Oppo’s Find X5 Pro brings beauty without compromise with its ceramic back

Oppo recently unveiled its Find X5 Pro flagship smartphone which came with all the cutting edge bells and whistles including the latest flagship chipsets from Qualcomm and MediaTek and even incorporates their Marisilicon X NPU chip (Snapdragon variant), however, the smartphone mostly stands out for its unique design and the never before seen ceramic back panel. So let’s take a look at why and how Oppo made this back panel possible.

Oppo Find X5 Pro

With the Find X5 Pro, Oppo wanted to create a truly premium experience for its users both in the looks and feel of the device, so they decided to go with ceramic instead of glass for the back. The material has a lot of advantages compared to glass, like it is twice as tough, making it essentially drop-proof, and also has a texture that reduces fingerprints.

Oppo Find X5 Pro

The back panel design is perfected to a tee with the use of in-house techniques of molding ceramic into an organically curved rear with a smoothness that feels like a pebble. But as we know that ceramic is one of the hardest materials out there, it proved nearly impossible to mold it using conventional methods, and therefore the engineers at Oppo invented a process from scratch to achieve the elegant design and finish of the Find X5 pro.

Oppo claims to have invested millions to develop specialized automated equipment which utilizes over 2,000 individual control points to achieve the uniquely curved ceramic rear panel of Find X5 pro and its iconic seamless camera housing.

To remove the machine marks from the back panel, engineers meticulously polish the ceramic’s edges in multiple stages, using a four-axis polishing machine and micron-level diamond powder. This process takes five whole days to produce a ceramic cover that is up to Oppo’s standards.

The Ceramic back of the Oppo Find X5 Pro has truly combined luxury with utility, which has been possible due to Oppo’s commitment to precision and perfection.

Vivo Y15C passes Geekbench with Helio P35 SoC

A new Vivo smartphone has appeared on the Geekbench portal. The smartphone has the model number V2147, and as per PassionateGeekz, this is the Vivo Y15C. Thanks to the certification, we now know the key specs of the smartphone.

The Vivo V2147 or the Y15C scores 164 points in the single-core department and 832 points in the multi-core department. The smartphone has a MediaTek MT6765V/CB, which is the Helio P35 SoC. It has 3GB of RAM and boots on the Android 12 operating system.

Vivo Y15C

Moreover, the smartphone with the same model number was earlier spotted with the CQC certification. We learn that the device has a 10W charging speed.

Apart from this, there are no other details about this smartphone. However, we expect to get more insights about the phone in the coming weeks.

In related news, the company recently launched the Vivo Y15s in India. The smartphone has the same Helio P35 SoC and has a 5,000mAh battery. Just like the Y15C, this one too features a 10W charging speed. It has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The smartphone sports a 6.51-inch water-drop notch display with an HD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. It features a 13MP + 2MP dual-camera at back and an 8MP selfie camera at the front. Sony Xperia ACE 3 is an upcoming compact phone just like the iPhone SE 2022

Despite the old-style design of the recently launched iPhone SE 2022, it is still expected to sell like hot cakes in some markets. Looking at the Android phone market, there aren’t many small-sized Android devices to compete with it. Now, Sony appears to be changing this, as a new device with an iPhone SE-like compact design has appeared in new renders. The device is called the Sony Xperia ACE 3, and it is tiny and thick.

The Sony Xperia ACE 3 renders come from OnLeaks (via Zollege). The renders show the compact dew-drop notch display of the device. The smartphone has a 5.5-inch panel and, even though it has a modern design, boasts noticeable bezels. At the bottom, it has a thick chin, similar to the predecessor ACE models. The device has the following measurements: 139.7 x 68.9 x 9.1mm.

Sony Xperia ACE 3 Moving to the back, the smartphone has a clean design with only a small camera island at the top left and the Sony branding at the center. Speaking of the camera island, it houses a 13MP shooter and an LED flash. On the left side, it has a SIM tray, and on the right, it boasts the power button, the volume rocker. Here, the power button doubles up as a side-mounted fingerprint reader. At the top and bottom, it has the 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, a speaker grille, and a microphone.

The rest of the specs include the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G SoC paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB of internal storage. It will come with a 4,500mAh non-removable battery.

Apart from the specs, the publication also reveals the alleged pricing of the smartphone. The Sony Xperia ACE 3 is said to cost Rs. 24,999 ($327), which seems a little unlikely, given that the ACE series usually only lands in Japan. Regarding the launch, the phone is expected to arrive sometime in June this year.

Lenovo ThinkPad E15 & E14 G4 budget laptops with Ryzen 5000 launched

Lenovo has silently introduced a new ThinkPad series into the market and they come cheaper. The Lenovo ThinkPad E15 and E14 G4 are budget-oriented series that will have smaller CPUs and updates this year.

