<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a> seems to be exploring ways to simplify communication by integrating third-party video calls directly into its Messages app. </p>

<p>A recent report by <em>Android Authority</em> reveals that the company is testing a feature that will allow users to initiate WhatsApp video calls without leaving the messaging platform.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-1024x576.jpeg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-576722" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-1536x864.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-2048x1152.jpeg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-1920x1080.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-messages-747x420.jpeg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Assemble Debug from <em>Android Authority</em> managed to activate and test the feature during an APK teardown of Google Messages version 20250131. And from the looks of it, the process seems pretty straightforward.</p>

<h2><strong>Video call on WhatsApp through Google Messages</strong></h2>

<p>If both users have WhatsApp installed and configured, tapping the video call button in Google Messages will initiate a WhatsApp call. If the recipient doesn&#8217;t have WhatsApp, the call will likely default back to Google Meet.</p>

<p>For now, the feature seems limited to private chats, but the report suggests it will likely extend to group conversations when the stable version rolls out. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/WhatsAPP-video-call-google-messages.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-672489" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/WhatsAPP-video-call-google-messages.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/WhatsAPP-video-call-google-messages-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/WhatsAPP-video-call-google-messages-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/WhatsAPP-video-call-google-messages-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/WhatsAPP-video-call-google-messages-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Currently, initiating a video call in Google Messages defaults to Google Meet.&nbsp; This requires both participants to have Meet installed, be logged into their Google accounts on both Messages and Meet and have a phone number that supports LTE-based calling. While functional, this setup isn&#8217;t always the most seamless, particularly given the widespread use of other video calling apps.</p>

<p>While Google is testing this WhatsApp integration, there&#8217;s no official word on when it might be rolled out. It&#8217;s possible that Google may trial it in beta versions first to gather feedback before pushing it to a broader audience.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s also unclear what the exact requirements will be for WhatsApp to become the default video call option.&nbsp; Will users get to choose between WhatsApp and Google Meet before a call?&nbsp; Google hasn&#8217;t confirmed this yet.</p>

<p>Beyond video calls, it would be useful if Google expanded this integration to include regular voice calls over the internet, not just video.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-messages/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Messages</a>, a widely used application for SMS and RCS messaging, is potentially adding a long-requested feature – the ability to edit messages after they&#8217;ve been sent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The feature would provide users with greater flexibility and eliminate the frustration of having to delete and resend messages due to typos or other errors.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing1-1024x536.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Messages Message Editing(1)" class="wp-image-605325" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing1-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing1-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing1-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing1-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing1-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing1-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The possible addition of the message editing feature in Google Messages was discovered by Twitter user <em>AssembleDebug</em> <em>(via <a href="https://thespandroid.blogspot.com/2024/02/Google-Messages-Editing-RCS.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TheSpAndroid</a>)</em>, who found evidence of the feature hidden within the beta version of Google Messages.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although the feature is not yet publicly available, its presence in the beta suggests that Google is certainly actively developing it behind the scenes.</p>

<p>AssembleDebug’s report says that users may have a 30-minute window to make edits to sent messages. Additionally, it appears that Google Messages would maintain a transparent edit history, allowing users to view any changes made.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="726" height="628" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-605324" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing.jpg 726w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing-300x260.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing-696x602.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing-486x420.jpg 486w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Messages-Message-Editing-534x462.jpg 534w" sizes="(max-width: 726px) 100vw, 726px" /></figure></div>

<p>The editing process is expected to be simple: long-pressing the message would reveal a new pencil icon, which opens an editing field. However, the report indicates that other users must also have the feature enabled for edits to work correctly; otherwise, they won&#8217;t see the edited messages properly.</p>

<p>During testing with an RCS chat, users didn&#8217;t observe any editing changes on their end, but other recipients received the edited message as separate messages. This discrepancy is said to be because the feature is not enabled for them.</p>

<p>Also, initially, the edit feature may only apply to RCS messages, not standard SMS. Although there&#8217;s no official release date for this feature, its potential inclusion speaks to Google&#8217;s ongoing efforts to improve the functionality and user experience of Google Messages.</p>

<p>At this year’s annual I/O Developer conference, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/?s=google">Google</a> announced a new feature for Google Messages. It was in beta phase with very limited access. The Magic Compose feature for Google Messages as it is called is now rolling out globally. In simple terms, Magic Compose utilizes AI to help users write text messages. </p>

<h2>Magic Compose for Google Messages now rolling out internationally</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Magic Compose in Messages" width="696" height="522" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/odKlgfpLMcg?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>Magic Compose is one of the many AI-powered features from Google when it comes to generative AI. Depending on the context of the conversation, the feature can be used to reply to text messages using suggested responses or improvements to what a user has written themself. Additionally, Magic Compose also allows users to rewrite the text in seven styles including remix, excited, chill, shakespeare, lyrical, formal, or short.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Magic Compose feature is currently only available with RCS messages and it remains to be seen when it will support SMS and MMS. <a href="https://9to5google.com/2023/12/21/google-messages-magic-compose/">9to5Google</a> reports that the feature is being available in Frane and the UK. Users still need to be in the Google Messages beta program, carrier services, and above the age of 18 years signed in to their Google account. </p>

