Google has been manufacturing its own smartphones under the Pixel brand for some time now. These devices are the flagships of the Android operating system, both in terms of hardware and software. As a result, they receive software updates for an extended period of time, receiving new features along the way. Finally, the company has released an update for a model that many believed had been forgotten. Here are the details…

Google’s not done with your old Pixel 4 quite yet

The Pixel 4 and 4 XL, launched by Google in October 2019, were seemingly forgotten due to the end of software support. However, a recent surprise update may revive the Pixel 4. Android expert, Mishaal Rahman, has discovered a new build for the device, which is an experimental build not yet released to the public.

This new build, based on Android 13 QPR1, is part of Google’s Android Privacy Sandbox program, where the company tests new technologies for ad tracking without relying on third-party cookies. The update also includes December 2022 security patches, which some Pixel 5 users are still waiting for.

While this build doesn’t guarantee continued updates for the Pixel 4 and 4 XL, it is an official first-party build of Android, giving Pixel 4 users hope that their devices may not be obsolete just yet. With Google’s renewed commitment to the Pixel line, there may be further updates in the future.

The new build is not available for the Pixel 4 XL as it doesn’t have access to the Privacy Sandbox. The new build for the Pixel 4 is a positive sign for concerned users, as Google only promises three years of Android version upgrades and a year of security patches for its flagship devices, compared to Samsung’s four years of OS updates and an additional year of security patches.

Yesterday, Google rolled out the December 2021 Pixel feature drop for devices ranging from the Pixel 3a to the Pixel 5a. If you are a Pixel 6 or 6 Pro owner, don’t worry, your devices will also receive these updates with some additional bug fixes and patches later this month.

So, what’s in this feature update? Well, a lot. The update comes with Google’s latest security patch and hundreds of optimization changes and bug fixes. But let’s focus on the new features introduced in this feature update.

• Conversation mode for Sound Amplifier

Pixel devices become the first Android phones to gain a conversation mode for the Sound Amplifier Accessibility tool. This feature helps those who are hard of hearing or with hearing impairments. You can use this feature by pointing your phone using a camera UI at any person you want to have a conversation with. The feature will then allow you to pin that person as a participant in the conversation and will provide you with enhanced audio of whatever they say through your Bluetooth headphones while at the same time tuning out background noise.

• Bass Boost for Pixel Buds A-series

We know that the Pixel Buds A-series TWS earphones have a very neutral sound profile. Now, they finally get the Bass Boost feature allowing them to add a little bit of extra power to their sound output. This feature can be accessed through a slider in the pixel buds app, which allows you to slide the bass levels from -1 to +4.

• Ultrawide band integration in Nearby Share
  

With the Android 12 update, Pixel phones gained the nearby share feature, allowing data to be transferred via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, similar to AirDrop. Now, this feature drop will enable the Pixel 6 Pro to use the wideband chip for directed ‘nearby share’ enabling you to send data in a specific direction.

• Now Playing Search

The enhanced now playing search feature which has been rolling out to devices for the past month is officially coming to more devices with the December Pixel feature drop. The feature previously worked with an on-device database to identify songs being played near you, allowing it to work offline and to maintain user privacy. This caused the problem of many songs not being recognized due to the limited on-device database. With the new update, if the song is not recognized by your device, a new search music icon will appear on your lock screen. Tapping the icon will transmit the audio data to Google search, making for quick identification of the song.

• Car crash detection new feature
  

The Google Pixel’s car crash detection feature has been around since 2019 and has helped save multiple lives. With this update, the detection app gets a new feature that allows it to check if you are ‘OK’ in the event of a crash and if there is no response, the Pixel device can share your location and other relevant details with emergency responders. Additionally, this feature gains support in three new regions namely Taiwan, Italy, and France.

• Google Recorder app update

The much-loved recorder app which features transcription capabilities gains support for more languages including Japanese, French, and German. These additional languages that debuted in the Pixel 6 series phones are now available for other supported Pixel devices through this update.

