Xiaomi 12S Ultra Might Get Discontinued as It Reaches Sales Goal Ahead of Schedule

Xiaomi 12S Ultra is a rather interesting device that debuted last year with probably the best camera setup ever seen on a smartphone. Unsurprisingly, the handset received an overwhelming response in China, the only country where it is sold. Today, the company’s CEO announced that the 12S Ultra has reached the expected sales goal ahead of schedule, hinting it may get discontinued soon.

Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, took to Weibo to announce that Xiaomi 12S Ultra has achieved the expected sales goal ahead of schedule. This implies that no new models will be manufactured and the smartphone will be taken off the shelves. 12S Ultra is already out of stock on Xiaomi Mall and is only available on some third-party platforms.

Xiaomi-12S-Ultra

The handset would have received a similar response in the international market but the company chose to limit it to mainland China. To remind you, Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the first high-end flagship launched after the cooperation between Xiaomi and Leica. It packs a 1-inch outsole Sony IMX989 sensor, is equipped with a plain leather back cover, and features a huge camera module. Its price starts at 5,999 yuan ($885).

Xiaomi is also reported to be working on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. CEO Lei Jun also hinted at the same today while replying to a user’s comment on Weibo. Rumors claim the 13 Ultra will be unveiled at the MWC 2023, which is going to take place from February 27 to March 2 in Barcelona, Spain. The Xiaomi 13 Series (Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro) will launch globally during the same event.

Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro to Feature Under-display Face ID

Apple introduced a new pill-shaped cutout on the iPhone 14 Pro models, getting rid of the notch at the top, which has been a familiar sight for the past several generations. The Cupertino company calls it “Dynamic Island,” and rumors suggest it will expand to all four iPhone 15 models this year. However, the brand may be having some different plans for next year’s iPhone 16 Pro.

According to a report by The Elec, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro will feature under-display Face ID technology in order to provide a more usable display area. The TrueDepth camera used for ‌facial recognition will not be visible when the function is not in use. Only the lens hole for the front camera will be visible, giving a more seamless look.

iPhone 14 Pro

The publication says the front-facing camera hole will remain on the iPhone 16 Pro, but the display area and immersive experience will improve overall. In addition, it confirms that the display cutouts for this year’s iPhone 15 Pro will be the same as the ones on the iPhone 14 Pro, as the under-display Face ID is not yet ready.

Further, the report adds that Apple will adopt an under-panel camera (UPC) sequentially after applying under-panel Face ID to the front of the iPhone. UPC will still have a front camera module mounted under the display, but when not in use, the camera lens hole will not be visible. The application principles of under-panel face ID and UPC will apparently be the same.

The new technology will likely be limited to the Pro models, and will be extended to the rest of the devices in the next generation.

BSNL India’s 4G Launch Further Delayed; Now Scheduled for Second Half of 2023

A few months back, India inaugurated the 5G network service in the country. Soon after that, Reliance Jio and Airtel started providing 5G network services to the top cities in India. Jio was the fastest coverage provider when it comes to 5G. However, the Indian government’s very own BSNL also claimed that they will soon launch the 4G network connectivity in the country and soon after that, they will finally announce the 5G network connectivity. However, according to the latest reports, the launch of BSNL 4G has been further delayed and now the formal launch in pushed to the second half of 2023.

bsnl

The Indian government has directed that BSNL launch 4G services by the end of the current financial year, but it appears the telecom is not in a rush as it intends to launch the services in the second half of this year. This is extremely remarkable considering that the telecom company was rumoured to be bringing in 4G services by March 2023, according to the telecom minister and senior DoT officials just a few days prior. Before the official launch, the telecom operator also finished its trials with Tata Consultancy Services.

Notably, the government has also authorised an Rs. 1.64 lakh crore revival package for BSNL and MTNL, with the former expected to launch a 4G network in metro areas initially and MTNL concentrating solely on the existing connections. However, a further delay in the launch will make BSNL unable to participate in the ongoing struggle among telecom providers. So, this also confirms that the 5G launch of the BSNL will be further postponed. This is something bad news for the users of BSNL as the competition has already started providing 5G network connectivity while they are not even provided proper access to 4G, which is a generation-old network technology now.

Apple’s MacBook Pro and MacBook Air Boost Computer Business

Apple‘s Mac laptops have emerged as the company’s primary growth driver for its personal computer business, with the MacBook Pro leading the way. According to data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), as of the September 2022 quarter, the MacBook Pro accounted for 54% of Mac sales, with the MacBook Air close behind at 46%. Overall, laptops accounted for 74% of Mac units sold in 2022, compared to the 26% figure from the desktop business, which includes the iMac, Mac Pro, Mac mini, and Mac Studio.

In the desktop segment, the iMac and Mac Pro led the way at 50% and 43%, respectively, while the Mac mini and Mac Studio accounted for just 4%. Despite this, Apple’s Macs continue to be popular in both the education and enterprise sectors. Educational or student use accounts for roughly one-third of Mac purchases, while almost 50% of Mac buyers report that they will use their new computer for business.

Data from CIRP also reveals that personal use of Macs has slightly declined over the past five years but remains the primary use, while education usage has trended downward. Business usage, on the other hand, has grown significantly and is now more prevalent than education.

It’s worth noting that Apple has not released a breakdown of Mac model sales in about a decade, so it’s not entirely clear where CIRP is getting its data from. However, Apple’s fourth quarter financial results for 2022, which were posted in October, showed that revenue from the Mac reached $11.5 billion, contributing to the company’s overall earning of $90.15 billion during that quarter.

In conclusion, Apple’s Mac laptops, particularly the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, have taken over as the primary growth driver for the company’s personal computer business. They are popular not only among individuals for personal use but also in the education and enterprise sectors. As Apple continues to compete with PC makers, the Macs will likely remain a significant part of the company’s overall business strategy.

Apple iPhone 13 is the best selling phone in India in Q4 2022: Report

The Apple iPhone 13 has apparently become the most popular smartphone in the Indian market in the fourth and final quarter of last year. The company’s 2021 iPhone model was the best selling model in the region during this period, so here are all the details.

The news arrives from known analytics & market researched based firm Counterpoint Research. During Q4 2022, the iPhone 13 was one of the best deals for a premium grade handset thanks to attractive promotional sales. Between the October to December period, the Indian market saw festive sales with the Dussera and Diwali festivals taking center stage. Major e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, and others were offering great discounts on various products like smartphones.

During this time, iPhone 13 was quite popular in the market, with the base 2022 iPhone model alone capturing a 4 percent market share during the sales period. Similarly, the Samsung Galaxy M13, Samsung Galaxy A04s, Realme C35, and the Redmi A1 also accounted for a 3 percent market share in Q4 2022. Regardless, it is still quite interesting to find an iPhone model, which isn’t exactly out of date, topping the list considering how the budget to mid range segment is the most popular in the region.

For those unaware, the iPhone 13 was being offered on sale for a price tag as low as 50,000 INR (roughly 610 US Dollars) on Flipkart and Croma. This deal basically propelled the sales of this model. The other top five best selling smartphones were the Realme C11, Oppo A54, Samsung Galaxy M12, Redmi Note 10s, and Redmi 9A. However, all of these models were priced under the 15,000 INR category.
