<p>Meanwhile, the tablet shipments climbed to 8.7 million units, which is a 19% increase over the same period last year.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="695" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-1024x695.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-642727" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-1024x695.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-300x203.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-768x521.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-1536x1042.webp 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-2048x1389.webp 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-696x472.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-1068x724.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-1920x1302.webp 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/huawei-matebook-gt-14-highlight-01-2x-619x420.webp 619w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>According to the report, the Chinese government’s subsidy program appears to be doing most of the heavy lifting. The incentives have been pushing consumers to upgrade older devices, especially notebooks, which saw a 20% jump compared to Q1 2024.</p>

<p>However, not all segments are sharing in the optimism. The commercial PC market showed less momentum. Canalys&#8217; report shows purchases from large enterprises remained flat, while the SMB (small and medium-sized business) sector did show some signs of recovery after nearly three years of decline, growing 2% over the year.</p>

<h2><strong>Lenovo secures the top spot</strong></h2>

<p>Among PC vendors, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/lenovo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lenovo</a> maintained its lead with 2.63 million units shipped and a 30% market share. However, this is still a 3% decline compared to Q1 2024. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei </a>followed with 1.04 million units (12% share), posting 8% growth. </p>

<p>iSoftStone, another Chinese company that also manufactures and sells PCs, shipped 890,000 units in Q1, 2025. It’s a massive 111% increment year-over-year, bringing its market share to 10%. </p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/hp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">HP</a> rounded out the top five, with Apple growing 43% to 680,000 units (8% share), while HP declined 7% to 640,000 units (7% share).</p>

<p>In the tablet segment, Huawei led with 2.3 million units shipped (26% market share), closely followed by Apple with 2.1 million units (24%). Xiaomi reported the highest year-over-year growth at 57%, shipping 1.4 million units. Honor and Lenovo trailed, with Honor up 41% to 900,000 units, and Lenovo falling 23% to 500,000 units.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-692696" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Tablets-shipment-china-q1-2025-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Looking ahead, Canalys forecasts a flat PC market for the rest of 2025, with slight 6% growth expected in 2026. The tablet market is projected to expand 5% this year, followed by an 8% contraction next year. </p>

<p>Just a few years ago, the Covid-19 pandemic changed the world. People stayed home to avoid getting sick, and many countries had lockdowns. With more time at home for work, school, and boredom, people bought a lot of electronics like smartphones, game consoles, and computers. Companies couldn&#8217;t even make enough to keep up. But as the pandemic got better and life returned to normal, electronics sales slowed down. The computer market especially saw a drop. Luckily, this slowdown looks temporary, with the PC market in China and India expected to grow in 2024. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>India &amp; China Lead PC Market Growth in 2024</strong></h2>

<p>The PC market in both China and India is poised for significant growth in the coming years, according to Canalys. The Chinese market is expected to see a rebound in 2024, with growth of 3%. This growth is projected to accelerate to 10% in 2025. This surge is primarily driven by commercial sector demand for PC upgrades. Meanwhile, China&#8217;s tablet market is also expected to experience steady growth of 4% in both 2024 and 2025, fueled by deepening digitalization initiatives.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-614098" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/china-and-india-pc-market-report-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Similarly, in India PC market, including desktops, notebooks, and tablets, is forecast for a robust 14% year-on-year increase in 2024. All segments are expected to contribute to this growth, with tablets leading the charge at an impressive 24% year-on-year rise. Notably, despite the projected overall growth, Q4 2023 shipments saw desktops lead with a 27% increase, followed by notebooks at 3%. Interestingly, tablets in India experienced a 9% decline in shipments during the same period.</p>

<p>The rise of AI-powered PCs and locally manufactured devices are key trends driving this growth in India and China. Different companies will benefit from PC market growth in India and China. In India, Samsung is the biggest winner with 26%, followed by Lenovo (14.8%) and Apple (13.3%). <p>The global PC market is seeing a double-digit dip but still remains resilient overall. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lenovo </a>has managed to retain its lead in the segment in terms of shipments, while other brands like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple </a>took a hit. </p>

