POCO X4 possibly teased, Indian launch imminent

Earlier today, POCO launched the POCO M4 Pro 5G in India. The phone’s launch confirmed the speculation that it is basically a rebranded Redmi Note 11 5G (aka Redmi Note 11T 5G). However, the launch event showcased a teaser for another upcoming POCO device which could be another rebranded Redmi smartphone.

POCO X4 Teaser

The teaser was first spotted by xiaomiui, and leads us to believe that the teaser could be hinting at the upcoming POCO X4 which has recently been making rounds on various certification databases and has also appeared on Geekbench a couple of times.

The smartphone in the obscured teaser image has a design similar to the Redmi Note 11 Pro, which further leads us to believe that the device is the upcoming POCO X4 as recent Geekbench listings have revealed the X4 is essentially a rebranded Redmi Note 11 Pro.

The veiled camera bump also alludes that it could be the POCO F4 GT which is said to be a rebranded Redmi K50 Gaming Edition, however, unless the image is digitally modified to omit the high placed volume button and shoulder trigger, it is unlikely that the teased smartphone is the upcoming POCO F4 GT.

Coming back to the POCO X4, as the device is expected to be a rebranded Note 11 Pro with a few cosmetic changes, we can expect it to carry a 6.67-inch S-AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The POCO X4 will be powered by the Snapdragon 695 SoC and will feature  6 GB / 8 GB of RAM. Storage options will likely range from 64GB to 128GB. It will come with a 5,000mAh battery that carries support for 67W fast charging. The X4 will run MIUI 13 out of the box and will feature a side-facing fingerprint scanner for security.

Coming to its photography capabilities, It will feature a 16-megapixel front-facing camera and a 108-megapixel (main) + 8-megapixel (ultrawide) + 2-megapixel (macro) triple camera unit.

It is too early to tell if the tested phone is indeed the POCO X4, so we suggest our readers take it with a pinch of salt.

Google Pixel 6 series officially launched in Singapore, Here’s the pricing

While the Google Pixel 6 series has seen great success, the latest flagship lineup is still quite limited in the regions it is available in. But now, the company is releasing the high end premium devices in another market, which is Singapore.

Google

Now, the Search Engine giant’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be available for purchase in the Southeast Asian country. For those unaware, the Pixel 6 series was first announced back in October of 2021. So its launch in Singapore arrives around nine months since its official release, which is quite a long time. However, Google clearly believes that it is better late than never. Similarly, the company had even launched its current flagship in Italy and Spain as well, earlier this month.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel6 Pro will be available in Singapore through the Google Store (Via 9To5Google). This appears to be a quiet launch as Google had previously confirmed that the flagship phones were on their way to Singapore, and now we even have the official pricing as well. The Pixel 6 is available in Stormy Black and Sorta Seafoam. while the Pixel 6 Pro is available in Stormy Black and Cloud White.

Google

Looking at their pricing, the Pixel 6 starts from 999 Singapore Dollars (roughly 742 US Dollars). On the other hand, the Pixel 6 Pro is available in the region for 1,299 Singapore Dollars (roughly 965 US Dollars). Google is also releasing the smartphones with the protective covers worth around 49 Singapore Dollars (roughly 36 US Dollars), Pixel Stand that costs 119 Singapore Dollars (roughly 88 US Dollars), and a 30W USB Type C charger worth 45 Singapore Dollars (roughly 33 US Dollars).

Redmi K50 Gaming Edition alleged pricing exposed

The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition has been teased extensively over the past week ahead of its February 16 launch, with nearly all of its specs and features now known save for the pricing. But thanks to a new leak, the gaming phone’s alleged price tag has now been exposed as well.

redmi k50 gaming edition china price

The leak (via My Drivers) comes in the form of a screenshot of the device’s Tmall listing, which shows its 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant listed for 3,499 Yuan (around $550). The authenticity of the leak remains to be confirmed though.

Of course, this pricing is specific to China and the global variant will most likely be priced a bit higher. The device will probably also be ditching the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition name and may be called the POCO F4 GT globally, just like last year’s POCO F3 GT.

Redmi K50 Gaming Edition

Presently, the key features of the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition have already been revealed. It uses a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen from Huaxing Optoelectronics and is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. For photography, you get a 64MP main camera at the rear, and the battery is sized 4,700mAh with support for 120W charging.

A number of gamer-specific features are also offered, starting with dual shoulder keys. The device has also been claimed to achieve a couple of breakthroughs in the audio and haptics department.

OnePlus 10 Pro adds support for 1Hz AOD

The OnePlus 10 Pro is the brand’s latest flagship smartphone. It is currently limited to China, however, the company has started teasing its international launch. Ahead of that, the handset is receiving a new system update in its home country with a number of optimizations and a very useful feature.

