Xiaomi HyperOS global rollout to begin in Q1 2024: Check the list of eligible devices

Xiaomi introduced its new in-house operating system, HyperOS, during the Xiaomi 14 series launch event in late October. Following the announcement, the company began rolling out the latest OS update to its smartphones in China.

Now, the company has finally shared the global rollout plan. It took nearly two months for Xiaomi to reveal the details of the global release of the HyperOS custom skin.

HyperOS Global rollout plan

Xiaomi officially confirmed the global availability of HyperOS through its MIUI account, now renamed Xiaomi HyperOS, on X/Twitter. The announcement states that HyperOS will be rolled out to select Xiaomi and Redmi devices in the first quarter of 2024. The devices included in the rollout plan are as follows:

While the list includes Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones, you may have noticed it notably excludes any mention of Poco smartphones.

Worry not! The POCO Global account on X/Twitter has reassured Poco users that the Poco F5 will be the first Poco device to receive the HyperOS update. And, its release appears imminent. Although the exact launch date remains under wraps, Poco promised to share information for other devices later.

Xiaomi’s initial global rollout plan for HyperOS includes only a handful of relatively new smartphones. Thus, owners of older Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco phones will have to wait for their turn for the HyperOS update. While they won’t be experiencing HyperOS right away, the fact that Xiaomi is now finally preparing for the global rollout of HyperOS is undoubtedly good news.

For those eager to check their smartphone’s HyperOS availability, this link provides a helpful resource. We regularly update news about specific models entering HyperOS testing on Xiaomi’s internal servers.

Xiaomi investigates the spontaneous unlocking of its Smart Door Lock, ensures its reliability

Xiaomi has responded to user concerns regarding its Smart Door Lock, following reports of unexpected door openings. A user recently shared a concerning experience, stating that the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock would mysteriously open, even in the middle of the night. The incident gained attention on Weibo and initiated discussions about the device’s safety.

These models neither support the automatic retraction function of the lock tongue nor have any network remote unlocking function, states Xiaomi

In response, a spokesperson for Xiaomi posted on Weibo, explaining that after thorough verification, the products featured in the videos utilize semi-automatic lock bodies with in-line C-level lock cylinders. Importantly, these models lack the automatic retraction function of the lock tongue, ruling out the possibility of spontaneous openings. Xiaomi emphasized that the smart door lock does not support network remote unlocking, further enhancing security features.

The spokesperson clarified that in cases where the door is not fully closed or the door frame has a larger installation tolerance, there might be a theoretical chance of an “accidental automatic door opening.” To address user concerns, Xiaomi’s after-sales engineers conducted a comprehensive inspection, but the reported situation was not replicated during testing.

To ensure transparency and reassure the public, Xiaomi announced its intention to invite a third-party appraisal agency to conduct qualification tests on the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock. This move aligns with Xiaomi’s commitment to prioritizing user safety and security.

The company expressed gratitude to users and the media for their attention, stating that the concerns of the users have been resolved through communication.

Xiaomi isn’t taking a traditional approach to car building. Lei revealed that the company has dedicated over 10 times the resources typically invested in a first car model by a conventional automaker. This translates to a team of 3,400 engineers and an R&D budget exceeding 10 billion yuan (approximately $1.4 billion).

“We invested 3,400 engineers on the first model, and the whole R&D investment was more than RMB 10 billion. So we are making use of more than ten times the industry’s investment,” he said.

Despite his confidence, Lei acknowledges the challenges ahead. He expressed concern about potential production bottlenecks and long wait times, which could damage Xiaomi’s reputation if not managed effectively.

“I’m more worried that if everyone buys it, resulting in a long wait time, say one or two years, we’ll get a bad rap,” Lei said.

While the official unveiling of the car is still to come, some details have already been revealed. The model dubbed the SU7, is a sporty-looking four-door sedan that surpasses the size of both Tesla’s Model 3 and Nio’s ET5. It will be available with two battery options offering ranges of up to 800 kilometers on a single charge.