• Double-tap feature for Snapchat

Google just added Snapchat to the list of apps supported by Android 12’s Quick Tap feature. The photo-sharing app can now be set up to be accessed via a double-tap gesture to the back of your Pixel device. The feature even works with screen lock, enabling you to capture those sudden moments on your devices. The feature is supported on Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, and Pixel 6 series devices. Starting from this month, Pixel phones will also get an exclusive ‘Pixel face lens’ filters, that will get more variety via future feature updates.

• Material You on boot

On your first boot after this update, you will notice that the color of your boot logo has changed. The Google logo itself, which appears first, retains its standard brand-identifying colors. But the animation that turns into the Google G (and the associated loading bar) will both pull from your phone’s Material You background colors.

For those unaware, Google‘s new UI, the Material You, introduced with Android 12, is a dynamic theming engine that extracts colors from the current wallpaper and splashes it across the system UI and supported apps, giving users greater control than ever over what their phone’s software looks like.

Other than these major features, Google has also added back the WiFi and internet quick toggle which was for some reason not available since Android 12 launched. You will be able to access the WiFi and Internet toggle from your lock screen post this Feature update.

The Google Pixel 4a was never really built to be the most ideal hiking buddy. As such, it lacks water resistance and sports an all-plastic design, with both the frame and its back panel made of the same. But plastic was still never as brittle as glass, so when reports of some Pixel 4a cracking on their own from the corner began flowing in, it was quite surprising, to say the least.

Complaints from Reddit and the official Google Pixel forums all seem to say the same thing – that the Pixel 4a developed a crack on the top right or left corner without being dropped at all. Many have observed that the crack developed for them overnight. Some complainants have even stated that the crack appeared just a week or so following purchase, which is highly abnormal.

Upon scouring through various reports, we did observe one thing though – almost all of the complaints are from this year. And the Pixel 4a was launched back in August 2020. This could mean that some bad batches with this vulnerability were produced this year and have made their way to users, unchecked by quality control. But of course, this is just an assumption and it’s impossible to know for sure without official clarification.

Another observation was that the newer Pixel 4a 5G is unscathed by the corner cracking issue, making it clear that it’s a Pixel 4a-exclusive thing.

As for the cracks themselves, they’re quite tiny but are still visible enough, especially on the Barely Blue color variant. But a crack, no matter how tiny, is a compromise on the structural integrity of the phone and can thus even grow with time.

Device owners seem to be aware of this and have taken their Pixel 4a to service centers, only for them to be told that physical damage isn’t covered. Worse, many have resultantly gotten their warranties canceled.

Unfortunately, there is still no official word from Google on the matter. We would hence advise the affected to take their grievance to Twitter to try and pull Google’s attention to it.

Google might be making way for a new launch as it has recently delisted certain older models on the Google Fi store. The stock for the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G had been running low for the last couple of weeks, and now, the company has officially delisted both models from its store.

According to a 9To5Google report, the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 were initially listed as “out of stock” at the beginning of this month. But now, both smartphone models from the search engine giant have been officially delisted. In other words, the company has removed the description and specifications for both devices, with the Pixel 4a being the only 2020 model being available for purchase as of right now on the official store.

The brand’s official US Google Store also marks the Pixel 4a 5G as out of stock, similar to the unlocked and Verizon variant of the Pixel 5. Back in 2020, the Pixel 4 series had also sold out prior to the launch of its newer models. So, the company might be following a same pattern again this time around. The Google Pixel 4a made its global debut in August of 2020. However, the device made its way to India only in October. Due to high demand, the smartphone went out of stock within 30 minutes. The next batch of stock took some time to reach the country due to supply chain issues. Now, months after its release in India, the handset is discounted for the first time since the launch offer.

The Pixel 4a is priced at ₹31,999 ($432). However, the device was available for only ₹29,999 ($405) during its inaugural sale. It was the only discount on this phone up until now.

That said, the new offer on Pixel 4a in India brings its price down to ₹26,999 ($364). In other words, the handset’s price has been discounted by ₹5,000 ($68), which is ₹3000 ($41) more than the launch offer.

This offer is only available on Flipkart. The eCommerce giant is offering this discount as part of its ongoing ‘Big Saving Days’ sale, which will last until May 7.

Coming to the phone, the Pixel 4a is not a value for money proposition in India. Also, it comes only in a single Just Black color option in the country.

