Some FitBit Versa 2 users complain of unresponsive display after the latest update

The latest software update on the Fitbit Versa 2 smartwatch could be causing problems for the device. Numerous owners of the Versa 2 have reported their devices becoming unusable after installing the update. The update has possibly rendered some units to be unresponsive and this could be due to an unresolved bug.Fitbit Versa 2

The major issue reported by users of the Fitbit Versa 2 is that its touchscreen is no longer functional. The latest Versa 2 update with firmware number v35.72.1.23 was expected to fix outstanding bugs but obviously, not all bugs were captured. However, it is noted that the bug is not present in some Versa 2 units. In some affected units, it is impossible to get past the lock screen, and restarting the unit does not help either. Members of the Fitbit community who complained about the issue also stated that even a factory reset does not resolve the issue.

It was also reported that users who did a factory reset to the Versa 2 units were unable to pair the device with a smartphone thereafter. We are yet to get any official Fitbit statement on the seemingly widespread malfunction issue relating to the Versa 2. It is therefore advisable that owners of the Versa 2 should not install any updates yet for their devices. This will safeguard their devices pending the resolution of the widespread screen freezing of the Versa 2.

Apple iPhone required to use USB Type-C by 2024 by the EU

The European Union (EU) has been working on standardizing the charging port for consumer electronic products for sometime now. But with the latest law being passed, Apple will be required to launch its future iPhones with a USB Type C port.

Apple

According to an official press release, the USB Type C port will become the standard for new smartphones, with the law coming into effect by the “end of 2024.” Furthermore, this law is not limited to just handsets and also includes tablets and cameras. However, the change will most notably affect future iPhones. As of right now, Apple’s iPhones is the only phone that still sticks to its proprietary Lightning Port.

Even its latest iPhone 14 series features this port. But in just a couple of years, this might have to change due to the new mandate. Although, it would only be more beneficial for the consumers since they won’t have to be limited to the Lightning Port chargers that Apple and some select partners sell. Furthermore, the Cupertino based giant will also be capable of offering higher charging rates as well on future iPhone models.

iPhone 12 Pro Max with USB-C port

We can expect the company to adopt the USB Type C standard sometime around the iPhone 16 series. Although, going by Apple’s unwillingness to change, it might even be delayed to the iPhone 17 lineup. This is implied by the press release, which states that “the new rules would not apply to products placed on the market before the date of application [of the rules].”

Apple’s A16 Bionic GPU shows an underwhelming improvement over its predecessor the A15

The latest performance tests of Apple‘s A16 Bionic GPU have shown a less than significant improvement over its predecessor. The A16 Bionic powers the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. The chipset was put through the paces of GPU tests and it did not deliver noticeable improvements over its predecessor, the A15 Bionic.Iphone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro

The A16 Bionic debuted with the iPhone 14 series and it has been put through several benchmarking performance tests. The current performance tests sought to examine how much better the new chipset is over its predecessor and other flagship chips like the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The tests were carried out by Golden Reviewer and the A16 Bionic chalked a score of 3,359 on 3DMark’s Wildlife Extreme test, higher than any other tested chipset. However, its 444.1 efficiency score was less than that of MediaTek’s Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 9000 SoCs. The A16 Bionic is also about 20% more powerful than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and also slightly more efficient.

When squared up against the A15 Bionic, The new Apple chipset was only 5% more powerful and 20% more efficient. A few other benchmarking tests have put the A16 Bionic as the most powerful mobile chip in terms of GPU. The performance metrics show a significant improvement in the efficiency of the A16 Bionic over the A15 Bionic. However, in terms of raw power, there is only a minimal improvement.

Google Pixel 4 receives its final update just ahead of Pixel 7 series launch

For the Pixel 4 series of smartphone users, Google is rolling out the final update for the two devices. The company is updating the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL just ahead of the launch of the latest flagship Pixel 7 series.

Google
Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL

The news arrives from an official Search Engine giant support page back. So now, the October 2022 is the last month the two smartphones will be receiving their guaranteed update. In other words, there will no longer offer any major Android version update or even any security updates either. For those unaware, Google’s Pixel family of phones typically are one of the first to receive any major Android upgrades as a part of their “guaranteed” updates.

This means, it is still possible that the company will support the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL with smaller software updates for a while longer. Although, this is unlikely considering the brand stopped supporting the Pixel 3 following the end of the “guaranteed” updates previously. The company discontinuing the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL support arrives just ahead of the launch of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, which is the flagship lineup of this year.

