This year’s smartwatch launches were packed into a short period. Samsung and Google introduced their new watches in July and August, while Garmin also released the Fenix 9 series just recently. 

Most of the major changes this year focus on health, fitness, and battery life. Samsung improved its sleep apnea and cardio tracking features, and Google introduced a breathing emergency detector that can contact emergency services automatically. Best for iPhone Users

One of the most notable additions is Breathing Emergency Detection, which will launch first in Europe. It monitors for major drops in blood oxygen and can automatically contact emergency services if the wearer becomes unresponsive.

Google also improved the battery life on both versions. The 41mm model has a 332mAh battery and is rated for up to 30 hours with the always-on display enabled. The Amazfit Balance 3 is made for people who want a capable smartwatch without spending flagship-level money. It has a 1.5-inch AMOLED display with sapphire crystal glass and can reach up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness.

Amazfit launched the Balance 3 with a 51.4mm case. It is 14.6mm thick and weighs 62 grams in the stainless steel version. A lighter 55-gram titanium version is also planned.

The watch has a 10ATM water resistance rating, and its HybridCharge Energy Intelligence system tracks training load, daily stress, and sleep. It can then use this information to suggest when you should focus on rest and recovery.

Garmin has announced the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro, updating its multisport smartwatch line. The new watches add built-in microphones and speakers, brighter AMOLED displays, and optional inReach satellite connectivity for off-grid messaging.

Both models are available in 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm case sizes. The standard Fenix 9 features a 1.4-inch AMOLED display, which Garmin says is twice as bright as the previous Fenix 8. The Fenix 9 Pro uses a larger 1.5-inch AMOLED screen that reaches 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Garmin is expanding its high-end marine wearables lineup with the launch of the quatix 8 Pro. The flagship smartwatch is designed specifically for individuals who spend a significant amount of time on the water. 

The quatix 8 Pro doesn’t stray far from its predecessor’s design language. Garmin has equipped the watch with a 47mm titanium bezel, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and a 1.4-inch high-brightness AMOLED display. The display is readable in direct sunlight and tough enough to withstand saltwater, spray, and extended periods at sea.

Offshore connectivity, 24-hour response center, and more

Where the quatix 8 Pro really separates itself from standard smartwatches is connectivity. Garmin is targeting one of the biggest frustrations of offshore boating: losing signal. 

The watch integrates inReach satellite technology alongside an LTE cellular module, allowing users to stay connected even when they’re as far as 50 miles (80.4 km) offshore. As a result, users can send text messages, make voice calls, and check real-time weather updates without needing a phone. 

The quatix 8 Pro also includes an SOS emergency rescue function that lets users send a distress signal directly from the watch. That signal goes to Garmin’s 24-hour Response emergency center, which the company says has already coordinated more than 1,200 successful water rescues. 

On the software side, Garmin is introducing a new Boat Mode. The interface adapts automatically based on where you are. When you’re on the water, marine tools like autopilot controls, trolling motor status, and vessel data are pinned front and center. Once you’re back on land — at work or at the gym — those tools are replaced by everyday apps and health metrics.

Despite packing a bright AMOLED display and constant connectivity options, Garmin says the quatix 8 Pro can still deliver up to 15 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. Beyond its nautical focus, it also supports all-day health tracking, Garmin Pay, and more than 100 sports modes, including water-specific activities like wakeboarding and waterskiing.

It does not have built-in GPS but can access GPS data when paired with a GPS-enabled Garmin camera. It supports microSD cards from 8 GB to 512 GB. The Dash Cam X 110 records 1440p HDR video and has a 2.41 inch color TFT LCD display with a resolution of 480 by 272 pixels. It includes GPS, Galileo, incident detection with a G sensor, voice control and driver alerts that include forward collision, lane departure and a Go alert. It includes a 2.41 inch display, GPS, Galileo, voice control and incident detection. It supports Live View, Parking Guard, multi-camera syncing, Wi-Fi connectivity and Garmin Vault cloud storage. It uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with up to 20 minutes of backup time and supports microSD cards up to 512 GB.

Garmin has launched two new aviator smartwatches, the D2 Air X15 and D2 Mach 2. Both models combine aviation-focused features with health, fitness, and smartwatch capabilities.

