predicting that ProMotion will remain exclusive to Apple’s higher-end iPads and MacBooks for the time being.

4. Storage and Connectivity

The iPad Mini 6 starts with a relatively limited 64GB of storage, which feels inadequate for many users in 2024. Many analysts expect Apple to increase the base storage to 128GB while offering a 512GB option for users who need more room for apps, media, and documents.

Connectivity is also set to receive an upgrade, with the iPad Mini 7 expected to support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, offering faster wireless speeds and more stable connections. For cellular models, 5G connectivity will remain a standard feature.

5. Expected Release Date

Rumors and reports suggest that the iPad Mini 7 could launch as soon as October 2024. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is gearing up for another major product event this fall, where the iPad Mini 7 could be revealed alongside updated MacBook Pros and Mac Minis.

Additionally, stock shortages of the current iPad Mini 6 at Apple stores and retailers like Best Buy further hint at an upcoming release. If the past is any indication, Apple may follow its usual fall launch schedule, but some reports suggest the update could be pushed to early 2025. Either way, it’s clear that the iPad Mini 7 is on the horizon.

6. Conclusion

The iPad Mini 7 promises to be a worthy upgrade over the current model, especially for those who want a more powerful processor and better multitasking capabilities.

While it may not offer a revolutionary new design or OLED display, its performance improvements and potential fixes to display issues make it an attractive option for fans of Apple’s smallest tablet.

Whether you’re looking for a compact device for work, media consumption, or gaming, the iPad Mini 7 is shaping up to be a strong contender when it launches later this year or in early 2025.

Huawei Nova 13 series launch date leaks: Here’s everything we know so far

Huawei has a busy release schedule ahead, with three phone lineups expected to launch before the end of 2024. The Nova 13 series, Mate 70 series, and the foldable Mate X6 are all on the docket, but it’s the Nova 13 that seems closest to hitting store shelves.

A leak from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station initially pointed to an October launch for the Nova 13 series. And now a new leak from Weibo tipster Fixed Focus Digital suggests a more specific date, October 22nd. Another Weibo tipster, UncleKanshan, also tipped the same release date, adding weight to the rumored launch.

The Nova 12 series launched on December 26 and went international in March, so if these rumors hold, the Nova 13 series will debut two months earlier than its predecessor.

Huawei Nova 13 Series Specification (Expected)

The Nova 13 series is likely to have four models, Nova 13 Lite, 13s, 13 Pro, and 13 Ultra. All the devices are expected to be powered by the same flagship Kirin 9010 SoC that drives the recently launched Huawei Pura 70 series. The Pro and Ultra models may also get satellite connectivity support.

The series could also adopt the XMAGE camera branding seen on Huawei’s Pura and Mate flagship devices. The series is also tipped to offer improved selfie photography with dual front-facing cameras.

Huawei Nova 12 Ultra

Moving on to the display, leaks suggest a flat screen for the standard Nova 13, while the remaining models might sport a slightly curved design. All devices are rumored to offer a 1.5K resolution display, a comfortable middle ground between Full HD and Quad HD.

The Nova 13 series will likely come with the HarmonyOS Next operating system. The rear camera setup may feature variable aperture technology for the main camera, while the higher-end models could include a periscope telephoto lens. Although unconfirmed, these details point to a feature-packed mid-range offering.

Can Samsung’s 2nm push outpace TSMC and revive its semiconductor business?

Samsung Semiconductor, the world’s second-largest chipmaker, is facing a pivotal moment as it races to mass-produce cutting-edge 2nm chips. The company’s success in this endeavor could determine its ability to compete against industry leader TSMC and regain market share.

Samsung Exynos Chipset

Samsung Semiconductor’s Future Hangs in the Balance

Despite significant investments, Samsung has struggled to match TSMC’s profitability and scale. The Taiwanese chip giant currently holds a commanding 62.3% market share in the semiconductor foundry sector, compared to Samsung’s 11%. This disparity has resulted in substantial financial losses for Samsung, underscoring the urgent need for a technological breakthrough.

