In September 2016, LeEco had released Le Pro 3 smartphone powered with Snapdragon 821. Now, the Chinese firm has announced Le Pro 3 AI Edition which is its first dual rear camera phone that is equipped with Artificial Intelligence and its two models are driven by MediaTek Helio X23 and X27 chipsets. Both smartphones have been compared here to know the distinguishing features on the new Le Pro 3 AI Edition.

LeEco Le Pro 3 AI vs. LeEco Le Pro 3: Design

The Le Pro 3 has a full metal-clad body that measures 151.4 x 73.9 x 7.5 mm and weight 174 grams. It is available in colors like rose gold, gold, silver and gray. The Le Pro 3 AI also sports a metal unibody design and its dimensions are 152.4 x 75.1 x 7.5 mm and its weight is 168 grams. It comes in color choices such as rose gold, gold, and black.

One of the most striking changes that can be seen on the Le Pro 3 AI Edition is the presence of dual rear cameras on the back panel. Both phones also feature rear-mounted fingerprint scanners and they do not feature the standard 3.5mm audio jack.

The Le Pro 3 and its newer AI edition are both packed with IPS LCD screens of 5.5 inches. Both screens offer a full HD screen resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The Le Pro 3 offers 80% NTSC color gamut and 500nit brightness whereas the Pro 3 AI edition produces 85% NTSC color gamut and 600nit brightness. Both the displays are flanked with 2.5D curved glass. The Le Pro 3 offers a screen-to-body ratio of 73.8 percent whereas the Le Pro 3 AI Edition delivers 72.69 percent screen-to-body ratio.

CPU

The Le Pro 3 is fueled by Snapdragon 821 SoC that includes a 2.35 GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 530 graphics. The Le Pro 3 AI Edition Standard model is powered by MediaTek Helio X23 chipset that includes a 2.3 GHz deca-core processor and Mali-T880 MP4 graphics The Eco variant of the phone has Helio X27 chipset inside it that is comprised of a 2.6 GHz ten-core processor and Mali-T880 MP4 graphics.

RAM, ROM, and Storage

The Le Pro 3 has 6 GB of RAM for its 128 GB storage model. Another 6 RAM variant with 64 GB storage is also available. Its 32 GB and 64 GB variants include 4 GB of RAM.

The Le Pro 3 AI Edition comes with 4 GB of RAM for both Standard and Elite models. However, the Standard variant features 32 GB of storage and its Eco edition has 64 GB of storage. Neither the original Le Pro 3 nor its AI Edition feature a microSD card slot.

Battery

A 4,070 mAh battery is present under the hood of the Le Pro 3. The Le Pro 3 AI Edition has a slightly smaller battery of 4,000 mAh capacity. These phones carry support for fast charging through USB Type-C port.

The Le Pro 3 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS overlaid with EUI 5.8 interface. The new AI Edition phone has the same OS but it is customized with a newer EUI 5.9 interface. The Le Eco Pro 3 AI Edition is the first phone from the company to arrive with its LeLe AI assistant that is integrated with LeEco apps and some third-party apps. It can be activated even through the display is turned off and carries support for several voice driven functions. It is smart enough to learn users’ interest over time and thereby provide better results with more usage.

The Lele AI assistant is not present on Le Pro 3.

A 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture is present on Le Pro 3. For shooting selfies, it is packed with an 8-megapixel f/2.2 aperture frontal camera.

Apart from Lele virtual assistant, the other USP of the phone is its dual rear camera setup that includes a pair of 13-megapixel camera sensors with one sensor for shooting in monochrome format and the other one for capturing in color. The twin camera supports features like f/2.0 aperture and dual-LED flash. An 8-megapixel f/2.2 aperture shooter is present on the front side of the phone for snapping selfies.

The 4 GB + 32 GB and 4 GB + 64 GB of Le Pro 3 respectively cost, 1,799 Yuan ($261) and 2,499 Yuan ($362). Its 6 GB + 64 GB and 6 GB + 128, are respectively priced at 1,999 Yuan (290) and 2,999 Yuan ($434). The Le Eco Pro AI Edition Standard and Eco models are respectively tagged at 1,799 Yuan ($261) and 2,399 Yuan ($348). As far as availability is concerned, the Le Pro 3 AI Edition will be available for purchase from April 14.

