Design and Build Quality

The Edge 50 Pro, Edge 50 Neo, and Edge 50 Fusion have premium designs, but only the Pro model has an aluminium frame. All three have a vegan leather finish for a premium feel.

The three Edge 50 series phones have an IP68 rating for better protection against dust and water. In terms of durability, the Edge 50 Neo might have an edge over the other two because it meets military standards for durability.

The Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Fusions look similar; the Edge 50 Fusion differs because of a smaller camera module on the rear side, which only has two sensors. In contrast, the other two Edge 50 phones have three sensors on the back.

The Edge 50 Neo is slightly more compact and lightweight than the other two. However, the Edge 50 Fusion is the thinnest here.

Design is totally subjective. So, I’ll leave that to you. However, regarding durability, the Edge 50 Neo stands out because of military-grade durability. Among the other two, Edge 50 Pro wins because of its aluminium frame.

Display

Motorola Edge 50 Pro, Edge 50 Neo, Edge 50 Fusion display

All three Edge 50 models have the same pOLED screen but have different screen sizes and resolutions. The Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Fusion have a 6.7-inch screen, whereas the Edge 50 Neo has a smaller 6.4-inch screen. However, the Edge 50 Neo has more pixels per inch, resulting in better details and clarity.

Among the three, the Edge 50 Neo has the highest peak brightness of 2800 nits for better visibility outdoors (vs. 2000 nits on the Edge 50 Pro and 1600 nits on the Edge 50 Fusion). Notably, the Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Fusion support a 144Hz refresh rate, which is limited to 120Hz on the Edge 50 Neo. However, the Edge 50 Neo has the advantage of LTPO technology that allows a dynamic refresh rate for better smoothness and power saving.

The Edge 50 Fusion is protected using Gorilla Glass 5, while the Edge 50 Neo has Gorilla Glass 3. The Edge 50 Pro also features Gorilla Glass protection, but Motorola hasn’t specified the version.

Overall, the Motorola Edge 50 Neo has a better display than the other two, but if it’s too compact for you, the Edge 50 Pro might be a better choice.

Camera

Motorola Edge 50 Pro, Edge 50 Neo, Edge 50 Fusion - cameras

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Neo have the same rear camera setup — a 50MP primary sensor, a 10MP telephoto sensor, and a 13MP ultrawide sensor. However, the Edge 50 Pro has a slight edge because of advanced autofocus technology. The Edge 50 Fusion, on the other hand, lacks a telephoto shooter. All three can record up to 4K videos with their rear cameras.

The Edge 50 Pro has a 50MP sensor for selfies and video calling, while the other two have a 32MP sensor. All three can record 4K videos using their selfie cameras, too.

The bottom line is that the Edge 50 Pro has the best camera setup of the three. The Edge 50 Neo is second, and the Edge 50 Fusion is third in terms of camera performance.

Performance

Edge 50 Pro, Edge 50 Neo, Edge 50 Fusion - Performance

The Edge 50 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, the Edge 50 Neo has Dimensity 7300, and the Edge 50 Fusion has Snapdragon 7s Gen 2.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 inside the Edge 50 Pro outperforms the other two. It has better performance and efficiency, although the difference between the other two isn’t significant.

So, the Edge 50 Pro can handle games better than the Edge 50 Neo and Edge 50 Fusion. However, the other two phones have similar performance.

The Edge 50 Pro is a better choice if you’re really into gaming. However, the other two devices would also work fine for regular day-to-day tasks and light gaming.

Battery & Charging

The Edge 50 Fusion has the highest battery capacity of all three — 5,000mAh (vs. 4,500mAh on the Edge 50 Pro and 4,310mAh on the Edge 50 Neo). But when it comes to charging, the Edge 50 Pro leaves the other two in the dust.

The Edge 50 Pro supports 125W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. The Edge 50 Neo and Edge 50 Fusion supports 68W wired charging, but the former also supports 15W wireless charging, lacking on the Edge 50 Fusion.

