Ola Electric is back with a new electric scooter that’s both practical and fast. The new Ola S1 Pro Sport has officially launched as the brand’s fastest e-scooter, with the official tagline “All Rounder. All Sport.” So here’s everything you need to know.

Ola S1 Pro Sport: What makes it special?

With the new Ola S1 Pro Sport, the company is bringing a number of improvements ranging from its aerodynamics, new sporty look, and a carbon fiber grab handle. Ola Electric arrives with the brand’s in-house 13kW Ferrite motor, which can deliver 16kW peak power and 71Nm torque. Thanks to this, it can hit a top speed of 152km/h, going from 0 to 40 km/h in just 2 seconds.

As per the brand’s official claim, the 5.2kWh battery pack on the Ola S1 Pro Sport has an IDC range of 320 kilometers on a single full charge. Riders also get a 7-inch display with touchscreen support for crucial data, including navigation, alerts, performance, and even optional AR Helmet support for real-time racing lines. Ola built the S1 Pro Sport with advanced safety systems like an ADAS camera on the front for collision alerts, blind spot detection, and more.

The brand new electric scooter was announced for a starting price tag of Rs 1.5 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the 4kWh model, while the higher end 5.2kWh variant costs Rs 1.65 lakhs (ex-showroom). This is currently available for pre-booking on the brand’s official website, with the EV rolling out sometime in January 2026. There are multiple colors to choose from, namely Porcelain White, Jet Black, Silver, Passion Red, Stellar Blue, and Midnight Blue.

Ola S1 Gen 3 Series

The Ola S1 Gen 3 series are the brand’s latest EVs that bring various upgrades like the new brake by wire technology and ABS system, which features patented brake sensors. Ola Electric’s entire e-scooter lineup is also getting a refreshed design for a more comfortable yet sporty look. It features MoveOS 5 that brings DIY mode, Smart Park, Smartwatch app, road trip mode, Bharat mood, and even a dedicated SOS alert that can communicate with your contacts when it detects an accident.

The lineup consists of four models that come in varying prices:

Ola S1X Gen 3

The entry model is the Ola S1X Gen 3 that offers the new brake by wire tech, new design, chain drive, and a colored LCD screen. It is available in three variants, namely 2kwh, 3kwh and 4kWh models. The Ola S1X Gen 3 has a peak power of 7kW, up to 242km IDC range, and up to 123kmph top speed.

Ola S1X+ Gen 3

The Ola S1X+ Gen 3 is a step higher with similar features as the base S1X, but it only arrives with a 4kwh model. This has a peak power output of 11kW with a 242km range, and up to 125kmph top speed. You can buy this model in 5 color options, namely Midnight Blue, Jet Black, Passion Red, Industrial Silver, and Porcelain White.

Ola S1 Pro Gen 3

The Ola S1 Pro Gen 3 also features the brake by wire tech and mid drive motor, but it also adds new rim decals new die-cast aluminium grab handle, improved seat ergonomics, and mirrors that match the body colors. There are 3kWh and 4kWh models with a peak power of 11kW. You also get a 242km IDC range and up to 125kmph top speed.

Ola S1 Pro+ Gen 3

Finally, we have the Ola S1 Pro+ Gen 3 is the top end model with all of the features as the more affordable models like brake by wire tech, rim decals, and others. However, it also features Dual ABS and dual tone seating design. That’s not all, you can also get it in 4kWh and 5.3kWh models with the 5.3kWh variant featuring the 4680 Bharat Cell from the Ola Gigafactory. It offers a higher peak power of 13kW and a longer range of up to 320km IDC. IT has a higher 141kmph top speed as well.

Ola Electric, well-known in India for its ride-hailing for its electric scooter, has surprised the industry by announcing its entry into AI hardware. The first set of chips, expected to launch in 2026, includes three models: Bodhi 1, Ojas, and Sarv 1. Ola claims Bodhi 1 excels in power efficiency, a critical factor given the rising power demands of AI systems.

While Ola’s presentation highlighted impressive performance and power efficiency benchmarks for their prototype chips, comparing them to Nvidia GPUs, some crucial details were missing. The specific Nvidia GPU used for comparison wasn’t disclosed, and the company hasn’t shared where these chips will be fabricated.

