Samsung had officially unveiled the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) smartphones in the previous month. Both the smartphones were expected to arrive in the market by the start of this month. The Galaxy A8 (2018) is now available in Netherlands and very soon other European countries are expected to receive it.

On the official website for Netherlands, Samsung has listed the Galaxy A8 (2018) with a price tag of 499 euros (~$597). It comes in three colors like black, gray and gold. As of this writing, there is no confirmation on whether the European markets will be receiving the larger Galaxy A8+ (2018) smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) is packed with a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED Infinity display that supports 18.5:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels. It is powered by Exynos 7885 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. It has a native storage of 32 GB. It is the first Samsung phone to come with dual front-facing cameras that include a 16-megapixel sensor and an 8-megapixel sensor. The back panel of the phone has a 16-megapixel snapper. It includes a 2,000mAh battery.

The Galaxy A8 (2018) is also up for buying in the home market of South Korea with a price tag of around ~$560. The larger A8+ (2018) is not yet available in the home country. Vietnam is another country where Samsung is only selling the Galaxy A8 (2018). However, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) is expected to debut officially on Jan. 10 in India.

Fresh information reveals that the Galaxy A8 duo will be coming to its first country in the first week of January.

A press release by Samsung Vietnam has officially confirmed that the Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) would be made available in Vietnam starting from Jan. 6. In Vietnam, the Galaxy A8 (2018) would be priced at around $485 and the larger Galaxy A8+ (2018) would be costing around $595. Both phones will be coming to the country in color choices like Black, Orchid Grey and Gold.

The press release highlights some of the best features that enrich the experience on the 2018 Galaxy A8 phones. Both phones also come with IP68 certified chassis and Always-on Display feature that are available on premium phones like Galaxy S8 and S8+. VDIS (video digital image stabilization) is a feature that stabilizes the camera footage and the Hyperlapse mode lets users to create time-lapse videos. The 2018 Galaxy A8 and A8+ are the first Galaxy A series phones to support Gear VR.

The 2018 Galaxy A8 smartphones look like the Galaxy S8 duo as they feature Infinity Display design. The Galaxy A8 (2018) has a 5.6-inch S-AMOLED display and the Galaxy A8+ (2018) has a 6-inch S-AMOLED display. Both the smartphones support 18.5:9 aspect ratio and support a resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels.

The Galaxy A8 (2018) has 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage and 3,000mAh battery whereas the Galaxy A8+ (2018) has 6 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage and 3,500mAh battery. Both the phones are equipped with 16-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual front cameras and 16-megapixel rear camera. These phones are pre-installed with Android Nougat OS and also feature rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

In related news, Russian publications are claiming that the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) would be coming to Russia starting from Jan. 1. Well-known technology journalist Eldar Murtazin has claimed that the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) would be respectively available with a price tag of 34,990 Rubles (~$597) and 37,990 Rubles (~$648).

Various features such as support for 18.5:9 aspect ratio and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner that are available on the Galaxy S8 duo are also available on the A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) phones. However, unlike the S8 phones, the A8 (2018) duo lack pressure-sensitive display area at the lower side of the screen that functions as a physical home button.

Since the pressure-sensitive home button is not available on the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) smartphones, these phones cannot be unlocked by long pressing on the home button. Hence, users will be able to unlock these phones by pressing the power button.

Users can also unlock the A8 duo by tapping twice on the display for waking up the device since the the Always-On Display (AOD) feature comes enabled on these phones. The other way to unlock the A8 (2018) or A8+ (2018) is by using the fingerprint sensor located the backside of the phone.

There is no official confirmation on why the company decided to axe the pressure-sensitive home button feature on the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018). It could be a cost cutting move by the company to make the high-end feature available on flagship phones such as Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note 8.

After a series of leaks related to the Galaxy A8 and its bigger sibling Galaxy A8 Plus, Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy A8 and A8+. These smartphones are the successor of the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7.

The design of both the phones is quite similar to the company’s flagship smartphone — Galaxy S8. The devices also feature a similarly Infinity Display and dual front-facing cameras. Both smartphones come with IP68 ratings, making them water and dust resistant.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 sports a 5.6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with screen resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels, an unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio and a curved glass on top. The phone packs 4GB RAM and comes in two models based on internal storage capacity — 32GB and 64GB.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy A8+ comes with a 6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels, curved glass and the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It is offered in two options — 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM as well as 32GB internal storage and 64GB onboard storage.

There is a microSD card slot present on both devices, allowing users to expand the storage capacity on the devices up to 256GB. Under the hood, both smartphones are powered by an octa-core processor with two cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six cores clocked at 1.6GHz.

Coming to the camera department, both smartphones feature a 16-megapixel camera sensor at the back with f/1.7 aperture and a Video Digital image stabilisation (VDis) technology. At the front, the devices sport a dual camera setup, with a 16-megapixel fixed focus sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor for Bokeh effects. Both sensors come with f/1.9 aperture.

The devices are running Android 7.1 Nougat operating system along with the company’s own skin on top. Connectivity options on the devices include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, GPS / A-GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port. The Galaxy A8 is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery while the Galaxy A8+ packs a bigger 3,500mAh battery.

Both smartphones — Samsung Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ are slated to go on sale from January 2018. However, the company has not yet provided any information regarding the pricing of the devices or the availability information for regions other than Europe.

Samsung and LG will be checking the responses of the consumers for the first time in 2018 through the upcoming CES event. Hence, it is an important place for both companies.