The electric car market is already crowded with established players and ambitious startups. Xiaomi’s success will depend on its ability to deliver a car that stands out in terms of performance, technology, and, perhaps most importantly, price.

Nubia Z60 Ultra Specifications Teased Officially Ahead of Tomorrow’s Launch

Nubia Z60 Ultra is slated to launch on December 17 in China. Ahead of launch, most of the specifications and design details are already live for the device. However, the pricing and availability details are yet to become official. In a new teaser, the company officially unveiled some additional details about the smartphone, like the presence of a 6000 mAh graphite anode battery and IP68 waterproof and dustproof certification.

The teaser also flaunts the presence of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC along with the 5th gen under-display front camera technology. It features a triple-camera module optimized with OIS. The smartphone houses an 18mm 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 35mm 50MP primary sensor, and an 85mm 64MP telephoto camera. Nubia Z60’s exterior design looks more captivating with three color options: Starry Sky Collector’s Edition, Galaxy, and Shine.

The exciting Starry Sky Collector Edition boasts exclusive glasses-free 3D star diamond technology on the rear. The starry sky 3D design is easily visible without any 3D glasses. The smartphone even ships with an external case and a charging adapter consisting of 3 different ports: USB-C 1, USB-C 2, and USB-Type-A. A couple of USB C Type 1 and Type 2 cables are also part of the box.

Nubia Z60 Ultra will further feature a 6000mAh battery with 80W wired fast charging technology. It could come with a 6.82-inch 1.5K BOE LTPO display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The display offers 1400 PWM dimming and 1500 nits of maximum brightness. Further, it could come with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

The graphite anode battery increases energy density, which enables it to hold more charge while weighing the same. However, Nubia employs a mix of silicon and graphite materials for the anode to make it hold more charge without any major expansion-related issues.

Talking about the design, the smartphone offers a raw look with a unique rear design that features a couple of camera modules and a long LED flash. The smartphone also adds an alert-slider-like switch, which could help users customize camera functionality.

Redmi Note 14 in works, tipped to rival the Realme 12 series

Redmi is set to launch the Redmi Note 13 series of smartphones globally on Jan. 4 India will be the first market outside China to receive the Note 13 lineup on that date. Subsequent releases are planned for other markets. As the global market prepares for the Note 13 series, a Chinese tipster has claimed that the brand is preparing to unveil the Note 14 series for the domestic market.

Realme 12 Pro vs Redmi Note 14 Pro likely to happen soon

Recent reports have revealed that Realme plans to unveil the Realme 12 series of smartphones in the first quarter of 2024. The Realme 12 lineup is likely to include multiple models, but the rumor mill hasn’t revealed significant details yet. However, reports have provided key details about the Realme 12 Pro series.

The Realme 12 Pro and 12 Pro+ are expected to feature the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset. Speculations suggest that the rear camera setup of the Realme 12 Pro will include a 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The Realme 12 Pro+, on the other hand, is said to be equipped with a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

According to a Chinese leaker, the Realme 12 series, particularly the Pro lineup, will face competition from the Redmi Note 14 series. The Redmi Note 13 series was unveiled in China in September, so the company will likely maintain a six-month gap before announcing the Redmi Note 14 lineup. This suggests that it could debut in the first quarter of 2024, possibly in February. The tipster claimed that the Note 14 series will have a curved-edge display, some flagship-level features, and the same price range as the Realme counterparts. The Note 14 series will also decentralize some of the camera features that are available on the company’s flagship smartphones.

Unfortunately, there is currently no information available about the Redmi Note 14 series’ specifications. With the rival brand aiming to introduce telephoto and periscope telephoto cameras on the 12 Pro series at a price of around 2,000 Yuan (~$280), it is possible that the Redmi Note 14 Pro could feature a telephoto camera, while the Note 14 Pro+ could have a periscope telephoto camera. It is too early to speculate on the specifications of the Note 14 lineup, so it is advisable to wait for further reports before making any assumptions.