<h2>Lenovo PC Shipments hold out amid a declining market</h2>

<p>According to a <em><a href="https://www.counterpointresearch.com/global-pc-shipment-q2-2023-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Counterpoint Research</a></em> report, the global PC market saw a decline of 15 percent year on year in Q2 2023, although this period saw a bump in shipments over the previous quarter. During this time, Lenovo managed to retain its throne despite seeing an 18 percent year on year hit in shipments. Meanwhile, HP came in second and Dell took the third spot, with 13.3 million and 10.2 million PC shipments. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1.png?x44794" alt="Lenovo PC Shipments" class="wp-image-552548" width="641" height="456" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1.png 865w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-300x213.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-768x546.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-696x495.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-591x420.png 591w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Worldwide-PC-shipments-in-million-1-100x70.png 100w" sizes="(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px" /></figure></div>

<p>Interestingly, Apple is the only brand in the top 5 list that saw growth in the second quarter of this year. Its PC shipments rose by 8 percent, hitting 5.5 million units. The Cupertino based giant took the fourth spot, just ahead of Acer. The report pointed at the lack of &#8220;solid growth drivers&#8221; as one of the factors that led to the market&#8217;s slope.</p>

<p>Furthermore, it appears that global PC shipments are finally returning to a level before the Coronavirus pandemic boom. In the second half of this year, the market will see a slight rise, but shipments are expected to decline year on year in the coming quarters as well. </p>

<p>Huawei is one of the most unfortunate tech companies in recent years. It was once a global leader in the smartphone market, but it has been struggling since the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/11/28/china-maintains-leadership-in-6g-race-against-usa/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">US-China trade war began</a>. In an effort to recover, Huawei has been expanding into new sectors, including computers. The company&#8217;s efforts seem to be paying off. In the first quarter of 2023, Huawei&#8217;s PC shipments surged by 34.1% year-on-year. This helped the company re-enter the top three of China PC market. However, the tech giant says that it&#8217;s only a matter of time before Huawei claims the top spot. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Dell&#8217;s shipments plummeted by 50%, Huawei&#8217;s share rose to second in China&#8217;s PC market</strong></h2>

<p>Huawei has re-entered the top three of China&#8217;s PC market, with shipments surging by 34.1% year on year in the first quarter of 2023. The company&#8217;s Vice President of Consumer Business Group&#8217;s Strategic Marketing, Li Changzhu, says that it&#8217;s only a matter of time before Huawei claims the top spot.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/huawei-dell-china-pc-market-q1-2023-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="dell logo and Huawei laptop" class="wp-image-541234" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/huawei-dell-china-pc-market-q1-2023-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/huawei-dell-china-pc-market-q1-2023-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/huawei-dell-china-pc-market-q1-2023-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/huawei-dell-china-pc-market-q1-2023-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/huawei-dell-china-pc-market-q1-2023-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/huawei-dell-china-pc-market-q1-2023-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/huawei-dell-china-pc-market-q1-2023.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>According to the latest reports, Lenovo and HP remained steady in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2012/09/13/motorola-hmc3260-is-the-android-cloud-based-pc-for-chinese-market/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chinese PC market</a>, with market shares of 24.2% and 22.1%, respectively. However, Dell, which declared a plan to &#8220;decouple from China&#8221; in its supply chain, experienced a &#8220;halved&#8221; drop in shipments, falling out of the top three. The market share that Dell lost was seemingly &#8220;swept up&#8221; by Huawei.</p>

<p>Huawei&#8217;s approach to the PC and tablet market is somewhat distinctive from traditional PC manufacturers. The company is primarily concentrating on the integration of intelligent ecosystems as a novel area for innovation. Their products are designed with specific audiences in mind, such as office environments, student demographics, and existing customers of Huawei&#8217;s phones and tablets. I can vouch for this as a former user of a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-matebook-x-pro-intel-core-i7-laptop/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MateBook X Pro</a>; the company&#8217;s premium products exceed their competition.</p>