<h2>Magic Compose feature: how to use</h2>

<p>Those who have access to the Magic Compose can find the chat bubble after the emoji shortcut on the text field. To opt in the feature, select ‘Try it’ or to opt-out choose ‘No thanks’. Tapping on the chat bubble will bring up AI-generated responses from scratch. Users can also edit the suggestions they want to use.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If the user is dissatisfied with the suggested responses, the Magic Compose can also rewrite the draft based on the preferred style of the user. To perform this action, users have to tap on the pencil and sparkle icon. The message can be edited if necessary before hitting the send button.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Google says that when Magic Compose is used, up to 20 previous messages are sent to Google servers to generate suggestions. These are then discarded from the servers and not stored to train machine learning models.&nbsp;</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-messages/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Messages </a>might be getting a text editing feature soon. A recent teardown of the app&#8217;s code reveals hints of a text editing feature, potentially letting you fix typos or update messages after hitting send.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="928" height="438" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/image-156.webp?x10805" alt="Google Messages" class="wp-image-544189" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/image-156.webp 928w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/image-156-300x142.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/image-156-768x362.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/image-156-696x329.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/image-156-890x420.webp 890w" sizes="(max-width: 928px) 100vw, 928px" /></figure></div>

<p>This news comes courtesy of <em><a href="https://thespandroid.blogspot.com/2023/12/Google-Message-Rcs-Message-Editing.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TheSpAndroid</a></em>, who unearthed evidence of the feature hidden within the November update. Specifically, they found four new flags within the code:</p>

<ul><li>bugle.enable_edit_ui</li><li>bugle.load_edit_history</li><li>bugle.process_outgoing_edits</li><li>bugle.process_incoming_edits</li></ul>

<p>The clues point to a chat app with message-editing features. The first flag hints at an interface for making changes, while another reveals the ability to see past edits. The third and fourth define how edits are sent and received.</p>

<p>Furthermore, the teardown indicates a new database for storing edit metadata, including timestamps and revision history. This suggests a well-rounded editing experience with detailed tracking of changes.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Google-Messages-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p>Now, it&#8217;s important to note that message editing isn&#8217;t officially part of the Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard. But that hasn’t stopped Google from adding new features.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company implemented end-to-end encryption in Messages even though it wasn&#8217;t part of the original RCS standard.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The big question: when can Android users expect this text-editing feature? Unfortunately, the beta build currently offers no clues, and the feature might still be under development. However, there&#8217;s also the possibility that Google might ultimately decide to scrap it if it&#8217;s not feasible for the company.</p>

<p>Editing sent messages is common among messaging apps, from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WhatsApp</a> to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/telegram/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Telegram</a>. So, Google might simply be following suit and adding this feature to their Messages app.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Google has delivered some cool new features for Messages to amp up its capabilities. These include PhotoMoji reactions, screen effects, and more. You can check out all the details here.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a> has quietly introduced support for Ultra HDR image sharing in RCS chats on its Messages app. This means that users with compatible devices can now send and view Ultra HDR photos within the messaging app.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Ultra HDR image format is compatible with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-14/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Android 14</a> and builds upon the standard JPEG format with additional HDR metadata. This means that it can be viewed on any device, but only devices with HDR-compatible displays will be able to take advantage of the full range of colors and tones.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/image-156.webp?x10805" alt="" /></figure></div>

<h2><strong>Google Messages Ultra HDR image support</strong></h2>

<p>The feature was initially discovered by <em><a href="https://thespandroid.blogspot.com/2023/11/Google-Messages-Ultra-HDR-Support.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TheSpAndroid</a></em>, which noted support for Ultra HDR images was added back in September, just before the Pixel 8 series launch. This was verified by the &#8211; bugle.support_ultra_hdr flag within the apk.</p>

<p>Furthermore, the blog highlights that Google Messages doesn&#8217;t seem to be removing the HDR gain map from Ultra HDR images. Therefore, when the sent photo is saved, it should retain its Ultra HDR quality in Google Photos.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Revamped-Gallery-View-983x1024-1.jpg?x10805" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p>Theoretically, when an Ultra HDR image is sent or received in a Google Messages RCS chat, the image should automatically be displayed with the HDR metadata applied, assuming the device has an HDR-compatible display.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, there is currently no way to tell whether an image is an Ultra HDR image in Google Messages.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Google hasn&#8217;t made an official announcement regarding the availability of Ultra HDR support in Google Messages. However, the feature is expected to gradually roll out to all Android 14 devices in the upcoming weeks.</p>