They include AMOLED touchscreen displays, built-in speakers and microphones, avionics connectivity, voice commands, and aviation morning reports. The D2 Air X15 offers up to 10 days of battery life, while the D2 Mach 2 lasts up to 26 days in smartwatch mode.

Both watches connect with the Garmin Pilot app to display avionics data, navigation information, and crew alerts. They offer on-device voice commands for actions like starting a fly activity or requesting METAR data. Pilots can also record geo-referenced voice memos during flights. The Garmin Messenger app supports two-way texting from the wrist.

The D2 Air X15 features a 1.4-inch AMOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 3, a stainless steel or slate bezel, and a black silicone band. The watch face changes color based on METAR data. A built-in LED flashlight includes adjustable white light and a red light with night vision-friendly Red Shift mode. The watch supports PlaneSync, letting users check aircraft status like fuel and battery levels remotely.

The X15 supports GPS, HSI navigation, and a worldwide aeronautical database. Garmin has launched the Bounce 2, a smartwatch for kids with LTE connectivity that allows parents to stay in touch through two-way calling, text messaging, and real-time location tracking. The watch also offers fun and activity-focused features for children.

Garmin Bounce 2 features:

Using the Garmin Jr. app on a compatible smartphone, parents and approved contacts can call or send messages to their child. Bounce 2 has a built-in speaker and microphone for calls and voice messages. Kids can respond with voice messages or use the full keyboard to send texts. Voice message transcriptions allow parents to read messages when listening is not possible.

The watch shows the child’s location in real-time and supports temporary geofencing. Parents are notified when the child enters or leaves a designated area.

Garmin has started pushing out a new beta update for its Instinct smartwatch lineup, bringing a handful of bug fixes aimed at improving reliability. The update, version 10.36, covers the Instinct 3 AMOLED, Instinct 3 Solar, and Instinct E models and is available now through the Garmin Connect app or Garmin Express.

The update follows the stable 10.30 build released in August and takes aim at several frustrating issues. One major fix applies to all models, correcting a problem with the Broadcast Heart Rate feature that failed to work properly when triggered with a hot key. That should make sharing heart rate data during workouts more seamless.

For the Instinct 3 Solar and AMOLED versions, Garmin has fixed a strobe light bug that left the flashlight running even after exiting an activity. Meanwhile, Instinct 3 Solar and Instinct E users get a fix for Connect IQ data fields, which now show up correctly in glances. A temperature display issue in the weather glance has also been addressed.

Runners using the Instinct 3 Solar will welcome a fix for a crash that occurred when pairing with Garmin’s Running Dynamics Pod. This should make setup smoother and more reliable.

While the update doesn’t add new features, it’s a welcome round of polish. By ironing out glitches in heart rate sharing, lighting, and activity sensors, Garmin is keeping its Instinct line dependable for outdoor and fitness-focused users. The beta build is live now, with a wider rollout expected after testing wraps up.

Garmin just launched their new Instinct 3 series in India. It’s a line of tough smartwatches aimed at people who love the outdoors or fitness. They come in two sizes, 45mm and 50mm, and there are three versions: the Instinct 3 Solar, the Instinct 3 AMOLED, and the basic Instinct E.

These watches are built tough, meeting military standards (MIL-STD 810), so they can handle extreme heat, shocks, and being underwater up to 100 meters. The Solar and AMOLED models have metal bezels, strong plastic cases, and scratch-resistant screens. The AMOLED model has a new, colorful 390 x 390 resolution screen with the Always-on feature. The Solar version has a black-and-white screen, but it can run forever if it gets enough sunlight.

They’ve added some cool features. The GPS is more accurate, with multi-band GPS and SatIQ. There’s also TracBack routing and a flashlight with brightness control. They track your heart rate, oxygen levels, stress, women’s health, and sleep. For safety, they have LiveTrack and can detect if is wearer has an accident.

The AMOLED model has some unique things, like workout animations on the screen, a Red Shift mode for using it at night, and it works with GameOn, which is a bit surprising for a tough watch. Both the Solar and AMOLED versions have animated workout guides and over 30 sports modes, including hiking, swimming, and tactical stuff. The Solar model’s battery lasts up to 40 days (or 70 hours with GPS), and the AMOLED lasts 18 days (or 32 hours with GPS). These watches can sync notifications with your smartphone, use Garmin Pay, and send two-way messages with Garmin Messenger.

