AOC Q27G10E gaming monitor with 2K 180Hz IPS panel launched for 1099 Yuan ($154)

AOC recently unveiled the Q27G10E monitor, and it has now officially launched. It’s currently available for purchase on some Chinese e-commerce platforms at a price of 1099 Yuan ($154), with availability starting from December 1st. Let’s delve into the key specs of this monitor.

AOC Q27G10E monitor

AOC Q27G10E Key Features:

The AOC Q27G10E features a 27-inch display with a 2K resolution and an impressive 180Hz refresh rate. Its IPS panel delivers accurate color reproduction, covering 126% of the sRGB color gamut, resulting in vivid and lifelike visuals. This makes it a versatile choice suitable for activities like gaming and content creation.

The gaming monitor boasts a quick 1ms Gray-to-Gray (GtG) response time, which reduces motion blur and ghosting, providing a smoother gaming experience. It also supports 10-bit color depth, DeltaE <2 precise color, HDR 10, enhancing contrast and expanding the color range for a more immersive visual experience.

According to the company, the monitor offers compatibility with AMD chip open-source permissions, enabling secondary development of the IC chip. This translates to faster transmission of graphics card signals to the monitor, reducing screen latency and input lag. Users can also fine-tune their display with a customizable 0-20 level color tone adjustment, which improves grayscale, image saturation, and depth.

The Q27G10E monitor places a premium on user comfort by incorporating AOC’s Low Blue Mode, which reduces blue light emissions. This feature helps alleviate eye strain, particularly useful for those who spend extended hours in front of their screens.

In terms of connectivity, the monitor offers versatility with various options, including HDMI and DP interfaces, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices.

AOC has also introduced two new monitors recently: the AOC Q27G3XMN, a 1440p QD-Mini LED Gaming monitor, now available in the UK, and the AOC U27N10R, an office monitor with a 27-inch 4K panel, priced at 1599 yuan ($223).

OpenAI’s Alarming Discovery of a Powerful AI That Poses a Threat to Humanity

Artificial intelligence technologies continue to become widespread and are appearing in every aspect of our lives. While many people find this development beneficial for the progress of humanity, others consider it dangerous. However, it seems that the latter group is justified. This is because OpenAI employees, who recently resigned from their positions, warned about a “powerful artificial intelligence discovery that could threaten humanity” sparking concerns and discussions. Here ate the details…

OpenAI reportedly made a potentially scary AI breakthrough

OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has just concluded a highly eventful week. Initially, the company’s CEO was ousted by the board of directors but was reinstated after pressure. Right after that, CEO Sam Altman made changes to the board. Many of us struggled to make sense of these chaotic power plays and tried to understand what was unfolding. It turns out that one of the reasons behind the scandal was a discovery that could potentially bring about the end of humanity.

OpenAI AI

As you may know, OpenAI is working on various artificial intelligence models. Two of these, GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, are currently available. However, there’s another AI model that the company has named Q. What sets Q apart is that it’s not your typical AI like ChatGPT or Bard that we’re accustomed to. According to claims, Q is a technology straight out of science fiction films, capable of performing highly complex tasks.

Some employees believe that Q represents an advanced technology at a dangerously intelligent level. According to them, this AI could become too intelligent and potentially pose harm to humans. In fact, some employees became so concerned about this discovery and the CEO’s behavior that they brought the matter to the attention of the board of directors. After discussions with Sam Altman, the board members, citing the CEO’s failure to take the danger seriously, decided to dismiss him.

Of course, all of this is currently based on rumors. However, the company’s reluctance to comment on the matter only adds to the suspicions. The exact workings of Q and why it instills so much fear are still unclear. One thing is certain, though: the science fiction disasters we enjoy watching are just a step away from becoming a reality.

Baidu beats revenue estimates, navigates AI Chip challenges amidst U.S. export curbs

In a robust third-quarter performance, Baidu, the Chinese tech giant, reported a 6% increase in revenue to 34.45 billion yuan, surpassing analysts’ expectations. The company’s adjusted net income also demonstrated a healthy 23% rise to 7.27 billion yuan, propelling U.S.-listed shares up by 1.8% in morning trading.

Despite these gains, Baidu faces challenges in the AI chip landscape due to U.S. export curbs, with CEO Robin Li Yanhong acknowledging potential impacts. However, he reassured stakeholders, stating that Baidu’s extensive stockpile of AI chips could sustain the upgrading of its Ernie large language model for the next two years. To mitigate future risks, the company is actively exploring alternative sources, with recent reports suggesting a potential deal with Huawei for domestically-made AI chips.

The U.S. sanctions on AI chip exports to China, particularly from companies like Nvidia, pose a broader concern for the pace of AI development in the country. Baidu anticipates a potential consolidation of Chinese AI companies, particularly around leading large language models (LLMs), as competitors Alibaba and Tencent express their own anxieties regarding the impact of U.S. curbs on their cloud computing businesses.