But it is a niche phone. The Pixel 4a is the only Google Pixel handset available in India right now. It is also the cheapest compact smartphone in the region with a 5.8-inch OLED display.

Lastly, customers can buy this device for an even cheaper price with additional optional bank discounts and can get either a  Google Nest Mini, a Xiaomi Mi Smart Speaker, or a Lenovo Smart Clock Essential at just ₹1,999.

Google has been marketing devices running its operating system towards professional environments for years now through its Android Enterprise program. Now, the company is also advertising its Pixel smartphones as well, which are ‘Built for business.’

The search engine giant has just launched the “Pixel for Business’ website that basically states that “The Google phone” is “Built for business.” The company even added three reasons for this with the first being “Safe and secure, all by design.” In this, the company essentially highlights its custom built Titan M chip, which was first seen in the Pixel 3 back in 2018. For those unaware, the chip secures the bootloader that prevents OS rollbacks to protect the data within the device and is even tied to the biometric security system.

Furthermore, Google also added that one can “Manage devices simple and seamlessly,” with zero touch enrollment that does not require one to manually setup the device, while also offering management configuration APIs, and also arrives with Android Enterprise Recommended status. The company even offers the Work profile to separate personal information from business related data, while even aiding in managing Google Play that lets a company’s IT determine which apps can be allowed.

Lastly, the firm said that the devices can “Help when and where you need it.” Through this, the company advertises its consumer-centricness. It showcased its Google Assistant, Gmail, Docs, Duo, and Meet as being “integrated right in.” In the “Google Phones” tab on the new website, four handset models can be observed, including the Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5 as well, with a brochure for each of these models.

Google’s Pixel 4a has a single rear camera. Now, if you think that’s pretty dull compared to the 2020 standards, take a look at what DXOMARK has to say about its rear camera performance.

Right off the bat, if we look at the overall score, the Pixel 4a gets 111 points. That’s a pretty good leap from the predecessor(Pixel 3a– 101 points) despite having a similar lens.  This is by no means comparable to the top contenders like Huawei, Xiaomi, and Vivo. Still, Pixel 4a reportedly fares well in Camera, Video with just one lens. In fact, it scores a respectable 122 points in the Photo category.

Google’s Pixel 4a was announced back in August. It is a budget offering from Google to compete with the likes of Apple’s iPhone SE 2020. You can take a look at the hardware specs of the Pixel 4a rear camera below:

Pixel 4A Camera: Pros and Cons

DXOMARK says the image quality of Pixel 4a is similar to yesteryear Pixel 4. It has good color reproduction, autofocus, exposure, and artifacts control. In the video category, it scores 98 points which is better than the Pixel 4. However, despite having good colors, autofocus, and noise levels, overall video quality seems to be well behind the competition.

Overall, if we look at the Pros, it has good exposure, autofocus, white balance(night) in Photos, and good vivid color reproduction(indoor, outdoor), outdoor noise levels in videos.

However, it has Cons like restricted dynamic range, orange color cast, low detail in Photo and video. Additionally, it also produces Autofocus failure in long-zoom, limited Portrait DOF(depth of field).

After months of delays, Google finally launched the Pixel 4a mid-range smartphone a couple of weeks ago. As if multiple delays for the launch wasn’t enough, the company is creating another issue for the buyers.

In Canada, the company has started sending out trade-in kits to those who have pre-ordered the Pixel 4a smartphone on the launch date. The kit expires a month from when it was dispatched. Those who pre-ordered the phone have an expiration date in the first week of September, after which the old phone loses trade-in value.

However, the issue with this is that the company will start shipping the Pixel 4a smartphone to the buyers from 10th September, which means that it will reach customers somewhere around mid-September.

So essentially, Google is expecting Pixel 4a buyers to send in their older device even before they receive their newly ordered smartphone. It seems that Google has messed up again with the logistics department given that the trade-in kit has an instruction document that shows how to transfer data from the older device to the new phone.

This seems limited to the Canadian market only because there have not been any such reports from other regions. Ideally, the trade-in kit should be received after the customers have got their hands on the new phone.

