The Electric Vehicle (EV) price war started by Tesla in China has now affected the entire auto industry as investors and traders are abandoning Chinese automobile stocks. Investors fear that the Chinese automobile market will not revive quickly enough and the ongoing price war will further reduce profitability.
China which is the world’s largest automobile market is going through a sluggish economy. The zero covid policy which led to periodic lockdowns combined with Beijing’s crackdown on industries and the real estate crisis all led to the economic downturn in China. The ongoing US-China trade war, rising inflation, and impending global recession have also made consumers cautious and reluctant to invest.
To get back consumer interest, revive the demand, and capture the market, automobile companies in China are slashing their vehicle prices which has led to a fall in Chinese Automobile stocks. Last week BYD stocks fell 11 percent in Hong Kong and 7.8 percent in Shenzhen. Shares of famous Chinese EV makers like Li Auto, Nio, and Xpeng fell up to 15% and SAIC recorded a 6.7% fall in Shanghai.
Automobile Price War in China:
To revive the sluggish demand for EVs, Tesla first slashed its price in October 2022. The company reduced the prices of Model 3 and Model Y by as much as 9.4%. A second round of price cuts happened in January when the company cut prices for all versions of its China-made Model 3 and Model Y. The base variant of model 3 has been reduced by 13.5% while the starting price for Model Y has been slashed by 10%.
Following the price cut, Tesla saw an increase in sales which then led BYD the world’s biggest EV maker to slash its price. The price war which started with Tesla and BYD affected many domestic and international players who then joined the battle. Last week, premium automobile companies like BMW and Mercedes and domestic companies like SAIC and Guangzhou Automobile reduced their vehicle prices in order to revive consumer demand.
Tesla reduced its prices somewhere between 6 to 13.5% and BYD reduced its price on the famous Dynasty series by up to 7% this year. However, the biggest discount was offered by the French automaker Citreon who slashed the price of its C6 model by almost 40%.
Wang Zheng, chief investment officer at Jingxi Investment said that the ongoing price war is a sign of weak consumer confidence. He further added that customers are not ready to spend as they expect a slow economic recovery. This in turn has caused investors to lose trust in the Chinese automobile industry.
LG has released the gram Style 2023 OLED thin and light notebook in China. The laptop has an OLED screen, a hidden touchpad, and two size options – 14- and 16-inch. The LG gram Style 2023 notebook series are using Samsung Display’s OLED panels after their debut with LG models last January.

The 16-inch model has a 3.2K OLED screen and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The hidden touchpad in the LG gram Style notebooks becomes visible when touched by the finger. That is when the invisible boundary line will be revealed and the shiny outline will be seen. The price of the LG gram Style 2023 OLED thin and light notebook series starts at 9,999 yuan (~$1,454). It is available in China from popular retail platforms like Jingdong. There are no details yet on the global availability of the new LG gram Style notebooks.
Xiaomi’s pace in delivering software updates has been slow and somewhat underwhelming. While other Chinese manufacturers have stepped up their update game in recent years, Xiaomi still has a lot of catching up to do. Anyways, the brand has been releasing stable Android 13-based MIUI 14 builds to a number of phones recently. And the latest device to get the software treat is the flagship Xiaomi 12 Pro. The handset is picking up the latest build of MIUI in India. Here are the details.
MIUI India announced through its official Twitter handle that Xiaomi 12 Pro units in India are now receiving the latest MIUI 14 update. Users of the smartphone should get an OTA notification for the update. Alternatively, they can manually check for the update by heading over to the Settings app and tapping About phone > MIUI version > Check for updates. It is possible that the software is being seeded in a phased manner, so it might take some to reach every user.
The company did not share the firmware number or the changelog of the update. We expect the software to bring all the new features included in the MIUI 14 global build as well as Android 13. It should come with a visual overhaul and offer users plenty of customization options. This includes the ability to remove objects from images and customize the home screen, app icons, and widgets. MIUI 14 also brings dual app support and allows users to take notes while reading with the help of the Sidebar feature.