<p>Since the beginning of 2022, the PC market has been shrinking for over a year. Despite Huawei&#8217;s continual growth against the trend, it is still inevitably affected by the industry&#8217;s overall downturn. Over the last three quarters starting from the third quarter of last year, Huawei&#8217;s growth rates in the Chinese PC market were 110%, 73%, and 34%, respectively, indicating that its growth is gradually slowing. However, according to current trends, it&#8217;s expected that there will be some demand for device replacement starting in 2024, which could stimulate growth in the entire market.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mini-PC/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The mini PC marke</a>t continues to grow. These products, which attract attention especially with their compactness, can save lives in tight spaces and situations that require travel. Lastly, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Morefine/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Morefine</a> introduced its $199 mini PC model called the M9. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Morefine M9 mini PC on sale starting at $199</strong></h2>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/11/18/morefine-m600-mini-pc-with-amd-ryzen-socs-thunderbolt-3-more-launched-in-multiple-configurations/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Morefine M9</a> is a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mini-PC/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mini PC</a> that packs a powerful punch in a small package. Equipped with the latest Intel Alder Lake-N processor, the M9 is designed for those looking for a compact and budget-friendly option for their computing needs. M9 can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and two SSDs, making it a versatile option for users who need a little extra power. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-1-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="morefine m9 mini pc" class="wp-image-511473" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-1-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-1-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-1-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-1.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>At the heart of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Morefine/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">M9</a> is the Intel Processor N100, which is based on the Alder Lake-N architecture. The N100 has a base frequency of 3.4 GHz and Intel UHD graphics with 24 execution units, which should provide a significant performance boost over previous-gen chips. </p>

<p>While the M9 is a budget-friendly option, it&#8217;s important to keep in mind that it&#8217;s not designed for resource-intensive applications like video editing or AAA gaming. However, for everyday tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and media playback, the M9 should perform admirably.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="800" height="762" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-2.jpg.webp?x44794" alt="morefine m9 mini pc" class="wp-image-511474" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-2.jpg.webp 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-2.jpg-300x286.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-2.jpg-768x732.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-2.jpg-696x663.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/morefine-m9-mini-pc-specs-price-2.jpg-441x420.webp 441w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure></div>

<p>In terms of physical design, the M9 measures 113 x 106 x 42mm and weighs 240 grams, making it small and lightweight. Under the hood, it features an M.2 2280 slot for PCIe 3.0 NVMe storage, an M.2 2242 slot for SATA storage, and support for up to 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory. Additionally, the M9 has a fan, heat sink, and wireless card with support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. M9 can be purchased now for $199 for the barebone model and up to $403.51 with 32GB RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/laptop/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The notebook computer market</a> is facing an uncertain future due to various major events affecting the global economy. According to a recent analysis by TrendForce, global notebook shipments are expected to decline year-on-year in both 2022 and 2023. Meanwhile, US brands are adjusting their supply chain strategies, with Vietnam becoming an increasingly popular choice for the relocation of equipment production. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h3><strong>Notebook Computer Shipments for 1Q23 Are Projected Reach 10-Year Low</strong></h3>

<p>According to the latest reports, global notebook shipments will reach approximately 186 million units in 2022, a year-on-year decline of 24.5%. The outlook for the performance of the notebook computer market in 2023 remains uncertain, and total shipments are expected to Only 171 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 7.8%. This decline can be attributed to various major events affecting the global economy and politics, resulting in a sharp decline in the demand for consumer electronics.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/global-notebook-computer-market-records-lowest-shipments-in-a-decade-1-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="Notebook computer" class="wp-image-509271" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/global-notebook-computer-market-records-lowest-shipments-in-a-decade-1-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/global-notebook-computer-market-records-lowest-shipments-in-a-decade-1-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/global-notebook-computer-market-records-lowest-shipments-in-a-decade-1-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/global-notebook-computer-market-records-lowest-shipments-in-a-decade-1-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/global-notebook-computer-market-records-lowest-shipments-in-a-decade-1-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/global-notebook-computer-market-records-lowest-shipments-in-a-decade-1-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/global-notebook-computer-market-records-lowest-shipments-in-a-decade-1.webp 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Another concern is that the Lunar New Year holiday in 2023 will come earlier than usual, and notebook brands worry that the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in China will become a huge market variable after the holiday. In addition, there are concerns that equipment shipments will affected by component shortages caused by another round of the pandemic. As a result, global notebook PC shipments are expected to decline 9.5% quarter-on-quarter to 35.1 million units in the first quarter of 2023, which is the lowest level in 10 years for first-quarter results.</p>

<p>The U.S.-China trade dispute has led to heightened geopolitical tensions and prompted major electronics brands to adjust their supply chain strategies. Of these, US brands have been the most active in shifting equipment production and finding alternative sources Component supply. Vietnam has become a popular choice for relocation because of its geographic and demographic advantages, including a relatively young and low-cost workforce. Compal Wistron, Foxconn and other ODM manufacturers have started to build notebook assembly lines in Vietnam to cope with Request from a US customer. In addition, a US laptop brand set a target to increase its share of device shipments from Vietnam to 20% by 2023, while reducing its share of device shipments from China to 20~30% by 2027.</p>