In the face of a 2% year-on-year decline in Q3 AI cloud revenue, attributed to weak demand in smart transportation projects, Baidu remains optimistic about positive growth in Q4. The company attributes this optimism to the increasing demand for generative AI services.

The Ernie Bot ecosystem, a significant focus for Baidu, has gained remarkable traction since its March launch. Accumulating 70 million users within three months and handling tens of millions of queries daily, Ernie Bot positions itself as a formidable player in the AI landscape. Its success is particularly noteworthy as Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent all release competitors to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

While Baidu’s current revenue from generative AI is relatively modest, CEO Li is optimistic about the future. He forecasts that generative AI products will contribute significantly to ad revenue in the fourth quarter, emphasizing a strategic realignment of resources to invest further in AI growth opportunities and move away from lower-priority efforts.

In the broader market context, Baidu’s revenue growth aligns with China’s overall economic projections, expected to grow by 5.4% this year. This growth prompts increased spending on consumer advertising online, a boon for Baidu, which primarily derives revenue from advertising.

OpenAI Drama Unfolds Amidst AGI Progress and Safety Concerns

OpenAI, the leading player in the pursuit of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), found itself embroiled in controversy with the sudden dismissal of CEO Sam Altman. Despite Altman’s reinstatement, reports indicate that his initial removal stemmed from board disagreements over AGI safeguards, honesty concerns, and worries about hastening the release of AI products to market without sufficient safety precautions.

Speculation is rife regarding OpenAI’s AGI progress, with unnamed sources suggesting that researchers may be closer to achieving AGI than publicly disclosed. The board’s worry over Altman’s alleged haste in capitalizing on ChatGPT’s success for new AI products, possibly linked to AGI, adds a layer of complexity to the unfolding drama.

The definition of AGI itself has evolved within OpenAI, from tasks teachable to humans to surpassing human capabilities in economically valuable domains. Transparency has reportedly declined since the release of GPT-2 in 2019, with an increase in secrecy surrounding model details, potentially tied to AGI development.

The implications of AGI are profound, requiring global collaboration to address risks and mitigation efforts. Concerns loom over job displacement and social upheaval, with the potential concentration of power in the hands of the wealthy once AGI arrives.

When Altman was fired, the majority of OpenAI’s 700 employees threatened to quit unless existing board members resigned, and Altman was reinstated. Before Altman’s dismissal, staff researchers sent a warning letter to the board about a powerful AI discovery, potentially linked to the Q* project.

Q* is seen as a breakthrough in the quest for AGI, showcasing remarkable mathematical problem-solving abilities with significant computing resources. The letter flagged the prowess and potential dangers of AI without specifying safety concerns.

The Q* project and the warning letter were cited as contributing factors in Altman’s firing, with Mira Murati, a long-time executive, mentioning the project to employees. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed Murati’s communication but did not comment on the accuracy of the reports.

Altman’s leadership in propelling ChatGPT’s success and his tantalizing tease about AGI being in sight at a gathering of world leaders in San Francisco add context to the significance of the Q* project. The board’s decision to terminate Altman, strategically timed a day after his public mention of AGI’s progress, has sent shockwaves through the tech industry, marking an unprecedented news cycle with potential links to AGI safety concerns.

As the OpenAI saga continues to unfold, the tech world braces for the impact of this dramatic turn of events, pondering the future of AGI and the organization at the forefront of its development.

Instagram’s Latest Update Lets You Download Reels Instantly

Social media addiction is increasing day by day. Many of us spend a significant amount of our day watching videos on platforms like Reels, TikTok, and Shorts. However, this habit can lead to both anxiety in scenarios where we don’t have internet access and running out of data for our internet packages. The solution is now quite simple: Instagram Reels download. Here are the details…

Instagram Introduces the Reels Download Feature!

According to a post by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, Instagram is gaining a Reels download feature. As per Mosseri, this feature will offer a download option similar to YouTube Premium. Users who wish to do so can access and watch videos through the app even without an internet connection.

The Instagram Reels download feature is quite similar to the download feature that comes with YouTube Premium, as mentioned earlier. Instead of taking up space in your gallery, the videos are saved in a dedicated area within the app. This way, you can access the downloaded videos from there when you are offline or don’t want to use your data.

This feature will particularly benefit those who collect their favorite Reels in the saved section. Unfortunately, despite Mosseri’s statement, this feature has not been rolled out globally yet. It will likely take a few days for this process to complete, so we cannot show you the screenshots we have taken.

In fact, the company had started allowing Reels downloads to users in the United States back in June, and now it is beginning to roll out this feature to users worldwide. Of course, the Instagram Reels download feature has also brought copyright debates. Instagram’s initial solution to this issue is to mute the sound during the download of videos with copyrighted music.

However, another issue is people stealing others’ videos. YouTube and TikTok address this problem by adding a watermark logo during the download. This way, users watching the video on other platforms can see the original video owner’s name. Of course, this doesn’t mean that people won’t make an extra effort to download the video from somewhere else.

