OnePlus recently released the stable Android 12 update with OxygenOS 12 for the Nord series. Now the company is rolling out a new update for the OnePlus 9 series. The update carries some multitasking and gaming enhancements. It is version C.60 update and comes packed in 1.5 GB of data, so, do use Wi-Fi if your carrier deal isn’t data-heavy.

The news of the update was first reported by some users on the OnePlus forum. According to the screenshots shared by them, the update brings improvements to the floating window feature and also adds HyperBoost end-to-end frame rate stabilizer. Moreover, it will also reduce gaming loads and power consumption. Notably, the fresh update doesn’t come with the Android security patches for May 2022.

The update is currently available for only a few users. OnePlus will be rolling out the update in a phased manner, so it will be available to all the users in a few weeks.

To recall, the OnePlus 9 was released last year at a starting price of $439. The smartphone came with a Snapdragon 888 SoC and Fluid AMOLED display. Whereas, the OnePlus 9 Pro was launched at a base price of $639 with LTPO Fluid AMOLED display and the same Snapdragon 888 processor.

India is a vital market for OnePlus and the company proved that recently with the OnePlus 7T making its first debut there in India. The company has announced five new India-centric features that would find its way into the custom ROM soon. The features include Smart SMS, Cricket Scores, International Roaming, Work-Life Balance, and an Improved Gallery with free cloud storage.

This was revealed on the OnePlus forum with the mod hinting that the features have been in the works for the past 11 months. The features were developed at OnePlus’ R&D centre in Hyderabad, India. While we wait for details of when it will roll out, here are some details of the features.

Smart SMS

This feature automatically categorize all messages and perform quick actions, like copying OTP codes or calling delivery boys. You’ll agree text messages like OTPs, transactional, promotional and spam can be disruptive sometimes and even annoying. The feature offers up to 39 categories for messages such as tickets, bills, bank messages, accessing your important messages will be much faster.

Cricket Scores

Cricket is one of the most popular sports in India with huge followership. OnePlus is giving fans the change to get updated on scores from cricket matches and tournaments in real-time. You also get to find out about upcoming fixtures.

Szymon Kopec, more popularly known as the Product Lead at OnePlus, has revealed a bunch of new features coming soon to Indian OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T devices. While new features being added through software updates is nothing new, this case is slightly different. These features were all developed in-house at OnePlus’ R&D center in Hyderabad, and are tailor-crafted for the Indian market.

The new features are Work-life Balance, a Smart SMS app, Caller Identification, OnePlus Roaming, and Cricket Scores. These names thankfully aren’t finalized and are subject to change before launch. The India-specific features will be rolling out to OnePlus 6 and 6T devices in the Open Beta build of OxygenOS at the end of June.

Caller Identification

First up, we’ve got Caller Identification. This feature will be rolled into the dialer, and it will help the user to identify unknown callers before picking up. The feature smartly recognizes and labels both spam and legitimate business calls as you’d expect. On top of this, it also allows the user to tag unknown numbers as Spam, Real Estate Agent, Courier/Deliver, etc themselves.

Smart SMS

Next, we have the Smart SMS app. How we understand it, the app will identify different types of service SMSes, be it bills, banking, transport, etc. It will then categorize them and display the relevant information accordingly. For example, an SMS from a courier will have the ETA for the arrival and contextual buttons to track your package. OnePlus claims the app can identify 39 different types of service messages, impressive!

Work-life Balance

Perhaps the most interesting feature in the lineup, Work-life Balance is essentially a time and lifestyle management app. It lets you record when you go to and leave from work, and accordingly lets you choose what notifications you see both the times. You can block social media notifications at work, and hide work emails at home. You can categorize apps under ‘Work’ and ‘Life’, and see how much time you’ve spent on both via a bar chart.

OnePlus Roaming

OnePlus Roaming, on the other hand, seems decidedly simple. It’s similar to Oppo‘s ORoaming which offers you affordable data packs when you travel overseas. You get to keep your own SIM card and save money from buying a brand new one. This feature will be baked right into the settings under the ‘Wi-Fi & Internet’ options.