<p>During the holiday season, PC shipments had their largest-ever decrease, with sales statistics coming to show the full impact of the loss. According to IDC, PC shipments decreased by 28%, while Gartner estimated a 28.5% decrease and Canalys a 29% decrease. Since the 1990s, Gartner has been keeping tabs on the computer industry, and this represents the worst quarterly decline they have ever seen.</p>

<p>Several reasons may have contributed to the fall in PC shipments. The need for remote working tools has declined as more individuals return to work. The rise in PC sales during the epidemic is mainly attributed to the remote working trend. Employees are no longer obliged to work from home as regularly as they formerly were as more businesses adopt hybrid working methods. This has resulted in a decline in the demand for PCs.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-508361" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-2.webp 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>A weakening global economy has also given many people less money to invest in renovations. Leading manufacturers have suffered double-digit losses, with Dell and Acer suffering the worst losses, with shipments falling by 37% and 41%, respectively. Lenovo and HP had huge drops of 29% and 28%, respectively. Retailers and distributors have also been impacted by the fall in PC shipments in addition to PC makers. Due to the reduction in sales, several of them have seen a decline in their revenues and earnings. Additionally, this has caused a drop in the value of their shares.</p>

<p>Analysts are cautiously hopeful about the future of the PC industry despite the drop. Canalys and IDC have forecast a resurgence for the latter half of 2023 or 2024. According to them, postponed purchases would start boosting the market in late 2023, with momentum building in 2024 after firms and consumers have weathered the storm. People will start spending more on upgrades as the global economy strengthens, which will enhance PC sales.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-508362" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-300x150.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-768x384.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-696x348.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/pc-shipments-experience-sharp-decline-in-the-holiday-season-840x420.webp 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>However, according to Gartner researcher Mikako Kitagawa, the slump may last until the start of 2024. She believes that the market might not bounce back as rapidly as some think. She believes that it may take some time for the market to fully recover and that it could be a slow process.</p>

<p>The fact that shipments in 2022 are still &#8220;far above&#8221; pre-pandemic levels should be noted. However, as neither Gartner nor IDC anticipate a market recovery before 2024, PC manufacturers may need to consider new models and price reductions to remain competitive. Although the PC industry may now be struggling, with the anticipated recovery, PC producers may look forward to brighter times in the future. They have to concentrate on developing fresh items that address the shifting demands of their clients.</p>

<p>In conclusion, while there was a noticeable decrease in PC shipments over the holiday season, there is no need for concern. Manufacturers and retailers should concentrate on adjusting to the shifting market conditions because it is anticipated that the market will revive in the upcoming years. They can weather the storm and come out on the other side stronger if they have the right plans in place.</p>

<p>The Indian <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/11/17/mediatek-windows-on-arm-plans/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PC market</a>, including desktops, notebooks, and tablets, saw a downturn in the third quarter of 2022, with shipments falling 4% year on year to 5.1 million units. According to research firm Canalys, notebook shipments were the main contributor to the overall market decline, falling sharply by 21%. However, desktop and tablet shipments saw significant annual growth, with 36% and 24% increases to 766,000 units and 1.5 million units respectively.</p>

<h3><strong>Weak Demand from Commercial and Consumer Sectors Affects Indian PC Market</strong></h3>

<p>One bright spot for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/08/20/pc-market-in-india-records17-8-percent-growth-in-q2-2022-hp-led-the-charts/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Indian PC market</a> was the education sector, which saw a surge in shipments due to the release of public sector tenders that had been postponed in the previous two years. This led to a 181% increase in shipments across all product categories in the third quarter. The segment is expected to continue to be a strong performer, particularly for tablets, which are a key part of India&#8217;s digital education expansion strategy.</p>

<p>On the commercial side, however, demand for PCs was weaker due to businesses reprioritizing IT spending in the face of an uncertain economic climate. Shipments to the commercial segment fell 11% compared to the same period in the previous year, as both enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses saw weaker demand due to inflation and interest rate hikes by the Reserve Bank of India.</p>

<p>On the consumer side, demand for PCs was also relatively weak during the festive season, with household spending declining significantly after a surge in the second quarter. Despite promotional activity by vendors and retailers, consumer shipments fell 12% year on year as inventory clearance remained an issue. </p>