Design

Apple made the iPhone SE 2020 with premium materials, including a glass back and an aluminum frame. Despite being affordable, it is even water-resistant with the IP67 certification (dustproof as well). But on the other hand, its design is very outdated: the handset has the same look as the old iPhone 8 released back in 2017, with ugly thick bezels around the display. It even brought back the Touch ID. The Google Pixel 4a is definitely more beautiful with its borderless display adopting a punch-hole design, but its materials are cheaper: its body is made of plastic and it does not offer any protection against dust and water. Display

Despite the iPhone SE 2020 has a pretty nice Retina display with the True-tone technology and higher brightness, the OLED panel of the Google Pixel 4a coming with the HDR certification is definitely more exciting. On the other hand, the iPhone SE 2020 has a more compact display (the diagonal is just 4.7 inches, which makes it the most compact last-generation flagship), so it is easier to use with one hand and to keep in a pocket. The Google Pixel 4a has a way bigger 5.81-inch panel, but surprisingly, it is lighter than iPhone SE: it weighs just 143 grams. Both phones get stereo speakers and great audio quality.

Specs & Software

The hardware department of the iPhone SE 2020 is superior to the Google Pixel 4a: the handset packs the Apple A13 Bionic SoC which is the same flagship chipset found on the iPhone 11 lineup. The Google Pixel 4a is powered by the midrange Snapdragon 730G SoC. Another big difference is the operating system: iPhone SE 2020 runs iOS, while Google Pixel 4a runs Android. Both will be updated for a long time, but the user experience is very different. Unfortunately, iPhone SE 2020 and Google Pixel 4a do not come with 5G connectivity. This fall, Google will release a variant of the Pixel 4a with 5G support and a different chipset: probably the Snapdragon 765G.

Camera

Apple iPhone SE 2020 and Google Pixel 4a are very close if we consider the camera department. They both feature a 12 MP main sensor with OIS, but with different software and algorithm. Unfortunately, we still had no chance to try the Google Pixel 4a or to see enough camera samples to give a definitive verdict. In each case, you get a pretty nice camera phone, but not a camera phone and no secondary sensors. Even the selfie cameras are pretty nice, despite you can find something better in the market.

Battery

The battery life is the weakest point of the iPhone SE 2020: with just 1821 mAh, it barely brings you to the end of the working day with moderate use. The Google Pixel 4a has a more generous 3140 mAh unit which can last a lot more on a single charge. If you want a battery phone, just do not go for the Apple iPhone SE 2020 and get a Google Pixel 4a instead. But note that the iPhone SE 2020 supports wireless charging, while Google Pixel 4a does not. Both support 18W fast charging.

Price

The iPhone SE 2020 has a starting price of $399/€399 for the 64 GB configuration. The price of the Google Pixel 4a is different depending on the country, but it goes between $349/€349 and €389 for the configuration with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The iPhone SE 2020 is definitely a better phone when it comes to performance and builds quality. It is a hard fight when it comes to cameras, while Google Pixel 4a has a bigger battery and a more modern design. Naturally, there is the eternal Android vs iOS battle which we are not going to discuss in this comparison. Both come with a very compact and lightweight design, unlike almost every phone released in 2020. Google earlier today announced the Pixel 4A alongside the Pixel 4A 5G and Pixel 5. While the 5G models will be available in the Fall, the Pixel 4A is already on preorder in the US and is billed to go on sale in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Japan, and Canada. While for the Indian market, the phone is said to go on sale in October.

Google did reveal some detail of the availability in India which is the world’s third-largest market after the US and China. Although the India pricing is yet to be announced, the company hinted the phone will not be available in India until October, two months from now.

According to Brian Rakowski, VP of Product Management at Google during the launch, “This year, Pixel 4a—which launches in India in October—will continue to bring features like the incredible camera and feature drops that make your phone better over time. All of this packaged in sleek new hardware at a more affordable price”.

The Google exec also disclosed that the India price for the Pixel 4A will be announced close to the October launch date. The company also disclosed that the mid-range phone will be sold exclusively on Flipkart.

In addition, Rakowski disclosed that the tech giant has got no plan to launch the two 5G models in India ever. In essence, the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G won’t be dropping in India at all. Well, except the company changes its mind due to market forces.

