Samsung has recently made a significant change to its branding in Japan. As of February 28th, the company’s online store and social media platforms will no longer go by the name “Galaxy” but rather, will bear the Samsung name. This move has brought Japan in line with the rest of the world, where Samsung has always been recognized under its original brand name.
This move marks a shift away from the company’s decision in 2015 to distance itself from its corporate branding in Japan, as it adopted the “Galaxy” name for its products and services in a bid to better compete with its rival, Apple. The political tensions between Japan and South Korea at that time also played a role in this decision, as Samsung was cautious not to use its real name in the country.
However, with the changing times, Samsung now appears to be comfortable enough to embrace its original brand name in Japan once again. Customers can now request assistance from Samsung’s customer care centers, which were previously labeled as “Galaxy Customer Centers.” The Galaxy S23 series has also been rebranded to include the Samsung name, allowing customers in Japan to enjoy the same level of service and support as other customers around the world.
To celebrate this milestone, Samsung’s rebranded online shop is offering special deals on its Galaxy Care service, which interestingly has not been rebranded as Samsung Care. This move demonstrates Samsung’s renewed confidence in its brand identity and its commitment to providing customers in Japan with the same high-quality products and services as those enjoyed by customers across the globe.

Redmi Watch 3 Lite SIRIM
According to the SIRIM listing, the Redmi M2247W1 smartwatch is called the Redmi Watch lite. The listing does not reveal any further information, however, it is clear that Realme is gearing up to launch the smartwatch globally in the coming days.
Last month, the Redmi Watch 3 Lite was spotted on the EEC certification website with a 2.87V Polymer Li-ion built-in battery along with support for Bluetooth v5. From the previous NRRA listing, we know that the Redmi Watch 5 Lite has a rectangular dial, will feature a single button on the side, and will also have detachable straps.

Located at the bottom of the device are a heart rate sensor and a magnetic charging port. It appears that the wearable does not include a microphone, indicating the absence of a Bluetooth calling function. Let’s take a look at the Redmi Watch 3 to get an idea of what to expect from the Lite version.
Redmi Watch 3 specs
The Redmi Watch 3, which launched back in December boasts a 1.75-inch AMOLED display with a square dial, offering an HD resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. It has a peak brightness of 600 nits. It is waterproof up to a depth of 50 meters and features a button on the right side.

TikTok, one of the most popular short video social media platforms, has announced that users under the age of 18 will have a one-hour screen time limit by default. This is one of the most aggressive moves by the Chinese giant in an effort to reduce criticism about teens’ endlessly scrolling the platform’s feed.
When the 60-minute or one-hour time limit is reached, then the user will be prompted to enter a passcode on the device to continue scrolling through the videos on the platform. This will create a sort of barrier to endless scrolling and bolster the digital wellbeing of young users.
Cormac Keenan, TikTok’s head of trust and safety, said that the company consulted researchers and experts from the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital to decide the time limits to set for teen users. He added, “While there’s no collectively-endorsed position on how much screen time is ‘too much’, or even the impact of screen time more broadly, we recognize that teens typically require extra support as they start to explore the online world independently.”
While the one-hour screen time limit feature will be enabled by default in TikTok’s mobile application, the user will be able to disable this new feature from the app’s settings. Nonetheless, it’s a good move from the company to enable the feature by default and have the user take action to disable the feature.
TikTok has also updated the Family Pairing feature, which allows parent or guardian to link their TikTok account to and set controls. They can also filter videos with words or hashtags, set a custom daily screen time limit, and set a custom schedule to mute TikTok notifications.
The development comes at a time when TikTok, as well as other social media platforms, have been facing scrutiny over the impact of prolonged usage of such platforms, especially on young users. Further, TikTok’s parent company is also facing pressure from the US government and others over concerns about security because of the company’s ties in China.
On March 7, the OnePlus Ace 2V will be unveiled in China. To keep its audience intrigued, the company has been using its Weibo account to confirm the phone’s significant features. The company has already confirmed that the Ace 2V has the Dimensity 9000 chipset and large heat dissipation. In a Weibo poster, the company confirmed that it has LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Li Jie Louis, the president of OnePlus China, also shared a poster that showed the Ace 2V’s basic and best configurations (via. TechGoing).
In contrast to other mid-range phones in the market, the OnePlus Ace 2V’s base variant will have 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and the company has confirmed that it will not be offering an 8GB+128GB configuration. This information was released by the company on its Weibo account. Additionally, the highest configuration of the phone will have 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It is unclear whether the Ace 2V will be offered in other configurations.
