Xiaomi 13 Ultra will not launch in India and Indonesia

Update:

The source (Kacper Skrzypek) now says that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra may launch in Japan though there’s not a MIUI firmware build for the region. This could be possible as Redmi 12C is sold in the region without a Japan-specific MIUI build.

On the other hand, he is 100% sure that the smartphone will not release in India, Indonesia, and Turkey.

Original Story:

Earlier today, Xiaomi revealed that it would unveil the much-awaited Xiaomi 13 Ultra this month. The company even confirmed that the smartphone would also be available globally.

Now, a reliable source discloses that the device will be limited to certain international markets. It will not be released in several regions where the company had previously sold Mi 11 Ultra.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra review 13
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and Xiaomi 12S Ultra

According to MIUI tipster Kacper Skrzypek, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will not launch in India, Indonesia, Turkey, and Japan. There are no MIUI firmware builds for these regions.

The device has only five MIUI builds, and they are China, Global, EEA, Russia, and Taiwan. This means apart from the brand’s home market, the phone will be only sold in a select few Western countries.

This means interested customers in other regions will have to import the handset. It is worth noting that, unlike Apple, Xiaomi does not offer international warranties and repairs on its products. So importing an expensive smartphone is not recommended for most people.

As per leaks, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will be powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, as the vanilla and Pro models. But it will arrive with an even better Leica-powered camera system.

The phone is said to feature a 32MP front-facing camera and four 50MP cameras on the rear with wide, ultra-wide, telephoto, and periscope lenses. The primary sensor will be a 1-inch Sony IMX989, while the remaining three will be Sony IMX858.

The handset will arrive with up to 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. Finally, it will boot Android 13-based MIUI 14 and will carry support for 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Windows Insiders Receive Free USB Drives from Microsoft for Smooth Windows 11 Installations

Microsoft’s Windows Insiders program members were in for a treat when the company announced that they would be receiving free USB drives to perform clean installs of Windows 11. These drives are now arriving in some users’ mailboxes ahead of the originally estimated shipping time of six to eight weeks. Here are the details…

Windows Insiders Get USB Drives for Windows 11 Clean Installs Sooner Than Expected

A Twitter user named Noah posted a picture of his USB drive, which proudly displays the Windows Insider logo. Noah shared that the drive offers a spacious 64GB of storage. It appears that Microsoft is delivering these drives faster than previously thought.

The decision to send out these USB drives came when Microsoft introduced the Canary Channel. Insiders using the Dev build were automatically updated to the Canary Channel, requiring a clean install of Windows 11 for those who wanted to remain on the Dev builds. These drives make it easier for users to perform the installation.

Microsoft’s prompt delivery of the USB drives demonstrates its commitment to the Windows Insiders program and its desire to provide a seamless transition for users who prefer to stay with the Dev builds. This move not only simplifies the installation process but also enhances user experience and satisfaction.

As more Windows Insiders receive their USB drives, it’s likely that the number of clean Windows 11 installs will increase, expanding the Dev channel’s user base. The community’s reaction to the new features and updates in the operating system is yet to be seen, but the quick delivery of these drives is a positive sign for the Windows Insiders program.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series saw 1.4 times higher sales than S22 in India

Samsung has just announced earlier today that its latest generation of flagship smartphones, the “Galaxy S23 series is cruising” in major markets. The company claimed that it has set a new sales record that has surpassed even its predecessors.

Back in February, the South Korean tech giant had stated that the pre-orders for its Galaxy S23 series was higher than the Galaxy S22 series from last year. Furthermore, 60 percent of the people pre-ordering the S23 models opted for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The company has also added that the S23 series have recorded higher sales across the globe as well. Apparently, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 lineup have seen higher sales of up to 70 percent year on year globally for 47 days after the launch.

Samsung

The brand added that the sales of the Galaxy S23 series was around 1.4 times higher than the sales of the Galaxy S22 series in the Indian market. On the other hand, the company saw sales around 1.5 times higher than its predecessor in the Middle Eastern and European market during this same period. In the company’s home market of South Korea, the Galaxy S23 series just recently had surpassed 1 million units in sales.