<p>In related news, Adobe has also recently added support for UltraHDR image editing in Lightroom mobile for Android. This means that users can now edit and export their HDR images directly from the app, without having to use a separate app.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a> is enhancing its Messages app with animated emoji reactions, adding a touch of vibrancy and expressiveness to conversations. The feature was first discovered in the beta version of Google Messages by<em> AssembleDebug</em>.</p>

<p>Reacting to messages using animated emojis is simple. Just long-press on a message and select the desired emoji. The chosen emoji will then appear above the message accompanied by a delightful animation that adds a playful element to the interaction.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Google Message to add some new animations for message reactions <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.1.0/72x72/1f389.png" alt="🎉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /><br><br>Read (Video incl) &#8211; <a href="https://t.co/cqoyemJc9s">https://t.co/cqoyemJc9s</a><br><br>These are not your usual animated emoji reactions which you may have in Google Messages, this is something similar to message reactions in Telegram.<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Google?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Google</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Android?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Android</a> <a href="https://t.co/bPOLexnX5m">pic.twitter.com/bPOLexnX5m</a></p>&mdash; AssembleDebug (@AssembleDebug) <a href="https://twitter.com/AssembleDebug/status/1727624372964454484?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 23, 2023</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>This new addition to Google Messages goes beyond simply enhancing communication; it also reflects the company&#8217;s ongoing efforts to improve the messaging experience and promote the adoption of Rich Communication Services (RCS).&nbsp;</p>

<p>RCS offers a range of features, including read receipts, typing indicators, and group chats with over ten people, making it a more comprehensive messaging solution compared to traditional SMS.</p>

<p>Apple&#8217;s recent decision to support RCS marks a significant breakthrough in the messaging landscape. With RCS support, Google Messages will soon be able to send RCS messages to iPhones, further solidifying its position as a preferred choice for users.</p>

<p>The Camera Shortcut seems to serve the purpose of increased media usage in the Messages. It allows the users to quickly snap a picture and attach it to the message. Even the feature workflow first allows you to take a picture, and then asks you to &#8220;Select Conversation&#8221; from the UI. </p>

<p>In the future, we expect more features in the bar area. The feature seems enabled by the server-side switch, but make sure to update the Messages by Google app by heading to the Play Store. Also don&#8217;t forget to update the Play System.</p>

<p>Google is actively bringing new features to the Google Messages app including the Google Account integration for the web, a full home screen overhaul, and animated emoji support for Web clients. Apart from the smartphone and the Web client updates, the Google Messages app also added support for voice memos on Wear OS. </p>

<p>Google is bringing Wear OS support for more of its Services and Apps. The company pushed official Gmail and Google Calendar Apps for the Wear OS smartwatches. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s been a long time since <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> started pushing RCS as a new standard for texting, replacing SMS and SMS. While the company works on getting more players onboard, the Mountain View-based tech giant keeps on adding new features.</p>

<p>In a new development, Google has announced that all users will now have <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/rcs">RCS</a> enabled by default unless it was previously disabled by the user. Also, RCS messages in the Messages app will now be fully end-to-end encrypted by default.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Google-Messages-RCS-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="Google Messages RCS" class="wp-image-556516" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Google-Messages-RCS-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Google-Messages-RCS-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Google-Messages-RCS-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Google-Messages-RCS-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Google-Messages-RCS-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Google-Messages-RCS-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Google-Messages-RCS.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>As for the enrollment in RCS, instead of manually enrolling for the service or registering with a phone number, the enrollment will now happen automatically and silently in the background, without the need for user input.</p>

<p>With end-to-end encryption, the messages will remain private from Google as well as network carriers, making it a big milestone for the service. The company has also announced that the group chats in Messages are also end-to-end encrypted.</p>

<p>Apart from encryption, RCS comes with several improvements over the standard SMS, such as typing indicators, read receipts, as well as the ability to share high-resolution photos and videos.</p>

<p>Google Messages is now looking like the true iMessage competitor for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> users. While Google is working on convincing more manufacturers to adopt RCS, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a> is a major holdout but if Apple adopts it, then texting between iPhone and Android phones would be much better.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-messages/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Messages</a>, the default messaging app on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Android</a> phones, is set to enhance everyday communication with the introduction of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/animated-emoji/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">animated emoji</a>. This new feature aims to add a touch of liveliness to text conversations, complementing the existing support for standard emoji. Although there are some limitations to its usage, the inclusion of animated emoji promises to make chats more engaging.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Google-Messages-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-550172" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Google-Messages-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Google-Messages-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Google-Messages-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Google-Messages-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Google-Messages-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Google-Messages-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Google-Messages.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h2>Limitations and Compatibility of Animated Emoji in Google Messages</h2>

<p>Animated emoji within Google Messages were first spotted by Reddit user BruthaBeige and subsequently shared on the Google Messages subreddit. Android expert Mishaal Rahman also received a tip about this visual addition, with another user confirming its existence. However, the feature appears to be undergoing a region-restricted rollout and is not available to all users at this time.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="472" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-messages-animated-emoji-472x1024.gif?x10805" alt="Animated Emoji in Google" class="wp-image-550173" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-messages-animated-emoji-472x1024.gif 472w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-messages-animated-emoji-138x300.gif 138w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-messages-animated-emoji-194x420.gif 194w" sizes="(max-width: 472px) 100vw, 472px" /></figure></div>