The OnePlus Ace 2, which was launched in China in February and is powered by Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, also comes in 12GB + 256GB and 16GB + 256GB configurations.
It is likely that the Ace 2V with the Dimensity 9000 chipset will be positioned lower than the Ace 2. The Ace 2’s base model is priced at 2,799 Yuan (~$407). This has sparked speculation that the base model of the Ace 2V could be priced at CNY 2,399 (~$349).
Reports have revealed that the OnePlus Ace 2V has a 6.74-inch OLED screen with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The device will have a 5,000mAh battery with 100W charging. The Ace 2V will also come with a 16-megapixel front camera and OIS-enabled 64-megapixel triple rear cameras. The device will ship with OxygenOS 13-based Android 13 OS.
It seems that the global market will not be getting the Ace 2V. Instead, the phone will be rebranded as the OnePlus Nord 3 for the global market, according to recent leaks. The Nord 3 is rumored to be announced in July.

Recent rumours say that Vivo is making a new tablet to replace the Vivo Pad, which came out in April 2022. A reliable source, Digital Chat Station, says that this new tablet, which is likely to be called the Vivo Pad 2, will have the Dimensity 9000 chipset. This is the same chipset that will likely run the OnePlus Pad and the OPPO Pad 2 when they come out. Unfortunately, there are no other specifications available at this time.
It is believed that the Vivo Pad 2 will be released alongside two other devices, the Vivo X Fold 2 and the Vivo X Flip, at an event in April this year. The Vivo X Fold 2 is expected to be the first foldable phone to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, while the Vivo X Flip is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset.

It remains to be seen what other features and specifications the Vivo Pad 2 will have. However, it is expected to be a worthy successor to the original Vivo Pad.
One of the most prominent aspects of Android phones is their open structure. Manufacturers continue to work and collaborate in different areas to offer a more unique experience on their phones through the agreements they make. Recently, the CEO of Nothing received an offer on Twitter about potential collaborations in this area.
Fleksy Approaches Nothing for Customized Keyboard
Recently, Carl Pei founder of Nothing tweeted about the Mobile World Congress currently taking place in Barcelona, saying, “MWC was so much more fun 5 years ago!” Olivier, CEO of Fleksy, replied to the tweet, suggesting that they meet outside the MWC. He proposed to power the custom Nothing typing experience with the DM.
We should meet out of the MWC as you're in BCN. Would love to power the custom Nothing typing experience with the @fleksySDK
Carl Pei seemed interested in the proposal and asked, “What’s custom about it vs. users downloading from Play Store?” Olivier explained that the Fleksy keyboard is more advanced, supports swipe input, is fully customizable, and can come branded with Nothing’s font. Furthermore, it can be fully customized by one Android engineer or Fleksy as they own 100% of the product.
While it is not yet known whether there will be an agreement between the two companies, the idea of a Nothing keyboard customized by Fleksy is intriguing. Custom keyboards are not new, but Fleksy’s expertise in this field could create something unique and functional for Nothing users.
Customization is essential for any device, especially a smartphone. With so many devices and apps out there, users want to personalize their experiences as much as possible. The Fleksy keyboard is a well-regarded keyboard app with many features that could add value to a customized Nothing keyboard. Moreover, the partnership could also benefit Fleksy, as they could gain access to a new user base through Nothing’s brand.
Foldable smartphones have been a hot topic in the mobile industry for the past few years, with companies like Samsung and Oppo offering models with price tags higher than those of regular smartphones. While many consumers are eager to get their hands on a foldable device, Oppo has recently explained why cheaper foldable phones may not be coming anytime soon. Here are the details…
Oppo explains why cheaper foldable phones aren’t coming any time soon
According to Oppo’s Vice President of Sales and Service, Billy Zhang, now is not the right time for mid-range foldable smartphones. The materials, engineering, and hardware required for foldable devices are significantly more expensive than those for alternative phones with similar features.
Zhang believes that a successful mid-range foldable device cannot compromise on the chipset or display quality. However, a foldable screen requires the motherboard to be divided into two parts, which results in the need for a different chipset design altogether.
The Vice President of Sales and Service at Oppo emphasized that the shipment of foldable products would be the main factor in reducing prices. An increase in sales will lead to a reduction in costs in the supply chain. However, he also noted that this process would take time.