“Regarding the two new 5G Pixel phones that were announced globally today, these will not be available in India or Singapore, based on a variety of factors including local market trends and product features,” explains Rakowski.

Google last week released several teasers which point to the launch of the Pixel 4a on August. The tech giant has indeed launched the Pixel 4A but added a new twist by announcing the Pixel 4A 5G and the Pixel 5. The two 5G models will, however, be available this fall.

The Pixel 4A presents with a plastic body which has been the company’s routine for models in this price point. The device packs a single rear camera housed in a square-shaped module alongside the dual-LED flash.  The module is located at the upper left corner of the back panel. The device also packs a physical fingerprint scanner on the back. At the right side of the fuselage is a mint-coloured power button as well as the volume rockers.

Talking of the display, the Pixel 4A sports a 5.81-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display supports just 60Hz refresh rate. The display has a hole-punch design, making this model the first Google phone to have such a feature. The punch-hole houses a single 8MP Sony IMX355 sensor with f/2.0 aperture, 84° FOV and EIS support.

The rear camera is a single 12.2MP Sony IMX363 image sensor with an f/1.7 aperture lens, 1.4µm pixel size, 77° field-of-view, Dual Pixel Phase Detection, OIS, and EIS support. The Pixel 4A equally supports video shoot at 4K resolution at 30fps. For slow-motion videos, the device is capable of 1080p resolution at 120fps.

Google is known for its software prowess and the Pixel 4A is adorned with several topnotch Google Camera features such as Live HDR+, dual exposure controls, Night Sight with astrophotography, Social Share, Portrait Mode, and Super Res Zoom.

The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor paired with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The phone packs a 3,140mAh battery which is pretty small compared to the industry standard but Google touts the battery of being able to deliver “up to 24 hours” of usage with a “mix of talk, data, standby and use of other features, with always-on display off.” In addition, the phone comes with 18W fast charge support through a USB-C port.

On the software side, Google Pixel 4A runs Android 10 OS out of the box. Google says the device will get 3 years of Android OS upgrades so expect it to get Android 11, Android 12 and Android 13. Isn’t that super cool? You’ll also get 3 years of monthly Android security patch updates, too. Further, the Pixel 4a features Google’s Titan M, a discrete hardware security module that’ll eventually let you store your driver’s license on your phone and access it when there’s not enough battery left to boot up Android.

Google Pixel 4a Pricing & Availability

The Pixel 4a carries a decent $349 price tag and is available to pre-order presently on Amazon. The device is expected to ship on August 20th and is available in a single Basically Black colour. Not to worry though, Google is also selling its signature Fabric cases, which are machine-washable, soft-to-touch fabric cases made from over 70% recycled materials. The cases are available in Basically Black, Blue Confetti, and Static Grey. The phone will also be available in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Japan, and Canada and in India in October.

On the other hand, the Pixel 4A 5G will have a $499 price tag and will ship sometime this fall.

Google‘s upcoming Pixel 4a smartphone has been elusive for quite a while now despite several launch dates pushed forward which ended up not materializing. However, a new August 3 date was rumoured recently and Google shared a couple of teasers that confirm the launch will take place on that day.

Ahead of tomorrow’s launch, the full specs of the Pixel 4a have leaked on Twitter. This is the first time the complete specs of the Google smartphone are coming out. The leaked specs include a 5.81-inch OLED display with a punch-hole design, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. The display is said to feature support for Always On Display and Now Playing.

The Pixel 4a is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset paired with 6GB if RAM. There is also 128GB of internal storage onboard. We expect the phone to be available in other storage options but the leakster tips the price of this version to be $349 in the US. If that turns out to be true, it will be a steal.

For photography, the phone packs a single 12.2MP main camera at the rear with F/1.7 aperture, 77° FOV, Dual Pixel Phase Detection and OIS. At the front, there is an 8MP sensor with an F/2.0 aperture, 84° FOV. The camera can shoot videos in 4K resolution. It also supports 30FPS and 108p 120FPS captures. It also crams a 3140mAH battery and suports 18W fast charging. The device will also come with dual stereo speakers.

The leakster hints the phone will be available in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Japan, Canada in addition to the US. We expect it to hit other markets as time goes on.