<p>Currently, the animation feature works when a single emoji is sent. Sending multiple emoji or combining text with emoji does not trigger the animation. Despite this restriction, a wide range of emoji available on users&#8217; keyboards can be animated, allowing for greater expression in text messages.</p>

<p>While some details remain unknown, such as the extent of compatibility and specific release plans, it is expected that Google will provide further information about animated emoji as it becomes available to all Google Messages users. Notably, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/14/google-messages-new-update-features/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recent updates</a> to the app have included a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/25/google-messages-testing-new-badge-highlight-rcs-chats/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">new badge for RCS (Rich Communication Services) chats</a> and expanded direct reply functionality for users of the web version of Messages.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-messages/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Messages</a>, the popular messaging app, is set to receive an update aimed at improving the visibility of RCS (Rich Communication Services) chats. RCS messaging has been a key feature of Google Messages since its rollout to US customers in late 2019, offering enhanced messaging capabilities and improved security. The latest beta version of the app introduces a visual tweak that highlights RCS-enabled chats with a badge featuring the Messages icon in the bottom right corner of a contact&#8217;s profile picture.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="Google Messages" class="wp-image-546872" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Illustration: Soumyakanti Ray</figcaption></figure></div>

<h2>Improved Visibility: Identifying RCS Chats Made Easy with Google Messages</h2>

<p>This new badge is designed to make it easier for users to identify RCS chats directly from the main list of conversations. An interesting aspect of the update is that the badge can adapt to match the default color scheme of users&#8217; Android phones. However, it is important to note that this feature is currently limited to the beta version of Google Messages, specifically version 20230615_02_RC00.</p>

<p>Previously, users had to enter an individual chat&#8217;s text field to determine whether it was an &#8220;RCS Message&#8221; or a &#8220;Text message,&#8221; with the latter indicating a standard SMS/MMS. The introduction of the badge indicates that Google may be working towards making RCS chats more prominent within the app, further differentiating them from traditional SMS in terms of features and functionality.</p>

<p>Google Messages has been <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/14/google-messages-new-update-features/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">implementing various enhancements</a> to improve the messaging experience. In a recent update, the navigation drawer was replaced with the Google logo and Messages branding on the app&#8217;s home screen. Additionally, users can now see message delivery statuses directly from the conversation list, eliminating the need to manually open chats to check for message delivery.</p>

<p>While RCS offers numerous advantages over conventional texting, including features like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/06/google-messages-magic-compose-new/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Magic Compose</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a>, one of the world&#8217;s most profitable smartphone companies, has not yet embraced the standard. Despite <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google&#8217;s</a> efforts to encourage Apple to enable RCS on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/imessage/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iMessage</a>, the company has yet to adopt it.</p>

<p>Google is giving its <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/google-messages">Messages</a> app a fresh new look with a redesigned homescreen that incorporates key branding elements and enhances user experience. The update removes the familiar navigation drawer and replaces it with a more streamlined approach &#8211; possibly for the sake of branding or merely accessibility. </p>

<h3>The 4-colour Google Logo takes over the Hamburger button on the Messages Homescreen</h3>

<p>One notable change is the replacement of the full-width search bar with a simple magnifying glass icon, reducing clutter and focusing attention on the content. Positioned in the top-left corner, the iconic four-colour &#8220;G&#8221; logo of <a href="http://gizmochina.com/category/google">Google</a> takes its place, followed by the word &#8220;Messages,&#8221; ensuring clear branding and easy recognition. The navigation drawer and its hamburger icon, previously used for accessing various options, have been replaced by the account menu. Options like Archived, Spam &amp; blocked, Mark all as read, and Device pairing now reside in this menu, while Your data in Messages, Messages settings, and Help &amp; feedback remain unchanged. The &#8220;Choose theme&#8221; feature has been relocated to the settings menu. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1440" height="1440" data-id="544188" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-old-1.webp?x10805" alt="Google Messages" class="wp-image-544188" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-old-1.webp 1440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-old-1-300x300.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-old-1-1024x1024.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-old-1-150x150.webp 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-old-1-768x768.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-old-1-696x696.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-old-1-1068x1068.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-old-1-420x420.webp 420w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="1024" data-id="544187" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-redesign-1.webp?x10805" alt="Google Messages" class="wp-image-544187" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-redesign-1.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-redesign-1-300x300.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-redesign-1-150x150.webp 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-redesign-1-768x768.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-redesign-1-696x696.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Google-Messages-homescreen-redesign-1-420x420.webp 420w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>
</figure>

<p>In terms of search functionality, Google has discarded the &#8220;Categories&#8221; section in favor of a grid layout. This new design reduces the need for excessive scrolling and offers quick access to categories such as Starred, Images, Videos, Places, Links, Unread, Known, and Unknown.</p>