Samsung‘s strategy is centered around its 2nm and below process technologies. The company is investing heavily in its fabrication facilities, with plans to install new production lines at its Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek plants. The goal is to achieve mass production of 2nm chips by 2025 and 1.4nm by 2027, mirroring TSMC’s timeline.

One of the major factors in Samsung’s success will be securing major customers for its 2nm process. The company is actively negotiating with Qualcomm, hoping that the US chipmaker will choose Samsung’s technology for its next-generation Snapdragon processors. If Samsung can secure such partnerships, it could significantly boost its foundry business and attract other customers.

However, the road ahead is fraught with challenges. Samsung has faced setbacks in the past, such as the delayed release of its 3nm Exynos processor. Additionally, reports suggest that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 globally, suggesting that Samsung may not be fully confident in its own Exynos chips compared to the Snapdragon alternative. Meanwhile, the Exynos 2500 is expected to power the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, which are slated for release later in 2024.

The success of Samsung’s 2nm process will have far-reaching implications for the global semiconductor industry. If Samsung can close the gap with TSMC, it could lead to increased competition and potentially lower prices for consumers. Moreover, it could strengthen South Korea’s position as a major player in the high-tech sector.

Vivo X200 Pro mini first live images reveal a chunky camera bump

We’re just a few days away from the launch of the Vivo X200 series, and, as usual, leaks are increasing ahead of the release. Following the recent leak that tipped the price range of the X200 phones, we now have the first live images of the most compact model in the lineup — the Vivo X200 Pro Mini.

Vivo X200 Pro mini real-life images

The X200 Pro mini is an interesting new add-on from Vivo in its flagship line, especially considering that compact phones tend to struggle in the market. For instance, Apple discontinued its mini iPhone series in favor of a Plus model due to low sales.

That said, there is still an audience that appreciates compact devices, and the X200 Pro Mini is likely to appeal to them.

In the live image below, we can see that the device has a compact form factor and features a round camera module on the back.

While the design isn’t surprising, as it has already been revealed in previous leaks, it could be our first look at the phone’s chunky camera bump.

That bump houses three rear cameras, including a telephoto module, along with the expected Zeiss tuning. Additionally, the white lines on the frame confirm that it is made of metal. The last image also reveals a speaker and a USB-C port on the bottom.

Specifications

As for the specs, a previous report suggests that the Vivo X200 Pro mini will be a smaller version of its larger X200 Pro sibling. That’s quite evident in the name itself, to be honest.

So the Pro Mini will feature a 6.3-inch OLED display with flagship-level features, including a 120Hz LTPO refresh rate and 1.5K resolution. It is expected to be powered by the Dimensity 9400 chipset, similar to the X200 and X200 Pro.

The Pro Mini is also likely to inherit the Pro’s camera setup, which is rumored to include a 50MP Sony LYT-818 main sensor (1/1.28″ size), a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera.

The Vivo X200 series is likely to ship with OriginOS 5 based on Android 15 and is expected to offer deeper AI integration.

Motorola’s long-overdue software update problem is finally getting a fix

Motorola software update

Samsung and Google have completely changed the software update game by offering seven Android updates, and being quicker in releasing new updates makes them a no-brainer pick for many people prioritizing longer software support. This would definitely hurt sales of other Android brands, and as a result, we’ve been seeing many changes in software update policies lately.

Motorola, which has been long offering only three Android upgrades, is now stepping up the game by offering up to five years of Android updates. The Motorola Edge 50 Neo, released in August, was the first phone from the brand to get this treat.

After the Motorola Edge 50 Neo, the brand has announced Moto G75 and ThinkPhone 25 in the international market. Both come with a promise of five generations of Android upgrades. So, Motorola is finally taking a big step in the right direction.