<p>The return to in-person education also reduced the need for devices to support remote learning, leading to sluggish consumer demand that is expected to continue into the beginning of 2023. The weakening rupee is also putting additional upward pressure on prices. In terms of market share, HP was the top vendor in the third quarter of 2022, with 26.5% of shipments, followed by Lenovo with 23.6% and Dell with 12.8%. Acer and Asus also had significant market share, with 12.7% and 10.7% respectively.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://canalys.com/newsroom/pc-sales-in-india-q3-2021" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Canalys</em> </a>report, the overall shipments for PC surged by a notable 34 percent, hitting record 5.3 million in Q3 2021. Out of this entire sum, only 0.6 million were desktops, while the majority shipments were for notebooks that reached 3.5 million. On the other hand, the remainder 1.2 million shipments were for tablets in the period between July and September. With the overall market seeing a rise, notebook shipments also grew by 31 percent year on year.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, tablets and desktops saw a surge of 41 percent and 29 percent respectively during this same period. The report further added that the growth was aided by the acceleration of economic recovery in the country, especially among <span lang="EN-US" xml:lang="EN-US" data-contrast="auto">small to medium businesses and even larger firms as well. Canalys Research Analyst Ashweej Aithal stated that &#8220;Despite supply chain challenges, India’s PC market reported its highest shipments ever.&#8221;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Recently, Canalys </span><a href="https://canalys.com/newsroom/china-PC-market-Q3-2021"><span style="font-weight: 400">released</span></a> <a href="https://canalys.com/newsroom/US-PC-market-Q3-2021"><span style="font-weight: 400">reports</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> on China and US PC markets for Q3 2021. According to them, the former grew by 3% YoY with more than 15 million units in shipments, while the latter shrunk by a 16% YoY with shipments of 30.3 million units.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">China set a Q3 record, whereas the US fell for the first time after multiple quarters with double-digit growth. However, the shipments in both markets are still more than the pre-pandemic level.</span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Canalys/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Canalys</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> points out that the decline in the United States is due to the sharp drop of shipments in the education and consumer segments as they have now reached the point of saturation. Only desktops went up by 6% as people have started moving to work/education premises. Hence, notebooks (especially </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Chromebook/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Chromebooks</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">) and tablets decreased by 15% and 24% respectively.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">On the other hand, in China, the desktop and notebook segments increased by 3.9% and 1.8% respectively. This helped the market to beat Q3 2020’s record of 14.7 million units of overall shipments.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">As far as brands are concerned, Dell led the US PC market, followed by HP, Lenovo, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Apple/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Apple</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, and Acer. <p>According to an <a href="https://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prAP48156621" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>IDC </em></a>report, the India traditional PC market shipped a total of 3.2 million units in Q2 2021. During this time, all products within the category saw a robust double digit growth rate. Furthermore, this report arrives despite a lack of large education and government deals in the region, which also marked the second consecutive quarter in which India&#8217;s shipments crossed the 3 million mark. This is also indicative of the underlying growth in the enterprise and consumer sectors.</p>
<p>In this category, the notebooks segment still accounts for more than three quarters of the entire market&#8217;s total shipments. Notebook PCs saw a growth of 49.9 percent year on year in the second quarter of 2021. This period also marked the fourth consecutive quarter that registered shipments crossing 2 million units. Similarly, desktop PCs also saw recovery, with shipments rising by 52.3 percent year on year after recording lowest shipments in the decade back in Q2 of last year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-363775 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420.jpg?x44794" alt="India" width="1200" height="667" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-300x167.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-768x427.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-1024x569.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-696x387.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-1068x594.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Dell-Latitude-9420-756x420.jpg 756w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>The report adds that the second wave of Coronavirus had delayed the opening of schools, colleges, and other education based institutions, which in turn, strengthened the demand for PCs for home learning/online education. Back in Q1 2021, the consumer segment alone saw a whopping 118.4 percent growth year on year and 5.9 percent sequentially. Brands were also quick to prepare channels in anticipation for stronger demands. During this time, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hp/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HP</a> lead the market, while <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/dell/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Dell</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lenovo</a> arrived second and third. While <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/acer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Acer</a> took the fourth spot, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/asus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ASUS</a> were tied for the fifth position.</p>