This announcement signals India’s determination to enter the global AI race, currently led by the US and China. With a vast pool of tech talent, India has a valuable resource in its pursuit of AI advancement. Ola Electric is readying the release of a new electric motorcycle from its stables. Ola’s CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has shown a teaser image of an upcoming Ola Electric e-motorcycle. This will be the brand’s first electric motorbike, as the company has a remarkable collection of e-scooters. The teaser image revealed the battery pack, electric motor, front sprocket, and final drive chain of the model. It is rumored that the new Ola Electric electric motorcycle official announcement could be made on August 15.

Barely a year ago, Ola Electric showcased four concept electric motorcycle models with futuristic designs. The social media post by Ola’s CEO is believed to be a pre-production model of one of the four bikes showcased by the company. The e-motorcycle, as per the teaser image, has a steel tubular frame that houses a compact battery pack. The electric motor sits below the battery pack while the drive chain has a feasible front sprocket. The image also reveals several control modules strategically located on the bike.

The teaser image also reveals a portion of the seat highlighting the presence of forward-set footpegs which confirms that the model is an e-motorcycle. The seat height is almost the same as the height of the battery pack, suggesting accessible saddle height for riders. The name and full specs of the teased Ola electric motorcycle are still under wraps. It is unlikely that the model will become a production model within this year. The August 15 announcement of Ola Electric’s upcoming product offerings could provide the needed optics for the e-motorcycle.

Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, Ola Electric has begun deliveries of the Ola S1 X e-scooter in India. The Ola S1 X is the brand’s most affordable electric scooter and is a strong competitor of the traditional gasoline-powered scooters in India.

The Ola S1 X is the only Ola Electric e-scooter that has a physical key. The Ola S1 X is offered in three battery options namely 2kWh, 3kWh, and 4kWh. All three models are currently being offered at lower prices due to the price cut Ola implemented on the models. The current prices place the Ola S1 X e-scooters as the most affordable electric scooters currently in India.

The S1 X has a range of 91km for the 2kWh battery pack. A full charge of the battery is achieved in 7.4 hours and the scooter has a peak power output of 6kW. The 3kWh version of the e-scooter has a 151km range and a top speed of 90km/h. It goes from 0 to 40km/h in 3.3 seconds. The 4kWh version of the e-scooter has a claimed range of 190km but maintains the same performance specifications as the 3kWh version.

The Ola S1 X e-scooter can reach a speed of 40km/h in 4.1 seconds, showing a decent degree of acceleration. The scooter has a top speed of 85km/h and there are three riding modes – Eco, Normal, and Sports. The S1 X has a 3.5-inch LCD screen in place of a touchscreen instrument cluster.

The Ola Electric S1 X e-scooter is priced in India at Rs. 69,999 ($838), Rs. 84,999 ($1,017), and Rs. 99,999 ($1,197) for the 2kWh, 3kWh, and 4kWh versions respectively. Ola Electric says affordability, accessibility, and ease of ownership make the S1 X an attractive proposition for potential buyers in the subcontinent. There are no indications yet on the global availability of the Ola S1 X e-scooter.

Bengaluru-based EV manufacturing brand, Ola Electric has filed patents for three upcoming electric bikes. The new motorcycles are similar to the Ola Roadster concept e-bike that is listed on the company’s website. The famous Ola S1 e-scooter lineup has been a huge hit even with the issues relating to battery fires previously. Ola Electric plans to foray into the electric motorcycle segment with the filing of the patents for the upcoming motorcycles.

Design & Features

Ola has tinkered with several ideas in the past but these recent patent filings could signal a new lineup. The latest journals for patents in India indicate that three new patents for electric motorcycles were filed by the company. The three designs in the patents could translate to three different versions of the Cyber Racer model. The three models, from the patent images, have visual distinctions that set each of them apart from the others.

As per the models, the patent with the thinnest tire and basic alloy wheel design seems to be the base model. It has a hub-mounted motor at the rear wheel, a basic swingarm, and shock absorbers. It has sharp creases and a flat single-piece seat. The other two models are sportier than the base variant and both seemingly share the same basic specs including the powertrain, suspension, swingarm, and most of the details on the panel. There are however some differences that distinguish the two models from each other.