The marketing direction of Lenovo seemingly places a lower premium on the budget-friendly laptops that consist of the Lenovo ThinkPad E15 and E14 G4. These new laptops are being introduced into the market without a formal announcement from Lenovo, unlike some of the more illustrious – and quite expensive models, which get all the assortments of marketing opportunities available. The Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 4 is a 15-inch laptop while the E14 Gen 4 sports a 14-inch screen.Lenovo ThinkPad E14

It is unclear why Lenovo silently introduced the latest ThinkPads into the market without even a formal press release, but that does not take anything away from the popularity of the models. Their cheap prices have continued to attract much traffic to the models, and we expect this trend to continue with the Lenovo ThinkPad E15 and E14 Gen 4 models. It should however be noted that the new models do not come with any new features per se and they only reflect little updates from their predecessors.Lenovo ThinkPad E15

The 16:9 design present in the previous iteration of the ThinkPad (the ThinkPad E14 G3 and E15 G3) is maintained in the new models. Both models also have the USB 2.0 port which seems a far cry from what could be expected. However, the CPUs are different with the Ryzen 5000 Barcelo-U series replacing the Rembrandt in the previous model. These CPU models come with limited functionality when compared with the Ryzen 6000. It seems however that affordability may be the key driver for the ThinkPad E14 and E15 G4.

There may still be an official announcement that will provide all the needed details and pricing for the new Lenovo ThinkPad E15 and E14 G4 series. The optics will become clearer in the coming days or weeks.

Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo in talks to make phones in India and export them globally

Three popular Chinese brands are reportedly in talks with Indian phone manufacturers about making phones locally and selling them to the global markets. As per a Bloomberg report, this decision comes after considering the cash incentives that the local phone makers get.

Will we get assembled in India phones?

The three brands in question are Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, some of the largest Chinese smartphone makers. As per the report, these companies are in discussion with two of the well-known Indian manufacturers. Xiaomi is following up with Dixon Technologies, while Oppo and Vivo are in talks with Lava. If the plan succeeds, we expect to see phones from Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo labeled with the Assembled in India tag.

Reportedly, these brands want to take advantage of cash incentives available to local phone makers like Lava and Dixon. With the incentive benefits, the company may be able to offer affordable products in India. The phone prices may vary for the other markets getting these India-assembled devices.

Both Lava and Dixon technologies are said to be aimed at boosting India’s competitiveness and making the country a hub for electronics production. If all goes as planned, this process could start as early as this year.

As for now, company officials from these three brands are likely to visit the Indian factories soon.

iPhone SE (2022) has some impressive Geekbench results

Apple just launched the iPhone SE (2022) the day before yesterday and has not started shipping it to customers yet. However, someone has managed to get their hands on one to run the Geekbench test on it.

So without further delay, here are the results of the latest iPhone SE’s Geekbench test.

iPhone SE 2022 Geekbench

The A15 Bionic powered iPhone SE manages to score a mind-blowing 1695 points on the single-core test and 4021 points on the multicore test. It is worth noting that these scores are considerably higher than the iPhone SE (2020) model which scores around 1300 in single-core and 3300 in multi-core tests on a good day.

Compared to the iPhone 13, the device trails only a bit in the single-core department but is left behind by around 700 points in multi-core tests. This is to be expected as the iPhone SE (2022) is a small form factor device, Apple has probably put some artificial limits on the device to counter thermal and battery brain issues.

The benchmarks are also obviously higher than anything Android has to offer. For single-core, the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 holds the highest score in the Android camp with 1057 points and for multi-core, the Huawei Mate 40 has the highest score of 2249 points.

iPhone SE (2022)

As for its spec sheet, the new iPhone SE 2022 comes with the same design, and 4.7-inch screen as its predecessor and also features the Touch ID button. However, the device is now powered by the 5G enabled A15 Bionic chip coupled with 4GB of RAM. The back of the device gains protection from a Ceramic Shield and is now certified with IP67 water and dust resistance.

The new iPhone SE (2022) is available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. In terms of colors, the phone will be available in midnight, starlight, and PRODUCT Red colorway. Pricing starts at $429 for the 64GB version and the device is expected to go on sale from March 18 in 30 countries including the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The iPhone SE 3 will be available to pre-order from March 11.

Samsung rolls out GOS update in South Korea to undo performance throttling

Last week, Samsung was found to be artificially limiting the performance of over 10,000 apps through GOS (Game Optimizing Service) including system apps, Google apps, and numerous third-party apps which the company later came out and confirmed.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus Green Galaxy S22 Pink Gold

The Korean giant stated that the GOS is meant to optimize CPU and GPU performance to prevent excessive heating and increase the battery life of smartphones. These limitations however do not apply to benchmarking apps, which led Geekbench to delist the last four generations of Samsung flagships from its rankings.

Now, as promised before, Samsung has started pushing out a patch that sees these artificial limitations completely removed. The patch is currently going live in South Korea in waves via an OTA update. So it’s only a matter of time before the update hits the devices of users around the globe.