Cricket Scores

Last, of all, we’ve got Cricket Scores which is pretty self-explanatory. Working with ESPNCricinfo, your OnePlus device will showcase current big cricket matches, as well as provide live score updates for them. Cricket Scores will be accessible straight from the Shelf, which is the OnePlus equivalent of the Google Now screen.

We haven’t been given a solid release date for these features, though we know we’re going to see them in the Open Beta builds of OxygenOS in June. We can expect to see these features roll out to the OnePlus 7 Pro soon enough as well, though the OnePlus 6 and 6T take higher priority for now. We’re looking forward to seeing how the features work, as well as what else OnePlus has in store.

OnePlus has announced that it is cancelling the roll out of the Oxygen OS 5.0 update, which brings the Android Oreo to the phone. The company is citing bug-related issues for taking such step.

However, the China-based company said that it is now preparing to roll out the new Oxygen OS 5.0.1 update and the partial release of the same will go live soon. But the company has not yet provided any specific timeline regarding the roll out of this new Oxygen OS 5.0.1 update.

The company has also not revealed the exact reason behind the decision to cancel the roll out of the Android Oreo update for OnePlus 5. After two open beta releases, OnePlus 5 had finally started receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.0 update last month.

The update also included the Face Unlock feature, which was introduced by the company in its latest flagship device OnePlus 5T. It also featured an upgraded launcher with support for shelf optimisations. The Camera application was also improved with new UI design and optimisations for photography.

The update had also listed some other features addition such as parallel apps, new design for the quick settings, new design for the Lift up display, battery optimisation, among others.

The OnePlus 3 and 3T are the first devices from the company to have received the latest OxygenOS 5.0.1 update. It comes with the latest December Android security patch, along with the support for aptX HD, new Wi-Fi hotspot manager, new adaptive mode screen calibration, and bug fixes.

OnePlus has two operating systems for its phones: there is Oxygen OS for the international variants, and for the domestic variant you have Hydrogen OS. While owners of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T running Oxygen OS have already received the Android Nougat update (Oxygen OS 4.0.3) for close to two months now, those on Hydrogen OS are just getting the Nougat treatment in form of Hydrogen OS 3.0.

Although, Hydrogen OS is built for users in China, it is also available in English. Like most Chinese forks of Android, you can sideload Google Services after flashing it on your phone and unwanted Chinese apps can be uninstalled. Some users say Hydrogen OS has a better battery life than Oxygen OS and there is also call recording. There is even a poll on the OnePlus forum to determine the better one.

Almost a year after it’s release, OnePlus is breathing new life into the OnePlus X by announcing the release of Oxygen 3.1 Community Build which brings Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the smallest OnePlus phone.

While it may be a little late in coming as Google officially released Android 7.0 Nougat yesterday, the announcement might spur some folks who don’t want something big to pick up the device.

OnePlus community builds are similar to beta releases before the final and official release. As with all beta releases, there are always issues that haven’t been ironed out. OnePlus says users may experience issues like network stability in select regions, third party apps compatibility, and language localisation.

OS 3.1 will bring new features like new icon packs, a new wallpaper picker, new customisation for the alert slider, and changes to Shelf UX, apart from the default marshmallow ones. It will also come with new apps (OnePlus Music and OnePlus Gallery) and August’s security patch.

Hydrogen OS 2.5 for OnePlus 3

The OnePlus X isn’t the only phone that will be getting a new update. A Canadian official has announced the upcoming release of Hydrogen OS 2.5 for the OnePlus 3.

If you remember, back when the OnePlus One was released, the company announced that there will be two operating systems for the phone. Hydrogen OS for the Chinese variant and Oxygen OS for the international version.

The new OS is expected to bring in a ton of features and design changes. While some have expected OnePlus to merge both operating systems, this announcement doesn’t seem like they have any plans to do so.

OnePlus has just informed its users that the company is rolling out its first OTA update, namely Oxygen v2.0.1 for the OnePlus 2 today. The update will come with a lot of improvements and bug fixes, however one of the highlights will be the patch for the Stagefright security exploit.

• Improves user interface logic and coherence

One thing to note is that the update is going to be big, around 1.1GB. The servers are still quite slow which means you might have to wait for a while to completely download and install the Oxygen v2.0.1 update on your OnePlus 2.