MIUI 14 is claimed to be the lightest version of MIUI so far. Xiaomi says it uses 214 MB less boot-up memory in comparison to MIUI 13, giving you one of the fastest boot-up speeds ever on a Xiaomi device.
Earlier this month Apple followed the tradition of mid-cycle colour update for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. Both devices were announced in the Yellow colour option. They were up for pre-order last week. Now both smartphones are now available for purchase in India via leading e-commerce platforms and retail stores across the country. Additionally, Flipkart and Amazon are also offering the new colour option at a discounted price.
The new Yellow colour option of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus joins the existing Blue, Midnight, Purple, Starlight, and (Product) RED colour variants. The phone is only available in a new paint job. The rest of the key specifications, design as well as pricing remain the same.
The iPhone 14 starts at Rs 79,990 whereas the Plus variant starts at Rs 89,990 for the 128GB variant. The 256GB option carries a price tag of Rs 89,900 and Rs 99,900 respectively. Both Flipkart and Amazon are offering up to 8 percent instant discounts on the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. This makes the iPhone 14 128GB and 256GB available for Rs 72,999 and Rs 82,999 respectively. On the other hand, the Plus model’s same configurations cost Rs 81,999 and Rs 91,999. Itel is one of the three Transsion brands. It is not as popular as its sister brands Tecno and Infinix. Because it only deals with inexpensive handsets.
But the brand has a huge market share for the products it sells. Thus, it is not surprising to learn that it is gearing up to release yet another entry-level smartphone in India despite launching one recently.
It is set to introduce a sub ₹8,000 smartphone in India. This device is said to be backed by a 6,000mAh battery. Also, it will carry support for 18W fast charging.
Hence, it will be the first phone in this price segment with the aforementioned battery and charging specs. Further, it is also tipped to sport a 6.6-inch HD display.
Going by the features, this handset will be placed above the Itel A60 that was launched earlier this month in India. The A60 is priced at only ₹5,999 for the sole 2GB + 32GB memory configuration.
For that price, it offers a 6.6-inch HD display, a 5,000mAh battery, an 8MP main camera, a 5MP selfie camera, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, Unisoc SC9832E chipset, and Android 12 Go Edition.
This unknown Itel smartphone is said to break cover the by the end of this week. We are looking forward to learning its entire spec sheet and pricing.
Samsung Electronics is ready to mass produce its third-generation 4-nm chips, which is the main item in the foundry ultra-micro fabrication process sector, according to a report. The Korean company has apparently resolved early-stage yield issues and achieved advancements in performance, power consumption, and area improvement. Manufacturing should start during the first half of this year.
Samsung has improved the wafer yield of its new-generation chipsets, which was previously very low at the Hwaseong factory. This improvement has allowed Samsung to compete with other semiconductor companies, such as TSMC, and attract customers like Qualcomm who previously had to rely on TSMC’s 4nm platforms.
As per the report, Samsung Electronics will begin mass production of chips through a 4-nm 2.3-generation process in the first half of this year. In its business report released on March 12, the Korean tech giant announced the mass production schedule for its 4-nm follow-up version for the first time. Compared to the early version SF4E, the second and third-generation 4-nm chips offer superior performance, reduced power consumption, and smaller form factors.
Industry insiders suggest Samsung’s 4-nm process has 60 percent usable wafers. Notably, this yield is still not on par with that of TSMC, which is known to be in the 70-80 percent range. However, experts say that Samsung’s yield is improving rapidly and mass production of the follow-up version is also accelerating.
Samsung Electronics has made significant progress in addressing technical obstacles, such as enhancing performance and yields in advanced manufacturing processes. This should mean that the competition between Samsung and TSMC will intensify in the mass production of ultra-micro fabrication processes for 5-nm or more advanced chips.