One of the models comes with a single-seat architecture while the other features a dual-seat layout. The ergonomics are also slightly different between the two sporty models of the upcoming Ola Electric motorcycles. The single-seat version has a taller and flatter handlebar while the other has a clip-on handlebar.

There are still several differences between the three Ola Electric patents including their battery cooling, bodywork, and front faces. There are no indications yet on the launch date of these models. The patent filing could however indicate that the unveiling of the new Ola Electric motorcycles could be on the horizon.

Ola Electric launched the S1 X electric scooter back in 2023. The company has now unveiled an upgraded version of the S1 X with an extended range, thanks to its bigger 4kWh battery. Ola is also offering extended warranty programs for the battery of the new S1 X 4kWh. The new battery offers up to 190km of range on a single charge.

Features

Ola Electric is a major player in the Indian electric two-wheeler market. It has continued to churn out new and innovative models and the revised S1 X is another evidence of the brand’s strategy. As more and more variants of the Ola S1 electric scooters are being introduced to the market, the company says it is also expanding its infrastructure. Ola Electric will increase its service centers in India by 50% with a target of having more than 600 service centers by April 2024.

Ola Electric is also improving its charging network, with 10,000 stations to be available by June 2024. There are also improvements to the charging technology, with the new chargers offering about 75% faster charging than home chargers. They are claimed to provide up to 31 miles of range with just 20 minutes of charging.

Ola Electric says its new fast chargers can be purchased for home use and it is priced at Rs. 29,999 ($360). Ola Electric is also offering a standard warranty program for its battery that covers up to 8 years or 80,000km whichever comes first. The warranty can be extended to 100,00km at a price of Rs. 4,999 ($60) or 125,000km for Rs. 12,999 ($157).

The Ola S1 X is available in multiple two-tone colorways and industry watchers are staking that the scooter could soon export to other markets outside the subcontinent. The S1 X has a top speed of 90km/h and comes with a 4kWh battery. It can run from 0 to 40km/h in 3.3 seconds but omits some premium features of the top models in the S1 X lineup like the S1 X+. The S1 X new version is priced affordably at Rs. 109,999 ($1,325).

However, a sources close to the matter told Car and Bike, that Ola Electric is planning on launching a new affordable model in the S1 series of electric scooter. This new model will reportedly be priced under 80,000 INR. This is basically the same price range as the most popular petrol based scooters that are currently available in the Indian market. This new budget model will also offer most of the features that are found in the S1 and S1 Pro models.

For those unaware, Ola Electric had launched the S1 back in August as an affordable electric scooter, with the Pro model being a higher end variant. The S1 was launched for a price tag of 99,999 INR and offered 5.5kW motor with 8.5kw peak power. This electric scooter offered a max range of up to 141km and a top speed of 95kmph. So if this news is true, we can expect the new S1 model to have similar features.

In the tweet, the senior official also said that the company’s first ever electric car will be the “sportiest car ever built in India,” which is a tall claim. Looking at the teaser video, we can tell that the new electric car from the brand will feature a sporty sedan type of design. As of right now, finer details regarding this Ola Car is still unknown.

However, it is believed to be announced sometime by the end of next year. Furthermore, the taxi service has also announced that it will be sharing more information regarding this electric vehicle next month, on August 15. Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal disclosed that the company is developing its own battery cell, and there will be more in the future. The CEO recently initiated a discussion regarding the company’s goals in the battery technology sector by tweeting a clip of an Ola-branded cell. The battery pack’s specifications have not yet been made public. However, if the business adopts a strategy akin to Tesla, Ola cells might be comparable to those used in its current Ola S1 Pro e-scooter.

Notably, the Ola S1 Pro now has a 3.97 kWh battery, which, according to the company, enables the scooter to travel 180 km on a single charge. Riders have recently reported that with the MoveOS 2.0 upgrade, they were able to ride in Eco mode for 300 km on a single charge.

The battery cell is the first one that the company has created on its own. The CEO claims that the business has a lot more to offer in terms of battery technology.

