Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory Gears Up for Global EV Market Leadership

According to a tweet from Tesla, the company’s production of the Model Y at its Berlin Gigafactory has reached 3,000 units per week. This marks a significant increase in production capacity since the Gigafactory opened in March 2022 and reached 1,000 units per week in June and 2,000 units per week in October.

Tesla’s Model Y production at Berlin Gigafactory surpasses 3,000 units per week

Tesla’s production of the Model Y at its Berlin Gigafactory has surpassed 3,000 units per week, according to a tweet from the official Tesla account. The Berlin Gigafactory opened on March 22, 2022 and reached a weekly production of 1,000 Model Y units in mid-June and 2,000 units in early October.

Recently, Tesla also announced that its factory in Austin, Texas is producing 3,000 Model Y units per week. The rapid increase in production capacity at the Berlin and Texas Gigafactories, along with capacity upgrades at the California and Shanghai Gigafactories, has led to a decrease in backlogged orders for Tesla.

According to analyst Troy Teslike, Tesla’s global electric vehicle order backlog has been steadily decreasing in recent months and was down to 190,000 units as of November 30, 2022. This is reportedly equivalent to approximately 44 days of production capacity.

In October, Tesla released its third quarter vehicle production and delivery numbers for 2022. The data showed that the company produced 366,000 vehicles and delivered 344,000, an increase of over 100,000 vehicles compared to the same period the previous year, but still below analyst expectations.

During the third quarter, Tesla produced 365,923 new vehicles, with 345,988 of those being Model 3 and Model Y and 199,35 being Model S and Model X. In terms of deliveries, Tesla delivered 343,830 new vehicles, with 325,158 being Model 3 and Model Y and 18,672 being Model S and Model X.

In terms of production and delivery, Tesla’s performance in the third quarter was impacted by the global semiconductor shortage and logistics challenges, but the company is working to increase production and delivery capacity. The rapid increase in Model Y production at the Berlin and Texas Gigafactories is a positive sign for Tesla’s production capabilities.

OnePlus Files Patent For Ecosystem Products In India Under OnePlus Featuring

OnePlus is aiming to expand its product portfolio. After launching smartphones since its inception, the brand has announced televisions, TWS earphones, and smart wearables in the last few years. The Chinese brand entered the PC segment with the launch of monitors earlier this month. OnePlus also announced a co-creation platform called ‘OnePlus Featuring’ where the company will work with different partners on new products.

Now OnePlus has filed a trademark for OnePlus Featuring. It has application number 5709699 and the trademark was filed on December 5th. The trademark application mentions various devices across different product categories. Some of these include smart speakers, smart glasses, remote control, monitors, webcams, network routers, computer peripherals, tablet computer, and more. It’s worth noting that a trademark filing doesn’t assure that the products will make it to the market, and hence it must be taken with a pinch of salt.

Since OnePlus has confirmed that it will work with different partners on new products, we can expect the brand to enter new product categories. The OnePlus Keyboard made in collaboration with popular keyboard maker Keychron will be the first device under the OnePlus Featuring initiative. It is confirmed to debut in February with sales commencing from May 2023.

The OnePlus Keyboard is confirmed to feature an ultra-precise CNC aluminium body for a premium experience. It will have a Double Gasket design for precise calibration and softer actuation. The device will pack customisable features including hot-swappable switches and flexible, open-source firmware. With this, users can customise RGB lights and remap keys unlocking the keyboard’s full potential. The OnePlus keyboard will serve as an all-in-one solution for users’ keyboard needs and it work with Windows, Mac, and Linux..

MIUI 14 for Mi 10 Series Will be Based on Android 13: Official

Earlier this month, the head of MIUI confirmed that MIUI 14 will be released for the Mi 10 series. Now, a little over a week after the announcement of the latest software, the executive reveals more details.

He not only hints at the devices that will be receiving the update but also shares a rough timeline for the rollout. Most importantly, he confirms the Android upgrade. Let’s go through his statement.

Xiaomi Mi 10

Earlier today, Zhang Guoquan, director of Xiaomi‘s System Software Department, answered multiple frequently asked questions on MIUI 14. One of these answers provides more details on the availability of the newest MIUI for the Mi 10 series.

The executive says that the MIUI 14 update for the Mi 10 series will be based on Android 13. We previously thought that Xiaomi may release the latest MIUI with Android 12 for these phones.

But unfortunately, this update will be only available for devices powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 platform. This means only Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, and Mi 10 Ultra will get access to MIUI 13 based on Android 13.

Thus, the aforementioned smartphones will be receiving their third Android update though they don’t come under the new software update policy introduced by Xiaomi for select devices last year.

As far as the rollout is concerned, the executive suggests that there could be some delay due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in China. However, he believes that the update should arrive by March 2023.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t talk about the availability of the MIUI 14 update for the remaining two Mi 10 series devices, namely Mi 10 Lite and Mi 10 Lite Zoom. Hence, these phones may not get the update. Even if they receive it, the software will be likely based on Android 12.