With the increasing usage of smartphones, people are relying on them for communication, social media, gaming, and other activities, which has made alternative devices like laptops and TVs less necessary. As a result, the laptop and TV market has been on the decline (except during the pandemic) in many parts of the world. However, China appears to be an exception to this trend. In February, China’s TV market shipments reached a whopping 2.41 million units, with Xiaomi securing the second spot ahead of well-known brands like Sony and Samsung. Here are the details…
China’s TV Market Sees 26.8% YoY Increase in February, Xiaomi Climbs to Second Place
The Chinese TV market saw a surge in shipments in February 2023, with a total of 2.41 million units shipped, marking a 26.8% year-on-year increase. However, there was a 28.5% month-on-month decrease, which could be attributed to the Spring Festival holiday. In January and February, the total shipments amounted to 5.78 million units, representing a slight decline of 2.9% year-on-year.
The top seven traditional main brands in the Chinese TV market, including Xiaomi, Hisense, TCL, Skyworth, Changhong, Haier, and Konka, and their sub-brands, accounted for over 90% of the overall market in February. These brands saw a total of 2.22 million units shipped, a 30.7% year-on-year increase, but a 28.7% month-on-month decrease.
The first camp, which comprises brands with annual shipments of over 5 million units, saw total shipments of 1.87 million units, marking a 46% year-on-year increase but a 28% month-on-month decrease. Xiaomi, including its sub-brand Redmi, shipped 550,000 units in February, representing a 10% year-on-year increase.
Hisense, TCL, and Skyworth saw a significant increase in shipments in February, with a total of 1.32 million units shipped. Hisense’s sub-brand Vidda was the top-performing brand, shipping nearly 600,000 units, a 55% year-on-year increase.
The second camp, which includes brands with annual shipments of about 3 million units, saw a decline in shipments in February. The total shipments for Changhong, Konka, and Haier were about 350,000 units, marking a 15% year-on-year decline and a 30% month-on-month decrease.
Huawei’s shipments have been declining year-on-year since the fourth quarter of 2022, and there was no improvement in February 2023. The four major foreign brands, Sony, Samsung, Sharp, and Philips, shipped a total of about 100,000 units in February, marking a 15% year-on-year decrease.
Despite being a relatively new player in the market, Xiaomi ranked second in the overall market, beating out brands like Sony and Samsung. This could be attributed to Xiaomi’s focus on profitability and overseas expansion. The Chinese TV market continues to experience fluctuations, with some brands seeing growth while others struggle to maintain their market share.
OPPO is slated to unveil the Find X6 series in China later this month. There’s a possibility that the brand may also announce a new tablet at the same event. The upcoming offering will be dubbed the OPPO Pad 2 and it will arrive as the successor to the original Pad that debuted last year. Now, reliable Chinese tipster, Digital Chat Station has shared a schematic and some key details of the upcoming OPPO Pad 2.
The schematic shared by DCS reveals the OPPO Pad 2’s display with thin bezels. It is seen with a stylus and it will have a model number OPN2201 according to DCS. The upcoming tablet will also support a new ‘smart touch’ keyboard that remains a mystery. The schematic shows the keyboard with a trackpad and kickstand built-in. The image also has an OPPO Find X6 smartphone alongside the Pad 2 indicating that both devices may offer seamless connectivity with each other. The tipster states that the OPPO Pad 2 will offer a much more overall polished experience.
The latest information by DCS is solidified by a recent report that OPPO is planning to launch a smart touch keyboard and smart case. Notably, the brand never released a keyboard for the last year’s OPPO Pad and Air.
The OPPO Pad 2 surfaced on Geekbench earlier this month. It was listed with Snapdragon 888 SoC paired with 8GB RAM. A 3C certification revealed support for 67W fast charging and a 9,500mAh battery unit on the upcoming tablet. The Pad 2 is rumoured to come with an 11.6-inch display with 2.8K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate.
A new Huawei smartphone with model number GOA-AL80 has passed the national 3C quality certification. GOA-AL80 is believed to be part of the highly anticipated P60 series, according to the blogger “WHYLAB”. The blogger pointed out that GOA fits the abbreviation of Huawei’s P60 series codename La Gioconda Mona Lisa.