<p>One of the most intriguing aspects of this redesign is the prominent placement of the Google logo in the top-left corner. It serves as a visual reminder of Google&#8217;s commitment to messaging services and its ongoing RCS (Rich Communication Services) campaign. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/12/att-transitions-rcs-messaging-jibe-google/">AT&amp;T became the most recent company</a> to switch to Google Jibe&#8217;s RCS platform. </p>

<p>In today&#8217;s digital age, messaging has become a fundamental part of our daily routine. From communicating with friends to professional conversations, it&#8217;s a quick and convenient way to keep in touch. <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/google-messages">Google Messages </a>is one of the most popular messaging apps used globally, and soon it&#8217;s set to launch a new feature that will change the way we communicate.</p>

<h3>Magic Compose uses the context of the conversation for personalized responses </h3>

<p>Say hello to &#8220;Magic Compose,&#8221; the latest <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/generativeAI">generative AI-</a>powered feature in Google Messages that can write personalized responses to messages. The feature is set to revolutionize the way we communicate by providing creative, personalized, and fun suggestions for replies.</p>

<p>According to recent reports, Magic Compose will offer a wide range of styles to choose from, including Formal, Excited, and even Lyrical. Yes, you heard it right. Magic Compose will generate poetic responses to your messages. That&#8217;s right, poetry! Users can expect a Seussian and sometimes nonsensical poem based on their prompt.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="928" height="438" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/image-156.png?x10805" alt="Google Messages" class="wp-image-534999" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/image-156.png 928w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/image-156-300x142.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/image-156-768x362.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/image-156-696x329.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/image-156-890x420.png 890w" sizes="(max-width: 928px) 100vw, 928px" /></figure></div>

<p>What&#8217;s more, Magic Compose will use the context of the conversation to suggest relevant replies, making it stand out from the current Smart Reply feature. Its playful name and unique features offer a whimsical and creative touch to the Google Messages app, setting it apart from other messaging apps.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s worth noting that Magic Compose requires an internet connection as it generates its suggestions on Google&#8217;s servers. This feature is expected to be rolled out soon and will be available alongside other <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/artificial-intelligence">AI</a>-powered features in the Google Messages settings. Users can enroll for beta testing via the Play Store to gain early access to these kinds of features.</p>

<p>Magic Compose is a game-changer for messaging apps. It offers a personalized touch to our communication, making it more creative, engaging, and fun. With Magic Compose, messaging will become more exciting and a better way to express ourselves. Google Messages continues to lead the implementation of AI in messaging apps, and we can&#8217;t wait to see what other exciting features the company will come up with in the future.</p>

<p>To better compete with Apple and make Google Messages more akin to an RCS texting system, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tags/google">Google</a> is working arduously on it. Read receipts and end-to-end encryption, which were already accessible on messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram, have been added by the brand. Google Messages&#8217;  recent beta version already includes delivery and read indicators in the checkmark style. On the other hand, not many people could access it because of the limited beta testing. The upgrade is apparently now being rolled out to a larger audience by the brand.</p>

<p>Google began beta testing a replacement for the Messages app&#8217;s spelt-out Sent, Delivered, and Read delivery indicators in October 2022. A single indication displays for sent messages, two indicators appear side by side for delivered messages, and the checkmarks fill in when the text is read. The iconography-based replacements are circles with checkmarks. These checkmarks appear to be appearing in the Messages app for an increasing number of beta testers lately. At least two beta-enrolled phones that didn&#8217;t have the feature before testing started are now showing them.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="928" height="438" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/image-156.png?x10805" alt="Google Messages" class="wp-image-511365" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/image-156.png 928w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/image-156-300x142.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/image-156-768x362.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/image-156-696x329.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/image-156-890x420.png 890w" sizes="(max-width: 928px) 100vw, 928px" /></figure>

<p>The Google Messages app would benefit visually from a wider rollout of the new message delivery indicators, taking it one step closer to feature parity with competing services. The Google Messages app would benefit visually from a wider distribution of the new message delivery indicators, taking it one step closer to feature parity with competing services. Even while Signal, WhatsApp, and Telegram are still the most popular instant messaging services, RCS on Google Messages is positioned to overtake them someday. Google made an effort to showcase the benefits of RCS at CES, but Apple has shown no evidence of changing its mind about being incompatible.</p>

<p>So that was all we had to cover up regarding the recent feature drop of Google Messages. What are your thoughts on this? Do let us know by dropping a comment in your words down below. Thanks a lot for reading the post till the end.</p>

<p>A new report has revealed that the upcoming features on the Google Messages app will<strong> </strong>allow users to view voice memo transcripts, respond to messages with any emoji they like, and more. So let&#8217;s take a look at these features in more detail.</p>