We have lost count of the number of leaks Google‘s upcoming Pixel 4A has featured in. Yet Google has remained mute about the next-gen mid-range smartphone. Well, until now. The tech giant has released a placeholder text (Lorem ipsum) which teases what we are positive is the Pixel 4a on the Google Store. Also, the header images of the “Made By Google” Twitter and Facebook pages were updated recently. The new photo has a white background with a black hole-punch in the top-left corner. This obviously points to the Pixel 4a which has a punch-hole selfie camera at the upper left corner.

The Twitter handle even got renamed to “The Google RTing, Meme Loving, Info Sharing Stream.” It also contained a link to a new Google Store landing page with an Easter Egg that reveals an August 3rd date. You’ll have to tap the boxes until they match the Google logo’s ordering of blue, red, yellow, blue, green, and red. The text then reads: “The Google Just What You’ve Been Waiting For Phone.”

Further, on the lorem ipsum landing page, there is a phone-shaped object which is covered in a checkerboard pattern that matches the Pixel 4a. The text above the phone-shaped object has several texts which are not in Latin, with words such as camera, Night Sight low-light capabilities, bokeh, megapixel, and longlasting battery, clearly confirming this refers to the Pixel 4a.

You definitely should take this as a confirmation that the Pixel 4a is launching on August 3 and should block the date on your calendar.

Tipster @jon_prosser had earlier tipped over two weeks back that the smartphone will launch on the said date. Today’s tweet is a confirmation of his earlier tweet, affirming the information is 100% correct. The tipster shot into the limelight with the iPhone SE 2020 with all of his shared details turning out to be correct, including the launch date. Bu then, this isn’t an official confirmation. Google is yet to announce any launch details regarding the Pixel 4a.

The Pixel 3a is now “out of stock” on the Google Store in the U.S. Meanwhile the Google Pixel 4a is busy bagging different certifications which indicates its launch could be near.

Recently, the Google Pixel 4a was certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in India, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in Singapore and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. The Pixel 4a was initially expected to debut at the Google I/O 2020 event. However, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was then speculated that the smartphone will be announced in June. However, a reliable tipster had recently claimed that the Pixel 4a may go official on July 13. Almost everything is known about the upcoming Pixel 4A just like other Pixel smartphones before it. The only thing unknown at the moment is its exact release date and price. As for the latter, it could launch for as low as $349 according to a previous report.

So what do Singapore’s IMDA and India’s BIS certifications for Pixel 4A reveal? Nothing but its model number G025N and presence of NFC, which is obvious to support Google Pay. Anyway, we hope Google launches the device in July and not delay it further.

Google Pixel 4a is the upcoming mid-range smartphone from the search engine giant. It is also the watered-down variant of the Pixel 4 flagship smartphone launched last year. The phone was set to launch a couple of months ago, but it still has not been made official.

The launch of the Google Pixel 4a has been delayed a few times, mainly because of the market conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, ahead of the phone’s launch, it has appeared on FCC.

The FCC filing for A4RG025J published today although the application was filed on 2nd April. It lists three models — G025J, G025M, and G025N — first being US-based model and the other two likely featuring cellular radios for other parts of the world.

Google will again utilize an e-label for a clean rear panel and thus, the back panel will only feature the “G” logo. The layout is identical to the current labels on existing Pixel phones. Apart from this, the FCC listing reveals nothing about the phone.

Google Pixel 4a smartphone was earlier rumoured to get launched on 22nd May but the launch has been delayed. There are some reports hinting that the launch of Pixel 4a will be taking place along with Android 11 announcement on 3rd June.

However, the latest report claims that the Google Pixel 4a will be announced on 13th July and will go on sale from August. It says that the Just Black color variant will be up for purchase from 6th August while the Barely Blue variant will be available from 1st October.

There’s no reason given about Google pushing the launch of the Pixel 4a smartphone but the report mentions that it is because of market conditions. It also adds that there’s no supply chain issue and the units are ready to ship.

Another major revelation is the not only the Pixel 4a, Google is also delaying the launch of the upcoming Pixel 5 smartphone, which is expected to pack 5G support. While no timeline has been revealed, it seems that the launch could take place towards the end of the year, possibly in November.