This growth momentum has carried forward into 2021, with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lenovo</a> leading the PC market in terms of shipments in the second quarter of this year.</p>
<p>According to an <a href="https://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS48069721" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>IDC</em> </a>report, worldwide shipments of PCs, including desktops, notebooks, and workstations, reached 83.6 million units in Q2 2021. This marks a notable 13.2 percent growth from the same period last year. The report adds that the elevated demand for PCs at the moment paired with the ongoing semiconductor shortage has also impacted the supply of notebooks. This, in turn, led to desktop PCs seeing a growth, which overtook laptops during this quarter.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-399044 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/lenovo-duet-7i-3.png?x44794" alt="Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i" width="842" height="554" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/lenovo-duet-7i-3.png 842w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/lenovo-duet-7i-3-300x197.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/lenovo-duet-7i-3-768x505.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/lenovo-duet-7i-3-696x458.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/lenovo-duet-7i-3-638x420.png 638w" sizes="(max-width: 842px) 100vw, 842px" /></p>
<p>Jitesh Ubrani, a researcher at IDC stated that &#8220;The PC market&#8217;s hot streak continued to drive heavy investments from the supply side including the entry of new vendors as well as additional spend from underdogs. And while the top 5 continue to drive volume, the smaller vendors have helped drive growth by offering unique features or niche designs.&#8221; While the market did see a 13 percent annual growth rate, it is still far lower than the 55.9 percent growth back in Q1 2021 and 25.8 percent growth in Q4 2020.</p>
<p>Another IDC researcher Neha Mahajan added that &#8220;The market faces mixed signals as far as demand is concerned. With businesses opening back up, demand potential in the commercial segment appears promising. However, there are also early indicators of consumer demand slowing down as people shift spending priorities after nearly a year of aggressive PC buying.&#8221;</p>

<p>During Q2 2021, Lenovo led the PC market with a 23.9 percent market share, marking a 14.9 percent growth over the same period last year. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hp/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HP</a> arrived second in the list with a 22.2 percent market share, while <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/dell/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Dell</a> came third with a 16.7 percent market share. On the other hand, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/acer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Acer</a> both came in fourth with a 7.4 percent and 7.3 percent market share respectively, while other vendors accounted for the rest of the figure.</p>

As of 2020, about 1.66 million desktop and laptop computers were delivered to the nation, out of which over 80,000 units were shipped from the Chinese tech giant.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-358934 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065140_2017.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="813" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065140_2017.jpg 813w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065140_2017-300x148.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065140_2017-768x378.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065140_2017-324x160.jpg 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065140_2017-533x261.jpg 533w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20201127065140_2017-696x342.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 813px) 100vw, 813px" /></p>
<p>According to an <a href="https://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prEUR247464821" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>IDC</em> </a>report, the Russian PC market saw an overall decline of 3.3 percent year on year in 2020. Dmitry Ilyin, senior analyst at IDC stated that &#8220;<span>The share of consumer laptop models declined 1.5%, while consumer desktop models grew 18.0% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019. </span><span>These indicators correlate well with the increased demand of the population for gaming desktops, the growing popularity of all-in-one and the interest in small desktop PCs.</span><span>&#8220;</span></p>
<p>Furthermore, the IDC revealed the five leaders of the Russian personal computer market, which included <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hp/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HP</a> with an 18.3 percent market share, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lenovo</a> with 18 percent, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/acer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Acer</a> with 17.1 percent. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/asus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Asus</a> with 11.8 percent, an Huawei with 5.4 percent. The Chinese brand was also among the top five companies for the laptop segment. Dmitry further added that, &#8220;In the first quarter of 2021, the personal computer market is likely to see an increase in shipments year-on-year due to logistics problems and incomplete shipment of orders in the third and fourth quarters of 2020.&#8221;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-337737 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/s_504fdd44ff6c4a10839306bf1960b417.png?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="600" height="397" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/s_504fdd44ff6c4a10839306bf1960b417.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/s_504fdd44ff6c4a10839306bf1960b417-300x199.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, Huawei is a major brand in the telecom and smartphone industries. Although it is also known to make laptops and, more recently, desktop PCs as well for enterprises and businesses. At the moment, the company is focusing more on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/04/huawei-cloud-services-us-sanctions-hamper-smartphone/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">expanding its presence in the cloud computing services market</a> and other segments as its smartphone business has been impacted by the US sanctions.</p>