This was similar to the previous generation during the same period. Breaking down the overall sales of the Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy S23 Ultra alone accounted for 60 percent of all sales. In other words, its top end model was quite popular across the globe. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23+ and the base Galaxy S23 accounted for 20 percent respectively.

April 2023 security patch starts rolling out to some Google Pixel phones

Verizon has started rolling out the latest April 2023 security patch for Google’s Pixel 5, Pixel 4a, and Pixel 4a 5G. While users of these devices have not yet reported receiving the update, Verizon has posted the build numbers on its website, indicating that the rollout has begun. However, the support pages for other Pixel devices such as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 series still show the older March 2023 security patches.

Pixel 7

Google’s monthly security patches for its Pixel series are usually released on the first Monday of the month alongside the monthly Android Security Bulletin. However, for the second month in a row, Google has missed its self-set release schedule for Pixel security patches. Last month’s March 2023 patches were delivered two weeks later alongside the Pixel feature drop, and even then, the Pixel 6 series received its update after another week.

Despite Google’s silence on the reasons for the delay, Samsung has been prompt in delivering updates to its flagships, with the April 2023 security patch for the Galaxy S23 series already live and rolling out to users. This delay in delivering the security patch is likely to disappoint users who purchased a Pixel on the premise of quick software updates.

However, there was a surprise report last week about a Pixel 5 user in Canada on Freedom receiving the April patch before March had ended. While this may have been an isolated incident, it provides some hope that the security patches could arrive sooner than expected for other users.

Overall, it is important for Google to inform its users about the reasons for the delay in delivering the security patch and provide a realistic timeline for release. This will help alleviate concerns and maintain the trust of its user base, who value timely and reliable software updates.

From Slump to Surge: Laptop Market Faces Q1 Decline but Q2 Promises Revival

The global shipment of laptops is expected to decline by 13% in Q1 2023 to around 33.9 million units, due to various factors such as the continuing impact of the sluggish economy on consumer confidence, rising inflation, and reduction in corporate expenditures. The pandemic’s lingering effects have affected the consumer market, resulting in a decrease in the progress of selling laptops in the channel. As a result, brands are reducing their orders from OEMs to manage inventory pressure. In addition, Q1 2023 is expected to see a 39% decline in shipments compared to the same period last year.

Galaxy Book 3 Series
Galaxy Book 3 Series

However, things are looking up for Q2 2023. The inventory pressure of notebook computers and components is expected to ease, resulting in a month-on-month increase in demand for channel replenishment. The shipment of laptops is estimated to rise to 37.63 million units in Q2 2023, representing an 11% increase from the previous quarter. However, even with this improvement, the shipment of laptops in Q2 2023 is still expected to be 18% lower than the same period last year.

Although the peak season promotions in the second half of 2023 could have a positive impact on the market, the annual decline rate of global notebook shipments is expected to converge at 13% in 2023 due to various factors. Nevertheless, the upcoming COMPUTEX Taipei Computer Show in May 2023 is expected to expand the consumer base for new graphics cards and increase demand. The rising popularity of AI and high-performance e-sports and creator models may also drive the market, albeit as a niche product.

Samsung may introduce next-gen Galaxy SmartTag and Galaxy Buds 3 this year

Samsung is rumored to be launching the next iteration of its Galaxy SmartTag tracker later this year, and reports suggest that the new device will come with significant improvements across various features. The second-generation SmartTag is said to have a longer wireless range, better security features to prevent unauthorized tracking, and a longer-lasting battery than its predecessor.

Galaxy SmartTag

One of the key criticisms of the original SmartTag was that it only worked with other Samsung products. There is no word yet on whether this exclusivity will continue with the new SmartTag. However, it is expected that the device will come with improved SmartThings integration to make it easier for users to track their belongings.

According to the Korean news outlet Naver, Samsung is planning to unveil the new SmartTag at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in August. The event is also expected to feature the launch of other Samsung products, including the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Watch 6, and Galaxy Buds 3.

The Galaxy Buds 3 are another highly anticipated launch from Samsung. However, details on this updated generation of earbuds are currently scarce. It is unclear what improvements or new features Samsung has in store for the Galaxy Buds 3.

