We are looking at quite a compact phone due to its 5″ 720p display (covered with Gorilla Glass 3), which is actually very nice to look at. It is quite sharp, vivid and it is a decent HD panel overall.

We have a 5MP selfie camera and non-backlit capacitive buttons. However, there is no LED notification light.

The phone is made of plastic but it does not feel cheap at all. In fact, it sports a soft “baby skin” coating and it makes the phone feel very nice in the hand. Also, rounded edges help with the grip and thus the phone is very comfortable to hold.

The phone sports a 13MP camera with a single LED flash. Just below the camera we can find a fingerprint scanner. We found this security option to be fast, accurate and it works straight from the standby mode. However, the display could light up a little bit faster after the fingerprint has been recognized.

On the bottom there is a loudspeaker, which is pretty good but, as usual to budget phones, the sound could have more depth.

The backplate can be removed and underneath it you can find 2 SIM card slots and the microSD card slot for storage expansion. A 2800mAh non-removable battery powers up the device.

The buttons feel nice and they are tactile.

Vernee Thor Review: SPECS, PERFORMANCE, BENCHMARKS

Vernee Thor has some pretty good specs for the price. It sports an MTK6753 chip (1.3GHz,) 3GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

The phone handles 3D gaming very well. I was surprised that Asphalt 8 ran with no lag or stutter even on highest graphics (see a video review for gaming performance).

Vernee Thor is also a great performer on a daily use. Almost stock looking Android 6.0 based user interface does not have many features but it is very fast and responsive even after installing lots of apps.

Vernee Thor Review: CAMERA

The 13MP camera can take some good looking images in good light but since we are talking about $120 phone, they are not ideal. The main issue that I found is that the colors look a bit washed out in some of the shots.

When it comes to the low-light shots, they are not really impressive but this is what you have to expect from a phone at this price.

As for video, it could be less shaky and look a bit sharper. See a video review for a video sample.

A 5MP front camera does not impress. The pictures lack detail and sharpness but most importantly there are no wide-angle lens that we are used to.

I didn’t have any issues with this phone. Wifi, GPS and Bluetooth works fine and call quality is decent.

Speaking of the battery, it performs great. I could constantly get around 5 hours of screen-on time on a mixed use and if you need to re-charge it, a fast charger comes to help.

Vernee Thor Review: CONCLUSIONS

Vernee Thor is a pretty good offering for the price of $120. It has a decent design and build, the display is nice and the phone is a good performer both in terms of day-to-day use and gaming. Also, the device has a pretty good battery life.

However, the low-light camera performance is not impressive and a selfie camera is quite terrible.

Overall, the Vernee Thor is a decent phone for the price if you don’t mind a few shortcomings.

The new Chinese smartphone company, Vernee has just informed us that they are planning to set up overseas after sale service centers for its smartphones. The company’s first smartphone, the Vernee Thor was successful during the pre-sale period and it will soon start shipping devices to the customers. Now that the phones will start shipping out, the next logical step is a strong after sales support, which is something that many Chinese smartphone makers lack. This is why Vernee is planning to build a network of centers in important markets for its customers.

So, for now, the company will have service centers in six major countries, Russia, Spain, German ,UK, France and USA. The company hasn’t revealed any plans for setting up centers in other countries yet. In these regions, Vernee will be providing two-year warranty for its smartphones. But there’s a catch. The company reveals that for the first year, you will get free maintenance. In the second year, the maintenance will be paid. Still better than many other local Chinese companies. What’s more, these centers will reportedly be launched in May itself, so around the time you get your pre-ordered units.

At the back, the Thor will come with a 13MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture while up front, you get a 5MP Front facing sensor. We have been hearing a lot about the Vernee Thor smartphone, which will come with mid-range price at an affordable price of $129.99. Now, the company has announced that it will reduce the pre-order price of the Vernee Thor to $119.99. This is good news for users who were planning to purchase this mid-ranger as it is a good $10 OFF the earlier reported price.

The phone will go up for pre-order today, but we have not yet seen retailers list this device for sale for the above-mentioned price. Hopefully, the presale at this price will start soon.

Also, it is said that Uber users may get a chance to pre-order this smartphone at an even discounted price tag of $99.99. The company is yet to reveal details about how this will work, but expect more details soon.

Vernee’s two smartphones, namely the high-end Vernee Apollo with 6GB RAM and the mid-range Vernee Thor have been making the news recently. The second device, i.e. the Thor is confirmed to retail for an affordable price tag of $129.99 with MT6753 octa-core chip on board.

Now, Vernee has just revealed to us that the Thor has been FIDO certified, which opens up the possibility of fingerprint payments using the device. The FIDO (Fast Identity Online) Alliance was formed way back in 2012 to change the nature of authentication by developing a mechanism that was open and scalable, in order to potentially replace the need for passwords. Given that the Thor is now FIDO-enabled, the phone could be potentially used to make payments secured by its fingerprint sensor.