Currently, LG Chem Korea is the supplier of the 3.97kWh battery pack used by Ola Electric. The 224 cell components in this battery pack are NMC cells (Lithium-Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt-oxide). This is done in two cell sets totaling 112 units. Additional parts, including connecting buses and a variety of sensors to measure, analyze, and carry out various operations, are also included in the full battery pack.

It is now known that Ola Electric may be evaluating ways to carry out the development and manufacturing operations internally. This may enable the business to control production costs, avoid problems with the supply chain, and better manage innovation and long-term growth. It is even possible to connect this fact to Ola Electric’s long-standing desire to create a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cell for its budget-friendly scooter. Notably, LFP cells are stable and less expensive to produce. The stability of the cells would be a feature that Ola is longing for, citing the recent Ola S1 Pro E-scooters fire incidents.

The Ola battery’s specifics, including its energy density, energy capacity, and battery chemistry, are still a mystery. However, it’s feasible that the business begins by developing licensed battery technology internally before expanding to newer and alternative technologies.

Despite just recently getting into the electric scooter market, Ola Electric has already become the market leader in the segment. The popular ride hailing service has managed to take the lead, even amidst backlash over recent fire related accidents of its EVs.

To take the throne, the company even overtook the former market leader Hero Electric. According to the Vaahan Portal of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the brand managed to sell 12,683 units of its electric scooters just last month, which marked a month on month rise of 39 percent over March 2022. Furthermore, Ola Electric has also recorded significant growth in EV sales even amid scrutiny from the government and complaints over its newly launched e-scooters.

For those unaware, we had previously reported on S1 Pro owners complaining of issues and bugs like the reverse mode. We had even covered the e-scooter catching fire in Pune and a man parading around the S1 Pro with a donkey after it stopped functioning mere days after it was purchased. The company is relatively young and had first launched the S1 Pro back in August 2021. Since then, it had seen robust orders and pre-orders for its latest release.

And despite fears of electric vehicle’s fire safety in India, the company managed to see a sharp sales rise even in the month of March 2022. On the other hand, Okinawa Autotech was the runner up in terms of sales while Hero Electric declined to the third spot after seeing a sharp fall of around 50 percent tin April 2022.

In a weird act of protest, the owner of an Ola S1 Pro walked around a town in India after the electric scooter broke down and stopped working. The owner made the public stunt against Ola Electric.

The S1 Pro user also shared the video online. The man from the Beed district of Maharashtra tied a donkey to the new electric scooter and walked it across town. Furthermore, the man claims that he faced lackluster after sales services from the EV unit of the popular ride hailing platform. Notably, the owner also attached a banner on the donkey and the S1 Pro electric scooter, which read “Beware of this fraudulent company, Ola” and, “Do not buy two wheelers of Ola Company.”

The man in question is Sachin Gitte, who bought the new yellow S1 Pro back in September 2021 but the delivery of the electric scooter was completed on 24th March 2022. However, Gitte said that the EV stopped working just a few days after, on April 8. The reason for this public stunt also arrived due to poor responses from the company regarding his electric scooter, not functioning. Sachin added that Ola Electric did not provide any solution even after the company sent a mechanic.

This news arrives just a couple of days after the company recalled 1,441 scooters in India. For those unaware, the brand’s S1 Pro model had caught fire in Pune, while other reports also highlighted other issues with the electric scooter. So, it remains to be seen just how Ola Electric responds to this stunt.

Ola Electric, the electric vehicle division of the popular cab hailing service, has just announced that it will be recalling more than 1,400 units of its electric scooters in India following recent fire accidents.

According to a Reuters report, the company is issuing the recall following a government probe into the fire accidents of its electric scooters. For those unaware, there have been many cases of electric scooters catching fire in India. These incidents weren’t just limited to Ola Electric scooters, and even included the likes of Okinawa and Pure EV as well. Notably, Okinawa has also issued a recall for its electric scooters in the India following these fire accidents.

