Sony Xperia 1 VI could be slightly cheaper than its predecessor

The Sony Xperia 1 VI, expected to launch soon, may come with a slightly reduced price tag in Taiwan compared to its predecessor, according to a recent rumor.

Sony Xperia 1 VI

As per a report by SumahoDigest, a user on Weibo has shared a snippet of code that reveals that the Sony Xperia 1 VI will come with a price tag of 39,990 TWD in Taiwan, which roughly translates to USD 1,227. This represents a decrease of around 5% from the Sony Xperia 1 V, which was initially priced at 41,990 TWD.

While there’s a chance of a price drop in other regions as well, the new Xperia 1 VI is still a premium device. The previous Xperia 1 V was priced at $1,399 in the U.S. and £1,299 in the UK. The new Xperia 1 VI is expected to be unveiled at a launch event in Japan scheduled for May 17.

So far, reports have revealed that the Xperia 1 VI will feature a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, rather than the 21:9 ratio present on its predecessor. It is also rumored to downgrade to a 2K display rather than a 4K one.

Regarding the camera setup, there’s some uncertainty. Initially, it was claimed that the Xperia 1 VI would boast a triple camera setup with 48MP Exmor T sensors across all lenses. However, a more recent report contradicts this, suggesting a setup comprising a 48 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 12 MP telephoto camera. Only the main camera would feature an Exmor T sensor. Notably, this configuration mirrors that of the current Xperia 1 V.

RealFill: Google’s recent trademark for AI image expansion

AI is now everywhere in our lives and most of the tech companies are introducing their AI-based products. In a new trademark that Google applied for, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the US Patent and Trade Office (USPTO) revealed that they are working on a project called “RealFill”.

AI needs more of your images to give better results

Android Authority team points out that RealFill won’t be a downloadable software; similar to Google‘s Magic Editor in Pixel phones, all your edits are actually not processed on-device but made on Google’s own servers.

This future AI feature is essentially similar to Adobe’s “Generative Fill” feature, although Google appears to be trying to get rid of any imperfections in photos. With RealFill, users will be able to generate entirely new image by using five previously taken photos as a base. You will somewhat train the AI algorithm with your previously taken 5 different images, and then the AI will apply the image expansion on your target image.

Google’s AI algorithm in development aims to create a more accurate image expansion with the different images users provide. Thus, instead of creating random objects unexpectedly during the expand process, the algorithm will generate much more realistic images by referencing users’ base images.

RealFill hasn’t been publicly released yet, but it comes with some limitations. Unwanted outcomes could appear in the final image if there are significant differences between the target image and the images used as references that the user provided. It is obvious from the shared RealFill demos that the base photos are extremely similar to one another; in fact, we could say that they are just different angles on the same scene. You can visit RealFill website to see more.

Currently, there are many image expansion solutions available powered by AI, although they sometimes work well, most of the time they can result in a disappointment. It’s unknown when Google will release RealFill to the public; perhaps we might see this feature in the Pixel 9 series, but for now, everything is very unclear.

After renders, Pixel 8a leaks in promo materials with seven years of update

Following a wave of leaked renders, Google’s Pixel 8a is stepping out of the shadows with a fresh batch of promotional materials. These new materials give us a more detailed glimpse into what this mid-range smartphone has in store.

The promo material confirms that the Pixel 8a will be powered by the Tensor G3 chipset, the same one found in the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. The silicon should provide solid performance for everyday tasks.

On the camera front, the Pixel 8a is touted as having an “AI-mazing” camera. It has features like Best Take, Audio Magic Eraser, and Night Sight, which are all powered by AI.

Best Take helps you pick the perfect shot from a burst, automatically selecting the one where everyone has their eyes open and looks natural.

Moreover, Audio Magic Eraser removes unnecessary background noise in videos, and Night Sight will help to capture better low-light shots.

The Pixel 8a is also rumored to support “fast charging” and sport a “dependable all-day battery,” although we’re still waiting on specifics. Leaks suggest a 4,500 mAh battery size.

For durability, the Pixel 8a will also have an IP67 rating, making it resistant to dust and capable of surviving in up to one meter of water for half an hour.

But the real highlight of the Pixel 8a might be its software. The promo hints at an impressive seven-year run of security updates, aligning it with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.

As for other specifications, rumors suggest that the phone will have a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of base storage, a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and support for 27W wired charging.

The handset is expected to launch on May 14th at the Google I/O and it might go on sale on May 16th.