While there is still a significant gap between the number of Android updates offered by Motorola and Google/Samsung, Motorola’s latest move represents a significant improvement from its previous offering. For instance, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, one of the company’s most expensive smartphones, only promises three Android updates, whereas the mid-range Moto G75 is guaranteed five.

Motorola’s software update policies have been a weak area of the brand, particularly for high-end phones that were only promised three Android upgrades. The brand’s sluggish software update rollout in recent years has only added to the disappointment. However, it seems the brand has now learned from its mistakes, as it’s now offering extended software support on newer devices. But I’d feel more comfortable getting a Motorola phone if they also improve the software rollout.

Motorola fans would appreciate the brand for offering longer software support. However, it’s not a treat for older Motorola phones. They are not getting additional Android upgrades.

Oppo Find X8 Specifications

Now that we’ve covered the design, let’s talk about the specs. While we already have a good idea of what to expect, a user on Weibo has listed the complete specifications of the phone.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset and is equipped with a 5,700mAh battery. You will get support for 80W charging and 50W magnetic wireless charging for refueling.

Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy S24 FE. This was the brand’s latest entry in the FE series of budget flagship phones. While the smartphone is still shipping to its customers across the globe, the company has started rolling out the first ever software update.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE First Update: What’s New?

The South Korean tech giant is rolling out the update, which carries the firmware version S721BXXS2AXI5. Based on the official description, this is a minor software update that is currently arriving in the European and African regions. In other words, the update isn’t bringing any major new features or changes, rather, we are getting fixed for 67 security vulnerabilities. So if you have received this update, it is recommended that you update your device to the latest version immediately.

The changelog also adds that the new update brings improvements in device stability along with bug fixes and performance upgrades. To check if you’ve received the update, head to Settings then go to Software Update and hit Download and Install. Keep in mind that this update isn’t rolling out globally, but a wider roll out should follow soon. Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 FE with the Android 14 OS based OneUI 6.1 custom skin out of the box. It is also the brand’s first Fan Edition phone that will get up to seven major Android OS updates.

To recall, the Galaxy S24 FE was released with a tall 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. Under the hood, it is equipped with the Exynos 2400e SoC, which is paired up to 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. The rear packs a 50MP (Main) + 8MP (Telephoto) + 12MP (Ultrawide) camera setup, while the front houses a 10MP shooter for selfies and video calls. A 4,700mAh battery pack powers this model, which supports 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging support.

Oppo Find X8 Pro’s front design is now official

Oppo‘s Zhou Yibao has revealed several aspects of the company’s upcoming flagship lineup, the Find X8 series. In a recent Weibo post, the company executive unveiled the front design of the Find X8 Pro.

Find X8 Pro will come in two different versions:

He also confirmed that the Find X8 Pro will launch in two different models: one that supports satellite connectivity, and one that doesn’t. Unlike last year, the satellite communication edition will launch alongside the standard version.

As stated, the photo was taken by the company exec’s friend who participated in the Gobi Challenge. He also tested the satellite connectivity and it reportedly functioned properly. For those unfamiliar, satellite connectivity allows users to make calls and send messages even in remote areas where there is no traditional cellular network coverage, essentially providing communication access almost anywhere on Earth. So the phone seen in the image seems to be the satellite communication edition.

Oppo Find X8 Pro specs (rumored):

While the image doesn’t reveal much about the front design of the device, previous rumors claim that the phone will come with a 6.82-inch 1.5K micro-curved display. In contrast, last year’s lineup only has two models – the Find X7 and Find X7 Ultra. While the Find X7 packs a 6.78-inch display, the Find X7 Ultra offers a slightly larger 6.82 inch panel.

In terms of performance, both the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro packs the Dimensity 9400 chipset, which apparently boasts a solid CPU and GPU upgrade. The satellite communication edition of the Find X8 Pro has already surfaced on Geekbench with a single and multi-core score of over 3000 and 8500 respectively.