Although the Edge 50 Pro doesn’t have the biggest battery of all three, the charging capabilities make up for it. The device only takes 18 minutes to reach 100% battery capacity, while the other two reach 50% in 15 minutes.

Software

All three Edge 50 models come with Android 14 out of the box. However, the Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Fusion will only get three Android upgrades, whereas the Edge 50 Neo will get two additional Android updates. This means the Edge 50 Neo will stay relevant for two more years after the other two become outdated.

Connectivity

Connectivity is another crucial factor that can affect your purchase decision. The Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Neo support Wi-Fi 6E, whereas the Edge 50 Fusions support Wi-Fi 5. The newer Wi-Fi standard reduces congestion and offers higher peak download/upload speed.

The Edge 50 Pro has Bluetooth 5.4, Edge 50 Neo has Bluetooth 5.3, and Edge 50 Fusion has Bluetooth 5.2. Only the Edge 50 Pro supports NavIC.

The Edge 50 Neo and Edge 50 Fusion support USB Type-C 2.0, while the Edge 50 Pro has USB Type-C 3.1, offering faster data transfer over a USB connection.

So, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro has the best connectivity features. Then comes the Edge 50 Neo and then the Edge 50 Fusion.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs Edge 50 Neo vs Edge 50 Fusion: Which Is the Best?

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro, Edge 50 Neo, and Edge 50 Fusion are solid budget phones, but choosing one really comes down to your priorities.

The Edge 50 Pro sounds better than the other two in most aspects. It has the fastest chip and charging speed and features better connectivity and camera features. If you’re only looking for a camera phone and don’t care about gaming, the Edge 50 Neo will save you some money.

Both the OPPO Find X8 and Xiaomi 15 series to boast magnetic wireless charging tech

While Android smartphones have supported wireless charging for quite some time, there is still significant room for improvement. Unlike iPhones, Android flagships lack magnets to properly align the charging coils, which would help enable a more efficient charging. But this could change soon with the launch of the Oppo Find X8 series and the Xiaomi 15 series.

The news comes from Weibo (Chinese microblogging site) tipster Digital Char Station, who claimed that Oppo has developed a magnetic power bank. He added that the entire Oppo Find X8 series includes magnets and can be attached to the power bank to offer Apple’s MagSafe-like charging experience. He also shared an image of Oppo‘s magnetic power bank, which you can see above.

Reportedly, Xiaomi has also prepared a 30W “ultra-thin” magnetic wireless charger this time. Notably, Xiaomi‘s 30W ultra-thin magnetic wireless charger has passed China’s CQC certification. The wireless charger has a model MDY-17-EY, which supports 65W input and a maximum of 30W wireless output. Currently, Xiaomi officially sells three models of magnetic power banks with three design styles: built-in stand hanging hole model, ordinary magnetic model, and vertical separation design model, priced at 249 yuan, 129 yuan, and 199 yuan respectively.

We have already seen Pixel devices facing compatibility issues with Google’s own Pixel Stand wireless chargers. This is inevitable when devices equip the charging coils in different positions. However, it can be fixed with the addition of magnets as it can hold the coils in place and also hold the weight of the phone. Speaking of the magnetic power bank, it should also make charging on the go much more convenient.

That being said, it’s currently unclear whether or not the phones will finally adopt the Qi2 wireless charging standard.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra specifications (rumored)

According to a recent leak, the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra will have a large 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 2960 x 1848 resolution, anti-reflection coating, and a peak brightness of 930 nits. In comparison, the Galaxy Tab S10+ will have a smaller 12.4-inch panel with a 2800 x 152 resolution and a peak brightness of 650 nits.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ SoC will power the Tab S10+ and S10 Ultra. The Plus model will have 12 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and a 10,090mAh battery with 46W fast charging. On the other hand, the Ultra edition will have 12 GB of RAM, up to 512 GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and an 11,200mAh battery with 45W charging.