OnePlus 10 Pro review featured 1
OnePlus 10 Pro

The OnePlus 10 Pro is one of the few smartphones in the market with an LTPO 2.0 display. This means the screen on the phone can refresh as low as 1Hz to save power.

A month after the device’s release, the brand is finally making good use of the aforementioned technology by introducing a new feature. This feature is currently being rolled out with the latest A.09 firmware update.

The feature in question is support for 1Hz refresh for AOD (Always-on Display). Thanks to this new addition, users need not worry about power consumption while using AOD on their OnePlus 10 Pro.

Anyway, it is worth noting that the official changelog for the new software update says that only select AOD styles have support for 1Hz refresh rate. Hopefully, the brand extends the compatibility in the future.

Apart from this feature, the latest update brings optimizations for portrait mode shots, white balance in third-party camera apps, night mode, system fluency, haptics effect, overall performance as well as gaming, Bluetooth earphones compatibility, carry-on card label, and WiFi performance.

If you happen to own the Chinese variant of the OnePlus 10 Pro, then make sure to download and install the latest software update from Settings.

China is the largest semiconductor market, as global chip sales hit record high

A new report has revealed that the global chip sales had hit a record high last year. The market saw great performance in 2021, with China being the largest individual semiconductor market in the world.

China

The news arrives from SIA (Semiconductor Industry Association) earlier this week (Via LiveMint). As per the report, the chip sales across the globe reached 555.9 billion US Dollars last year. This marks a sizeable rise of 26.2 percent year on year. It further adds that the the semiconductor industry is projected to see another 8.8 percent growth this year as well as chipmakers continue to build up production capacity to meet the rising demand. China lead the market with a total sales of a whopping 192.5 billion US Dollars in 2021, marking an increase of 27.1 percent year on year.

SIA CEO John Neuffer stated that “It’s still really trending very strongly towards increased demand. We’re just not going to get this kind of slingshot effect that we had in the pandemic.” In other words, the industry may not maintain its explosive growth but will still see a steady rise year on year in 2022. Back in 2020, semiconductor sales were up by just 6.8 percent over the previous, but just a year later in 2021, chip sales crossed 1 trillion for the first time since 2018.

China

Notably, major chipmakers like TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), Samsung, and Intel have announced billions of dollars in investments to expand chip production through new facilities. Neuffer added that “We think in the foreseeable future that there’s going to be plenty of demand for us to do very, very aggressive plant construction.”

Redmi Note 10 gets MIUI 13 based on Android 12

The Redmi Note 10 was launched early last year, targeted at those looking for some great specs without blowing a hole in their wallet. It first booted into Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 out of the box and has stayed on it ever since — until now.

Yesterday, the global variant of the Redmi Note 10 received the much-awaited MIUI 13 update based on Android 12. It is joined today by its Indian variant that got updated to the same as well (via Xiaomiui).

The update currently rolling out in India carries firmware version V13.0.0.6.SKGINXM and its changelog is rather short. Sized 2.6GB, the build’s release notes only mention improved system performance, security, and stability, although some of the MIUI 13 goodies like new wallpapers can be expected too.

Said MIUI 13 update for the Redmi Note 10 is currently under its early rollout stages so it may take a while to reach your device. Only those registered for the Mi Pilot testers program seem to be getting it at the moment, but once declared bug-free, it should be released for all.

Still, you can perform a manual check for the latest available firmware by heading over to Settings > About phone > MIUI version and tapping the “Check for updates” button.

Xiaomi working on an AR based shopping navigation system: Patent

Xiaomi has just been granted authorization for an interesting new technology that is based on AR (augmented reality). This new system is an AR powered shopping navigation system that was just spotted in a patent.

Xiaomi

The patent description states that the new technology is a “shopping navigation method, device and system based on augmented reality technology AR.” In other words, its likely a system that is designed to improve the users’ shopping experience. This could be done through various ways, including providing location information of the product that the user wishes to find while even offering navigational information to guide them to the store (Via ITHome).

This would be especially intuitive with augmented reality tech, which offers a layer of information on top of the real world. Picture yourself wearing AR powered glasses while you’re looking for a particular smartphone. The Chinese tech giant’s AR shopping navigation system would help you locate the store in which the device is available and offer you waypoints as you find your way to the retailer. All in all, this is a system designed to make shopping more interactive and efficient.

