Last evening, Xiaomi held a conference in China for the Xiaomi 12S series launch. Ahead of the event, it was rumored that the company will introduce a variant of the Xiaomi 12S Pro with a Mediatek chipset.
But in reality, the said device turned out to be a version of the Xiaomi 12 Pro instead, dubbed as Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition. It comes with some differences, and for that reason, it is priced lower.
Here in this article, let’s check out how the Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition differs from the Xiaomi 12 Pro. At the same time, let’s try to draw a conclusion about whether it is a better deal purely based on on-paper specs.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition
Same Look, Limited Colors
In terms of design and dimensions (163.6 x 74.6 x 8.16 mm), the Xiaomi 12S Pro is identical to the Xiaomi 12 Pro. The only difference is that it weighs slightly lower at 201g as compared to 205g.
Since the device’s availability is limited, Xiaomi is offering it in only two colors (black, and blue). Whereas, the original comes in four colors (black, blue, purple, and green).
Dimensity replaces Snapdragon
As the name suggests, the Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition is powered by a Mediatek chipset. To be precise, it is run by a Dimensity 9000 Plus SoC.
The Mediatek Dimensity 9000 Plus inside the Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition is a more stable chipset than the Qualcomm Snapdragon Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 housed in the Xiaomi 12 Pro.
The new chip is not only more power-efficient but also provides better thermal performance. Hence, the device should offer an overall better experience in the above factors.
Downgraded Camera System
The main highlight of the Xiaomi 12 Pro is its cameras. That’s not the case with the Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition as it comes with a watered-down camera system.
The Dimensity variant retains the OIS-assisted 50MP Sony IMX707 primary sensor and the 32MP selfie camera from the Snapdragon model. However, the remaining two sensors are a weaker 13MP ultra-wide unit and a 5MP telemacro snapper instead of two different 50MP sensors for ultra-wide and 2x optical zoom.
The camera setup on the Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition is identical to the one found on the compact Xiaomi 12S sans Leica image processing.
Bigger Battery, Slower Charging
The Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition is fueled by a 5,160mAh battery. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 12 Pro uses a smaller 4,600mAh battery.
But the Snapdragon version carries support for 120W wired charging, while the Dimensity model is limited to 67W wired charging.
Additionally, Xiaomi has dropped support for wireless charging on the Dimensity version. For the unaware, the Snapdragon variant carries support for 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.
Cheaper Pricing, Limited Availability
The Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition comes in 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB memory configurations priced at ¥3,999 ($597) and ¥4,499 ($671), respectively. It will be sold exclusively in China, and even there, it will be made available in limited quantities.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is sold in almost all the markets where Xiaomi has its presence. In China, it is priced at ¥4,699 ($701), ¥4,999 ($746), and ¥5,399 ($805) for 8GB + 128GB, 8GB +256GB, and 12GB + 256GB memory variants, respectively.
Conclusion
The Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition is ¥700 cheaper than the Xiaomi 12 Pro. Therefore, it sounds like a good deal at first sight as the phones look identical.
But based on the above comparison, one can clearly say that the Dimensity model lacks so many features for the lower price tag. At the same time, we cannot deny the performance, thermal, and battery issue with the Snapdragon version.
Hence, if the improvements on the Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition are of more value to you than the overall feature set of the Xiaomi 12 Pro, then the newer model is likely a better option for you.

According to a NikkeiAsiareport, the Chinese tech giant has started its smartphone production in the northern province of Taiyuan from a Hong Kong based foundry. While OnePlus initially only sold premium grade devices, it has seen great success in the mid range category thanks to its Nord branding. Now, it appears that the company is considering spinning off Nord as a separate brand.
Nord 2T
According to TheMobileIndian, the Chinese smartphone maker is planning on expanding its mid range presence in the market even further. It has already launched the Nord CE 2, the Nord CE 2 Lite, and even the latest addition, the Nord 2T recently. And now, a source close to the matter has stated that the next strategy to grow in the mid range segment is by having OnePlus spin off its Nord as an independent brand or possibly even a sub brand.
In other words, this would bring the company in line with other Chinese OEMs like Oppo with Realme, Vivo with iQOO, and Xiaomi with POCO. The source further added that Nord will be treated as a standalone company and will have its own unique branding, stores, and even team. Notably, Nord phones will no longer have OnePlus branding, rather they will carry the words “from OnePlus” or “a OnePlus brand” in come places.
Based on the branding so far, we can expect a branding that uses light blue as its theme color. The sources also stated that the Nord branding will continue to focus on offline channels and to build a strong offline presence thanks to new dedicated showrooms and partnerships with third party stores and other authorized resellers. The Nord branding doesn’t just end with smartphones and will soon encompass TWS earbuds, Bluetooth neckbands, power banks, fitness bands, smartwatches, and much more.

Apple is expected to launch its next-generation smartwatch lineup in the form of the Apple Watch Series 8 later this year, along with the new iPhone 14 series. Ahead of the official announcement, several details about the device have leaked online.
Now, a new report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg for Power On newsletter claims that the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 could come with a body temperature sensor.
It is said that by using the sensor, the smartwatch will be able to determine if the user is running a fever but it won’t be able to give an exact reading of the body temperature. As of now, it will be able to detect spikes in body temperature and determine if the user should see a doctor or not.
The company is reportedly in the internal testing phase for the body temperature sensor and if it passes through the test, then it will be incorporated in the upcoming Watch Series 8 lineup but may not make its way to the budget SE lineup.
Apart from the addition of this new sensor, the upcoming smartwatch lineup from the technology giant won’t have major new features but will most probably consist of minor upgrades, including better display for the high-end models.
Currently, the company has not revealed anything related to the Apple Watch Series 8 but given the track record, we expect the devices to officially get launched in a few months along with the Apple iPhone 14 lineup.

Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro, 12 Pro Dimensity edition, and 12S Ultra in China. It appears that none of these devices may be released in markets outside China. As far as India is concerned, the company is expected to release the Xiaomi 12T lineup, which may include a vanilla model and a Pro variant. Tipster Kacper Skrzypek has tipped the name of the processor that will drive the Xiaomi 12T.
The Xiaomi 12T lineup is said to include two devices with “plato” and “diting” codenames. The former is expected to debut on the market with the Xiaomi 12T moniker, whereas the latter may carry the Xiaomi 12T Pro marketing name.
Xiaomi 11T
According to a previous report by Xiaomiui, the “plato” device was found listed in the MtkList in the Mi Code. It means that it will be powered by a MediaTek chip. Now, tipster Skrzypek has claimed that the 12T will be equipped with the Dimensity 8100-Ultra chipset. So, it looks like the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform could be used to power the Xiaomi 12T Pro.
The Xiaomi 12T has recently bagged approval from the FCC certification site, which indicates that it may not take too long for it to go official. The FCC listing revealed that the 12T will offer connectivity features like Wi-Fi 802.11ax, 5G (7 bands), Bluetooth, GPS, and an IR blaster. It will be arriving in two configurations: 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage.
The Xiaomi 12T Pro is likely to come with specs like a 120Hz AMOLED display, OIS-enabled rear cameras, 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 128 GB / 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and 120W fast charging. It is speculated that the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro will be rebranded as the Redmi K50S and Redmi K50S Pro, respectively, in China.