Zhang also pointed out that Oppo prioritizes user experience when it comes to product development. As a result, the company will not compromise on quality for the sake of a lower price tag. Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that other Chinese manufacturers are working on mid-range foldable models.
According to recent reports, Samsung is planning to launch six foldable models in 2024. These devices will include the Galaxy Z Flex, Z Fold Ultra, Z Flip Ultra, and Z Tab. The Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip will also be part of this series.
For context, ChatGPT runs on OpenAI’s GPT 3.5 model, which itself is a refresh of OpenAI’s GPT 3 learning model. And the APIs (application programming interfaces) that OpenAI released for the public today is based on the company’s GPT 3.5 Turbo model, which is the same as the current ChatGPT model.
For illustration purposes
OpenAI announced in the blog post that through a series of system-wide optimizations, the organisation managed to achieve a 90% cost reduction for ChatGPT since December and that it is now passing through those savings to API users and developers in the public.
The newer March 1st GPT 3.5 Turbo model is now priced at $0.002 per 1k tokens, which is 10x cheaper than OpenAI’s existing GPT-3.5 models. OpenAI also claims that GPT 3.5 Turbo is the company’s best model for many non-chat use cases as the company has seen early clients migrate from GPT 3 (text-davinci-003) to GPT 3.5 Turbo (gpt-3.5-turbo) with only a small amount of adjustment needed to their prompts.
Besides releasing its latest chat-based large language model, OpenAI also announced its latest Whisper AI model as well, which brings better speech-to-text capabilities to its newest API. Whisper, the speech-to-text model OpenAI open-sourced back in September 2022, has been upgraded to a larger version 2 model, which is now available through OpenAI’s APIs.
Whisper API is available through the organisation’s transcriptions (transcribes in source language) or translations (transcribes into English) endpoints, and accepts a variety of formats (m4a, mp3, mp4, mpeg, mpga, wav, webm). OpenAI has set the price at $0.006 per minute.
The launch today also revealed OpenAI has already made its latest March 1st API available to early clients such as Snapchat with its new ChatGPT AI-powered chatbot. Concluding the announcement, OpenAI hopes its new AI models made public to developers today will lead to numerous applications that everyone can benefit from.
After many leaks and rumours of the Realme C55, Realme has finally announced today that the brand will be holding a launch event in Indonesia on March 7 (Tuesday) at 1 pm Jakarta Time (GMT+7) to unveil the Realme C55. In the announcement, Realme shared that the Realme C55 will be available in two colour options that the brand calls: Sunshower or Rainy Night. The device will feature either 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM paired with 128GB of eMMC storage or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of eMMC storage. The pricing of the Realme C55 in Indonesia will be revealed at the launch event.
Realme has also shared some highlighting features to look forward to in the Realme C55, which includes a dual camera setup with a 64 MP main sensor, a large 5000 mAh battery with support for 33W SuperVOOC fast charging, a sleek design that is as thin as 7.89mm, and support for NFC.
Source: Realme
As for the build, the device will feature a polycarbonate back with flat sides, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 90Hz FHD+ LCD display with a centre punch-hole cutout at the front, as revealed earlier in a leaked unboxing video. The Realme C55 will run a MediaTek Helio G88 SoC under the hood and there is a USB-C port for charging and support for USB 2.0 data transfer at the bottom with a 3.5mm audio jack and speaker grille.
On the front, there will be an 8MP camera for selfies and video calls. It is expected that the smartphone will run on Realme’s latest Realme UI 4.0 based on Android 13.
If you missed the news last month, the Realme C55’s design recently went viral on social media, due to the Android device sharing a glaring resemblance to the Apple iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island feature baked into its software despite sporting a punch-hole cutout in the centre.
Tencent has unveiled its plan to develop a ChatGPT-like bot called ‘HunyuanAide’. The chatbot will use the Tencent Hunyuan AI model which has the capacity for natural language processing, multimodal content understanding, computer vision, content creation, and more.
Hunyuan AI model recently won the top position in the CLUE (Chinese Language Understanding Evaluation) classification list which makes it one of the most advanced AI in terms of human language understanding. Hunyuan AI gives Tencent an edge over its competitors in the Chinese market as it is the best AI model available for the Chinese language.
Tencent has roped in some of the best scientists to develop its own advanced AI chatbot similar to ChatGPT. Zhang Zhengyou, head of Tencent AI Lab and Robotics X Lab will also head this inter-departmental project. The team will have members from multiple departments like data processing, video games, strategy and planning, Tencent cloud, and more.