Xiaomi

Another very practical use of this technology might be in appraising products. For example, you enter a store that sells laptops, the technology might help list the specification of the laptops and its online pricing as well. Although, the patent does not hint of this feature in the patent, so take it with a pinch of salt. It is also unknown if Xiaomi is actually working on such a system or just covering the bases related to AR.

realme Narzo 50 storage and color options leaked ahead of Indian launch

The realme Narzo 50 is expected to be launched pretty soon in India, and ahead of the big day, the device’s RAM and storage options have been leaked.

Tipster Mukul Sharma has revealed to MySmartPrice that the realme Narzo 50 will sell into two memory configs. The more affordable model will have 4GB of RAM combined with 64GB of internal storage while the pricier model will come with a 6GB+128GB config.

Color options appear to be four — black, blue, gray, and green.

The tipster did not share any other details of the phone but a China Quality Certification database listing had revealed its battery specifications. The realme Narzo 50 will pack a 4,880mAh battery that could be marketed as a 5,000mAh unit. It will support 33W fast charging.

realme-narzo-50-amazon-availability

Another exclusive report by 91mobiles showed that the realme Narzo 50 features a triple camera setup at the rear, with the primary being a 50MP sensor. The info comes from its Amazon ad which also shows the device in green and grey colors. The ad also shows that the sim tray and volume buttons are positioned on the right, making it likely that the left edge will house a power button + fingerprint sensor implementation.

An exact launch date is yet to be pinpointed, but considering the device has already appeared on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), NBTC, and EEC certification websites, it should not be too far off.

POCO plans to launch new 5G phones in India to refresh existing series: Exec

A POCO official has just revealed the company’s plans for this year. In an interview, the executive stated that the brand is planning on launching new 5G smartphones while also refreshing its entire existing lineup of devices as well.

Speaking to Gadgets360, Anuj Sharma, Country Director of POCO India, stated that the brand is planning on refreshing its entire lineup of smartphones to the fourth generation within the next four months; or in other words, the first half of this year. The senior official said that “We’re not adding more complexity right now. We’ll definitely have at least one model in each of the series.” This means that the company will be refreshing part of the existing POCO F, X, M, and C series of smartphones.

POCO M4 Pro 5G
M4 Pro 5G

Kicking this plan off is the POCO M4 Pro 5G, which is its first model of this year, that has just launched in India earlier today (15th February 2022). Back in December 2021 alone, the company revealed that it sold over three millions units of the POCO C series. So its clear that it is a popular brand in the region, especially in the entry level segment. But, maintaining affordable pricing but with better specifications with each passing generation isn’t easy.

The executive stated that “Affordability is going to be tough because if you look back for the last two, three years, at least in the entry level lineup, there isn’t too much of an option. Things haven’t really changed too much. I will probably breach the price points that we had on the Poco F3 GT and go up a bit more, but may not be a massive step, because I don’t really want to put a shock to the system suddenly.”

POCO F3 GT Gunmetal Silver

But while smartphones is its primary focus, the company is also shifting efforts beyond handsets as well. The brand is aiming on expanding its truly wireless earbuds portfolio. Sharma said that “From a team perspective, one of our key priorities for 2022 is to go beyond phones. I don’t want to say anything, saying that we’ll definitely do it because we’ve been trying to do it for the last, I think, five quarters. And we’ve basically run into roadblocks, mostly internally saying that we don’t like it, or this is not really hitting that particular threshold.”

Moto G22 bags multiple certifications, key details revealed

Motorola Moto G22 launch date could be drawing near. The device was spotted at Geekbench last month. Now, it has been approved by the NBTC authority of Thailand, FCC in the U.S, and EEC. Hence, it appears that it may not take too long for the smartphone to go official.

Moto G22 NBTC

The Moto G22’s NBTC listing has no information on its specifications. It only reveals a few things like the XT2231-3 model number and support for LTE connectivity. Last month, the XT2231-3 and its country variants with model numbers such as XT2231-1, XT2231-2, XT2231-4, and XT2231-5 were certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance. The listings revealed that the device will come preinstalled with the latest Android 12 OS and will carry support for dual-band Wi-Fi.

The FCC certification of the Moto G22 handset will be revealed that it may come in two variants such as 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 4 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. The XT2231-4 variant of the device has been spotted at the EEC certification. However, the EEC listing suggests that the device will carry a Lenovo branding instead of Motorola in Europe.

The Geekbench listing of the Moto G22 had revealed that it may ship with Helio P35 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. The device had scored 170 in the single-core test and 912 in the multi-core test of Geekbench. With multiple certifications and Geekbench appearance in tow, it appears that the Moto G22 may launch within Q1 2022 in different markets.

Unfortunately, there is no information on the other specs of the Moto G22. Motorola did not release a phone with Moto G21. Hence, it appears that the G22 will be succeeding the Helio G35 powered Moto G20 from last year.
