But lately, there have been rumours that Xiaomi is about to bring the full-screen design to its mid-range and budget Redmi series. We may have spotted the leaked render of one of the Redmi devices with a full-screen design that is expected to be released soon.

The device remains unnamed but clearly packs an 18:9 full-screen design. The screen-to-body ratio isn’t up to that of the Mi Mix 2 as there is still some amount of bezels on all four sides. However, the bezels are very much reduced on all fours. Despite having narrower bezels, the Xiaomi full-screen model may come with criticism as a result of the pronounced border on the two sides. The lower aspect is appreciably reduced as well as the upper aspect, just enough to house the selfie camera which looks like a dual camera setup. There is also room for the earpiece and other sensors at the top. We are only able to see the lower part of the back casing but the device may likely have a dual camera setup and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Related: Xiaomi Mi 6C Render Leaked Showing Dual Camera Setup

Apart from the full-screen design, the device has all the dressings of the mid-range Rrdmi models like a metal body and dual speakers located at the bottom edge. The device also seems to utilize a USB Type-C port among others. We can’t vouch for the authenticity of the renders but it is rumoured to be priced around 1,499 Yuan (around $226). Could this be the Xiaomi Mi 6C? We’re not sure yet but more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.

While we are yet to fully digest the news, a new set of images said to be a fan-designed concept of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Hatsune Edition. Xiaomi has said nothing about a Redmi Note 5, perhaps due to the poor outing of the Redmi Note 4. The Redmi Note 4 has been relaunched in a Snapdragon version and now a Redmi Note 4X variant with touched up features.

However, that doesn’t mean we aren’t expecting to see a Redmi Note 5 anytime soon. But before then, we’ll just have a look at the concept images which looks more like the Sony Xperia in its design style than a Xiaomi smartphone. In the end, it is just some concept design that we should just have fun watching and nothing more. Check out more images down below.

The company also celebrated its over half a million sales in just 72 hours during the Diwali festive period last year. Also, the company disclosed that it has sold over 2.3 million units of the Redmi Note 3 in India alone. In an apparent bid to consolidate of its numerous successes in India, Xiaomi has sent out invites to a news conference scheduled to hold on January 19 in New Delhi.

The press invite did not state the product that would be launched but it did state that the event was the 2017 Mi product launch. The company did mention on its social media page, though, that the product on display would be a Redmi smartphone.

The Redmi series have proven to be very successful for the tech company, so it is no surprise that they are planning to launch another one. The likely candidate is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 which recently got the nod at US FCC. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was launched mid-2016 as a successor to the highly successful Redmi Note 3. The Redmi Note 4 has not performed incredibly well in China but it may just perform marvelously well in the India market just like the Redmi Note 3 did. Perhaps due to the change in the processor from an Helio X20 SoC with which it appeared in India, to a Snapdragon 652 chip. As usual, the Redmi smartphones are cheap, so we expect a cheap price tag on the India version.

Not too long ago, it was the turn of Samsung and now a Xiaomi Redmi device is reported to have recently gone up in flames in China. If you think the exploding Xiaomi Redmi phone was a big enough surprise, wait until you hear what happened next. It was reported that Xiaomi tried to use a confidentiality (non-disclosure) agreement as condition for compensation, in order to make the victim keep mute about the incident.

According to the report, the Xiaomi smartphone was bought on March 1 this year by a mother as a gift for her daughter. On December 21, while the phone was being charged, it suddenly started to feel hot and despite that it was removed from the charging point it still got burn’t. The victim claimed to have been using the original phone charger and data cable to charge the Xiaomi smartphone as at the time of the incident and the phone wasn’t used for purposes it wasn’t made for. On contacting Xiaomi’s customer service, the case was investigated and after negotiations, the company offered her a full refund and an additional 600 yuan as compensation.

However, the offer was tied to a confidentiality agreement which the lady was required to sign. The clauses in the agreement require that she would not reveal the incident in the media, or any other communication or social platform. The lady also alleged that refusal to sign the agreement would have meant she wouldn’t get the compensation, so it was signed. Lawyers have said such clause were invalid and so she isn’t obliged to keep mute. Perhaps that’s why we are getting to hear about it.

You may be wondering why Xiaomi is trying to hide such a serious safety incident that users of the brand deserve to know about? Well, we haven’t got the answer to that as we are at a loss as well over here.

The unknown Xiaomi phone is listed with the model number 2016111 and from the specifications is likely the Xiaomi Redmi 4A.

The device is listed as sporting a 5-inch display with 720 pixels (HD) resolution with a dimension of 139.9 x 70.4 x 8.5 mm and weighing 140 g. The said device also features a rear mounted fingerprint scanner and the TENAA render adorns a champagne gold colored metal body.

Further, the said Xiaomi Redmi 4A is listed as featuring a Quad-core 1.4GHz processor along with 2GB of RAM. There is also a 5MP front-facing camera on the device as well as an 8MP rear camera unit with LED flash. The rear camera is unique in that it sits in the same line with the antenna band, looking as if the antenna lines runs through it. The supposed Redmi 4A is also listed as coming with infrared.

Read More: Xiaomi Redmi 4 Images and Specs Appears on TENAA: FHD, 3GB RAM & 699 Yuan ($105) Price

Recall that the Xiaomi Redmi 4 had appeared on TENAA months back alongside the already launched Redmi Note 4. The Redmi 4 was listed as packing a 3GB RAM as against the 2GB on this version. Other specs also differ as well as the location of the rear camera and flash. So it’s likely this is a trimmed down, perhaps cheaper version of the still to be released Redmi 4. The Redmi 4 was rumored to come with a cheap price tag hovering around 699 Yuan, this Redmi 4A might even be ultra-cheap with some predicting a price around 599 Yuan. We can’t be so sure about that though, but it is likely a launch is imminent.

These models are found using charger MDY-08-EF, output specifications for the 5V / 2A. Given that the charger is just 5V 2A which is generally used by the budget Redmi lineup, there’s a good chance that these phones might be associated with the Redmi series. The Mi series now comes standard with fast charge support.

However, the Redmi Note series has been updated three times within a few months. The company’s last device in the series was the Redmi Note 3 Pro which was launched back in January with snapdragon 650 processor. So, it’s likely that this could be an updated model of the low-budget Redmi 3. But we are not quite sure of anything at the moment. Redmi 3 was also announced just a couple of months back. So, will Xiaomi release an update so soon?

We will have to wait and watch. Stay tuned for more details.