<h3><strong>Voice Message Transcripts</strong></h3>

<p>Whether you&#8217;re chatting via RCS or SMS/MMS in Google Messages, you can create an audio message to send to the other user. However, it might not always be convenient for the recipient to hear to an audio message. To tackle this, Google will be including Voice Message Transcript in Google Messages soon. Users will get an option to automatically transcribe the audio messages as they come in or they can do so manually for individual messages.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="936" height="656" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Screenshot-2022-11-24-121133.png?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-497667" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Screenshot-2022-11-24-121133.png 936w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Screenshot-2022-11-24-121133-300x210.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Screenshot-2022-11-24-121133-768x538.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Screenshot-2022-11-24-121133-696x488.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Screenshot-2022-11-24-121133-599x420.png 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Screenshot-2022-11-24-121133-100x70.png 100w" sizes="(max-width: 936px) 100vw, 936px" /></figure>

<p>The transcriptions in Google Messages appear to be generally accurate, including automatic punctuation based on pauses and voice tone.</p>

<h3><strong>Full Emoji Reactions</strong></h3>

<p>Google is attempting to enhance RCS chat responses. Google Messages has a test feature that allows you to respond with any emoji. The &#8220;add emoji&#8221; signal has taken the role of the thumbs-down emoji.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="725" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Full-Emoji-Reactions-1024x725-1.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-497668" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Full-Emoji-Reactions-1024x725-1.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Full-Emoji-Reactions-1024x725-1-300x212.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Full-Emoji-Reactions-1024x725-1-768x544.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Full-Emoji-Reactions-1024x725-1-696x493.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Full-Emoji-Reactions-1024x725-1-593x420.jpg 593w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Full-Emoji-Reactions-1024x725-1-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>To respond to a message, tap this button to see your Android device&#8217;s whole selection of emojis. Testes over at <a href="https://9to5google.com/2022/09/15/google-messages-voice-transcripts-emoji-reactions/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">9To5Goolge</a> were able to send each other emoji reactions showing that the customized emoji reactions function works on the receiving end even when the option is disabled.</p>

<h3><strong>Revamped Gallery View</strong></h3>

<p>The photo gallery in Google Messages may be revamped. The app allows you to take photos while you&#8217;re on the go and displays a grid of your most recent screenshots and photos horizontally.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="983" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Revamped-Gallery-View-983x1024-1.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-497669" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Revamped-Gallery-View-983x1024-1.jpg 983w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Revamped-Gallery-View-983x1024-1-288x300.jpg 288w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Revamped-Gallery-View-983x1024-1-768x800.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Revamped-Gallery-View-983x1024-1-696x725.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Messages-Revamped-Gallery-View-983x1024-1-403x420.jpg 403w" sizes="(max-width: 983px) 100vw, 983px" /></figure>

<p>Now, users can scroll vertically across photographs, making better use of the entire screen. &#8220;Folders&#8221; is a similar experience that takes the place of &#8220;Gallery.&#8221; The updated photo gallery in Google Messages, particularly its floating action buttons, is in line with Material You Design.</p>

<p>This is a new development for the Samsung premium smartphones in the United States by in the European market, the Sout Korean company switched to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-messages">Google Messages</a> as the default app with last year&#8217;s Galaxy S21 lineup.</p>
<p>The company has also confirmed this move and in a statement, Samsung spokesperson Jordan Guthmann <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2022/2/14/22933170/samsung-galaxy-s22-google-messages-default-rcs">said</a>: <em>&#8220;To create the best possible messaging experience for users — with a richer, more engaging communication experience that is consistent across platforms — Samsung is now making Messages the default messaging app for Galaxy S22 series users worldwide, giving them even better capabilities.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Given that Samsung makes up a significant portion of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> smartphones sold in the United States, the adoption of Google Messages could be proved to be a boon for RCS adoption in the region.</p>
<p>For those who are unaware, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/rcs">Rich Communication Services (RCS)</a> is a next-gen SMS texting version that comes with features like typing indicators, read receipts, and the ability to share higher resolution photos and larger files, among others.</p>
<p>While the technology isn&#8217;t new, it has taken many years for it to reach the market. Although companies agrees to replace SMS with RCS in 2019, telecom network operators in the US started making changes from last year by adding <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> Messages, which now has end-to-end encryption, as the default messaging app on their Android phones.</p>

These messages clog up the inbox, especially if you don&#8217;t delete them immediately. If you use Google Messages, then you won&#8217;t have to worry about these messages.</p>
<p>Among the new features that <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> will be rolling out to its Messages app in India is the autodeletion of OTP messages after a period &#8211; specifically 24 hours. Users will be able to turn on the feature as seen in the gif below and this should help you clear your inbox.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/Bdq8Icg3wCcT3W7nfPysfpUJfkCC7_DUq1cQCw3U1edB4biUMCIf7xNWeJaKKBYpjQxyje7LVxaeLogKSWsmlrTeLoVuPEJz4WseRtt6cLAAAQW9uSYyZkIxomuE7AhW2SGSIa111rm-ympykzdYELGZmb-REWemfb9qPPt7qMw0ZYO2" width="230" height="469" /></p>
<p>Google has also <a href="https://india.googleblog.com/2021/06/messages-makes-it-easier-to-help-you.html">announced that the app</a> will use machine learning to automatically sort your messages into categories. Messages will now be classified into personal, transactions, OTPs, and offers, making it easier for you to find a particular message.</p>
<p>These new features will begin rolling out to Indian users (Android 8 and up) in the next few weeks in English. Google reiterates that these features are optional and can be turned off under the settings menu in Messages. There is no news yet on when it will be available for other regions.</p>