The Galaxy Tab S10 series will feature a quad speaker setup for enhanced audio and are expected to launch with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, along with an armor aluminium frame. Both tablets are ultra-slim, measuring 5.4mm and 5.6mm in thickness, respectively. The devices are expected to run on One UI 6.1.1-based Android 14. The Tab S10 series may break cover on Sept. 26 in different markets.

iPhone 17 Pro could indeed use a 2nm chipset; should you wait?

Apple has launched the iPhone 16 series devices that are powered by 3 nm-based A18 and A18 Pro chips. While Weibo tipster “Mobile chip expert” (translated from Chinese) previously suggested that the iPhone 17 lineup won’t use 2nm chips a new report from Business Times claims that TSMC’s 2-nanometer process will be mass-produced in 2025 and that Apple will be one of the first to adopt the new process node.

iPhone 15 Pro Max iOS 17.0.3 performance and thermals

It is expected that the next generation A-series chip that will power the iPhone 17 lineup will be based on TSMC’s 2nm process node.

However, it’s unclear whether both the chips for Pro and non-Pro iPhones will be based on the 2-nm node. There’s a possibility that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models will be the first to be based on TSMC’s 2nm process node, while the non-Pro models will be based on a 3nm process. This shouldn’t be surprising as Apple has already used a generation-old chip on the next generation’s non-Pro models.

Compared to N3E (3nm), TSMC expects 2nm to improve performance by 10% to 15% at the same power, or reduce power consumption by 25% to 30% at the same frequency and complexity. So it could offer notable performance and power efficiency improvements to iPhone 17 Pro models. TSMC’s 2nm process reportedly adopts the leading nanosheet transistor structure, which will provide full-node performance and power advantages to meet the growing demand for energy-saving computing.

According to a previous leak, the iPhone 17 series will include a “Slim” model, that is expected to fill the performance gap between the Pro and non-Pro models.

Nonetheless, the adoption of a 2nm chip in the iPhone 17 lineup remains speculative. So, should you upgrade to the iPhone 16? There are several other important factors to consider before making that decision.

Xiaomi 15 series price tipped, likely to start at 4,599 Yuan (~$650)

As per reports, Xiaomi may unveil the Xiaomi 15 series of flagship phones driven by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip in the fourth week of October. Last year, the Xiaomi 14 series was introduced with a starting price of 3,999 Yuan (~$565). There have been speculations that the 15 series would be at least 500 Yuan more expensive than its predecessor. A new leak, courtesy of a report by the publication CNMO, has tipped the starting price of the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro.

Xiaomi 15 series pricing: What to expect?

Xiaomi 14 series runs 32-bit apps with Tango(1)
Xiaomi 14 series

According to the publication, a tech blogger has claimed that the Xiaomi 15 will be priced at 4,599 Yuan (~$650), whereas the 15 Pro will have a starting price of 5,499 Yuan (~$775). The tech blogger reportedly claimed that the price hike is due to the rising costs of chipsets and storage. Therefore, smartphone manufacturers are compelled to adjust their pricing strategies. Additionally, Xiaomi founder and chairman Lei Jun’s hints at the Xiaomi 14 launch event further confirmed that the Xiaomi 15 series will move away from the era of starting prices at 3,999 yuan.

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also revealed earlier that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will use TSMC’s latest N3E process, which has significantly increased manufacturing costs. Its price is about 25 percent to 30 percent higher than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, reaching between $190 and $200. This high chip cost will undoubtedly have an impact on the final price of the Xiaomi 15 series.

Based on existing leaks, the Xiaomi 15 series will undergo a comprehensive upgrade, featuring large primary sensors, telephoto macro, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanners, glass bodies, silicon anode batteries, wireless rapid charging, and an IP68-rated dust and water resistance. The standard version of the Xiaomi 15 will adopt a 1.5K resolution flat screen, emphasizing compact and portable design, while the Xiaomi 15 Pro will continue to use a 2K resolution new base material fully equal-depth micro-curved screen with a narrower bezel design.