ChatGPT which was launched in November 2022 has started an unprecedented AI race across the world. The Chatbot which is the fastest-growing app in human history has already shaken up stock markets across the globe including China.
ChatGPT in China:
ChatGPT is officially banned in China. The government has banned ChatGPT and related services stating national security concerns but has promised to support indigenous apps similar to ChatGPT.Tech giants like Alibaba and Baidu have promised to launch their own version of the Chatbot in the country and Tencent is the latest company to join this Artificial Intelligence race.
Alibaba announced that its research institute Damo academy is already testing its own version of a ChatGPT-like service. Baidu is all set to launch Ernie Bot this month, which will compete with ChatGPT. Last week Fudan university launched its own version of a ChatGPT-style bot named MOSS for public testing. Chinese internet technology company NetEase Inc and the e-commerce platform JD.com have also announced their plans to create ChatGPT rivals.
Back in December last year, Redmi unveiled the Watch 3 in the Chinese market alongside half a dozen other gadgets. While there’s no news about the wearable’s global launch, a new smartwatch from the Xiaomi co-brand has been spotted on South Korea’s NRRA certification website. The listing gives us a good look at the watch’s design and also hints at a few specifications. Let’s look at the details.
As spotted by GoAndroid, a mysterious Redmi watch has appeared on National Radio Research Agency (NRRA) South Korea website with model number M2247W1. The same watch was previously spotted on EEC last month. The listing shows the wearable with a rectangular dial and silicon straps. It apparently has a 2.87V Polymer Li-ion built-in battery along with support for Bluetooth v5.
The images shared by the agency suggest the rectangular dial of the unknown Redmi watch will be retractable, meaning it can be detached from the straps. The company may even provide multiple straps for you to change the look. We can see a single button on the side of the dial. On the bottom, there is a heart rate sensor and a charging point. There seems to be no microphone on the wearable, suggesting it won’t come with a Bluetooth calling feature.
While we are not sure about the wearable’s official moniker, we can confidently say it’s not the Redmi Watch 3. The unknown smartwatch could arrive as a budget offering and we won’t be surprised if it will be priced under $50. Other details about the watch are pretty scarce at the moment. We should be learning more details about it in the near future. Stay tuned for the updates.

Apple is continuing its journey in the smartphone market at full speed with the iPhone 14 series while also preparing for the iPhone 15. Some important changes are expected in the new series, which is expected to take the stage in the last quarter of this year. According to recent reports, the iPhone 15 series will switch to the USB-C connection port, which is a requirement for products sold in the European Union by the end of 2024. However, according to the latest reports, the company will only support some USB-C accessories. Here are the details…
Apple Rumored to Require MFi Certification for iPhone 15 Accessories
Rumors are circulating that the upcoming iPhone 15 will feature a USB-C port, marking a significant departure from the traditional Lightning port that Apple has used since 2012. However, it seems that even with the switch to USB-C, manufacturers of accessories will still need to obtain MFi certification from Apple to ensure full compatibility with the new iPhone.
MFi, which stands for “Made For iPhone,” is a certification program that manufacturers must go through to ensure that their accessories work seamlessly with Apple devices. This program has been in place for years and has helped to ensure that users have a wide range of high-quality accessories to choose from.
According to recent reports, only MFi-certified accessories will have full access to the USB-C port on the iPhone 15. This means that accessories that have not gone through the certification process will be limited in terms of data transfer and charging speeds. While this may be a disappointment for some users, it is important to note that the certification process is designed to ensure the safety and reliability of third-party accessories.
It is worth noting that the cost of MFi certification will likely be passed on to the end user, meaning that certified accessories may be more expensive than non-certified alternatives. However, it is also rumored that some MFi-certified accessories may still cost less than Apple’s own branded accessories.
From an environmental perspective, the need for MFi certification could be seen as a negative development, as it may discourage users from reusing or repurposing older accessories. However, it is important to remember that the certification process helps to ensure that accessories meet Apple’s high standards for safety and performance, which is crucial for protecting the longevity of the iPhone.
Aside from the potential switch to USB-C and the MFi certification requirements, the iPhone 15 is rumored to feature a range of other new features and improvements. These include the Dynamic Island and solid-state buttons on all four models, as well as new A17 chips on the two Pro models. As with all rumors, it is important to take these reports with a grain of salt until official announcements are made. However, if the reports about the iPhone 15 are true, it could mark a significant step forward for Apple’s flagship device, bringing new levels of compatibility and functionality to users.