There will also be larger batteries on both the standard and Pro models: 5600 mAh for Find X8 and 5700 mAh for Find X8 Pro. This is also a significant upgrade over the predecessors, both of which use 5000mAh batteries. Interestingly, the company executive also previously revealed that the phones are going to be lighter than expected. While he didn’t reveal the weight of the Pro model, the base model weighs less than 200 grams, lighter than its predecessor.

According to a previous rumor, the phone will be available in multiple markets, including India.

RAWM SA-SH01 Pro Gaming Mouse Review: Lightweight, Powerful, and Built for Pros

I recently tested the RAWM SA-SH01 Pro, a lightweight 55-gram gaming mouse packed with high-end features like an 8K polling rate, hot-swappable switches, and the powerful PAW3950 sensor.

RAWM SA-SH01 Pro Gaming Mouse Review

After using it for intense gaming sessions and daily tasks, I’ve gained a solid understanding of its performance. Here’s a detailed overview of my experience with this gaming mouse.

1. What’s in the Box?

RAWM-SA-SH01-Pro-Gaming-Mouse-Review

Unboxing the SA-SH01 Pro was a pleasant experience, as it comes with all the essentials needed for setup and customization. Inside the box, you’ll find:

  • RAWM SA-SH01 Pro Gaming Mouse
  • USB-C Paracord Cable
  • 8K Dongle
  • 1K Dongle
  • Extra Grips
  • User Manual

2. Design and Build Quality

RAWM-SA-SH01-Pro-Gaming-Mouse-Review

At first glance, the RAWM SA-SH01 Pro bears a close resemblance to the Razer Viper Mini, with its compact yet ergonomic shape. The dimensions of 117.7mm x 61.2mm x 38.1mm make it ideal for users with smaller to medium-sized hands, offering a comfortable grip for claw or fingertip styles. Weighing just 55 grams, the lightweight build is impressive, allowing for quick, precise movements without causing fatigue.

In addition to the main buttons, the mouse features a DPI button and two side buttons. At the back, there’s a switch to toggle between Bluetooth and 2.4GHz mode, as well as a DPI mode button and an on/off switch. There’s a compartment on the bottom rear side of the mouse that conveniently houses the USB dongle. The mouse boasts excellent build quality, with no cracking or squeaking sounds at all, ensuring a solid feel during use.

RAWM SA-SH01 Pro Gaming Mouse Review

The mouse is coated with a skin-like texture that offers excellent grip, even in humid conditions. However, I’ve noticed that the white version is prone to showing smudges and oil marks, particularly around the thumb area. While this is a minor cosmetic issue, frequent cleaning may be necessary to keep it looking pristine.

3. Hot-Swappable Feature

The SA-SH01 Pro comes with hot-swappable M1 and M2 switches. The mouse features pre-equipped Huano Transparent Green White dot switches, which offer a crisp and tactile click. However, swapping the switches is very easy, taking just a few seconds to remove and replace thanks to the metal-lined screw holes designed for repeated customizations.

I haven’t tried the hot-swappable feature myself yet, as it requires removing the padding and unscrewing the internals, which I haven’t gotten around to doing. However the overall design makes this process straightforward, and the customization options are a huge plus for those who like experimenting with different switch types.

4. Features and Performance

RAWM-SA-SH01-Pro-Gaming-Mouse-Review

The SA-SH01 Pro is powered by the cutting-edge 3950 sensor, which is considered one of the best in the gaming community. This sensor allows for a maximum sensitivity of 30,000 DPI with a tracking speed of 750IPS and 50G acceleration, ensuring accurate movement during high-speed gaming sessions.

The mouse’s polling rate goes up to 8000Hz, with an ultra-fast response time of 0.125ms, making it incredibly responsive. The DPI increments can be adjusted in steps of 50, giving you full control over precision based on your specific needs.

RAWM SA-SH01 Pro Gaming Mouse Review

The lightweight build at 55 grams helps for a swift and smooth glide. The side buttons, positioned for easy access, are very satisfying. The scroll wheel, while standard, delivers distinct steps and consistent feedback.