The GOA-AL80 4G model has been certified to support 20V 5A 100W fast charging which is manufactured by Guilin Kaifa Technology. The 100W fast-charging feature has not been seen before in Huawei’s P series and it is speculated the device is none other than P60 Pro.
The Huawei P60 series is set to launch at Huawei’s Spring Flagship New Product Launch Conference, which is scheduled for March 23.
Huawei P60 Pro will reportedly be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with a 6.6-inch 2K BOE OLED display and LPDDR5X+UFS4.0 memory capabilities. The device also sports a third telephoto camera with a 64MP OV64B Omnivision sensor with 3.5x optical zoom.
The Huawei P60 series is expected to have at least three models: the P60, P60 Pro, and P60 Artist Design Edition. It is worth noting that the Huawei P50, which was released in 2021, supports up to 66W fast charging.
Huawei’s nova 10 Pro is currently the only model that supports 100W fast charging and can fully charge its 4500mAh battery in just 20 minutes. With the launch of the Huawei P60 Pro, the P series will finally be able to take advantage of this ultra-fast charging technology.
Apart from the P60 series, Huawei’s Spring Flagship New Product Launch Conference will also showcase other exciting products such as the folding display flagship Huawei Mate X3.
After months of wait, Google is finally rolling out a 5G support software update for its compatible devices in India. The update is a part of the search giant’s March Pixel feature drop. This means that with the latest software version, Pixel 7, 7 Pro, and Pixel 6a users can now experience and enjoy the latest-generation cellular network.
While 5G was launched in October last year, a host of OEMs finished the rollout of the 5G support update for their devices by December. With the latest Pixel March feature drop update, the Pixel 7, 7 Pro, and Pixel 6a are now compatible with 5G networks on Indian carriers such as Airtel and Jio. Pixel users on Twitter also confirmed about the same.
The March Pixel feature drop update weighs 457MB in size. Users need to download and install this on their devices. Additionally, users need to ensure that they use Airtel or Jio SIM on their compatible Pixel device as Vi and BSNL do not support 5G in India. To activate 5G go to Settings > Tap on Network and Internet > Choose a SIM that supports 5G and tap on Network preferences. It will then show three options – 5G, LTE, and 3G out of which 5G is to be selected.
Apart from the 5G support update, the March Pixel feature drop update also brings features like night sight, magic eraser, health connect, and direct call features to older Pixel devices. It also allows users to enable 2 eSIMs simultaneously on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro without using a physical SIM, however, this is only compatible with select carriers or networks.

If you’ve read some of the latest reviews of smart bands or smartwatches, you should be able to find similar questions in the comments: “Can it measure blood pressure?” “Can I use this smart band to measure my blood pressure?”. Yes, as a wearable smart device, many smartwatches have personal health monitoring as a major selling point. With the miniaturization of sensors, many smartwatches already support heart rate and blood-oxygen measurement, and even ECG functions, but for the more than 100 million people plagued by high blood pressure, there are few truly miniaturized wearable devices on the market to easily measure blood pressure. With the arrival of YHE BP Doctor Pro, a smartwatch with built-in blood pressure monitoring, people suffering from specific diseases have a super convenient option.
Unboxing and design
The packaging of the YHE BP Doctor Pro is very simple, the black box has only a logo and some brief information about the watch. The model we have is a black variant.
The accessories are pretty much the same as what comes in a normal smartwatch package. We have a quick guide, an instruction manual, a charging dock, a USB cable and a measurement strap. This strap is the only one that stands out from the accessories.
The watch has an oval body, made of integrated stainless steel, with 2.5D glass covering the top of the screen. The strap is a bit different from a normal watch, with an inflatable cuff attached to one side of the wristband to measure blood pressure.
On the right side of the watch, there are two physical buttons: the power button and the home button.
At the button, we can see an optical sensor module to measure heart rate and oxygen saturation, next to it are four metal contacts for charging with the dock.