Among the new features, the brand has made upgrades to the software, adding a new smart wake alarm. This feature basically analyses your sleeping pattern and wakes you up gently in the lightest sleep phase with slight vibrations. So you won’t have to worry about oversleeping or getting jerked awake. Being a fitness oriented smartwatch, there’s a bunch of health and fitness related trackers but the biggest addition is the new Running Dynamics and Running Power that uses the PacePro technology.

Other notable features include blood oxygen monitoring, heart rate tracking, nap detection, stress tracking, sleep and women’s health tracking as well. The Vivoactive 6 has just been announced with QZSS and Beidou support along with the usual GPS, Glonass, and Galileo technology. The service also integrates seamlessly with Apple’s Find My app, so parents can see their child’s location in real time. And you can set up notifications for when your child reaches school or arrive home. 

There’s also Schooltime mode, which locks the watch to a simple clock face. You can schedule it to activate during class hours and if the child disables it, you’ll be notified of it. 

But an Apple Watch for kids isn’t exactly cheap. It’s an option if you’re already in the Apple ecosystem and want a connected smartwatch for your child. In this case, any Apple Watch with cellular support will do the job.

But if you’re looking for a new one, the best option is the Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen) because it’s the most affordable model available.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7

Like Apple, Samsung doesn’t offer a kid-specific smartwatch. Instead, it provides a dedicated mode for its Galaxy Watch that works similarly to Apple’s solution — but for Android phones.

To set up the smartwatch for your child, you’ll need to use the Google Family Link app. This lets you establish guardrails, such as trusted contacts for calls and texts or GPS tracking. And since it’s a full-fledged smartwatch just with a kid mode, you can access all the apps available on the Play Store. 

Of course, parents have control over what their kids can use, and there’s a School Time mode — similar to Apple Watch — that limits functionality during school hours to help kids stay focused. In an emergency, kids can also activate the SOS feature by pressing the side button five times. 

As mentioned earlier, there’s no dedicated Samsung watch for kids. However, the Galaxy Watch for Kids mode is currently available only on the Galaxy Watch 7 LTE model in the US, supported by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon networks. The feature is relatively new, having launched just in January this year, so it’s likely to roll out to older Galaxy Watch models in the future.

That said, like Apple’s solution, this isn’t the most budget-friendly way to keep track of your kids. If you’re looking for something more affordable, we’ve got a few options below.

Fitbit Ace LTE

Launched in August 2024, the Fitbit Ace LTE is designed specifically for kids, with games, activity tracking, location sharing, and built-in LTE for calls and messaging. 

To access calling, texting, and location sharing, you’ll need the Ace Pass, a $9.99-per-month subscription that enables LTE connectivity. While the watch can still be used without a subscription, its capabilities are limited to just basic movement and step tracking.

Unlike the Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch, the Ace LTE doesn’t support third-party app downloads. Instead, it comes preloaded with games designed to keep kids entertained.

The Ace LTE works as a standalone device and is cross-platform. Parents can set it up through the Fitbit Ace app on Android or iOS, where they can manage contacts (who also need the Ace app), and enable school hours which disables games and calls. You can also, of course, track your child’s location which also syncs with Google Maps. 

A notable safety feature of the Fitbit Ace is the “Call for Help” feature. The child can press and hold the top-side button to activate it which will begin a five-second countdown. If canceled in time, nothing happens. But if it reaches zero, the watch automatically dials emergency contacts, starting with the primary parent.

It’s a kid-friendly smartwatch with solid safety features—but like most connected wearables, you’ll need to pay extra to unlock its full potential.

Xiaomi Smart Kids Watch

Xiaomi’s Smart Kids Watch is one of the most affordable options out there with built-in GPS tracking. It features two-way calling, and GPS making it a solid pick for parents looking for a safety-focused smartwatch for their kids. The battery life? Better than many competitors.

The standout feature here is video calling. Yes, the watch has a tiny camera built into the top bezel, letting parents not only talk to their kids but also get a quick look at their surroundings. Unlike pricier LTE-enabled wearables, Xiaomi’s watch relies on Wi-Fi for video calls. It also supports voice messages of up to 15 seconds, so kids can send quick updates without hopping on a call.