In terms of imaging systems, the standard version of the Xiaomi 15 will be equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens; the imaging system of the Xiaomi 15 Pro will be more impressive, featuring a 50-megapixel main camera backed by a larger lens, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens.

As per a post shared on X by Sanju, the OnePlus 13 will come with a green vegan leather back option. The leak also includes a rough render showcasing the potential placement of elements on the phone. It is worth mentioning that this render does not represent the actual OnePlus 13 device as the design of the device is still under wraps.

OnePlus 13 specs (expected)

The OnePlus 13 is expected to have a 6.82-inch 2K OLED LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a curved design. Under the hood, it will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, which was also recently spotted on Geekbench. The camera setup is expected to include a triple camera system with a 50 MP LYT 808 1/1.4″ main sensor, a 50 MP LYT 600 1/1.95″ periscope lens with 3x zoom, and a 50 MP ultrawide lens.

Other rumored features include a large battery with support for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, IP68/IP69 rating, NFC, IR Blaster, and dual stereo speakers. These specifications align with previous leaks and benchmarks, suggesting that the OnePlus 13 will be a powerful and feature-packed smartphone.

In other news, OnePlus has launched its new budget TWS earbuds, the Nord Buds 3, in India, featuring upgraded ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), improved battery life, and an affordable price. The earbuds come with 12.4mm dynamic drivers, Bluetooth 5.4, and dual microphones for clear calls. Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 6: Budget-Friendly Power vs. Premium Features

Tecno has recently introduced the Phantom V Flip 2 5G smartphone to the global market. As the successor to the Phantom V Flip, the Flip2 5G is designed to provide a more budget-friendly yet feature-packed alternative to other flip phones, such as the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Here’s a closer comparison of the two devices.

Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 6

1. Design & display

In terms of design and build, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 stands out with its more compact dimensions. It is slightly smaller and lighter, weighing 187g compared to the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2’s 196g. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a premium feel with a combination of a glass back protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and an aluminum frame, while the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 offers a unique eco-leather back with a durable aluminum frame and steel hinge, providing a distinct aesthetic.

The display comparison shows both devices equipped with foldable AMOLED screens, supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a slightly smaller 6.7-inch display with a higher peak brightness of 2600 nits and features HDR10+ support. The Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 offers a larger 6.9-inch display but has a slightly lower pixel density (413 ppi versus Samsung’s 426 ppi), although it compensates with a bigger cover display at 3.64 inches, compared to Samsung’s 3.4 inches.

2. Performance

In terms of performance, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, making it a more powerful option for high-performance tasks, while the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 runs on the Mediatek Dimensity 8020. Samsung offers more RAM, with configurations of 12GB, whereas Tecno provides 8GB RAM, which might affect multitasking performance. Both devices offer ample internal storage, with Samsung leading with up to 512GB, while Tecno sticks with 256GB.

3. Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 both offer impressive camera systems, each with its own strengths. The Z Flip 6 excels in low-light photography and video thanks to its OIS-equipped 50 MP primary sensor and 12 MP ultrawide lens. It also supports 4K@60fps video recording with HDR10+ and slow-motion capabilities up to 960fps.

On the other hand, the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 boasts a dual 50 MP camera setup with a larger primary sensor for impressive low-light performance and a wider ultrawide lens. While it lacks HDR10+ support, it offers excellent video quality up to 4K@30fps.

For selfies, the Z Flip 6’s 10 MP camera provides good quality, but Tecno’s 32 MP selfie camera with PDAF and LED flash offers superior detail and low-light performance. Additionally, Tecno’s selfie camera supports higher frame rates up to 1080p@60fps for smoother video calls and vlogs.