<p>The report shows that desktop PCs were the most affected product category which registered a 46.4% decline. However, due to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/covid-19">COVID-19</a> pandemic and the following country-wide lockdown in India, there was a rise in demand for notebooks because businesses started adopting work from home model.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-336625 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IDC-India-PC-Market-Share.jpeg?x44794" alt="IDC India PC Market Share Q2 2020" width="1800" height="942" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IDC-India-PC-Market-Share.jpeg 1800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IDC-India-PC-Market-Share-300x157.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IDC-India-PC-Market-Share-768x402.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IDC-India-PC-Market-Share-1024x536.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IDC-India-PC-Market-Share-696x364.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IDC-India-PC-Market-Share-1068x559.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IDC-India-PC-Market-Share-803x420.jpeg 803w" sizes="(max-width: 1800px) 100vw, 1800px" /></p>
<p>This led to an all-time high of enterprise <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/notebook">notebook</a> purchases with shipments growing by 105.5 percent YoY in the second quarter of this year. SMBs also increased their procurement of notebooks with relatively moderate growth of 12.1 percent YoY in 2Q20.</p>
<p>The decline in the overall market share seems like an unfavorable YoY comparison against Q2 2019 given that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo">Lenovo</a> executed a mega-deal of shipping 1.1 million units to Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT).</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK:</strong></span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/12/xiaomi-confirms-surge-chipset-development/"><strong> Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirms that the company has not given up on its self-developed Surge chipsets</strong></a></p>
<p>If we exclude that deal, then the PC market in India saw an annual decline of 6.3 percent in Q2 2020 while the notebooks grew 17.6 percent during the same time. The report adds that the overall consumer segment saw a YoY decline of 21 percent in 2Q20.</p>
<p>As for the companies, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hp">HP</a> took the pole position with a 32.8 percent market share, having shipped 692,000 units in Q2 2020. The second and third positions have been grabbed by Lenovo and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/dell">Dell</a> with 27.5 percent and 17.8 percent market share and 580,000 and 377,000 units shipments respectively.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/acer">Acer</a> Group is ranked fourth with 9.9 percent market share and 209,000 units shipments while ASUS stands fifth with shipments of 107,000 units and 5.1 percent market share. It&#8217;s noteworthy that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/asus">ASUS</a> is the only brand that registered 55.5 percent growth compared to Q2 2019 while all the other four brands saw a decline in market share.</p>

The company has sold its remaining 19.9 percent stake in Dynabook laptop brand to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/sharp">Sharp</a>.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s noteworthy that a couple of years ago, in 2018, the company had sold 80.1 percent of its PC business to Sharp for $36 million. Soon after that, Sharp renamed the business to Dynabook. It is being reported that Sharp exercised right to buy the remaining 19.1 percent stake in June and the deal was closed in August.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-336244 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Toshiba-Logo-Featured.jpg?x44794" alt="Toshiba Featured" width="1000" height="667" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Toshiba-Logo-Featured.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Toshiba-Logo-Featured-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Toshiba-Logo-Featured-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Toshiba-Logo-Featured-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Toshiba-Logo-Featured-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/toshiba">Toshiba</a> was a global player and a pioneer in the PC industry. The company was also among the first to introduce commercially available laptops in the 1980s. The company was thriving with its Satellite, Portégé, and Qosmio lines of laptops.</p>
<p>However, with the shrinking PC market share worldwide and misaligned focus on features, the company was finding it difficult to survive. The competition has also increased in the sector with the likes of HP and Dell ruling the market.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000">EDITOR&#8217;S PICK:</span> </strong><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/10/apple-removing-wechat-from-app-store-iphone-fall-by-30-in-china/"><strong>Apple removing WeChat from App Store may have iPhone shipments fall by 30% in China: Kuo</strong></a></p>
<p>Once among the leaders in the laptop market, Toshiba&#8217;s share of the PC market when it sold its stake to Sharp had gone down significantly. The company sold 17.7 million PCs in 2011 while in 2017, the numbers were down to just 1.4 million units.</p>
<p>According to the report from Garter, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hp">HP</a> is currently the leading PC maker in the U.S. with about 33 percent market share, followed by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/dell">Dell</a> having a market share of 26 percent. Globally, in Q2 2020, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo">Lenovo</a> took the lead with a 25 percent market share while HP stands second with a 24.9 percent market share.</p>