There’s also a Do Not Disturb mode, which mutes calls and messages during set periods—perfect for school hours or bedtime. It also has an SOS button that instantly alerts designated emergency contacts, ensuring quick assistance in case of an emergency.

On the fitness side, the watch includes exercise modes like skipping, outdoor running, and cycling. Parents can track their child’s activity, including time spent exercising, calories burned, and steps, through the Xiaomi Kids app.

For the price, it’s a compelling choice—especially if staying connected (without handing your kid a smartphone) is the goal.

The Garmin Bounce is a feature-packed kids’ smartwatch with LTE connectivity, live GPS tracking, and fitness tracking. It offers two-way texting and voice messaging through the Garmin Jr app, and as expected, contacts are limited to approved users. Parents can set step goals, safety boundaries, and Do Not Disturb schedules for school or bedtime.

The Bounce tracks walking, running, swimming, and biking, with GPS-enabled distance tracking and includes sleep tracking, alarms, and chore reminders. It also has a built-in adventure feature that encourages kids to stay active with virtual rewards, though much of it happens in the companion app rather than on the watch itself.

The Bounce offers an incredible battery life of about 35–50 hours depending on GPS use. However, LTE features require a $10/month subscription, and the watch’s location boundaries are limited to fixed-radius circles, making precise tracking tricky. Despite some quirks, the Garmin Bounce is a solid option for parents looking for a connected, safety-focused smartwatch for their kids.

Garmin’s response

A red banner on Garmin’s US and UKwebsites addresses the issue. The message states that they are researching reports of devices showing a blue triangle when starting a GPS activity. They suggest that a reset by pressing and holding the power button might restore functionality. Garmin also mentions that they will share more information on a permanent fix once it is available.

Users are advised to power off their devices, restart them, and sync with the Garmin Connect app or Garmin Express. While the root cause remains unclear, a faulty firmware update affecting GPS subsystems is the likely culprit.

Does the fix work?

The temporary fix has yielded mixed results. Some users report success after resetting their devices, while others claim the issue resurfaces later. Notably, factory resets erase Connect IQ content, Body Battery data, Garmin Wallet information, and custom settings. Until a permanent solution is released, Garmin watch owners are urged to stay updated and proceed with caution.

Garmin is apparently gearing up to launch a new smartwatch from its Instinct lineup. The Garmin Instinct 3 was just spotted in a new leak, confirming details like solar fast charging and repair costs. So here’s everything you need to know about this new smart wearable.

Garmin Instinct 3: What’s special about this smartwatch?

Garming’s upcoming Instinct 3 smartwatch recently surfaced on a support page on the brand’s website. This listing revealed its repair costs as well. The leak also confirms that the solar charging feature is returning on one version of the wearable. To recall, the Instinct 2 launched back in 2022 with this same feature on its Solar variant. The Instinct Solar 3 was spotted on the Garmin website in Spain, which listed it on a support page (Via NotebookCheck).

Based on what we know so far, there is a 45mm variant that will launch in black with the model number 010-02934-00. This variant also has a repair cost of 133.33 Euros. To recall, the Instinct 2 Solar had a repair cost of 128.57 Euros. In other words, the next gen Garmin Instinct 3 is likely getting a price hike. Last year’s Instinct 2 cost 449.99 US Dollars on launch, so the Instinct 3 might be hitting the 500 US Dollar price mark.

Unfortunately, the exact size variants of the Garmin Instinct 3 is still at large. But there might be a 40mm, 45mm, and 50mm opinion as well. Garmin could also launch a non solar variant alongside the solar charging version. The upcoming smartwatch will likely launch in early 2025 in multiple color options. Garmin introduced the inReach Messenger, a satellite communicator with two-way texting and SOS support, in 2022 to keep you connected when there’s no cellphone coverage.

The company has now refreshed the device, renaming it the inReach Messenger Plus. This version still has text-only features but now also allows you to send photos and voice messages via satellite.

The upgrade comes at a cost, though. While the original Messenger sits comfortably at $299.99, the Plus jumps to $499.99 – and that doesn’t include the satellite subscription you’ll need to use it.  Subscription plans range from $11.95 to $49.95 per month, with even higher options for professionals and larger groups.