The Le Pro 3 continues a familiar design language we’ve seen on previous LeEco models.

It is made entirely of metal and it sits comfortably in the hand. What is nice about this phone is that it has a relatively sleek profile despite the fact that it has a beefy 4070mAh battery.

We have a 5.5” 1080p display. Sure, some may say it is a downgrade from the 2k resolution panel but the display is still plenty sharp, bright and vibrant. However, the direct sunlight legibility could be slightly better.

We have an 8MP selfie shooter along with the notification LED light and nicely backlit capacitive buttons.

When it comes to optics, there is a 16MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture and a dual tone dual-LED flash. However, the camera lacks OIS.

The fingerprint sensors have been great on all the LeEco phones and the Le Pro 3 is no exception. The scanner is fast, accurate and it allows you unlock the phone straight from the standby mode.

The buttons are nice and tactile, and they do not rattle.

We have the IR blaster to control devices like TVs but gone is the headset jack, so you would need to use the included adapter or Bluetooth earphones. On the other hand, the sound quality via the USB-C port is very good.

As for loudspeaker, it is definitely one of the better ones you can find in this price range of phones.

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review: HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

When it comes to hardware, the LeEco Le Pro 3 is yet another powerhouse that sports the newest Snapdragon 821 chip.

My review unit comes with 4GB of RAM and just 32GB of non-expandable storage, which is a shame for LeEco.

On the other hand, you can opt in for the top-shelf model that has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

These kind of specs allow you to play any 3D games without any issues. Also, the phone does not overheat even after extensive playing sessions.

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review: USER INTERFACE

I have always liked the LeEco’s eUI, which is built on top of Android 6.0.

The user interface is clean-looking and there are quite a few features to play with. One of my favorites is the multitasking window, where you can also access your quick settings toggles in one place.

Also, you can customize the phone with themes, fonts, wallpapers or use the search bar to quickly find stuff.

After using the phone for quite a bit of time, I can tell you that it is fast and fluid on the daily basis.

However, you have to know that the Chinese version comes with some bloatware, there is the Letv services button instead of a home button, the Google services are not pre-installed and there are no multi-languages.

On the other hand, you can always throw in a third-party launcher and the Google Now launcher finally works on the eUI.

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review: CAMERA

As usual to the LeEco phones, you can take pictures very fast thanks to the PDAF system.

There are just some basic settings and there aren’t too many shooting modes to choose from. Most of the users may miss the pro-mode but I really miss the auto-HDR mode, which really helps in some tricky situations.

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review: IMAGE QUALITY

IT IS HIGHLY-RECOMMENDED TO DOWNLOAD FULL RESOLUTION CAMERA SAMPLES TO SEE THE ACTUAL IMAGE QUALITY. THE PICTURES UPLOADED ON THE WEBSITE ARE 50% SMALLER IN RESOLUTION.

The daylight images taken with the Le Pro 3 look pretty sharp and detailed for a sub-$300 phone. However, most of the shots turned out to be a little underexposed and the colors seem to be over-saturated to me.

Most of the indoor pictures were taken in poor lighting and thus, there is quite a bit of noise and less detail.

The low-light camera performance is a disappointment, to be honest. There is such a low amount of detail and there is plenty of noise. I expected a lot more from the Le Pro 3 in this department.

The selfie image quality leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the pictures I took just look soft and there could be more detail.

When it comes to the 4k video quality, I would say it is above average. The footage could definitely look a little sharper. Also, I didn’t like the sound recording quality and the lack of OIS makes the video look a little shaky. See the video review for a video sample.

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review: CONNECTIVITY

When it comes to connectivity, the Le Pro 3 is a great performer in almost all departments.

My biggest frustration is that there is no microSD card slot as I have a version with only 32GB of storage, which is not enough for me.

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review: BATTERY LIFE

The phone ships with a beefy 4070mAh battery, which will let you use the phone for at least a few days, depending on your usage habits.

I could constantly get way over 6 hours of screen-on time on kind of heavy usage, which is a good result.

Also, the Le Pro 3 comes with the fast charger to make the most out of the Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 tech. I was able  to fully charge the phone in just around 1 hour.