Meanwhile, Google is also reportedly planning to launch its own smart tracker, codenamed “grogu,” at its annual developer conference, Google I/O, in May. The move is expected to intensify competition in the smart tracker market.

Apple Files a Patent for a HomePod Camera for Facial Recognition

The Apple HomePod is a smart speaker designed and developed by Apple Inc. It was first released in February 2018 and features Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, which can be used to control the speaker and interact with other devices in the home. The HomePod was designed to produce high-quality audio and can adapt its sound output based on the environment it’s placed in. It also has the ability to connect with other HomePods in the home to create a multi-room audio system. In a lot of ways, the Apple HomePod is similar to the Amazon Alexa and Google Home ecosystem.

Homepod

The latest news from IT Home states that Apple has obtained a technical patent for its HomePod from the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO). The patent sketch reveals that a camera has been added to the HomePod, which provides users with easier control over their smart home devices. According to the patent description, the purpose of the camera is not for video calls or security monitoring, but for facial recognition to identify the person in the room making a request to the HomePod. Based on the user’s request, the HomePod provides personalized and simplified control over their smart home devices.

Apple recognizes that remembering the names of multiple devices can be a pain point for users, and their patent aims to simplify the process by allowing users to issue commands like “turn on that light,” with the camera identifying the light that needs to be activated based on the user’s gaze. Automating this simple feature will allow the Homepod to distinguish itself from other smart speakers in the segment. Also, it is worth noting that this is still a patent, so it might be a while before Apple actually decides to incorporate this into a future HomePod.

Sony is reportedly working on a new handheld gaming console called the Q Lite, according to recent reports by Insider Gaming. The device is said to be another addition to the PlayStation family and will be reliant on the PlayStation 5 for its functionality.

The Q Lite is expected to use Remote Play, a feature that Sony has been promoting lately, to stream games from the PS5 to the handheld device. With the ability to stream up to 1080p and 60 frames per second, it’s set to provide an impressive gaming experience. According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, Sony’s upcoming game lineup will be a key part of this second phase, alongside new hardware products such as wireless earphones and headsets, and the highly anticipated Q Lite handheld device.

As for the PS5 Pro, it is expected to be released during the holiday season of 2024, giving gamers plenty of time to enjoy the current PS5 and any new hardware releases in the meantime.

The value of phones depreciates over time due to several reasons. Technology is constantly advancing, which means that newer models with better features are released regularly. As a result, older models become outdated and less desirable, leading to a decrease in their value. Also, wear and tear is a natural process that occurs with daily use of a phone. Scratches, dents, and other damages can reduce a phone’s value significantly, even though that might differ from device to device. The availability of newer and more advanced technologies at lower prices also affects the value of older models. Finally, market demand also plays a crucial role in determining the value of a phone. As newer models are released, the demand for older models decreases, leading to a decrease in their value. Speaking of newer models, the Samsung Galaxy S23 was launched a couple of months back, but in a short period of time, the value of the device has depreciated by 43.3 percent, which is almost 1.5 times more than the iPhone 14.

Galaxy S23

The latest data reveals that the Samsung Galaxy S23 has lost 43.3% of its value for a phone in “like new” condition, after just two months post-launch. While this may seem like a significant depreciation, it’s important to note that it’s a notable improvement from its predecessor, the S22, which lost three times its value compared to the iPhone 13 in the same timeframe. The iPhone 14 series, on the other hand, has proven to be the best performer, with an average depreciation of 31.0% after two months.

Unfortunately, Google’s Pixel 7 is the worst performer of the three ranges, losing 45.9% of its value across the range in just two months post-launch. The tech giant has attempted to counter this with a $150 discount on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, but this still means that the value of the smartphone suffers even more for those who paid MSRP at launch.

When looking at handsets in good condition, the results are similar to those in “like new” condition. The iPhone 14 range regains some of its lost value, with an average depreciation of 35.0% after two months, while the Galaxy S23 drops in value by 47.7%. Despite some improvements from Samsung, the iPhone still holds its value better than any other handset on the market.