YHE BP Doctor Pro is equipped with a 1.41-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 360X320, its display is as clear and vivid as the latest smartwatches, and the response speed is fast enough for daily operation.
Initial Setup
Before you start the initial setup for the watch, you should scan the QR code on the quick guide to download the BP Doctor Plus APP, when you set up the watch for the first time, it will automatically start Bluetooth pairing. You can see the watch waiting to be paired on the APP: click to confirm and then the pairing is done.
System UI
YHE BP Doctor Pro has three default dials (watch faces). You can long press the touch screen to switch dials. I like the most original one, it looks like a mechanical watch. More stylish alternatives are in the dial market of the app.
When you press the home button, you will enter a scrolling menu. On the first page, you can see some features of health monitoring, including BP(Blood pressure), SpO2(Blood-Oxygen) and HR (Heart rate). Scroll down and more useful functions will appear, such as workouts and sleep.
Press the button once more to go back to the home page. Swipe inward in four different directions to access four different pages, including Control Center, Notification Center, Activity Log, and Health Monitoring. Or the wearer can continue to swipe right to access the pages of HR and SpO2.
BP measurement
It’s time to explain how this measuring tape works. Before using the BP Doctor Pro to measure your blood pressure, make sure it’s properly on your wrist. For this you should place the tape about two finger widths from your wrist, you can see there are a total of 16 numbers on the tape when the tape fits my arm perfectly, the number the arrow points to is 5, so I should choose the fifth hole on the wristband.
The YHE BP Doctor Pro is probably the most convenient way to measure blood pressure, you can swipe right into the BP interface and click Start to complete a measurement, please note that before starting the measurement raise your arm until it is at the same level as your heart, the whole process is similar to the traditional measurement method, the air cuff will gradually expand and then calculate the systolic and diastolic blood pressure through the sensor.
Since I don’t have any other blood pressure measuring device, there’s no way to prove the accuracy of the data. But I saw a very close figure on my medical report last month, so I think it’s still credible enough in the way it’s measured and the results.
You can see exactly where your blood pressure is on the app, and luckily for me, it’s in a fairly balanced and healthy state.
As a home-assisted medical device, it may be shared by the consumer with other family members, so to ensure that the owner’s BP data is not interfered with, there is also a guest mode for temporary measurements for others.
Extended Health Monitoring
In addition to measuring BP, YHE BP Doctor Pro can also measure and record your HR and SpO2 as well as track your sleep status. By monitoring the daily data, you can better manage your personal health or get a more immediate and informative reference in the treatment of specific diseases.
Other Features
In addition to the groundbreaking BP measurement feature, the YHE BP Doctor Pro also has those features found on mainstream smartwatches, allowing you to check the weather, calculate your daily calorie consumption, set alarms, and more.
The watch also supports workouts, though it does support too few workouts with the current firmware version compared to a typical smartwatch, and doesn’t have built-in GPS, though that makes sense considering his target audience should be using it at home in most cases.
Battery life and charging
YHE BP Doctor Pro is equipped with a 170mAh Li-ion battery. According to my experience, it can achieve three days of use with all functions at default settings and two BP measurements per day, I think its battery life is acceptable, with the dock, it can be fully charged within 90 minutes.
Conclusion
The YHE BP Doctor Pro is a groundbreaking wearable designed for a specific group of people. It makes a lot of sense to put a blood pressure measurement device into a watch. For those with mobility issues, even though there are already much small blood pressure measuring devices on the market, they still need to be taken out from somewhere and put back on your arm each time you use it, but the YHE BP Doctor Pro truly allows you to take your blood pressure alone without moving a step and share the results with your family or friends for immediate help. The only improvement I expected was the battery life, while three days of use actually is reasonable for such a smartwatch. If it could achieve a longer battery life, it would provide more convenience for those with limited mobility.