Lei Jun Reveals the Reason Behind the Xiaomi 13 Pro’s Curved Screen

Xiaomi recently introduced the Xiaomi 13 series, which includes the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro. While both phones feature impressive specifications, there has been some discussion around the choice of screen for the Xiaomi 13 Pro. While the Xiaomi 13 features a flat-screen, the Xiaomi 13 Pro has a curved screen. Some have questioned this choice, and CEO Lei Jun has addressed these concerns.

Lei Jun: The curved screen choice on Xiaomi 13 Pro for a sleek look

According to Lei Jun, the decision to use a curved screen on the Xiaomi 13 Pro was due to the fact that a flat-screen would have made the phone too thick. He stated that a flat screen would have made the top-tier flagship “too thick” and “you wouldn’t like it.” While Lei Jun did not specify how a flat screen would have impacted the thickness of the phone, it is possible that he was referring to the feel of the phone in the hand rather than the actual physical thickness of the device.

Xiaomi 13 Pro
Xiaomi 13 Pro

In terms of specifications, the Xiaomi 13 Pro features a 6.73-inch 2K resolution (3200×1440) screen with a new generation Samsung E6 light-emitting material, peak brightness of 1900nit, support for HDR10+, 10bit, and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It is also a professional original color screen, with a JNCD of approximately 0.21 and a Delta E of approximately 0.28. In terms of thickness, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is generally thicker than the Xiaomi 13. Many factors can impact the thickness of a phone, including battery capacity and camera size.

Overall, the choice to use a curved screen on the 13 Pro was likely made in order to maintain a slim and sleek design for the top-tier flagship phone. While some may prefer the feel of a flat display, the curved screen on the 13 Pro offers a unique and premium look and feel. Ultimately, the choice between a curved or flat screen is a personal preference and will depend on the individual user’s needs and preferences.

Xiaomi Layoff Rumors Cause Panic: Thousands Facing Unemployment

Global economic crisis and resulting economic downturn has put pressure on companies around the world. Tech companies, which are often seen as more resilient to economic challenges, are also feeling the effects of rising costs and inflation. As a result, we are seeing more and more tech brands announce layoffs as a means of cutting costs and weathering the storm. One of these companies Xiaomi, is reportedly preparing to join these brands with plans to lay off thousands of employees.

Xiaomi faces layoff rumors as economic pressures continue

Xiaomi is reportedly undergoing a round of layoffs, with multiple departments reportedly affected. According to sources at the company, the scale of the layoffs is significant, with the smartphone, internet, and China divisions all experiencing job cuts, though the extent of the layoffs varies by department.

Xiaomi biulding

Some departments have reportedly seen layoffs of up to 75%, while others have had around 40% of their teams cut. The overall scale of the layoffs has not yet been confirmed, but it is estimated to reach 15%. Affected employees are reportedly receiving N+2 compensation, which includes double pay for unused vacation days.

The news of the layoffs comes as Xiaomi’s financial performance has been under pressure this year, with adjusted profits for the first three quarters coming in at 28.6 billion yuan, 20.8 billion yuan, and 21.2 billion yuan, far below the single-quarter levels of 50-60 billion yuan in 2021 and representing YoY declines of 52.9%, 67.1%, and 59.1%, respectively.

As a result, the company may be looking to cut costs by reducing its workforce. As of September 30, the company had 35,314 full-time employees, with 32,609 based in mainland China. It remains to be seen how the layoffs will impact the company’s operations and performance going forward, and how it will continue to compete in a crowded and highly competitive market.

The overall strength of this round of layoffs is not yet clear, according to estimates or up to 15%. Previously, there is news that Xiaomi plans to lay off a large number of employees to reduce labor costs, and estimates that the number of layoffs in this round will reach 6,000. It should be noted that there is no official statement about the layoff yet, therefore, we must also consider that the allegations may be unfounded.

Apple Reportedly Working On Multiple New Monitors Powered By Apple Silicon

A few years back, Apple launched the Pro Display XDR, a high-end monitor from the brand and the first display from the company after it discontinued Apple Thunderbolt Display.

Earlier this year, the company launched the Apple Studio Display, and now a new report coming from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that the Cupertino-based tech giant is working on new monitors.

The report adds that Apple is currently working on multiple new external monitors, including an upgraded version of the Pro Display XDR that was launched along with the Mac Pro in 2019.

It is further said that the upcoming monitors from the company will come powered by Apple Silicon chips, similar to how the Studio Display is powered by the Apple A13 Bionic chip. However, as of now, not many details are known about the upcoming displays from the brand.

Currently, there’s no timeline available for the launch of new external displays from Apple, but as per the reports, the new Mac Pro is further along in development compared to the updated Pro Display XDR.

Earlier, reports indicated that Apple is planning to launch a new 27-inch Mini-LED display in the first quarter of 2023, but not much is known about the product yet. It is speculated that this monitor could be a new Studio Display with ProMotion, but it has not been confirmed yet.

So far, all the external displays or monitors launched by Apple have been in the high-end category with premium pricing. It remains to be seen if any of the new monitors that the company is working on end up in the affordable segment.