Still, Instagram, like YouTube and TikTok, needs to protect content creators by not directly providing this convenience to content thieves.

Europe’s EV Registrations Exceed Diesel Sign-ups, Indicating a Shift in the Market

Europe’s car market is undergoing a huge transformation. For the first time, new registrations of electric vehicles (EVs) in the European Union have overtaken those of diesel cars. This change indicates a growing preference for cleaner, battery-powered transportation over traditional diesel vehicles, once the mainstay of European roads.

Battery-electric car registrations jumped by more than 36% compared to 2022

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) reported that from January to October, EV registrations soared, positioning them as the third most popular vehicle type in the EU, following gasoline and hybrid cars. Notably, in October alone, battery-electric car registrations jumped by 36.3% compared to the previous year, marking a significant uptick in EV popularity.

Electric

This surge in EV registrations is a clear indicator of the changing landscape of the automotive industry in Europe. With a 53.1% increase in new EVs registered, totaling 1.2 million units, and achieving a 14% market share in the first ten months of the year, EVs are rapidly becoming a mainstream choice for European drivers.

In stark contrast, diesel-powered cars, which once dominated the European market with a 50% share in 2015, have seen a dramatic decline. Their market share has plummeted to just 12% this year, from 15.9% in the previous year. This decrease is a telling sign of the shifting preferences of consumers who are increasingly opting for more environmentally friendly vehicles.

Hybrids, too, are enjoying a rise in popularity with 2.2 million new registrations, a 29.8% increase from last year. However, plug-in hybrids are experiencing a dip in demand.

Gasoline-powered cars, while still leading in overall registrations, have seen a slight contraction in their market share. This trend, coupled with the rise of EVs and hybrids, signals a gradual but definite move away from traditional fuel sources.

The transition towards electric and hybrid vehicles aligns with broader environmental goals. The European Union Parliament’s decision to ban the sale of all new cars producing carbon dioxide emissions from 2035 underscores this commitment to a more sustainable future.

Notable for its compact size and light weight, the motor delivers power smoothly and quietly, enhancing the cycling experience without overwhelming it. The motor, combined with a 250-watt-hour battery, extendable to 500-watt-hours, ensures that riders can cover significant distances without worrying about running out of power.

The technological sophistication of the X20 extends beyond the motor. The Mahle X20 Control Unit, integrated into the bike’s frame, allows cyclists to easily monitor their ride’s key aspects. This feature, coupled with the My SmartBike app, offers GPS navigation, speed tracking, and battery management, ensuring a seamless and connected riding experience.

The X20 series also doesn’t compromise on aesthetics or performance. The gravel version features a carbon fiber frame and fork, internal cable routing, and premium components like a Shimano GRX 600 or Campagnolo EKAR 13-speed drivetrain. Meanwhile, the urban model offers a sleek design with a Pinion nine-speed gearbox and a Gates Carbon Drive CDX, providing a quiet and low-maintenance ride.

With a starting price of $5,995, the Desiknio X20 series is an investment in cutting-edge cycling technology. The bikes, available through a partnership with Stromer, promise to bring a new level of biking experience to American cyclists, blending the lines between performance, technology, and style.

Google’s Attempt to Acquire Epic Games Before Stadia’s Fall

Google Stadia might be one of the biggest failures in recent years. The project, launched with high hopes by the company, had significant potential despite being derailed by poor decisions and unfortunate events. However, recent information has revealed another reason for its failure. Google did not plan Stadia well enough, as its original goal was to acquire Epic Games. Here are the details…

Google’s Unsuccessful Attempt to Acquire Epic Games Ahead of Stadia

Google and Epic Games are currently engaged in a legal dispute. Google’s alleged anticompetitive behavior in the Android app market is the central issue in the antitrust lawsuit. However, it seems that the relationship between the two companies has not always been adversarial. Interestingly, if everything had gone smoothly, they might not even be two separate companies today. This is because Google attempted to acquire Epic Games in 2018.

Google Stadia Controller

Google has been seeking a foothold in the gaming industry for quite some time. Already a dominant force in the realm of mobile games, the company aimed to extend its influence to AAA-quality PC and console games. Documents revealed in the Epic Games case indicate that before the Stadia project mentioned earlier, Google had considered acquiring Epic Games. The company contemplated investing up to $2 billion to secure a 20% stake in Epic.

Furthermore, the company took this idea a step further by engaging in discussions with Tencent. According to the plan, the two entities would acquire Epic Games and establish a partnership. However, what deterred the company from this project were potential regulatory hurdles. Additionally, the Tencent partnership posed its own set of challenges.

After careful consideration, Google decided against pursuing the acquisition, allowing Epic to remain an independent company. The outcome would have been uncertain had the company continued, but one thing is certain: it would have been better than the current situation. Now, Stadia has come to an end, and Google has completely withdrawn from the cloud gaming platform business.