The company could try to start selling the smartphone around the holiday season hoping for a good sales run. Apart from the market conditions, this could be a strategy of Google given that the sales numbers of Pixel 4 series is nowhere near what the company expected.

It was recently rumoured that Google would start manufacturing Pixel phones in Vietnam. Fresh facts have emerged that the Pixel 4a is the first model manufactured in the Asian country.

A Vietnamese blog reports that a source who works inside the factory which assembles Google’s upcoming product has provided pictorials which confirm the Pixel 4a is being produced in Vietnam.

The factory located in Vinh Phuc is said to be run by a Taiwanese company but we can’t confirm if it is Foxconn. The factory also assembles iPads for Apple. According to the source, the Pixel production line was moved from Taiwan, including the SMT (Surface Mount Technology) line which is used to produce PCB (motherboard) for modern electronic devices.

The leaked photos shows that there are two different models available in white and black. The white is larger and is codenamed Blembe. This is suspected to be the Pixel 4a. The black one which is smaller is the Pixel 4a codenamed Sunfish. According to the sources, the Pixel 4a is made from ‘grainy plastic’, ‘plastic buttons’ and ‘mid-range phone feel’. Apart from the difference in sizes,the Pixel 4a XL also seems to pack a different camera setup. Although the other is grainy, it looks like a dual or triple camera setup onboard.

Talking about Pixel assembly line in Vietnam, this person shared that due to the new finishing, the output is very small, mainly SMT output and then transferred to Taiwan to install the finished product. Currently, the number of Pixel 4a installed in Vietnam is only a few hundred per week, considered as a test line. Anyway, the Pixel 4a has not been introduced yet, so one can expect that in about a month when everything goes into orbit, there will be Pixel 4a made in Vietnam (currently not received this certificate), according to the share.

Google Pixel 4a was expected to go on sale from May 22. However, the latest rumour hints that the first sale has been shifted to June 5. The price is even rumoured to start at $349, $50 less than the earlier rumoured price.

Google Pixel 4a budget smartphone, which is a watered-down variant of the Pixel 4 launched last year, has been making rounds since past several months. In the latest development, a new set of renders of the upcoming Pixel 4a have leaked online, showcasing the smartphone’s design.

The first thing you’ll notice is the phone’s display, which is surprisingly different than what we saw on the Pixel 4. The company seems to be finally moving away from the thicker chins and foreheads design and we’ll finally get a Pixel phone will thin bezels.

It also reveals that the smartphone will come with a punch-hole cutout in the top-left corner of the display for the front-facing camera. This also confirms that the Project Soli radar sensors won’t be included in the device, given the lack of space.

Google has a thing with codenames. Since the birth of the Pixel brand, the company has often given each model a unique codename. It was confirmed in February this year that the Google Pixel 4A is codenamed Sunfish. A device known as Google Sunfish has appeared o the database of GeekBench. This is believed to be the Pixel 4A.

The device ran on GeekBench V4 and as usual, a few specs are listed. The Pixel 4A will run Android 10 out of the box and the model in question features 6GB of RAM. The device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm processor with a base frequency of 1.80Gz. The Pixel 4A is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 730 processor and the benchmark score is within the range of other SD 730-powered models like the Redmi K20.

Geekbench didn’t reveal any other details but the Pixel 4A is expected to feature a 5.81-inch OLED display with a punch-hole at the upper-left corner. The display has a full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. A 3,080mAh battery will keep the lights on and the phone supports 18W fast charging.

In what could be regarded as a “marriage of strange bedfellows”, a tech journalist has released samples of the upcoming Google Pixel 4a, comparing it with that of the Redmi Note 7. The samples were released by Julio Lusson (@julio_lusson), the same guy who had shared a video review of the Pixel 4a on his YouTube Channel, TechnoLike Plus in March.

Samples shot by the Redmi Note 7 from 2018 was compared with that of the Pixel 4a and obviously, the Google model was steps ahead of the Xiaomi model. But then, the Redmi Note 7 is powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset while the Pixel 4a is expected to pack a  Snapdragon 730 SoC.