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review:  CONCLUSIONS

The LeEco Le Pro 3 is a very solid phone that does not even cost $300 but it does not mean it is perfect.

The device sports a premium all-metal build, nice and sharp display, some bleeding-edge hardware components that assure a great day-to-day and gaming performance. Also, the Le Pro 3 has a great battery, a reliable and fast fingerprint reader.

However, you have to know that there is no headset jack, so would need to use the supplied adapter or Bluetooth earphones. Also, there is no microSD card slot, the user interface has some Chinese bloatware and last but not least, the low-light and the selfie camera performance is poor.

At the end of the day, the LeEco Le Pro 3 is still a solid phone for the price but you have to consider if the previously mentioned shortcomings are important to you or not.

LeEco just released the Le Pro 3 flagship and it turned out to be a powerful smartphone. The phone comes with the mighty Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset, which is 10% faster than the already powerful SD820 along with 4GB / 6GB RAM options. Looks wise, the phone follows the traditional LeEco design philosophy, coming with a thin 7.5mm body which accounts for 98% metal. The back features a premium brushed metal finish and the phone has to go through 36 complex processes along with CNC machining to get to the final product.

Lucky for us, there are four color options available for the device, gold, rose gold, gray and silver. Apart from the powerful internals, the phone also features a powerful camera, sporting the Sony IMX298 sensor at the back with 16MP, 6P lens, f/2.0 aperture, sapphire lens, PDAF, HDR etc. The company has reportedly worked a lot on the night shooting mode on the device and the inbuilt algorithm is said to improve brightness, details and suppress noise.

LeEco officially announced the Le Pro 3 flagship an hour back, and now, the company has given out the official pricing of all the models!

The Le Pro 3 with Snapdragon 821, 6GB RAM and 64GB storage will retail at just 1999 Yuan ($300)!

There’s a cheaper model as well, the 4GB RAM + 32GB variant retails for just 1799 Yuan ($270)!

And if you want something that’s a bit more powerful, you have the special editions: 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB models.

The SD821 + 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM model retails for 2499 Yuan ($375), while the SD821 +  6GB RAM + 128GB model retails for 2999 Yuan ($450). Now, if you are wondering why these two models are costlier than its other counterparts, then it is because they are special editions with special video content. LeEco just revealed more details about these editions, called “Zhang Yimou” Edition, named after the popular Chinese Movie director. These two special editions will be themed after the upcoming movie, “Great Wall” featuring Matt Damon. Special content include exclusive behind the scene videos of the movies as well as movie themes and wallpapers along with a leather flip case and retail box based on the movie.

The Le Pro 3 will be up for reservations starting today at 5PM in China and the phone will go on sale on September 28 at 10:00 AM.

Like always, LeEco has surprised us all with the pricing of the Le Pro 3 flagship. Snapdragon 821 at just 1799 Yuan is just amazing. Even OnePlus 3 with 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM retails at 2499 Yuan, and on the other hand, the Le Pro 3 with the same memory combination retails for just 1999 Yuan ($300).

LeEco has been making the headlines for the past few weeks, all thanks to its new flagship, the Le Pro 3. Today, the company has officially taken the wraps off the device and the phone is just as powerful as we thought it would be. The phone comes with the brand new Snapdragon 821 chipset, making it the first Chinese flagship to feature this chip along with 6GB RAM and other powerful configuration.

DESIGN:

The Le Pro 3 is made out of premium metal which accounts for 98% of the body and features brushed metal finish. The phone measures just 7.5mm in thickness! It’s really impressive that the company managed to limit the thickness to this level, as it features a large 4070mAh battery inside! When compared to competitors like Redmi Note 3 (8.2mm) and Mate 8 (7.9mm) who feature such large batteries, this is clearly a great achievement for the company.

There is the ‘Le’ logo on the front (you can see it in the image down below) with a breathing light, which is patented by the company. Further, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone, like the earlier released Le Max 2 and Le 2 models. So, you have the USB Type-C based CDLA standard.

The Le Pro 3 comes in four color options, Silver, Gray, Rose Gold and Gold.