As of right now, most of these incidents are believed to be caused due to the battery on the EVs overheating in the Indian summer. A lack of proper safeguards and design flaws are believed to be the primary factors for these accidents. Thus, it had prompted the Indian road transport ministry to urge the Centre for Fire, Explosive, and Environmental Safety (CFEES) to launch an investigation into these incidents to find out the root cause and prevent such accidents in the future.

In a statement, Ola Electric said that “We will be conducting a detailed diagnostics and health check of the scooters in that specific batch and therefore are issuing a voluntary recall of 1,441 vehicles.” Although, the brand also added that one of its vehicles catching fire was an isolated event and these recalls are just a “pre-emptive measure.”

A few days ago, Ola Electric announced that they will temporarily be opening the booking window for the Ola S1 Pro on March 17th and 18th to celebrate the festival of Holi. The CEO of Ola Bhavish Aggarwal also tweeted out that this will be the last chance to get the Ola S1 Pro for Rs 1,29,999 (ex-showroom).

The announcement comes after Ola competitor Ather announced a price hike for its A450X and the 450 Plus electric scooters. The brand has not yet revealed the new pricing of the S1 Pro electric scooter, but experts have speculated a 3-5% price hike.

Other than that, Ola will also be pushing out the MoveOS 2.0 via an OTA update around the end of April. The MoveOS 2.0 is said to enhance the overall ride experience and bring features like turn-by-turn navigation, location sharing with the scooter, and locating a charging station nearby. The update will also bring a companion app, new Bluetooth-based functions, cruise control, and general bug fixes and performance improvements.

Ola S1 Pro features

Ola S1 Pro electric scooter comes with an 8.5kW motor capable of producing 58Nm of torque. The 3.97kWh battery of the Ola S1 Pro promises a 181km range on a single full charge. However, in real-life experience, the actual range comes out around 135km. The scooter takes around 6 hours to charge from 0-100 percent via a home wall socket. Ola claims a top speed of 115km/hr on the S1 Pro and a 3-second time to acceleration speed of 0-40km/hr.

Other features on the EV include a 7-inch touchscreen display and 3GB onboard RAM. The e-scooter has 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and voice control connectivity options.

In a clear expansionist move, Indian ride-hailing startup and fast-rising EV manufacturer Ola plans to build a £100m ($134.06m) electric vehicle research and development (R&D) facility in the United Kingdom. The news comes as a boost to the UK automotive industry which has had a mixed bag of fortunes in recent times.

Ola is a rapidly-expanding tech firm with electric vehicle manufacturing interests. It already has a few e-scooters under its belt and recently unveiled its concept car design in India. Ola’s investment in the new R&D plant is to subsequently yield electric vehicles wholly designed by the firm.

Ola Electric, days back raised $200m in funding at a reported $5b valuation from Japanese tech investor, Softbank. It is also reportedly planning a stock market float to raise as much as $2bn.

Ola is a leading ride-hailing app, with the company saying it is the third-largest in the world. Ola launched its taxi app operations in the United Kingdom in 2018. It is operational in several UK cities including London, Birmingham, and Cardiff. The new facility will be sited in Coventry in the West Midlands, the center of the UK automotive industry. It will create up to 200 jobs in design and engineering, with focus also beamed on research on EV battery technology.

Ola said the new UK facility will collaborate closely with the headquarters, although little detail was provided on the manufacturing capacity of the Coventry facility.

The £100m ($134.06m) investment seems to be a vote of confidence in the UK automotive industry as it continues to rebound after years of underperformance. This has led to a recent surge in investment in the sector. London’s trade issues with the EU also saw some of the big players holding back to get clarity in the market. The UK EV market holds some promise as EVs still only accounted for about 12% of UK car sales in 2021.

According to the company, the new UK plant, Ola Futurefoundry will enable the company to tap into the automotive design and engineering talent in the UK to create the next generation of electric vehicles. The plan remains to continue to produce affordable electric vehicles in the UK. The company hopes to create a world-class design and R&D team with global sensibilities.

Popular Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ola Electric is expanding its operations to the production of electric vehicles and its concept EV just unveiled points to progress in its evolution. Ola Electric plans to have its first battery-electric car by 2023, which is a very optimistic target.