The Redmi Note 7 packs a bigger 48MP main sensor which is expected to perform better but the 12MP sensor on the Google model outputs better samples. In terms of details, vivid clarity, dynamic range, colour and noise levels, the Pixel 4a’s samples are obviously better. The Redmi Note 7’s camera received rave reviews when it was launched so we won’t make further comments. We expect the Pixel 4a to be released soon and right then, we can get reviews from expert reviewers before we can conclude the Pixel 4a packs a stunning camera.

The Pixel 4a will have Google’s own Titan M security chip just like last year Pixel 3a.

The source also hinted that the Pixel 4a will come with 6GB of RAM and will have a 3080mAh battery with 18W fast charge support. The Pixel 4a has previously been shown to have a 64GB model while the current source hints at a 128GB storage variant. The device will come with a 12.2MP rear camera and for selfies, there is an 8MP camera.

The Pixel 4a is expected to be announced during the Google I/O 2020 keynote on May 12th.

Google altered its product cycle last year with the launch of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL after launching the flagship-grade Pixel 3 models. The tech giant is likely to follow the same product path as last year’s Pixel 4 and 4 XL are expected to get two cheaper versions dubbed Pixel 4a and 4a XL.

The Pixel 4a series has been appearing in leaks for a while now. We have got a couple of pictures of the Pixel 4a protective casing which give us clearer views of the device as they contain renders of the model.

The renders are consistent with the leaked photos of the Pixel 4A that have made the rounds in recent times. The front view details a punch-hole selfie camera located at the top left corner. At the rear, the device packs a square-shaped camera module. Interestingly, the module houses a single sensor and LED flash. The device equally houses a fingerprint sensor at the rear.

The device will also come with USB Type-C port throwing up the possibility of fast charge support. There is also opening for the good old 3.5mm audio jack at the top edge. The power button and volume rockers are located on the right side of the device.

Google is yet to reveal when the Pixel 4A and 4A XL will be launched but the Pixel 3A models were launched in May 2019. Thus, it is safe to presume the launch is imminent.

After launching the next-generation Pixel flagship lineup — Pixel 4 and 4 XL, tech giant Google is now gearing up to launch a budget variant of the same, dubbed as Pixel 4a and will be the successor to the Pixel 3a.

The Google Pixel 4a was expected to get officially announced at Google I/O 2020 conference in May this year. However, the company has now cancelled the planned I/O 2020 this year, so it remains to be seen when the phone gets launched.

Ahead of the launch, real-life images of the upcoming Pixel 4a budget smartphone has surfaced online, revealing the design of the device from the front as well as back.

From the first look at the leaked images, its clear that the Google Pixel 4a is small in size and the company is also offering rounded corners on the device. It has has narrow bezels around the display and the screen has a punch-hole cutout in the top-left corner.

On the back side, the device has a single camera sensor along with an LED flash which are placed on a square-shaped camera module to ensure that the design language of the phone seems similar to that of Pixel 4 series. There’s also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for added protection.

Previous reports have confirmed that the Pixel 4a is codenamed “sunfish” and will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset. As for the display, the phone could feature a 5.7-inch or 5.8-inch screen. The device will reportedly have around 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C port.

Google’s Pixel 3a series was successful and if the company plays its cards right, the upcoming Pixel 4a could also be a huge success. It has more potential in markets like India where the Pixel 4 and 4 XL haven’t launched.

While there have been three codenames for the same, it has now been confirmed that the Pixel 4A is codenamed “sunfish”, which will be the successor to Google Pixel 3A. Based on the previous leaks, the device will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 SoC.

This also confirms that the smartphone won’t have support for 5G connectivity. However, there’s no information available if other devices — redfin, bramble, or both code-names will have Snapdragon 765 SoC.

If those two devices end up having 5G connectivity support, it could mean that the phones will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC. However, there’s not much information available about these phones yet.

So far, it has been revealed that the Pixel 4a could come with a 5.7 or 5.8-inch single hole-punch display. The device is said to have a single rear camera setup and will feature a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

It will reportedly have around 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C port. Google’s Pixel 3a series was successful and if the company plays its cards right, the upcoming Pixel 4a series could also be a huge success. Given that the Pixel 4 lineup hasn’t debuted in the Indian market, the budget-friendly 4A has lots of things riding on it.