As we know, the latest Samsung flagship offered an exceptional battery life through normal use and long gaming scenarios. So enthusiasts, as well as normal users would be interested to see how much of a difference does removal of the GOS limitations makes on the battery life.

Heating will also be something to take note of now that the Galaxy S22 Ultra won’t be as strictly throttled while performing demanding workloads.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra cameras may dominate DXOMARK once again, just like the Mi 11 Ultra

A couple of days back, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra was reported to have been delayed to Q2 2022 for an unspecified reason. A follow-up from tipster Digital Chat Station now reveals that the phone may undergo some tweaks in terms of specifications, but the overall design will sit in line with the previous leaks.

Previously, the same tipster showed some rough sketches of what the Xiaomi 12 Ultra could look like, revealing a large circular camera module positioned in the center of a segment spanning across the top part of the phone. Three camera lenses are visible therein, and are expected to be a wide-angle main camera, an ultra-wide-angle secondary camera, and finally a periscope telephoto lens.

While the overall camera configuration looks to be the same as the Mi 11 Ultra, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to improve on that further. It has been tipped that Xiaomi has joined hands with Leica for the development of the camera system of the phone, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it tops DXOMARK once again.

Moving on, the display of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to be a 2K OLED display from Samsung with a center-aligned punch-hole camera. Charging should be superfast, with wired charging being 120W and wireless being 50W.

Galaxy XCover Pro 2 tipped to be Samsung’s first 5G rugged smartphone

Samsung launched the Galaxy XCover Pro in 2020. Two years later, the company is now said to debut its successor dubbed as Galaxy XCover Pro 2. For those unaware, the Galaxy XCover series is Samsung’s rugged smartphone lineup targeted at field workers.

Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro

According to SamMobile, Samsung is working on a new rugged smartphone with model number SM-G736B. The publication suggests that this phone will go official as Galaxy XCover 2 with support for 5G connectivity.

If this is true, then the device will be the first-ever 5G smartphone in the Galaxy XCover lineup. All the models released so far, including last year’s Galaxy XCover 5, are limited to 4G LTE.

Unfortunately, nothing else is known about this phone. However, the publication suggests some features based on its predecessor.

First and foremost, the handset may arrive with a removable battery like other Galaxy XCover devices. Secondly, it could be based on Galaxy A53 as its predecessor shared so much with Galaxy A51.

Therefore, Samsung could equip the Galaxy XCover Pro 2 with its own Exynos 1280 SoC.  Finally, the handset might also be eligible for 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates.

What are your expectations of the Galaxy XCover Pro 2? Do let us know in the comment section below.

Apple won’t ship 11 inch iPad Pro with Mini LED display in 2022: Report

While we already reported on Apple raising its orders for mini LED displays, it seems that the number of products that will feature the technology are still limited. A new report has suggested that the 11 inch iPad Pro will skip mini LED this year.

Apple iPad Pro 2022-front and back
Leaked Renders of iPad Pro 2022

The news arrives from display analyst Ross Young on Twitter. Back in 2021, the 12.9 inch iPad Pro was the only tablet model to feature mini LED display technology. Since then, it was rumored that additional iPad models will feature the new panels as well. However, in a Tweet, Ross Young claimed that this rumor is no longer true. Apparently, the 12.9 inch iPad Pro is “doing really well” but the Cupertino based giant has no plans of bringing mini LED to a smaller form factor.

Although, it would make more sense that the iPad Pro series as a whole using the same display technology since they already share specifications that are identical. This includes the M1 chipset, camera, and design. So, just the screen and battery capacities are the only differences. At the moment, Apple is expected to refresh the iPad Pro later this year, however, there have been numerous rumors, which makes it harder to have an accurate speculation.

Apple iPad

Previous reports have hinted at support for reverse wireless charging to help charge other Apple branded products like AirPods, Watch, and iPhones. But, this newer reports had claimed that this might not be arriving anytime soon as the brand was facing issues with development for this feature. Furthermore, it is also believed that the new iPad Pro may feature M2 chipset as well, which will be more powerful than the current generation. So stick around, as we will be providing more updates.

With a post on Weibo, the tipster compared the specifications of the iQOO Neo5S to the iQOO Neo6, highlighting improvements across the board. The upcoming phone sports a 6.6-inch E4 straight screen, is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, and has a 4,700mAh battery with 80W charging support. There’s also some fancy tech for heat dissipation but its specifics were lost in translation.

iqoo neo6 specifications leaked

The iQOO Neo6 was earlier mistaken to be the phone with model number V2154A, which in December made an appearance on Google Play Console. After release, V2154A was actually found to be the iQOO Neo5S.

Regardless, now that the first leaks pertaining to the device are finally here, we should be hearing more about it in the coming days. The usual process starts with leaks, then with an appearance on certification sites, and finally official teasers just before the release.

It is possible that the iQOO Neo6 will also have a pressure-sensitive display since the Neo5S had it, but that’s only speculation as of now.