Ola Electric is aiming to tap from the massive opportunities in the car segment of the EV market and the company is certainly pursuing its development of the Ola electric car with great vigor. There has been some official confirmation that the company’s first electric car which was teased by its CEO, will be released in 2023. Ola says it will also have a separate manufacturing facility for its four-wheelers, as the current Future factory will not be adequate for the manufacture.

There are also indications that Ola will be getting funding support from Japan’s Softbank Group, which is an indication of the investment focus of the company. Ola continues to pursue its goals of making India a hub for electric vehicles. The favorable regulatory and incentive regime in the subcontinent, coupled with the challenges and cost of driving combustion vehicles, has continued to draw new converts to the electric vehicle train in India. Earlier this week, Ola Electric ramped up the production of the S1 scooters to 1000 units a day. The company’s CEO Bhavesh Aggarwal also announced that Ola Electric will soon be opening the payment window for remaining customers. Now, Aggarwal has announced the date at which the final purchase window of the Ola S1 electric scooter will open.

Earlier today, the Ola Electric CEO took to Twitter to reveal that the final purchase window will open on January 21st at 6 PM for customers who have previously booked an S1 scooter and already paid the initial Rs. 20,000. The eligible customers will need to pay the remaining sum on the Ola app to initiate the delivery process.

The delivery process is said to commence from January end and customers will likely receive their S1 scooters by the end of February.

The announcement comes as a sigh of relief for customers who had previously paid the Rs 20,000 deposit but Ola had to close the final payment window due to hindrance in production caused by the ongoing global chip shortage.

The company has also announced that they are working on the missing features in the S1 scooters like cruise control, hill hold, navigation and they will be added to the e-scooters till July 2022 via an OTA software update.

Ola Electric S1 and S1 Pro scooters started shipping in December 2021. Since then, the e-scooters have faced numerous performance, quality, and software complaints. The one complaint that stands out is the missing features that the company had promised earlier. Now, OLA Electric‘s Chief Marketing Officer has provided some updates on the situation.

Ola Electric’s S1 Pro scooters are currently shipping without functional key features like cruise control, Hyper mode, hill-hold assist, and the navigation feature which is common in both S1 and S1 Pro models.

Varun Dubey, Chief Marketing Officer at Ola Electric, recently said during an interview that “features like cruise control, hill hold, navigation, etc. are coming up in the next few months by June. That is what we are going to deliver and it is not just about those features. As consumers continue to use the scooter and live with the scooter, we will learn and we will keep adding more and more features which consumers will continue to get.”

He added, “For us, the scooter is as much of a software platform as it is a hardware platform and even in September when we had opened up the windows and done the media test rides, we had explained it clearly that the software is going to come in stages and we are going to release these as important software updates over several months in 2022.”

So it appears that Ola Electric scooter customers might have to potentially wait for months before the software update that makes these key features functional finally arrives.

Additionally, the executive also answered the range discrepancy complaints by the S1 Pro customers stating that the scooter has an ARAI certified range of 181 Kms which is measured for ideal conditions.

Dubey clarified that the real-world range of the S1 Pro electric scooter is 135 km. The Ola Electric rep also claimed that they have shared the true range of the scooters with their customers.

In December, Ola Electric started the delivery process of their much-anticipated S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters in India, which was delayed from their initial delivery schedule of November 30th due to chip shortages.

Now, Ola Electric seems to be upscaling production of the S1 scooters as the company’s CEO Bhavesh Aggarwal states that the factory is now churning out 1,000 units per day. The news comes with another announcement by the CEO confirming that Ola Electric will soon be opening the purchase window for remaining customers.

The company has claimed to have delivered nearly 4,000 S1 e-scooters to its customers since the delivery process commenced back on December 15, 2021.

The company claims that the Ola S1 can offer a range of 121 kilometers while the Pro model’s range is rated at 181 kilometers. Ola provides a portable 750W charger and is also setting up its ‘Hypercharger’ network across the country, allowing users to regain about 75 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes.

The Ola S1 has a starting price of ₹99,999 (~$1,348) while the pricing of the upgraded Ola S1 Pro starts at ₹1,29,999 (~$1,753). The bookings started on September 15 2021 and the company announced it had done sales worth ₹600 crores on the first day, reaching ₹1,100 crores on the second day.