<h4><strong>Google Messages &#8211; Starred Messages</strong></h4>
<p>The ability to star messages is a feature I use a lot on <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/whatsapp">WhatsApp</a>, and I&#8217;m sure a lot of our readers do too. Now the feature is coming to Google Messages, so users can star important messages in their inbox.</p>
<p>The feature will begin rolling out in a few weeks and once available, all you have to do is long-press on a message you wish to star.</p>
<h4><strong>Gboard &#8211; Emoji Kitchen Suggestions</strong></h4>
<p>Keyboard apps have become much smarter since their first iteration. They can not only predict texts but also suggest emojis and stickers. Gboard which is Google&#8217;s own keyboard app will now be able to suggest stickers in the Emoji Kitchen based on the context of your message.</p>
<p>For those who don&#8217;t know what Emoji Kitchen is, it is a feature that lets you combine two emojis into one creative sticker. For example, you can combine the clown emoji with a kiss emoji to get a clown blowing a kiss. With the suggestion, you will get sticker suggestions from the emoji kitchen.</p>
<p>The feature which will work with messages in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, will be available for beta users today and will come to the stable version later this summer.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Talk to your favorite apps with Google Assistant on Android" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/A_OAyYiya40?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<h4><strong>Hey Google</strong></h4>
<p>You can use the Hey Google command to control a number of apps and we don&#8217;t mean just launching them. Google is expanding the feature to more apps including Strava. Users will be able to ask Google Assistant to check a metric on Strava.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-785927 aligncenter" src="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/14/Voice-Access-gaze-detection.gif" alt="" width="500" height="500" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4><strong>Voice Acess &#8211; Gaze Detection and Enhanced Password Dictation</strong></h4>
<p>Voice Access is an accessibility app that allows those with motor impairment to control their device. With Gaze Detection, the app will be able to tell if the user is looking at the phone which is when it will work. Another feature Google has added is enhanced password dictation which allows the user to not only dictate passwords but also ask the app to capitalize an alphabet and also say the name of a symbol such as saying &#8216;ampersand&#8217; for the &#8216;&amp;&#8217; symbol.</p>
<h4><strong>Android Auto &#8211; New customizations and features</strong></h4>
<p>Android Auto owners will be able to choose a dark mode, customize the launcher from their phone, and has added an A to Z button to the scroll bar that makes it easier to jump to an app.</p>
<h4><strong>Android Earthquake Alerts System &#8211; Support for more countries </strong></h4>
<p>The Android Earthquake Alerts System which uses sensors on Android devices to detect earthquakes is now rolling out to more countries including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, The Philippines, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.</p>