SPECS:

As mentioned above, the Le Pro 3 features the super fast Snapdragon 821 chipset, which was announced recently by Qualcomm. This will be a slightly faster version of the already powerful Snapdragon 820 chipset and the ASUS ZenFone Deluxe Special Edition is the only other phone in the market to feature this chipset. The chip will be clocked at up to 2.35GHz and the Adreno 530 GPU inside will clock at 653MHz.

There will be four memory variants (UFS 2.0) of the Le Pro 3 and unfortunately, there is no 8GB RAM model as previous rumors stated. So, the four variants are as follows: 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM, 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM, 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM and 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM.

As for the display, the phone features a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD panel. You also get 2.5D arc glass on top of the display. The camera at the back comes with a 16MP sensor featuring 0.1s PDAF, Increased Sharpness, Intelligent Beauty Mode, Gender Recognition etc while up front, there is an 8MP shooter. So, this is basically standard flagship smartphone specs of 2016.

The battery on the device is large, making sure that the Le Pro 3 will easily last for more than a day. The phone comes with a 4070mAh battery with 24W QC 2.0 fast charging technology. The company revealed in the conference that the phone can charge up to 2000mAh in just 30 mins, which means almost 50% charge in just half an hour. Further, it said that the battery is extremely durable — 500 charges still retains 90% of capacity.

Like other LeEco models, you have a fingerprint sensor at the back.

As for connectivity, the Le Pro 3 comes with dual SIM dual standby, dual antenna Wi-Fi MIMO with maximum transfer speeds of up to 866 Mbps. 3x CA helps it achieve up to 600MBbps speed on 4G LTE networks. There are dual speakers present on the device with a maximum 93dB volume.

Finally, for software, the phone comes with EUI 5.8 based on Android Marshmallow.

PRICE:

The Le Pro 3 will start at just 1799 Yuan ($270) for the 4GB RAM + 32GB model. The 6GB RAM + 64GB model retails at 1999 Yuan ($300) which is amazing. LeEco has a conference scheduled for September 21, which is exactly a week from now. The event will hold in Beijing and will see the company launch their new flagship device, the LeEco Pro 3.

In the spirit of the launch, a new poster for the event has been released on weibo, and apart from reminding us of the date, LeEco has gone further by dissing Apple’s recently launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The poster mocks Apple’s statement that says the iPhone 7 Plus offers an extra hour of battery life over previous models. There is also an image of a battery squashing an apple with blood splattered around on the poster.

Part of the highlights of the upcoming phone is the new battery and in a leak from yesterday, we know there will be two versions of the Le Pro 3. One will have a battery capacity of 4070 mAh, and a higher-end version will have a larger 5000 mAh battery. If we compare these two battery sizes to that of the iPhone 7 (1960 mAh)  and the iPhone 7 Plus (2900 mAh), LeEco sure has the bragging rights.

Chinese tech giant LeEco has officially released notice of a launch event taking place on September 21. The innovative tech company revealed this via a post on China’s social networking website, Weibo, with a theme that seems to suggest that the new device would be a stunner which would change our entire perception of what a flagship phone should be. We had already gotten the wind before now that LeEco is preparing something powerful which would pop in September with top-notch specs.

According to previous rumors, the expected device is the Le Pro 3 which is expected to be the first Chinese smartphone to feature Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 821 chipset. The Le Pro 3 is also said to pack 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage onboard. The flagship Le Pro 3 is also expected to feature a mammoth 5,000mAh battery, and still have a thin body touted to be just 7mm thick. The Le Pro 3 will also rock a 16MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera.

The LeEco Le Pro 3 had earlier appeared on AnTuTu benchmark, pulling a marvelous score of 163K, which is an indication of the power that LeEco has infused on the upcoming flagship device. The score makes this look more powerful than any device we’ve seen lately.

LeEco’s CEO had earlier taken to Weibo to criticize Apple for launching a flagship iPhone 7 which lacked credible innovations that would justify the exorbitant price tag. Well, that might just have been a publicity stunt to grab some attention but it could also be that he knows what they have in the offing would sure dwarf what the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus pack.  Also, so you’d know, the name of the expected device is a bit confusing as earlier rumors have revealed the phone to be called as the Le 2S Pro.