Since these are new phones, it is guaranteed to receive five years of security patches, which is higher than the three years of security updates offered by the Pixel 4 series. However, the Pixel 7 series will likely only receive up to three years of major Android support.

Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro Global Variant Lacks NFC for Contactless Payments

The Xiaomi Band 7 Pro was initially launched in China in July. Yesterday, the company announced this wearable for the global markets.

Outside mainland China, it goes by Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro. Additionally, it also lacks a useful feature.

Xiaomi Band 7 Pro

The Xiaomi Band 7 Pro arrives with NFC as standard in China. Hence, it offers support for contactless payments and transit passes in the region.

But unfortunately, the global variant of the fitness tracker lacks NFC. We expected the product to feature this hardware because Xiaomi released Mi Smart Band 6 NFC in select global markets last year.

This year, the company has neither debuted Xiaomi Smart Band 7 NFC in international markets nor has included NFC in Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro. Hence, people looking for contactless payments on their fitness trackers will have to buy the older Mi Smart Band 6 NFC.

Perhaps, the firm may bring the NFC variant of Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro later. But as of now, there are no leaks or reports regarding it.

Either way, if you are fine without NFC, the wearable is a good purchase for €99. It offers a 1.64-inch rectangular AMOLED display, heart-rate monitoring, blood oxygen level monitoring, sleep tracking, 110+ sports modes, GNSS, 150+ watch faces, 5 ATM water resistance, 12-day battery life, and more.

The news arrives from a Reuters report, which stated that the Cupertino based giant is preparing to make new Beats headphones in India. Furthermore, the iPhone maker is apparently also planning on moving some AirPods production to the country as well, as per sources close to the matter. Reportedly, Luxshare Precision Industry, a Chinese supplier of Apple, also has plans to begin begins production for AirPods in India.

On the other hand, Foxconn will be responsible for manufacturing Beats headphones in the region. Elon Musk changes his mind about the Twitter acquisition

Elon Musk has apparently had a change in heart regarding his original plans of acquiring Twitter. The billionaire had backed out of the deal a while ago, but now, it appears that Musk is planning on buying the platform again.

Elon Musk Featured

For those unaware, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO offered to buy Twitter for 44 billion US Dollars back in April 2022. However, the deal was soon put on hold over disputed regarding the number of fake and spam accounts that Twitter claimed to have on their platform. The social media giant claimed that the percentage was less than 5 percent, but Musk decided to pull out of the deal. He claimed that the microblogging website did not comply with his contractual obligations.

Thus, Musk backed out of the deal back in July 2022 as he claimed that the company failed to provide him with relevant business information. In response to this, the social media company filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk to force the billionaire to make the original purchase. The company accused Musk of disrupting its operations and even destroying their stockholder value.

However now, Musk’s changing his mind about the buyout arrives before the trial, which was set to begin in October 17. Since Elon is set to acquire Twitter again, the trial should fall through unless he has another change of heart. Apple AirPods Pro 2 bug shows ‘Replace Battery Soon’ message to users

Apple had just recently announced the highly anticipated second generation of its AirPods Pro 2 truly wireless earbuds. But similar to the iPhone 14 lineup, it appears that even the new hearables are facing bugs soon after their launch. So let’s have a look.

Apple

A number of users have been complaining about a bug that triggers the battery replacement notifications on the Find My app. This bug affects nearby devices when the battery of the AirPods Pro earbuds or the MagSafe Charging  Case is low. For those unaware, the AirPods Pro 2 was arrives with enhanced Find My functionality from its U1 chip for Precision Finding and even sharing the battery levels at all times.

So, it is likely that this new feature on the second generation AirPods Pro might be the cause behind this new bug. Looking at the notification, users are urged to “replace the battery on soon.” Although, it is technically not possible to replace the batteries on the AirPods Pro and one just needs to charge the device. In other words, users facing this issue might not be aware that the notification is for the AirPods Pro 2 since the item are referred to as simply “left,” “right,” and “Case.”

Notably, the notifications also appears to be similar to the one used for the AirTag when its CR2032 battery is almost empty and needed to be replaced. Meaning, there is also a chance that the Find My app could be confusing the AirPods Pro 2 with the AirTag smart tracker. So, users do not have to worry about their new second generation AirPods Pro being a faulty unit.