In terms of everyday use, the mouse excels in various conditions. I put it through 7-8 hours of work and gaming daily, and it handled everything from fast-paced gaming to precise work tasks with ease. I didn’t notice any input lag, even when switching between the Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless modes. The three-mode connectivity (Bluetooth, 2.4GHz, and wired) makes it very versatile.

However, I faced one minor issue: I occasionally misclicked during work-related tasks like taking long screenshots, ruining the screenshot, and forcing me to retake it. This might be due to the trigger sensitivity, which is more of a personal issue related to my workflow rather than a flaw in the mouse design.

5. Software and Battery Life

RAWM-SA-SH01-Pro-Gaming-Mouse-Review

The mouse provides both a web driver and a downloadable driver, featuring a user-friendly interface that allows customization for settings like DPI, polling rate, and key mappings. It also includes performance settings such as angle snapping, ripple control, and motion sync. The initial settings screen displays the battery percentage, which is helpful, but I think it would be even better if the battery percentage were also visible on the main settings page. Placing it at the top would make it easier to monitor at a glance.

As for battery life, I’ve mostly used the mouse in wired mode, so I don’t have a precise measure of its longevity. However, with the company claiming up to 85 hours at a 1,000 Hz polling rate, it should hold up well. Fast charging is another plus, as it fully recharges the 300mAh battery in just 1.5 hours, ensuring you’re rarely without the mouse for long.

6. Verdict

The RAWM SA-SH01 Pro is an exceptional gaming mouse that strikes a fine balance between performance, customization, and affordability. At approximately $70, it offers impressive features like an 8K polling rate, swappable switches, and a top-tier PAW3950 sensor. Its lightweight build and ergonomic design make it suitable for both casual and professional gamers, as well as productivity-focused users.

While the white version may attract smudges and stains more easily, and the occasional misclicks during specific tasks can be slightly annoying, these are minor inconveniences compared to the overall value this mouse provides.

7. Pricing and Availability

The mouse is priced at $69.99 (comes with an 8k dongle bundled) and it is available on Mechkeys and Aliexpress.

This could be our first look at the Xiaomi 15 Pro

The Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro are expected to launch this month as some of the first flagships powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. A recent leak (via Smartprix) reveals the refined back design of the Xiaomi 15 Pro.

The Pro model retains the square camera island design of its predecessor. However, the placement of the flash module outside the camera island suggests there could be an additional camera inside the camera island. The back plate also appears to have flatter edges compared to the Xiaomi 14 Pro

The renders also suggest that the Xiaomi 15 Pro will come in three different colors: Black, White, and Silver. According to a report, Xiaomi will also offer a special Titanium edition.

Apart from that, the Xiaomi logo has a similar placement and size, and the middle frame also retains the same flat design as its predecessor. The LEICA branding is also positioned in the middle of the four circular camera cutouts, the same as last year.

What to expect?

Speaking of cameras, the Xiaomi 15 Pro is expected to offer a 5x periscope telephoto (120mm), a significant upgrade over its predecessor. In this context, the relocation of the flash module suggests the phone could feature two telephoto cameras: a 3x telephoto and a 5x periscope telephoto.

Even if the phone looks somewhat similar to its predecessor, Xiaomi has reportedly adjusted the design and placement of the internals in order to accommodate a much larger battery. Well-known tipster Digital Chat Station previously claimed that the phone packs a 6000mAh silicon anode battery, a significant upgrade over the 4880 mAh capacity of the Xiaomi 14 Pro.

For those unfamiliar, silicon anode batteries offer significantly higher energy density than traditional graphite-anode batteries, making it easier to fit more capacity within a compact volume.

The entire Xiaomi 15 series is also rumored to offer a higher peak brightness with better color reproduction thanks to a new display material.

Comparison of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with last year’s chipset also suggests a significant improvement in performance for the Xiaomi 15 series.