4. Battery

Battery life and charging speed present a notable difference. The Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 boasts a larger 4720 mAh battery and faster 70W wired charging, allowing for a 50% charge in just 15 minutes. Samsung’s battery is smaller at 4000 mAh, with 25W wired charging that takes 30 minutes to reach 50%. However, Samsung includes wireless and reverse wireless charging options, which are absent on the Tecno.

5. Pricing & conclusion

The biggest disparity between the two devices is their price point. The c has a starting price of US$1,100, while the Phantom V Flip 2 has launched for US$700.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 delivers more power, versatility in performance, and better video capabilities, while the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 provides a larger battery, faster-wired charging, and an impressive camera setup. That said, it does not offer features like wireless charging, which isn’t necessarily a deal breaker, considering that it is $400 cheaper than the Z Flip 6.

Samsung’s recently released One UI 6.1.1 update reduces camera capabilities of Galaxy S23 series

Samsung started rolling out the new One UI 6.1.1 update on September 16, 2024 to the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5 / Z Flip 5 and many other devices. But the new update contains some problems. Users are already reporting on X (formerly Twitter) that the update reduces camera capability. We request Samsung to fix the camera issue in the Galaxy S23 series as soon as possible.

Galaxy S23 series faces a new camera problem

Samsung needs to test updates more carefully. The released One UI 6.1.1 update degrades the camera capability of the Galaxy S23 series and that’s not a good thing. This problem appeared in the update with build number CXH7. Specifically, Galaxy S23 Ultra users report that the camera app takes blurry photos when you zoom between 16x and 19.9x. Users want Samsung to fix the problem by releasing a new update as soon as possible.

Tarun Vats, who follows One UI builds, notes that the problem is solved when users set the optimization to medium or minimum in the camera settings. But why should users bother changing the camera settings? Also, the One UI 6.1.1 update comes with the August security patch, which is not a current security update. Samsung was originally supposed to release One UI 6.1.1 at the end of August and could have provided an additional camera fix update with a September security patch.

Users have been requesting the brand to release a new camera update for the Galaxy S23 series. The Galaxy S23 series comes with good camera hardware and Samsung’s mistake is not something to be overlooked. We’ll let you know if this issue has been resolved, so stay tuned.

Samsung is preparing to release One UI 7 Beta

Samsung has long been expected to release a Beta version of One UI 7. Rumors since the end of July now seem to be coming true. According to Sammobile, Samsung’s subsidiaries (such as Samsung India and Samsung UK) are testing the new update. We hope this information is true and, as a Samsung user, I am waiting for One UI 7 Beta.

Will we see One UI 7 Beta?

While many users are eagerly awaiting the new version of One UI, Samsung continues to test the new update. Recently, the company released One UI 6.1.1 and it’s only a matter of time before it releases the One UI 7 beta update. According to the emerging information, TM Roh is personally supervising the new software, and therefore the update has been delayed. This is actually a good thing because the company is clearly trying to provide a seamless experience with One UI 7.

One UI 6.1.1 introduced the new Galaxy AI features to users, and now the release of One UI 7 beta shows that we are not far from Samsung’s new interface. One UI 7 is said to offer improved animations, better battery life, and a more usable user interface. Maybe that’s why Samsung is so focused on the first beta of One UI 7 and can offer a smooth experience even in the first beta. Of course, the update is also likely to include some bugs. After all, it will be released in “Beta” status.

No one knows when the One UI 7 beta program will open, but the beta program is expected to open soon. If the update is not released by the end of this month, we may have to wait for the Samsung developer conference in October. Samsung’s developer conference will be held on October 3rd and there’s not much time left on that date. One UI 7 beta can be expected in a few weeks.

Samsung needs to be careful when releasing this update, since the new update is in beta, it could come with some issues and damage users’ devices. They are probably trying to optimize the new features. Don’t forget to take into attention the comments of other users when One UI 7 beta is released.