Apart from this, the Vernee Thor features pretty decent specs. The phone comes with the MT6753 octa-core chip with 3GB RAM and 16GB of eMMC  5.0 storage. There will be a 5-inch on cell display on board and a 2800mAh battery at the back with 5V 2A Quick Charging. As for the optics, the phone features a 13MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front-facing shooter.

All this inside a compact body with is coated with a special black rubber paint to improve grip. The company will officially release the device in April, which will be its first smartphone in 2016.

Apart from the Thor, there’s the Vernee Apollo that we are all excited for. The phone will reportedly feature the Helio X20 deca-core chip with a whopping 6GB of RAM on board. The Apollo is rumored to feature pretty exciting hardware and you will be able to purchase the phone for around $399.99, which is not at all a bad deal.

Vernee is marketing its mid-range Thor smartphone pretty aggressively. The company will release the phone sometime in April, which is just a few weeks away. Today, it released a new video comparing the $129.99 Vernee Thor with the iPhone 6S, claiming that its phone delivers a stellar display performance.

In this regard, Vernee released an on-screen comparison of the devices, as well as an off-screen comparison to show the performance of its upcoming handset.

You can check out the video below for the on-screen comparison between the Thor and the iPhone 6S. In the video, the phone does pretty well, coming with higher color saturation and warmer tones. The video tests different colors, dark and light shades, viewing angles and a number of other parameters.

Coming to the off-screen test, Vernee Thor is pitted against the iPhone 6S and the Moto X flagships. The company seems to have performed a thorough off screen analysis of the three phones, showing that the Vernee Thor does a good job in the comparison.

The Chinese company Vernee seems to be enjoying its fair share of spotlight, thanks to its two new models, namely the Vernee Apollo and the Vernee Thor. The former model is going to be the company’s high-end product, featuring 6GB of RAM and Helio X20 under the hood. As for the Vernee Thor, this particular phone will be a mid-range offering and will be announced in partnership with Uber.

The company is, in fact, calling the Thor as a Uber Featured smartphone, but we are still not clear what to expect from this kind of cooperation. Now, new images of the Vernee Thor have been released, which gives us a very good look at the phone’s design.

To be honest, for a $129.99 device, the phone’s design does look good. The market is flooded with plastic and even metal body smartphones at this price, so its good to see something different. The Vernee Thor will come with a baby skin rubber paint on the back, and in black color, the overall finish looks different. However, it remains to be seen whether the phone will feel good in our hands. Up front, the company has reportedly coated the screen with some kind of high-grade anti-fingerprint oil. You also get 2.5D glass on top of the display.

As for the specs, for $129.99, the Vernee Thor features mid-range hardware. The phone comes with a 5-inch HD on-cell display with 2.5D glass. Under the hood, it is powered by the octa-core MT6753 64-bit processor with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. There will be a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP shooter up front. Battery may be a bit small with 2800mAh capacity, but considering the small display and the fact that the phone supports fast charging at 5V 2A, it should be enough for a normal user.

Remember Vernee, the new kid in the market from Shenzen, China, who got quite the attention from the media because of its 6GB RAM smartphone, the Vernee Apollo?

Well, it looks like this high-tech company is not just working on its flagship product, the Apollo. The company is also working on a mid-range smartphone called as the Vernee Thor, and it’s going to be a unique device because it will be a Uber-featured smartphone.

According to the latest information, Vernee and Uber have reportedly entered into some kind of cooperation to release a brand new “Uber-featured” smartphone. Now, we are not entirely sure how Uber comes into this picture, but it is said that the phone will deliver smooth experience as fast as lightning (hence the name THOR) which is synonymous with Uber’s service and reliability.

As for the phone itself, the Vernee Thor will feature mid-range specs with software optimizations. The phone will feature a sleek, smooth and curved design with rubber paint. The first renders of the device are already included in the post.

As for the specs, the Vernee Thor is said to come with a 5-inch HD On-cell display with Mediatek’s MT6753 octa-core chipset under the hood. There will be 3GB of RAM inside with 16GB of internal storage, further expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD card slot.

At the back, the Vernee Thor will feature a 13MP camera while up front, a 5MP Shooter. Detailed information about the camera specs are not yet available. Finally, inside, the phone will come with a 2800mAh battery, which should be fine, considering the Cortex A53 powered processor and the low-power consuming 5-inch 720p screen.

Vernee is yet to specify an exact release date for the Vernee Thor, but expect a launch sometime in April. Since its partnership with Uber, you can expect the app to come pre-installed with the device. But we are not yet sure about the specifics of the agreement, so we better wait for more details from the company.