Now, the company has <a href="https://blog.google/products/android/new-features-spring-2021">added six new features</a> that should be available for everyone very soon.</p>
<p>The company is rolling out Dark Mode for Google Maps, a new Password Checkup tool for Android users, ability to schedule messages in Google Messages, new Assistant commands that can be used hands-free, a new version of TalkBack, and some more customizations for Android Auto. Here is a list of the same, with information about the changes and updates.</p>
<h3><strong>Password Checkup Tool</strong></h3>
<p>The password checkup tool from Google is very helpful as it checks the user&#8217;s saved login credentials against &#8220;known compromised passwords.&#8221; The feature has been available for Desktop users and now it is coming to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372939 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Password-Checkup-Google.gif?x10805" alt="Google Password Checkup Tool Android" width="1000" height="600" /></p>
<p>If the user has enabled the Autofill on the smartphone for saving credentials, the service will check for any compromised information and then Google will recommend changes to be made, if needed.</p>
<h3><strong>Message Scheduling</strong></h3>
<p>Google Messages application from the company is confirmed to get the ability to schedule messages. The feature was spotted by some users in September last year but wasn&#8217;t officially confirmed by the company.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372940 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Schedule-Messages.png?x10805" alt="Google Messages Scheduling" width="1000" height="562" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Schedule-Messages.png 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Schedule-Messages-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Schedule-Messages-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Schedule-Messages-696x391.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Schedule-Messages-747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>Users can now finally schedule message just by opening the app, typing out the message to the contact and then long-pressing the send button to get options for scheduling. The app will also show suggested timings but users can set their own date and time.</p>
<h3><strong>Google Maps Dark Mode</strong></h3>
<p>Dark Mode has been introduced in almost all applications of Google and now the company is finally bringing it to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-maps">Google Maps</a>. The feature was expected to be available around September 2020 but has been delayed and now it&#8217;s finally here.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372944 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Maps-Dark-Mode.png?x10805" alt="Google Maps Dark Mode" width="1000" height="600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Maps-Dark-Mode.png 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Maps-Dark-Mode-300x180.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Maps-Dark-Mode-768x461.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Maps-Dark-Mode-696x418.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Maps-Dark-Mode-700x420.png 700w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>To enable Dark Mode in Google Maps, the user will need to go to the Settings in the application and then look for &#8220;Theme.&#8221; In there, toggle the option for &#8220;Always in Dark Theme&#8221; or anything else from the options.</p>
<h3><strong>Hands-Free Google Assistant Commands</strong></h3>
<p>This isn&#8217;t a new feature as the hands-free commands for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-assistant">Google Assistant</a> have been available for some time. However, the company is now expanded the list of commands to make it easier to use.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372942 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Handsfree-Google-Assistant.gif?x10805" alt="Google Assistant Hands-free Commands" width="1000" height="600" /></p>
<p>As per the announcement, the user will now be able to set an alarm, play music, send text messages or make calls, all without unlocking the phone. There&#8217;s also a new set of glanceable cards showing basic info on the lock screen.</p>
<h3><strong>Updated TalkBack</strong></h3>
<p>Android has a screen reader named TalkBack which is aimed at those who are blind or with low vision. It is now getting revamped with more intuitive <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/gestures">gestures</a>, a unified menu, a new reading control menu, and more.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372941 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/TalkBack-Update.png?x10805" alt="Google TalkBack Update" width="1000" height="562" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/TalkBack-Update.png 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/TalkBack-Update-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/TalkBack-Update-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/TalkBack-Update-696x391.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/TalkBack-Update-747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>The company claims that it has added several new easy-to-learn multi-finger gestures for Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices to make it easier to interact with apps. It has also added new reading controls that are adjusted with 3-finger swipe. There are also new voice commands, support for two new languages in TalkBack’s braille keyboard, and more.</p>
<h3><strong>Android Auto Customizations</strong></h3>
<p>A new update to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-auto">Android Auto</a> service will being support for custom wallpapers as well as voice-activated games. The company is also planning to offer home screen shortcuts for things like contacts and tasks like checking weather or adjusting thermostat through Google Assistant.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372943 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Android-Auto-Update.gif?x10805" alt="Android Auto Update" width="1000" height="600" /></p>
<p>It will also roll out a new new split-screen view when the car has a wider display and a privacy screen when there are others along with the user in the car.</p>

<p>Called “Schedule Send”, users will now be able to set when they want a message sent to a recipient. Android Police reports that the feature was first available for a few users back in November 2020. Now, it is getting a wider rollout.</p>
<p>Schedule Send is pretty easy to use. Once you type your message, press and hold the send button. You get a dialog box that shows you some preset times and dates that you can choose to have the message sent. There is also an option to choose your own date and time. Once done, tap the send button and the message will have a “Scheduled message” tag underneath it.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Schedule send on Android: Write a message now, send it later" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jxfrZV1kkhM?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>Users will be able to update or delete the message before the chosen date and time. You can also choose to have the message sent immediately. Do note that the message will only send if your phone is turned on at that time or connected to the internet (in case you use the chat feature of Google Messages).</p>
<p>Schedule Send is rolling out as a server-side switch, so even if you have the latest version of Google Messages, it doesn&#8217;t mean you have the feature already. We expect it to be available to most users in the next few days.</p>
<p>This is a nice feature to have but many Android phones will be missing out on it as a lot of manufacturers ship their phones with their own messaging app. However, you can install the Google Messages app from the Play Store and set it as your default messaging app if this is a feature you really want.</p>

Earlier this year, even Xiaomi </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/05/global-variants-of-xiaomi-phones-will-ship-with-google-phone-and-messages-app/"><span style="font-weight: 400">ditched</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> its own messaging app for </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Google/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Google</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’s offering on the global variants of its handsets. This app is simple and does not offer extra functionalities like the stock messaging app found in different OEM skins. But not anymore, as the search giant is working on a very useful feature, which is currently not found in any messaging app (as far as we know).</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">OTPs or One Time Passwords have become common these days. Currently, almost all apps and services use them for authentication. Hene, our inboxes are filled with them.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Therefore, one needs to dedicate time to trash the unwanted OTPs that are usually only valid for 10 minutes and are of no use thereafter. Thankfully, according to an APK teardown by </span><a href="https://www.xda-developers.com/google-messages-6-7-prepares-automatically-delete-otp-after-24-hours/"><span style="font-weight: 400">XDA Developers</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, Google Messages is working on to delete these OTP messages automatically after 24 hours.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">That means you will no longer have to spend time deleting these text messages manually. Also, it is worth noting that this feature will be optional when it goes live. Anyway, who would disable it?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">If this works well, then we certainly expect other messaging apps to implement this functionality.</span></p>