Ola Electric is offering upgrades to the buyers of its standard S1 electric scooter for free. So, if you bought an S1 in India, you are eligible for an upgrade to the top end, S1 Pro model, but with “terms and conditions applied.”

For those unaware, Ola is a ride hailing service based Indian company that is quite popular in its home market. Recently, it had announced that it was entering the electric vehicle market, with its S1 electric scooters. While the company saw great response to its new vehicles and a number of orders, many early buyers began complaining after receiving the first deliveries of the S1 scooters. We had reported on customers complaining about multiple quality related issues and more.

So now, it seems that the brand is offering upgrades to its customers for free. However, it isn’t without a ‘catch’. Those that receive an S1 Pro through the upgrade will not only receive the hardware benefits. In other words, the model’s software features will be locked and standard S1 buyers will have to shell out an additional 30,000 INR (roughly 404 US Dollars) to gain access to them. In a statement, the company stated that “Customers get access to the best in class hardware at the same price as the Ola S1. In the future, if you’d like to unlock the amazing software features, range, and the full potential of the Ola S1 Pro, you can do so by paying 30,000 INR.“

From the outside, both S1 models appear identical, but the Pro variant offers a larger 3.97 kWh battery compared to the base variant’s 2.98 kWh battery. Other features include ‘Hyper mode’ that is skipped on the standard model. The S1 costs 100,000 INR (roughly 1,350 US Dollars) while the S1 Pro costs 130,000 INR (roughly 1,750 US Dollars). Notably, Ola had stated before that its bookings for the Pro model were higher than the base one, thanks to these additional features. So the free upgrade might help turn over the opinion of the early buyers who can choose to opt for the software features later on.

The first batch of deliveries were scheduled for November 30 but the company has now decided to delay electric scooters to between December 15 to the end of the month, a two- to four-week delay from its earlier schedule.

The company has said that the delay is happening because of the shortage of chips and electronic parts. It is being reported that the company has stopped taking any new bookings until the chip shortage has eased.

In an email to customers, Ola Electic said: “Due to the ongoing global shortage of chipsets and electronic parts, there are some unavoidable delays to your Ola S1 delivery. We apologize for this delay and assure you that we are ramping up production as fast as we can so you can get your Ola S1 at the earliest.”

Ola Electric has launched its much-awaited electric two-wheeler scooter on the Indian market. The Ola S1 has a starting price of ₹99,999 (~$1,348) while the pricing of the upgraded Ola S1 Pro starts at ₹1,29,999 (~$1,753).

The firm says that the e-scooters are designed and engineered in India for the world and will deliver the best scooter experience to the consumer. The deliveries of the newly launched scooter will begin in October.

As for the features, there’s a 7-inch touchscreen shatter-proof display. It comes powered by an octa-Core processor with 3GB of RAM. Features on the device include geo-fencing, anti-theft alert, Bluetooth connectivity, GPS and Wi-Fi, four ‘moods’ for the sound, a reverse mode, and in-built speakers. The S1 Pro additionally comes with cruise control, hill hold assist, and onboard navigation.

There’s a mono-shock absorber on the front, disk brakes on the front as well as the back, and extra-wide 110/70-R12 MRF tires. The scooter is keyless and uses proximity unlock that senses when you move near it and locks when you move away. It can also be locked or unlocked using the screen on the scooter or through the mobile application.

The Ola Electric app also offers battery and health alerts, and book an appointment from the app for in-home service. The company has also built a new operating system for the vehicle named Ola MoveOS. It is powered by a ‘Hyperdrive motor’, which produces a peak power output of 8.5kW. The S1 is said to have a top speed of 90 Km/hr while the Ola S1 Pro will have a top speed of 115 Km/hr and can go from 0 to 40km/hr speed in 3.6 sec and 3 sec respectively.

The Ola S1 is based on the Etergo Appscooter and thus features the same banana-shaped batteries and the only difference is that the battery on Ola’s vehicles is fixed and is non-removable. The S1 packs a 2.98 kWh battery while the Pro model packs a 3.97 kWh battery – the biggest battery yet on a production electric two-wheeler in India.