OPPO Find X6 series is set to debut in China later this month. The Find X6 Pro was spotted recently in multiple leaked live images. It also appeared on Geekbench benchmarking platform yesterday. The device’s Geekbench listing revealed that it will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor coupled with 16GB RAM and run on Android 13 OS out of the box. Leaks also suggest that the upcoming offering will feature a 6.8-inch E6 AMOLED display bearing a 2K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and 10-bit colours. The DualSense controllers that launched with the Sony PlayStation 5 was widely considering to be one of the best ever controllers on gaming consoles. However, despite its praises, it still had some fair share of its own issues with an annoying one being the lack of wireless software update support. But it appears that one of the latest updates have seemingly fixed this.
In the recent past, one would basically have to plug in their DualSense controllers to update it. But now, it appears that the Japanese tech giant has found a work around for this and the controllers now support being updated wirelessly. This was a major complaints for a number of PS5 users, so it is a welcomed quality of life upgrade. So you don’t need to worry about needing wires over the various firmware updates that Sony constantly rolls out.
For those unaware, the company often releases software update for its PlayStation 5 console with various and improvements. This was also reflected on the updates for the DualSense controllers. Thus, one needed to rely on a USB cable to update their controllers. Interestingly enough, Sony’s rival Microsoft had also recently updated its own controllers to allow users to sell Xbox controllers wirelessly.
So, it means that Sony is paying attention to its customer base and their feedback. Notably, this change arrived in the major software update for the PS5 that the company recently released, which brought various improvements as well as support for the popular VoIP app that is beloved by gamers called Discord.
India is reportedly planning to introduce new security rules that would force smartphone manufacturers to allow the removal of pre-installed apps and mandate screening of major operating system updates. The rules are being considered amid concerns about spying and abuse of user data. The move could extend launch timelines in the world’s second-largest smartphone market and lead to losses in business from pre-installed apps for players including Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Apple.

The Indian government is considering the new rules to ensure that pre-installed apps are not weak security points that could be exploited by foreign nations, including China, said a senior government official. The government has ramped up scrutiny of Chinese businesses since a 2020 border clash between the two nations, banning more than 300 Chinese apps, including TikTok.
Under the new rules, smartphone makers will have to provide an uninstall option for pre-installed apps, and new models will be checked for compliance by a lab authorized by the Bureau of Indian Standards agency. The government is also considering mandating screening of every major operating system update before it is rolled out to consumers.
India’s fast-growing smartphone market is dominated by Chinese players, with Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo accounting for almost half of all sales, while Samsung has a 20% share and Apple has 3%. The companies and India’s IT ministry have not responded to a Reuters request for comment.
However, the new rules could pose challenges for smartphone manufacturers, particularly for those that sell their devices with proprietary apps or pre-install others with which they have monetization agreements. Some industry executives have expressed concerns that more testing could prolong approval timelines for smartphones and hinder a company’s go-to-market strategy. Nonetheless, the Indian government has decided to give smartphone makers a year to comply with the new rules once they come into effect, the date for which has not been fixed yet.
Rivian is apparently in discussions with Amazon to make changes to its exclusivity clause in its deal for electric delivery trucks. The EV maker is seeking to adjust the exclusivity deal to bring in new customers. So let’s have a look.
A company spokesperson stated earlier this week that it is seeking to remove the exclusivity part of the agreement with the e-commerce giant. This would allow it to bring in new customers and clients that will enable it to ramp up production of its vans and its R1 series of pickup and SUV models. Furthermore, the brand is even working on a successor to the R1 series with the R2 model.
However, Rivian is still in need of money and the company is currently planning to raise 1.3 billion US Dollars. This would be done by a sale of convertible notes to help fund the R2 development and its subsequent launch. The company’s spokeswoman Marina Norville said in a statement that the company’s relationship with Amazon will still go strong and remains positive. She stated that “We continue to work closely together, and are navigating a changing economic climate, similar to many companies”.
For those unaware, Rivian and Amazon had entered into an agreement back in 2019 which would have the former deliver 100,000 electric trucks to the e-commerce giant. With these new electric delivery trucks, Amazon began delivery its packages with the new EVs and Rivian revealed last month that its vans have delivered over 10 million packages since its initial roll out.
